The facility itself is lovely and peaceful, which is important during such a difficult time. However, our overall experience was deeply affected by the behavior of one staff member, Shannon Connors. We are a large family, and after feeling pushed into moving our mother to this facility, we hoped for understanding and compassion. Instead, Shannon Connors was disrespectful and rude toward our mother and toward my siblings who were visiting. Her loud, inconsiderate behavior added unnecessary stress and pain during our mother's final days. Her lack of communication skills and apparent inability to interact sensitively with a grieving family made an already heartbreaking situation much worse. Rather than feeling supported, we felt sadness and anger because of how we were treated. We loved our mother deeply, and those last days should have been handled with care, dignity, and compassion. I sincerely hope no other family has to experience this lack of compassion during such a vulnerable time.

She came before her scheduled time on each visit and developed such a great relationship with my father. She bathed him, took him for walks, ironed his clothes, made his bed, arranged for his food and had great conversation with him. She was an Angel and having someone like her to care for my father was something I will never forget. Everyone at Homewatch from Tim the owner to all the staff were so kind and understanding and worked with me on any schedule changes or additional needs. We told them for a day and a half that my grandma was dying, they did nothing. We called them Sunday and asked that they admit her as she was agitated and uncomfortable. They said we will let you know after our meeting Monday. Monday rolled around and they sent a nurse out, who said she had to get permission from the doctor. It took over EIGHT HOURS for the doctor to respond. They did not have my grandma on daily visits, even though she was actively dying. They tried to put her on a friggin bed pan the day before she died, when we told them moving her caused pain and that she had a brief on. They told my family that she probably had two weeks left to live when we KNEW it was hours to days, not weeks. How can a woman who isn't eating or drinking and only breathing 3 times per minute live for two weeks? They did not give medicines for secretions, so she rattled for hours before she died. Thank God my aunt was there to care for her, and between the two of us she was comfortable at the end but NO THANKS TO THIS JOKE OF A HOSPICE COMPANY.

They also told us they would be there for the family and were a loving caring organization. They were far from any of that. As our mom lay dying we called and ask for help and were told what to do. We called back and ask that someone come to our house and were told "I can come but I am just going to tell you the same thing I just told you on the phone", We said never mind. They next morning my mom passed away. We called and were told abruptly "I will be there to pronounce her dead" Two hours later a "nurse" shows up. I was sobbing at the head of the bed, The lady walks in listens to my moms heart never even acknowledges that I am there, Walks in the living room asks my sisters what funeral home to call, and for moms medicine. She throws the medicine and walks out. It was the absolute worst experience of my life. Not only did I have to go through the experience of losing my mother. I also had to go through the experience of having rude uncaring people treat me like the fact that my mom was dying meant nothing to them. PLEASE know that you have a choice with hospice company's. Had I known that I would have never have chosen Evercare. I had never had to go through the death of a loved one and I had no idea what to do. I needed guidance and support. I did not get that from Evercare. So sad.

After visiting a few places, Sunrise at Hunter Mill was by far the best. Their staff is incredibly nice and they are really good with my grandmother. They also have specialized care for Alzheimers and Dimentia patients (which would be my grandmother). The third floor is dedicated to these residents and the floor is "locked down" - you need a code to use the elevator - this is great because we don't have to worry about her wandering off. There's also a cat on the third floor named Casanova who is the sweetest kitty I've ever met. Casanova stopped by for cuddles and to inspect the room before we even got my grandmother moved in! Another thing I love about this place is that it's very easy just to stop by and visit or pick her up to take her out shopping, for lunch, or family functions. I am very pleased with our family's decision to move her into here because she is well taken care of and so many of the worries I had about her wellbeing are alleviated.
