My grandmother is currently residing at this facility after a fall that resulted in a broken hip. I've had a fairly decent experience so far. Front desk was friendly and greeted me when I entered. She also assisted me finding which room number was my grandmother in and how to get there. My only concerns are the previous reviews about the nursing and nursing aid staff. This place is terrible. Do not send your family here. My grandmother has been sent to the hospital over 5 times in 4 months for sepsis, UTIs and severe yeast infections from her diaper not being changed. She was discharged and returned to the rehab facility yesterday, when I went to visit her today she had no water after the hospital specifically said she was extremely dehydrated. There was also no emergency alert button to call staff for help, just a hand bell on table. I rang the bell because it was 8pm and she hadn't been fed yet and there was no water in the room, nobody came. I had to personally go find a nurse. We finally complained AGAIN to the front desk today as we were worried to leave her over night, we were told we could not speak to a doctor at that time but they would call us when they got the chance the following day. They don't care for their patients and staff is completely unprofessional and under qualified. read more

It is really saddening that when you need care especially the elderly you are severely neglected. No matter how much you complain, how many escalated emails or meetings you have, you are served lip service and the neglect continues. I do emphatically agree with the negative reviews, DO NOT SEND PEOPLE YOU LOVE HERE, my mom was here for several months and although the PT portion is excellent and she met a couple nurses who were phenomenal the care, the neglect, the lack of response from hitting the "red button," never seeing anyone to check in on the patient is astounding. Here's what I wrote to the business after the horrid treatment my grandmother experienced. If you care for your loved ones I beg you to find another resource. Imagine your family member being in pain for hours on end without a nurse to answer the call light. That was my grandmother. This place has a special rung in hell. "Despite my previous attempts to bring this matter to your attention, my concerns have been ignored, and I am forced to take more drastic measures to highlight the poor care provided by your staff. I have left reviews on all major review sites to shed light on the unacceptable treatment my grandmother endured. The problem seems to be rooted in the behavior and attitude of your staff, particularly the nurses, who have shown a shocking lack of care and compassion. There are numerous negative reviews over the past seven years that point to these same issues. It is imperative that you review these complaints and take immediate action to address the underlying problems. My grandmother has now been discharged, and it is a relief, given the failures of your team. Not only was her treatment subpar, but your staff also demeaned her as if she were incapable of understanding her own medical needs. A nurse almost administered the wrong medication, which is utterly unacceptable, especially considering my grandmother's extensive nursing background of 40 years, when my grandmother questioned this she was belittled. Her medical conditions, including severe rheumatoid arthritis, late stage multiple myeloma, and the femur fracture, which unfortunately left her under your care, and required timely pain management which was not provided. Absolutely awful. I am deeply disappointed that this issue remains unresolved despite my previous complaints. I urge you to take immediate action to ensure that no other patients have to suffer due to the negligence of your staff. My 101 yr old mom, recovering from hip surgery was treated so roughly twice. She cried with pain and staff just continued. We have asked that that staff NEVER WORK with my mom again. She also was unskilled in transfer. Why is someone like that working there? I reported this to the head nurse my mother's well I won't say anymore, but I've got the staff's name and she shouldn't be working with anyone. There's also been ongoing med mess ups. Things are changing. They're not telling my mom although she's 101 she is very competent and knows what she gets and when she gets it it's been a nightmare and my mom is so upset . Please feel free to respond to this because I would love to talk to somebody. I'll be calling the social worker on Monday morning unfortunately tonight it's Saturday and I know Sunday no one will be there, but I'll be there as much as possible to assure she's getting good treatment. read more

My husband went to BG after a 6 hr back surgery. His 12 inch wound got infected due to poor aftercare. He was left all night in a pool of blood. He was there for PhysicAL THERAPY. I spent one night there with him due to poor response from the nurses ((they rolled their eyes if you needed anything). The facility looks great, but the care is lousy. He ended up back in the hospital where the Hopkins Dr had to reopen the wound to clean the infection. What a nightmare read more

This place completely neglects the care of anyone in their system. I think they take advantage of the fact the majority of individuals in this facility are geriatric and do not advocate for themselves. My family member fell out of bed trying to walk to the bathroom when nobody would help him for over 2 hours when the light was on. He fell out of bed and laid on the floor for 3 hours until someone found him at 5:15 AM. Whoever runs this nightmare of a facility did not call us (the patients family) until 11:00 in the afternoon. They did not get an X-ray until 3:00. They pay no attention and any workers are nowhere to be found during the day. I ended up hiring someone to watch my family member overnight when that should be the employees jobs. GO ANYWHERE ELSE! The staff is a nightmare to work with as they do not care about patient care and are absolutely useless 99% of the time. read more

Nurses aides do not wear identification . Nurses aides can be verbally abusive. Expect about one hour wait to see a nurse after pressing nurse call button. Expect retaliation if you complain to nursing mgmt. while you're still a patient. Nursing staff is very friendly when family is visiting! I would never want a loved one to stay here! My mother has been at BG for five days. Her care has been minimal with the nursing staff and attention practically neglected her. The red button by her phone means nothing. It could be 50 to 60 minutes for a response to the button. One time an aide or nurse came in turn off the call button and walked out saying she was too busy. My mom's shower schedule is three times a week. Only one Aid has given her a shower each day, because Mom has begged every day. She told her it was out of her own time. Mom has gotten herself up into the bathroom by herself and the aids are very appreciative. The place is gorgeous - like Hollywood as mom says. But the care has a lot to be desired for someone who is in need of physical or mental care. read more

I was at Brooke grove for two weeks PT after a knee replacement. The PT was outstanding but the nursing care was horrible. Being a fall risk I could not go to the bathroom by myself. Pushed the call button , by the way does not go to a nurse it onlyy lights up the light above your room. Being at the end of a corridor I was at their mercy. After a few days of insurance paying for this poor service my family determined I needed further private assistance. So, an aide was hired for twelve hour shifts for five days a week with help from my family Nss well and on weekends. I encountered some form of intestinal Problem there as well . Being a diabetic tthryngsve no special diet for it. So trying to do my own diabetic diet to no avail I lost 8 lbs being small to begin with was not a good situation o.n. The best pasty to all of this is when discharged to come home I was given my medication thst I had not totally used to bring Home. Well, one if the medications was for another patent. When I called to advise them if they're mistake they wanted to drive to DE where I live to reclaim the medication. I would not allow this . I plan to use this now when informing the Md Medical bureau of the horror that goes on in this beautiful facility with non professional care and the wrong medication they sent me home with.. Here is a glimpse of Brooke grove rehabilitation Center! Very poor nurse service and nurse's aide!! My dad is 84 years old! There are two issues. One major issue is the terrible attitude of the personnel, they were disrespectful for yelling at my dad. The second issue is that there is a lack of communication between therapists and nurses. If PT tells my dad that he is able to walk around his room using a walker, unsupervised, then the nurses should be aware so that they do not harass my dad about moving around in his room alone. As of today, the nurses say that he must be supervised at all times (moving from bed to chair, to the bathroom etc.). However, David spoke with the occupational therapist today and she said that she is okay with my dad walking around his room with a walker since it is a small space. He must be supervised if he wants to walk outside of his room. Why don't the nurses know about this? Below is a description of the events around the yelling incident, according to my dad-- 8/11/2019 (time unknown) When my dad moved to his bed to sleep, he asked the night nurse for the plastic urinal. The night nurse told him that he could go to the bathroom by himself if needed. 8/12/2019 (~4:00 AM) He moved from his bed to the lounge chair next to his bed since his back felt sore. He thought this was fine for him to do since the night nurse gave him permission to go to the bathroom on his own. A female employee came into his room and asked how he got to the chair, rebuked him for moving there on his own and told him that he should go back to bed. He said that she was yelling at him and when he asked for a chance to speak, she refused and continued to speak in an elevated volume. He asked for her name, she refused to give it to him and she left. Another female employee came into the room. My dad asked if she knew the name of the employee who was just in the room with him, she laughed and would not provide the name. She also would not provide her own name. My dad is extremely upset at this point because the situation was not a joke for him and the employees are treating it like it is. He said that he was so upset that he was going to deny nurse service for the day but decided against it because that would just hurt him without any repercussions on the employees who mistreated him. During morning therapy sessions, the therapist told him that he could walk down the hall with assistance. After lunch, he asked his nurse to help him walk. She told him to be patient about walking, he got denied. Terrible, terrible service. It has been negatively affecting his mood ever since the incident happened. I cannot reach Brooke Grove Rehab and Nursing building in Olney, Maryland. No phone numbers get me to a human being. My father is in a room there. He cannot speak, so he cannot use the phone. If I cannot do it via the phone numbers on the web site, nor the phone numbers on the business cards given us when we toured, then my 88-yr-old mother cannot do it. Unacceptable. read more

The hardware is good. The place is clean and well-maintained. It has dinning space, physical therapy and basic medical services. However, the management is very poor. The staff members are non-responsive to call-buttons and other requests for help. There is no single point of contact for the family, and it is very difficult to find the person responsible if you have an issue. My mom's discharge instruction from the hospital says follow-up visit after two weeks. They did not make arrangement for that. After repeated calls and emails, finally a follow-up visit was made 5 weeks from discharge. The service staff are usually poor in English and difficult to communicate with. In short, it is a good resource if you can take care of yourself and need some specific help. However, if you are mentally and physically dependent, you will have hard time there. read more

My mother was there for a month. Physical therapy and grounds are great hence the two stars, however medical/nursing staff are seriously lacking- bad attitudes, wrong dosages of medicines, accidental double doses,etc. Staff does not communicate with each other and beds are rock hard, even though they say there is an air mattress option. My mother was sent home with an accidental double dose of the same medication. An accrediting body needs to re-visit this facility and make some significant changes to protocol. read more

as others here have said, this place is gorgeous and food is actually very tasty but the care is seriously lacking. i think this has mostly to do with shortage of workers and not that the place is evil or anything, and likely most other rehabs/nursing homes are experiencing the same issues. it is impossible to get information about my mother's care and impossible to get in touch with anyone, takes days for a response if you get one at all, we asked several times for medication changes and never got a response, we asked repeatedly for updates on how my mother did at night (she tends to wander) and got no response other than "i'll check" with no follow up, she developed a rash and someone said they'd get the doctor and never did...it goes on and on. this place would be great for a younger person who is generally able to take care of themselves and just needs physical therapy and food...but if that were the case you wouldn't be in a rehab. for the elderly, particularly those with dementia and those who need to be assisted going to the bathroom, this place is not good unless you want to pay $30 an hour for a private nurse to sit there all day. we ended up leaving early because we couldn't take it any more and of course it took 3 extra days to get discharge info. and on the way home we stopped at an urgent care to get the rash looked at because the mythical doctor at the rehab never showed. read more

This facility, though clean, is terrible and negligent in its medical and administrative care. My grandfather went into the facility for physical therapy rehab. Upon entry he was mobile, eating, talking, etc., and after a few short weeks is confined to his bed or a wheelchair, he lost his ability to swallow solid foods, he has become mostly non-verbal, and he has developed medical conditions far beyond those he went into the facility with. The nurses do not follow proper protocol in documenting falls, wounds, etc. that occur at the facility, nor are the proper parties even consistent in notifying the family of the status of his care. In addition, when the family went to the facility requesting transfer to a different care facility, the discharge coordinator withheld his medical records so that he would remain at Brooke Grove under private pay. I would never encourage anyone to send their loved one to this facility. read more
