Traveling solo, I sat at the bar and found the service friendly, attentive, and welcoming throughout my visit. My drink stayed filled, and the staff did a great job making a solo diner feel comfortable. I started with the soup, which was excellent and a great way to begin the meal. For my entrée, I ordered the large mac and cheese. The portion was generous, rich, and very satisfying after a long day of riding in the mountains. Everything was served hot and prepared with care. The atmosphere was relaxed and comfortable, making it a great place to unwind after spending the day exploring the area. The restaurant felt welcoming without being overly formal, and I never felt rushed during my meal. Overall, I had a very good experience. Good food, attentive service, and a comfortable atmosphere. I would gladly return the next time I'm in Blowing Rock.

Hidden Gem in Blowing Rock…read more After spending the morning at Grandfather Mountain, I took the scenic route into Blowing Rock and stumbled onto an absolute gem. Hellbender Bed & Beverage and Bistro Roca share the same space now, and the result is one of the most charming spots I've found in the High Country. The outdoor patio was beautiful, with flowers everywhere, cozy seating areas, fire pits, and plenty of dogs lounging alongside their owners. The gravel patio was a little uneven, so my table had a slight tilt, but honestly, the atmosphere more than made up for it. I started with a glass of Crémant de Loire. Crisp, cold, refreshing, and exactly what I wanted after a morning of mountain exploring. For lunch, I ordered the Moules Frites. The mussels arrived swimming in a rich, flavorful broth with basil and sun-dried tomatoes, alongside a generous pile of perfectly cooked fries. The combination with the sparkling wine was fantastic. I cleaned the plate. The service was friendly, welcoming, and genuinely pleasant. My only suggestion is a little more attention to the details. If you're serving mussels, a spoon is almost essential for enjoying that incredible broth. A smaller seafood fork would also make fishing out the mussels easier. Minor things, but details that can elevate a great meal into an exceptional one. The prices were surprisingly reasonable. My entrée and glass of bubbles came in around $23, which felt like a great value considering the quality, portion size, and setting. I skipped dessert only because I was determined to finish every last fry, then headed into town to walk off lunch and hunt for something sweet. If I return--and I absolutely would--I might even stay at the inn. The cottages looked adorable, and the whole property felt warm and inviting. Just a short walk from downtown Blowing Rock, this place delivers on atmosphere, food, and mountain-town charm. Five stars for the food. Four stars for service. Five stars overall because I'd happily come back tomorrow. Life is too short to eat mediocre food. Get out there and stuff your face.

Glass doors and mirrors full of fingerprints, glasses the same. The 2 seat table was disgusting, and I definitely wouldn't eat at it. Carpets were filthy as well, wear socks. We booked in advance over the phone. Check in and out were both super easy. The office has movies and books (even for kids) that you can borrow. They also have coffee, water, and ice available at all times. The room was very small-- two beds, bathroom, mini fridge, desk, and tv-- but that was okay since we didn't really spend any time other than sleeping and showering there. Someone came and emptied our trash, made our beds, and gave us fresh towels every day. Everything seemed nice and clean, zero complaints. Outside they have other little cabins and a fire pit with multiple chairs and maybe one picnic table. Really cute, well kept area! There were also several benches outside of the rooms where guest can sit and enjoy the weather, talk to each other, play music, etc. We frequently saw a lady outside her cabin painting the garden scenery. Blowing Rock seems to gather an older crowd, so being in our 20s and heavily tattooed, you get some looks. However, the staff at the inn was very friendly and enjoyed talking to our infant daughter. Not sure when we'd be back to visit, but I'd stay here again!

Although there were only a very few other customers/clients there, the staff seemed very stressed out and was not welcoming. There seemed to be a lot of communication issues between staff and management, and we observed a woman who seemed to be the owner openly yelling a small group in formalwear taking photos and also at the GM. It was extremely unprofessional. I'm very surprised at the lack of warmth and customer service, especially since there are so many other fantastic resorts, spas and venues in the area, like Chetola, Eseeola, and the Inn at Crestwood as competition. I have been to all of the others that I have listed, and had a significantly better experience at each.

Peaceful and Beautiful Stay…read more Our stay at Westglow Spa & Manor was relaxing and scenic. The spa has an incredible view, though it's starting to feel a bit dated -- the women's locker room could use updates, and the aromatherapy showers weren't producing any scent. My massage with Ted was excellent, but the food court fell short of "spa-quality." The Manor, however, was absolute perfection. Jennifer, our hostess, was the highlight of our stay -- warm, attentive, and genuinely caring. She made us feel completely at home and went above and beyond to ensure every detail was just right. Our room was beautifully updated, with a stunning view and the most comfortable bed. Westglow is a peaceful, welcoming retreat with exceptional hospitality. With a few spa and menu updates, it could easily be a five-star destination.

Shortly after we arrived, I was sitting with my wife, her brother, and his girlfriend around a charming hearth, sipping complimentary wine, discussing philosophy and religion as the snow-blanketed countryside began to glow with winter twilight. One of the owner's longhaired cats lounged with us - an unexpected addition to our group. My wife and her brother are allergic to cats. No matter - as long as the cats stayed out of our way, we were sure we could enjoy our stay with slight irritation. My brother-in-law's girlfriend took one of the cats downstairs to the owner, sweetly explaining that although the cats were lovely, two of us were allergic. She returned up the stairs and reported the owner's perturbed reply: "No one can be allergic to my cats." Puzzled, we resumed our conversation. A second cat curled up next to me; I stroked its fur absentmindedly as we debated the nature of morality. Suddenly, the owner appeared at the top of the stairs. "Ok you guys," she said bitterly, grabbing the cat, "give me my sweet kitty. I don't believe it for a minute." "What's the cat's name?" I asked out of courtesy. "Never mind!" she cried, stomping back down the stairs. The four of us sat in stunned silence. Had she been offended by our medical condition? Attempts to resume our previous conversation proved futile, as quaint relaxation gave way to nervous confusion. We decided to politely confront the owner and give her another chance. Perhaps we had mistaken eccentricity for anger. "I hope we didn't upset you about your cats," said my brother-in-law. "It's really only a minor allergy, I'm sure I'll be fine." "It did upset me," said the owner. "Longhaired cats don't cause allergies - I've researched the matter. 99% of my guests love these cats." I guess we should have known. The four of us retreated to a bedroom to discuss our next move. We had already put down a one-night deposit, but the tension had grown unbearable. We decided to leave. "I think we're going to look for another place to stay tonight," I told the owner. "We don't want to intrude on . . . what you have going on with the cats." "I can get over it," came the quick reply. "Can you?" Upon reflection, I supposed I could. The tension in my stomach eased a bit. We had probably made too much of this, and we were ready to get our vacation back on track. "Just stop being such sissies about the cats!" laughed the owner. We went to out dinner and pretended we weren't nervous about coming back. None of us slept well that night. Surrounded by darkness, trapped in a house with an irrational, irate woman, our minds conjured up the standard horror-film scenarios about naïve young people in remote locations We knew these thoughts were ridiculous. But we knew we had to get out. Despite our fears to the contrary, the owner was relatively cordial about our early departure. She complained about the lost income, but I imagine she was glad to see us go. We were but temporary trespassers in a feline domain. At least we ate a hearty breakfast before leaving. Of course, we dared not tell the owner that one of us had a wheat allergy. No one could be allergic to her waffles.
