The owners have a couple of dogs of their own, and another couple was here with their dog. This place is super cute and homey-there's paintings, stuffed animals (for humans and dogs), inviting couches, decorative rooms, a big backyard for our dogs to do their business (we didn't even have to pick up after them, since someone else does that for us)-great since it snowed several inches the night before!! We came in at night, and just sat back with some drinks and hung out with everyone as our dogs socialized, too. Our puppy loved this place, as he was free to wander around and have some fun! I'm glad I booked it blindly, otherwise the distance would have discouraged me from coming here. The owners love dogs and make you feel at home. They have a couple of their own dogs too. There's a backyard where you can open the door and let your dog pee and poop. For my first experience at a B&B, I loved it.

We arrived to a note with some basic info and informing us that they upgraded our room for free to the Connecticut room which was a very nice surprise as the upgraded room had a Jacuzzi tub. There were instructions to call the owner to let them know what time we wanted to eat breakfast, we accidentally asked for 10 minutes before they start serving and they did accommodate us. The Inn is very cute and cozy, we made use of some of the available brain teaser puzzles that evening. We were able to adjust the temperature of the room easily. The bed was very comfortable and had plenty of warm blankets. The hot water did take a little while to heat up, we started to worry that the water heater was broken but it if did heat up eventually. In the morning we went out to the breakfast area and the inn keeper told us to pick a table to sit, not exactly warm and welcoming but to the point. The breakfast was decent, the fresh fruit was very nice. The inn keepers didn't seem to be the most outgoing/friendly types but nice enough when we got to talking. There is a little driveway to the Inn which was convenient for dropping off all our stuff before parking in the little lot the next driveway up. Overall we had a great stay, and would recommend the Wilderness Inn for local stays, especially with Waterville Valley and Cannon Mountain so close by.

If you are interested in the details of what happened, please feel free to read below: I was greatly looking forward to my stay for the upcoming weekend when I made my booking on Sunday, 7/9; however, devastating storms and unprecedented flash floods swept through most of New England the following day. Upon seeing the damage in my area and on the news, I immediately called the owners at the Wilderness Inn and expressed my concerns about traveling from New York + their location being so close to the Pemigewasset River. They assured me they had no damage, but I reiterated my growing unease given more bad weather was predicted for the weekend I was staying (with the worst of it Friday and Sunday, the days that I would be traveling 5-6 hours or more by car). They insisted everything would be fine, even though there is no way to guarantee safety in such dangerous and unpredictable circumstances like flash flooding. As I was getting ready to start my drive to NH on the morning of Friday, 7/14, my navigation app alerted me of flash flooding along multiple routes. I called the owners and kindly asked if they would be willing to work with me and offer a refund (I even offered to pay a cancellation fee), or allow me the opportunity to reschedule my stay for another weekend since it was a life-threatening weather event and even local authorities were advising against all non-essential travel. Unfortunately, I was met with a cold and callous response. Instead of showing any empathy toward my predicament, they dismissed my concerns and summarily denied my request for a refund or rebooking. They failed to grasp the severity of the weather conditions and continued to insist that it was safe to travel (it was not). After our call, I formally notified them via email that I would not be traveling due to the storms and gave them one last opportunity to reconsider their cancellation policy. Sadly, they went ahead and charged my credit card for the full amount, but not before belaboring that there was "no emergency" in NH (there was). In a time when compassion and understanding should prevail, the owners of the Wilderness Inn showed clear negligence, an alarming lack of responsibility and professionalism, and a shameful disregard for the safety and well-being of their guests. It is frustrating to witness such an abysmal level of customer service. I sincerely hope the owners reconsider their business practices and realize that customer satisfaction and safety should always be the utmost priority, especially in extreme weather events.

The food was a 6. Beverages were short. The flourless chocolate cake was flat. Bread pudding was average. Waitress was a touch pushy. But I think she was just trying to make sure we were happy. I do think their drinks are overpriced. Example: one shot of scotch was $15.00. There was a beautiful red propane stove in our suite that was inoperative. Unfortunately, there was a very noticeable septic smell throughout the Inn. I will consider other Inns when we return.

Last time we were in town we ate at the Rathskeller Pub in the ground floor of the Inn and the kids had been talking about it ever since, so we decided to stay at the Inn this weekend per our children's request. We booked two nights in the adjoining rooms on the second floor. One room has a double bed and the other has two twin beds. The rooms were very tastefully decorated, with soft Garnet Hill bedspreads and gorgeous cherry and oak furniture. The bathroom was tiny with older tile, but very clean, and sufficient for our needs. There are no TVs in the bedrooms, which is good because noise travels well through the hallways into the rooms. There are TVs on in the pub during dinner, and there's a theater room in the basement. There are lots of reminders at the Inn about keeping kids quiet in the hallways, but I didn't hear any kids making noise--instead I heard some sauced up older folks returning to their rooms in the middle of the night! Which I found amusing. The Inn is an older structure, constructed with traditional New England materials, and is very well cared for. Staying at the Inn is like traveling back in time in some ways, and somehow encourages conversation between guests. There's a front porch, a large screened in porch, a library, and a few fireplaces. It's very clean, the staff is friendly, and there's lots to do during the summer right in the immediate area. Included with the stay is use of the four clay tennis courts (borrow rackets and tennis balls from the desk), a pool and hot tub, ping pong, a watering hole, and even bikes and helmets to borrow for a few hours at a time. Also on site (but not included in the nightly rate) are two restaurants, retro arcade games, a horse stable, and a glider airport. The first floor dining room is quaint and a bit formal (requiring reservations), while the Pub is casual and louder (more forgiving of people with kids), and has patio seating. The pool is older but heated, with plenty of seating on the deck. If you choose to experience the old fashioned hospitality of the Franconia Inn I highly recommend taking a soak in the hot tub at twilight while surrounded by nature before retiring to your room and listening to the bullfrogs while you fall asleep

Upon checking in, we found there was no way to lock our door (inn keeper said, "it's Vermont, we don't lock our doors.") The smoke/fire detector in our room was beeping every 15-20 seconds. The top bed linens and pillows were dingy and dirty. A bath robe that hung from the door looked as if it hadn't been cleaned for a long, long time. My wife and I spent no more than 5-10 minutes in the room following our "discoveries." We did not feel safe or secure at this inn, and so, we immediately booked accommodations at a nearby hotel for a 3 night stay. The hotel reservations were considerably more expensive, but, my wife and I felt neither safe nor secure at McIndoe Falls Inn. And, on the backside of a multi-year pandemic, we had concerns with the lack of cleanliness. The inn is in dire need of a refresh. Finally, and inexplicably, they also charged our card for the remaining balance of the entire, 3 night stay. I sent them an email at 4:44pm, just a few minutes after we left to inform them we would not return. I don't have a problem with the initial deposit for the first night. I greatly resent being charged full rate for a 3 night stay, while we were only there for 10 minutes. Based upon innkeepers previous comment, we were their only guests, so it's not like others were beating down the doors to get in. I will be disputing the balance charges with my credit card company. In case I haven't been clear enough, I do not recommend McIndoe Falls Inn, at all. The pictures and descriptions on their website is a gross misrepresentation.

My room was beautiful in a rough elegance kind of way and so comfortable! If you want to see the Fall foliage or simply have a place to get away and rest then this is the place to be!
