Just realized I never posted this....We stayed in the dream cottage for 3 nights (last November) and loved our stay. Although there are a few things that could use some TLC, overall the cottage was great. Comfortable bed, great jacuzzi tub, sauna, and fire box. The restaurant at the inn is exceptional. Unique menu items and everything cooked to perfection. We loved it so much we ate there all 3 nights of our stay. The inn has a library and enjoyed playing chess there by the fireplace one evening. The staff were all very friendly and accommodating. I would recommend staying here. read more

We visited the Sugar Hill Inn in late October and our experience was positive in every way. The reservation-making process was easy, so that was a good early sign. When we arrived, we were greeted by one of the friendly owners who showed us around the main building, offered us fresh-baked cookies, walked us over to our room, and demonstrated/showed how everything worked. We stayed in the Forest View Cottage which was a beautiful room - quite spacious and elegant with handsome decor. Breakfast the next morning was delicious. Everything on the menu looked fantastic so we had difficult choices to make. There were several other guests dining at the time in the comfortable and stately dining area. In every way, this is exactly what you would expect from a super-nice B&B! There's more! A couple days later, we discovered that we'd lost a pair of shoes somewhere. We contacted the Sugar Hill Inn to see if we'd left them there. They responded quickly to confirm that they had found the missing shoes, and they initiated the process of shipping them to us, in a very convenient and professional way. This level of courtesy is very impressive! read more

This was a very difficult decision between 3 and 5 stars, so I will start with what was wonderful, and then cover what might concern you. First, the staff at this inn are simply wonderful. They will do whatever is needed to make your stay comfortable and meet your needs. They were friendly and outgoing, and offered advice on the area. The bartender was terrific. Our waitress at dinner was wonderful. The chef was willing to make accommodations for my wife's dinner, and we were able to get a quick breakfast due to our departure schedule. Second, the food is excellent. The beef with asparagus and potatoes was SO rich and flavorful. The risotto was better that I have ever had, period, hands down. I had to ask the secret. We also had a wonderful leek soup. The setting is nice and cozy. It is expensive for this region, priced more like Boston. The challenge is the rooms in the house itself. You need to be prepared for a house that was build in the 1700s. Walls are thin, bathrooms are small. We stayed in the Moses room and whenever our neighbors used the shower the pipes in the ceiling would scream. There was also a rowdy crew in the bar until midnight, and even though we were at the other end of the house and upstairs we could hear the entire party conversation and laughter. They do have nice cottages that might be a better choice. In my opinion, the cost for the rooms is not commensurate with the quality, but some people love old homes like this. read more

We are heading South for the season so six of us went out to celebrate and say goodbye. I would have given a fifth star but the dining room consisted of the six of us and a wedding party all crammed together. Our server, Hope, was friendly and took care of us. Colin, the chef, was great and each meal was nicely presented and cooked to perfection. He came out and chatted with us after our meal which was a nice touch. My soup and duck were excellent. The wine selection and deserts were also varied and tasty. A nice evening- good food, good friends and a nice setting. Overall, expensive for NH but worth the expense. We shall return. read more

On the plus side- Old inn with nice atmosphere out in the country. And it's near Polly's Pancake Parlor! Minuses are fairly minor: Teeny, tiny run-down bathroom, closed dining room, lack of snacks, and not much communal space. The place felt a bit deserted but it is shoulder season. Very pretty area. I was there during a rainy, foggy time so it was kind of cool,cozy, and a bit mysterious. But it was affordable and was a pretty good place to stay in the Franconia area. read more

Beautiful area and quite a few restaurants nearby. The inn is rundown and not worth the almost 400$ per night price for the cottage we had. Our room and dining room had lightbulbs that were out. There was a broken glass shade in the dining room as well. The website pictures are not current. They are close to 10 years old. The website hasn't really been updated since the new owners took it over. The dinner package is overpriced as well and not worth it, especially with other places to dine in the area. It must've been an amazing place when it was in its prime and kept up. I felt misled and taken by this establishment. read more

We booked this to unwind after our wedding since our honeymoon wasn't for a month. The location is fantastic. The staff is very friendly and the breakfasts are good. It was challenging finding restaurants to eat dinner Monday and Tuesday night because they only serve dinner on certain nights. I gave it 3 stars because we both felt the room looked better in the pictures than in reality and that it was overpriced. The room was clean but underwhelming for cost per night. read more

Sugar Hill Inn is PARADISE!!! We're already planning our return trip. A friend recommended Sugar Hill Inn and it completely exceeded expectations. An absolutely beautiful property with lovingly restored original features - no detail is overlooked, from the subtle wood-toned Bose speakers, beautiful antique furniture, floral arrangements, candles, and more. The staff anticipates your every need - from bath salts and candles for the soaking tub, Nespresso pods and espresso makers in each room, and a delicious complimentary breakfast every morning. The beds and linens were perfectly luxurious. The staff was fantastically helpful, giving phenomenal recommendations for breweries, shopping, and hiking (even providing us ice and water bottles). The food at Sugar Hill is exquisite - I cannot recommend the 4-course prix-fixe dinner enough. The cheese plate and smoked salmon canapes were fantastic - the cheese in particular was extremely impressive. The spring salad with goat cheese and insalata caprese were excellent. The steak was the best of my entire life and the lamb osso bucco was superb. The berry crumble and maple creme brulee were insane. Breakfast at the Inn was excellent and had excellent variety each morning, including homemade granola in yogurt drizzled with honey, blueberry pancakes, peanut butter-stuffed waffles, frittata, omelettes, and more. I especially love that the complimentary breakfast included mimosas! Breakfast was cooked fresh to order, portions were plentiful (I was never able to finish my breakfast each morning) and our waitress repeatedly offered us more food. I cannot speak highly enough of the staff at Sugar Hill Inn. Sara, the owner, is so kind and friendly. I can't express how refreshing it was to interact with staff that genuinely tried to ensure guests have a great experience, in comparison to other resorts I've stayed where there can be an aloof vibe. My initial hesitations were price and location. The price is absolutely worth it - it may seem more expensive than nearby places but there is a lot included in the price that makes it equal to or less expensive. Complimentary coffee, espresso, breakfast, afternoon snacks (cupcakes!), soft drinks, not to mention a gorgeously luxurious inn and warm staff - we absolutely cannot wait to return here. In terms of location, there's hiking, skiing, shopping (the Garnet Hill Outlet is down the street), Harmon's Cheese, breweries, foliage, wine tasting, museums, and more. For anyone freaked out by COVID-19, it was extremely safe and clean. read more

We rate this inn 4.5. Our cottage was a bit dated and dark, yet comfortable (we stayed in the Wildflower Cottage for 4 nights). The main building and the dining room, in particular, were very nice. The breakfast was exceptional every morning, and the servers were very warm and friendly as well. The one dinner we had at the inn was good, not exceptional, but overall this inn is very nice. I had a great birthday weekend here. The Inn is beautiful with a lovely living room; there are a few downsides to being in an historical place such as the main building being pretty inaccessible if you are disabled. However, I'm sure you would be okay in one of the cottages. I was a little worried that the main door isn't looked at night and there was no one at the desk, but the Ring camera made me feel a little better. It still gets five stars because of the kind workers, amenities, charm, and the breakfast! The breakfast is included and you need to go. The menu may seem small but it has a fine dining feel due to the many courses and the setting. I especially loved the jacuzzi and options to add romantic packages. The room was very nice. My husband and I were looking for a quiet inn, with a restaurant. We wanted to truly do nothing for a few days. We checked in and were greeted by the Inn keeper. She was polite enough-but seemed frustrated that the owners were going on vacation and she was "stuck" there for five days. We received a two minute tour and asked if we could find our cottage on our own. We booked the Garden cottage-which advertised as having a private deck. It does not have a private deck-it is shared with another cottage. Staff, smoking right by our deck. ( this is a non-smoking property) First night, our mini-fridge died. No phone in the room to call main house-so my husband walked back and informed them of this. We get a knock on the door, an older gentleman has come to look at the fridge. He pulls the fridge out and it is absolutely disgusting behind it, like it hadn't been pulled out in years. A few minutes later, another guy shows up, he does not say a word to us-just talks to the older gentleman like we were not sitting right there. We found out after that the second guy was the owner. He didn't greet us, thank us, nothing. Disgusting way to treat guests. The pictures on the website are over 10 years old and do not show what the property looks like now. The landscaping is horrible and the pool area is completely overgrown. The whole inn is run down. Same furniture and curtains from ten years ago. Curtains were very hard to open and close. We booked dinner for $227-was not worth $100. Lobster meal was mediocre at best. Lobster bisque was not good at all. We cancelled the second night of dinner and left the property to get food elsewhere. Breakfast consisted of way to sweet items. I sent back French toast on second morning. It was made with whipped powered sugar and some dessert glaze. No maple syrup in sight-even though the website brags about using local products. Breakfast was included in the stay-we still went elsewhere on the last morning. Multiple times, we could see the cook standing outside the kitchen door, smoking (with his apron on) anyone with any kitchen skills knows that apron always comes off when you leave the kitchen. We booked a whisky tasting and when we arrived for it, we were told by the very sweet waitress, that there was no bartender on and she knew nothing about whisky. The room was clean enough, but certainly not comfortable. The bed was hard as a rock, the sofa was definitely not the greatest to watch TV. The shower was extremely difficult to get in and out of. It was a very deep jacuzzi tub (no separate shower) Best thing about the room was the sheets. Our cottage was right above some kind of storage with a garage door, which was loudly opened multiple times during our stay. Outside this storage is a pile of junk. In my opinion the owners are misleading guests by not updating the website. Oh and lastly when we checked out, no-one asked us if we enjoyed our stay. Owners were not on-site the entire time, with the exception of night one for 2 minutes and staff seemed lost on how to handle any concerns. The owners clearly put way too much on the staff. They were all very nice and extremely hard working-clearly the staff is why the place is still open (with exception of the cook) We will not be back. read more

If you're someone who takes most references from tv shows (as I do), then you'll get what I mean when I say that Sugar Hill Inn is like a meeting of HGTV, Top Chef, and Newhart. I discovered Sugar Hill Inn from a targeted Facebook ad while I was surfing the web in Vermont this summer. That was kind of interesting, since Facebook ads usually annoy me (they all feature either a pastel-frosted cupcake, or some ad that says all women my age like these shoes--thanks, but the way to my heart is not to blast my age at me every moment). I ended up on the website, and then got caught up reading the innkeeper's blog which referred to his love of HGTV and his time in culinary school. When my mother then became addicted to the blog, she decided to book a family trip there. (Since Sugar Hill bills itself as a romantic inn, my sister was worried that people would think we were a couple. Considering that we were traveling with our parents, whom we both resemble, I didn't think that was a big concern). Anyhow. The food at Sugar Hill is worth the trip. My sister called the prix-fixe dinner the best meal of her life. Steve, the innkeeper, while a graduate of culinary school, doesn't actually cook the dinner; instead, it's prepared by an self trained chef who could cook circles around many high-profile big city chefs. From amuse-bouche to dessert, it was amazing. The quail terrine with candied pistachios was exquisite. The breakfasts (cooked by Steve) are also very good and the afternoon tea is a nice touch. One day it was cookies and the next a cheese plate which included a chocolate mascarpone-type confection. The best rooms are those that Steve, an HGTV fan, has renovated--the other rooms are still left over from previous owners. The area is lovely--Franconia State Park (where the Old Man in the Mountain used to be) is quite majestic. read more

Update: I note Steve's response. It's probably a good thing that he takes the time to read reviews; it is alas markedly less good that he is unable to be accurate in his facts. Worst would be the decision on his part to suggest that the review is untruthful - for example, my statement that I was served two shellfish dishes is entirely correct (and rather disproves the "very careful" comment, unhappily). We weren't even there over a weekend, as he claims! And as he notes, we did not try to make a last-minute dinner booking, but rather well ahead as part of a high-priced culinary package; far from being 'pushy' we inquired (after an unexpectedly early arrival) whether there were any other times available. As noted, the response to this question was rather comically terse/irritated; O well. We enjoyed the meal anyway. There are other amusing aspects to the response; a rant about reviews from non-customers after discussing that we *were* customers (and posting a claimed price we paid, also - unsurprisingly - wrong but a quite remarkable decision to violate guests' information); a comment about my other reviews (please, do read them! Yes no and maybe so... this is an older inn with a long history who is under new ownership as of last December. The Inn and it's 3 cabins are in a great location and 10 years ago I'm sure the property was in prime condition including the rooms. However today that is not the case. The furniture is old and the ware was starting to show which is consistent with the in as a whole. The new owners do no have a background in hospitality. It was the little touches that made the Inn - gas fireplaces, nespresso machines - our room had a small fire pit. The room and inn were clean but there was room for improvement. The restaurants food was actually quite good - slightly odd mix of Asian and traditional which was a bit jarring given the setting. We did enjoy each dish and the chef was kind enought to come to our table to check on us. Cost for value is an issue at the moment given the inns current situation. Over night stay approx 350 with 260 for dining package - Boston prices with a New Hampshire view. The staff were very kind and accommodating. Over all it was a bit different than we expected, but with such potential - we would like to return again if for nothing just for see whats changed. read more

For the record no one asked about disability at all. By law there should be accessible parking with accessible rooms. Was never communicated to me. My fault for assuming a place built so long ago would never updated their parking and such. I asked to park close to my room and was told no. Was a big deal that I unloaded my bags where I was. No excusing the fruit flies at dinner and breakfast or having to walk past people eating outdoors during the height of Covid to get to our room from the office. Not going to get in a pissing contest. My rating stays where it's at with plenty of good reason. The random hairs in the shower in a supposedly cleaned room and at breakfast in a breakfast plate. Yeah that's enough. read more

I am a turkey gravy convert because of this place! My husband and I stayed here for their 2022 Thanksgiving dinner and the entire staff, chef included, went well beyond our expectations to make sure I could eat (I have Celiac Sprue). I felt so included in all of the food rituals, despite my food disability, and the food was well-deserving of the 5 stars. The delightful owners made us feel like family and can be found in the dictionary next to "authentic" and "generous." They are the kind of people you want running a BandB. We played games in the library well into the evening and finished the visit off with scrumptious bacon and hot coffee in their beautifully-crafted mugs. The Sugar Hill Inn is a beautiful and cozy place to stay. A great value all-around, my boyfriend and I stayed for one night--I wish we had stayed longer. People have mentioned that it is a pricier place to stay, but you are paying for quality and to support local folks, so it's worth it. We stayed in the Nickerson Suite which is located at the top of the stairs in the main building. The Suite was incredibly comfortable and we happily spent several hours relaxing in the room. Normally Inns, especially in New England, are big on shabby chic. The decor of the Sugar Hill Inn was thankfully not shabby chic. Instead it was classic New England. Everything was lovely, functional, and comfortable. Where the Sugar Hill Inn really excels is in the small details that added up to the feeling of affordable luxury. The whirlpool tub had candles and matches set out for use. Within easy reach of the the tub were comfortable robes embroidered with the inn's logo. Each room comes equipped with an espresso machine that is easy to use and such a great addition for those of us who need caffeine ASAP in the morning. The Inn is reputed to have a great breakfast, unfortunately the king sized bed had soft sheets and plump pillows which made it all too easy for me to oversleep and miss breakfast. Next time! The staff of the Inn are welcoming while still allowing you privacy if you want it or will gladly strike up a conversation with you. They even have an inn dog, Katy, who greeted us when we walked in the door. I can't wait to come back! read more

I planned a Birthday weekend for my husband at the Sugar Hill Inn. Reserved the Dream Cottage which was romantic and breath taking. High cathedral ceilings, fireplace, soooo comfortable linens, sauna, jacuzzi tub... Birthday chocolates with a note Thank you!!. Just wonderful accommodations . The staff all went out of their way to welcome us. Dominique, Chandler, Hope, Michael, Elke, Chefs Steve and Collin. Inn keeper extrodinaire Elke also communicated ahead of time with me for some plans I was making. Michael, with excellent bar tending skills, great conversation as well as email communication prior to make some changes I requested...made us feel welcome. Wonderful duo massages by Nancy and Amy. HIGHLIGHT, besides the Dream cottage...the FOOD. Chef Steve's breakfasts, delicious!! His scones are the BEST I've ever had and he needs to package these!!! I would easily take home a dozen. Chef Collin, (dinner) is a rock star. The personal touches, explanation of the food, ...the food delighted all our senses and I'm not sure our tastebuds will ever be the same. We were spoiled by his creations. We hadn't planned on it but after the first dinner. We ate ALL 3 evenings in the Inn for the 4 courses. Each night's menu was different and SPECTACULAR. My wife and I just visited this lovely small town inn for a getaway weekend and though we both admit to being among the pickiest people on the planet, we could only find great things to say about both our stay and our sumptuous dinner. Our room was in the main house and was cozy and warm while the snow was falling outside. Very romantic and comfortable. The soaking tub was a hit as was the king-sized bed covered in quilts and coverlets. Our own private gas stove and espresso maker were also very nice features. This was our first time staying at the inn, but our second time there for dinner. Both dinners were simply top-notch. The dining room is perfectly decorated and lit for a relaxing dinner and drinks. The service is excellent, the wine list expansive, the pace of each course being delivered to the table was right on the money, and the food was creative without being precious, perfectly prepared, and much of it locally sourced. We have dined in fine restaurants all over the world and the Sugar Hill Inn is among the best we have ever visited. read more

Booked the Peckett Suite for one night. It was $450. The room was lovely,but there were bugs in the overhead lights in the bathroom, and in the shower the ceiling was patched, but not finished. The tv and media services were dated. Like DVD dated. This all would have been fine, but I was not notified, in spite of the fact that I booked directly through the hotel, that in order to have dinner here we needed reservations. The dining experience was the primary reason I booked here. We were told that we could dine instead at a nearby restaurant in Littleton, Timbur Alley, where food was prepared by the same chef. It was Sunday and that restaurant wasn't open. We found a decent place to eat in Littleton, and when we arrived back the parking lot was full (diners who were luckier than us). Overall, a disappointing, and very expensive night at an inn that I thought would be a truly special experience for my partner and I. It was not that. read more

We stayed at the Sugar Hill Inn for our anniversary this past September and can say enough about our stay. The food was excellent from the pre fix dinner to the complementary country breakfast. One of the best meals we have had in a long time. The dinner menu was very unique and interesting. One aspect of the inn that we liked was the separate cottages scattered across the property. Each one was unique inside and they almost all had a covered porch, with chairs for you to lounge on. The room we stayed in had a gas fireplace and a nice couch. There are many little touches that may go unnoticed, but my wife loved such as the chocolates left on the night stand, the espresso machine and the water bottles in the fridge. The husband and wife who own the Inn really make you feel welcome and we able to answer any questions we had regarding activities in the area to local places to go for lunch. I would highly recommend the Sugar Hill Inn to anyone in the area looking for good food and/or a relaxing place to stay. read more

I originally wrote a review on YELP that i thought I had removed the next day after it was written as I wrote it in a poor state of mind and it was not very fair to the staff. The day after I wrote it my wife and I had a lovely dinner and fantastic food. I, in turn, removed my review off of Google and rewrote that one as well. As it turns out, we had a wonderful time and one snafu should not have ruined that experience. My wife and I were extremely mentally and physically exhausted having knocked out 5 peaks over 4000 ft during that week. So regardless of my state of mind at the time of the review, I got up the next morning and wrote another one. The inn is lovely and we will return next year. The experience was so much better than staying in North Conway as the little town of Sugar Hill is still quiet and not full of tourists. The neighboring town of Littleton was fantastic as well and we did drive over to N Conway, where I had spent a lot of time in my youth, and we were a bit turned off by the traffic and overall atmosphere rather than we were experiencing on the other side of the mountains at Sugar Hilled. We stay in one of the cottages at the Inn and we loved that because we felt a little more privacy but guests who stayed in the main house seemed to be enjoying themselves as well. While my wife and I don't drink there were people every night in the cozy bar enjoying a cocktail or a glass of wine before a meal. It seemed that locals were also coming in for dinner and that is a good sign. The place is well kept and clean. I love history and the person who greeted us explained that some of the floors were uneven as the in was built in the late 1700's. To me, that makes the place even more interesting and I sat having my morning e in the library wondering who had put in this beam or that peg and what were they like? What was going on in this northern part of the state, northern part of the newly formed United Staes of America? Why had they come this far north where farming was surely hard and the winters harder. I took a picture of the inn the last night before I left right after dinner in the twilight with the windows all lightly lit. It captures the perfect relaxed mood of the trip and the inn was out sanctuary after hard days on the Appalachian Trail. One last thing. I'd like to apologize to the innkeeper and hope she understands I tried to take this post down. I highly recommend the inn, have told several friends and family members about it and plan on returning. Check it out. You'll be glad you did. read more

Absolutely amazing experience!! We started off our trip with a bit of a snag as far as guests that were traveling with us and the owners Chris and Kierstin were 100% accommodating to our needs. They could have told us too bad, but were understanding and didn't. Very kind and welcoming. The staff was no different. We stayed in the "dream cottage" and it was exactly that. A dream! Beautifully decorated, cozy and clean. The breakfast was delicious. The property is charming and views stunning day or night! The area is buzzing with great restaurants, breweries and shops. Skiing, cannon mountain is 5 min away. Hiking, snowmobiling, dogsledding... you will not have enough time. Sugar Hill Inn is beyound 5 stars! You will not be disappointed with your stay here. My wife and I are already planning another trip back with friends because we can't wait to show this place to others. We stayed here for our 10 year wedding anniversary and I gotta say, gentlemen if you're looking for a place to take that special lady the dream cottage will blow her away! I'm extremely disappointed in the inn. I'll start by saying everything is very tasteful and well decorated. The dining area was simply gorgeous. Our room however, was cramped , uncomfortable, and in disrepair . I'm not that tall and bumped my head on everything, the floor was so crooked from one side to the other I felt like I was walking uphill. The "luxury "soaking tub had missing grout and rusted hardware. To be honest it felt like I was having a romantic getaway in grandmas attic . Not for anyone under retirement age. A wonderful, relaxing getaway for New Year's Eve with my husband! We stayed in the Richardson room--large, great jacuzzi tub, very nice linens. Breakfast was lovely each morning and service and staff were all wonderful. We opted in to the special NYE four course meal, which I would say was nice considering we didn't have to go anywhere, but not the caliber food I expected for the price tag. We've been spoiled by fine dining and the meal lacked a "wow factor" and we ended up with a few lukewarm plates. Would go back for the lodging and eat elsewhere next time. read more

I've been looking at the Dream Cottage to stay in for years. A couple of weeks ago my husband said let's go away in a couple of weeks. I went on the Sugar Hill Inn website and I couldn't believe the "Dream Cottage" was available! I booked it for this Friday and Saturday 6/20 & 6/21. Now this place isn't cheap and we paid half upfront upon making the reservation. The other half would be due when we checked in. I woke up Friday excited to be leaving for our trip that morning, but our beloved English bulldog presented with acute anaphylaxis. We immediately took him to the ER Vet Hospital and we ended being there all day. My dog was saved but when I called the Inn at 11am and spoke to Steve and explained the situation I asked if we could switch it to another Friday/Sat combo or even Sat/Sun and he declined and told me that I was responsible for the balance. I lost over $900 because of this. Now I know the policy of these places, but I called him and tried to work it out, I was even crying about my dog and the best he would do was to give me a $500 credit towards another night, after first offering $100 credit. Unfortunately I won't be using it because I can't understand someone who under these circumstances couldn't work something out with me. Disappointing....oh and the vet bill was $2,600+. What matters is my dog lived and money isn't everything but all in all a pretty bad day. So thanks but no thanks Sugar Hill Inn. read more

The location in the White Mountains is lovely with beautiful views. The inn is restored but retains the look and feel of an iconic country inn, all exceptionally well maintained yet inviting. The rooms (we have sampled two) are well appointed: a luxurious and comfortable bed, clean and modern bathroom with exquisite bath products. They even provided a portable heater against coldness. The dining room provides the highest level and finest cuisine we have ever enjoyed. A truly remarkable and not-to-be-missed dining experience under the extraordinary hands of chef Val.. And the breakfasts are equally superlative. The owners and the wait staff are friendly, ready to fulfill even small requests. I am a huge fan of Bed and Breakfast getaways. We went up to the White Mountains area last week to do a little hiking. A little turned into about 10 miles, but that's a story for another day. Got a recommendation for a B & B in Franconia, NH and decided to check it out. This particular B & B has private cottages that have the basic amenities you need i.e bed, shower, coffee, heat, a/c etc. There's plenty to do while unwinding here. Outdoor pool, massages, quaint library, nature watching. We arrived in the evening exhausted and found the pool and private porch area delightful and the perfect way to recharge after what we just endured. In addition to the gorgeous views of the woods and greens there is a pool and a private porch. After showering we stopped in at the front desk and the proprietor was very helpful with dining suggestions. They do have a restaurant on-site but the hours are only 6-8pm. When we got back it was a little chilly so we put on the gas furnace and it was like being at a campfire. Very beautiful and had sort of a calming effect. The best part of our stay was the next morning. The breakfast was absolutely delightful. The proprietor is also an award winning chef. I went with the strawberry pancakes while my girlfriend went with the scrambled eggs with fresh Vermont cheddar on top. Both were amazing! The pancakes were made with fresh strawberries and served with amazing newly made maple syrup from the town next door (Sugar Hill). The scrambled eggs were very fluffy and the shredded cheddar cheese brought it all together nicely. Once breakfast was over, we borrowed some books and maps from the library and sat on the porch planning our day and using the complimentary WI-FI. Positives: Nice retreat away from the city. Excellent food and personable staff. Negatives: Beware of their website descriptions of each cottage. We stayed in the Forester room that was described as having an amazing view of the woods and possible wildlife. Only the smaller window faced that direction. Other rooms such as the Garden view staked claim to a view of a great garden. Turns out this garden is just a few plants and flowers roughly 4 ft x 4 ft. read more

Absolutely loved our stay at Sugar Hill Inn and we're sorry we didn't stay longer. Will be back in 2015.
