If you plan to head to Monument Valley I would absolutely recommend a stay in the cabins here. I booked through the hotel website. It seems like they book out months in advance, fyi but I think I hit it just right. The cabins are small but very cute. Ours had a queen bed and a small alcove with bunk beds that had a door you could shut to separate for privacy. We had a fridge, microwave and Keurig. The bathroom was small but did offer a blow dryer and tiny bottles of shampoo and conditioner as well as a tiny round of soap. If four people are sharing you might plan to bring your own. There is a ceiling fan which helps with circulation. The porch gives you an amazing view of Monument Valley. Note: Cabins 1-17 have a row of cabins below them. You still get a decent view of the valley but I'd recommend booking cabins 18-29 which have unobstructed views. You are offered free breakfast at the hotel but it's really mediocre. I suggest bringing your own items/snacks. The hotel gives you vouchers for free water bottles every day and a $20 a day voucher at the gift shop for handmade goods. I wasn't going to use the vouchers, but with a sale going on and the two vouchers, I got a Navajo pot for free which was a nice souvenir. The restaurant is overpriced but unless you pack in your own food there's really nothing out here expect this or Goulding's Lodge. (There is a stand in Monument Valley called Linda's Frybread but I don't have enough information to post.) The food isn't terrible and the people are nice. Kayenta is about 30 minutes away and there is often construction on the roads so we didn't want to drive there for food. The thing is: this place is SO gorgeous and special. You feel lucky just to be hanging out in your cute little cabin with spectacular views. (We were in Cabin 12.) I loved my time here, took tons of photos, and would do it again. This was fine for one night. The view from our cabin was great, which is why we stayed here. The biggest negatives were the towels and linens. The towels were gross, discolored and super rough. The bed sheets were also discolored. New towels and bed sheets every so many years should be a must! They also limit hot water only one of us got to shower and it was a quick one. For the price decent towels and the ability to take a quick warm shower is a must! If just here for the view and to sleep it works for one night. read more

All right, so first things first: the view is absolutely amazing. With that said, I booked an RV spot at the campground but ended up leaving without spending the night. Extremely rocky, no campfires allowed, and a cheap/rough picnic table for you to use is all. There's no grass, it's just rough rock like someone turned a rough parking lot into a cheap campground by just calling it a campground. Also, to be honest, I didn't even go look at the showers or restrooms in the little hut that they have them in, I just left. I would recommend going for the sites for $10, turning around, and sleeping somewhere else, an extremely underwhelming campground. read more

The sound of silence envelopes and sings to this valley. You can feel it with every breath you take. The more you listen the calmer you become. A truly magical place, home to what many call an energy vortex. Depending on where you look for the definition either scientific or spiritual. They all agree it's a build up of energy that creates a vortex unseen by the human eye. Either way you are sure to feel some undeniable connection to this place. Whilst searching for places to stay nearby Monument Valley I found this beautiful place. The choices are either stay at the hotel or the cabins. I chose the cabins as they boasted a better view of the monuments and star gazing at night. Upon arriving I was pleasantly surprised at how lovely the interior cabin was. The pine wood paneling throughout was quite striking to me. The queen bed was comfortable and included flush wall lights for reading. The double bunk beds are located across from bathroom and included a ladder to access the top bunk. The living room couch does have a pull out bed that looked fully made. The kitchen has a full sink, microwave and full size refrigerator, freezer. No range or oven, no dishes or utensils are provided. (We just used a plastic spoon or fork as needed) Breakfast is provided at the hotel each morning. My choice was oatmeal with brown sugar and raisins. I kept waiting for eggs and sausage in the steam trays but alas it was just pancakes. Note: The Navajo believe water is a sacred resource and ask all guests to conserve water as much as possible. Our front window was perfectly positioned to watch the sunrise each morning from behind Mitten butte and watch the sun cast shadows for each sunset. Such a beautiful variety of colors displayed minutes apart, just stunning. This inspired me to video a sunrise and sunset. Each video lasts between 7 to 10 minutes. Every staff member we encountered was very pleasant and helpful. We had a few minor requests (an extra blanket, front door weather strip, more coffee) that were handled promptly. My only wish was more variety of breakfast choices that were cooked in the kitchen. We generously received discount coupons for the gift shop upon check in, which we used before checking out. Just fascinating artwork. The stargazer kachina doll and silver jewelry really caught my eye. I'd definitely come back here just to listen to the valley and watch the ever-changing sky one more time. Did you know? Monument Valley once had a uranium mine between 1945 to 1967. Access to the 17 mile dirt road is located between the cabins and the hotel. The road is rough, I'd recommend a four wheel drive. Or just hire a tour guide (Navajo Spirit Tours) to drive you there. Many movies and television ad's have been filmed here. No short review can do justice to the exquisite views at the aptly named View Hotel and adjacent campground and cabins! The minute we walked up to our premium cabin, we were thrilled beyond words and felt at one with nature and the sweeping Monument Valley vistas. The cabins have been located with care, each directly facing the Mittens and valley. Adding to the charm, there are wooden privacy screens on the side ends of each porch, so you're shielded from neighboring cabins and night lights that might otherwise obscure views of the gorgeous night sky. We took a fantastic guided tour and drive of the loop but also found it hard to leave our perfect little cabin, which was well designed in every way -- it felt like one of the smartly appointed "tiny houses" you'd see on HGTV but with the unbeatable views of Monument Valley added in. The porch was the perfect place to enjoy the panorama to the fullest, gleaming dawn to starry late night, but during monsoon storms, it's also easy to sit right at the cabin's main window and still savor the exceptional scenery. The restaurant at the hotel offers carryout from both the main menu and local vendor Linda's, so eating inside your own room can be a wonderful option. The premium cabins, situated front-row, are worth every penny, but the units behind are well tiered, with parking behind each set of cabins, to prevent cars from obstructing the view, and there's easy access to the hike trail around the Mittens. This is a review of the cabin with the bunk beds. The kids loved the bunk beds. The AC kept the cabin cool even in 110 degree heat. The cabin itself is not luxurious in any way, but they appeared almost brand new and everything worked great. There were no insects inside or any big problems. The fridge kept the drinks plenty cold. The location is what you are paying for and it's spectacular. For parents, be warned the bunk beds are right outside the bed room door. Luckily the AC's are noisy! And be warned you need to pay the tribal fee at the gate every day you come back in which is pretty annoying. read more

The View Campground has the most incredible view (as it should with a name like "The View.") Overall I had an incredible stay at this campsite. The campgrounds are situated a little bit away from the hotel, but a short walk provides you with some hotel type of services (wifi, store, restaurant, etc.) The check-in process was easy. They give you a map, you find a site, and then you go back to the office to finish up the check-in process. Some of the sites are uneven due to the blowing wind. You are camping essentially on sand dunes (You will get sand in everything. Standard tent stakes may not hold in the fine sand.) Additionally, there is not a single bit of shade in the campground (I brought a tarp and made my own shaded area.) Do not come to this campground expecting privacy or seclusion. You will get neither. Each of the 30 sites are very close to each other. In some places within 15-20 feet. I had site 25 (furthest down along the "do not camp beyond this point" sign.) This site allowed for a completely unobstructed view of the buttes with no one in front of me. The bathrooms are locked with a keycode and were VERY clean. In the mens room there were 3 showers, a toilet, a urinal, and 2 sinks. Over the entire weekend, the bathrooms were very clean. The toilets were flushable toilets. The 17 mile Monument Valley loop is right there as well as (1 of the 2) hikes you can do without a guide, the Wildcat Trail (a nice, short 3.8 mile loop around the West Mitten. It's not too strenuous except the climb back out in the loose, find sand. For anyone in an RV, it didn't look like the best spot. The RVs were essentially in a parking lot above all the campsites. No hookups, no electric, but there did seem to be a picnic table. The campsites had no tables and fires are not allowed. It seems like they may hold some campsites. I checked their website last week and it said there was no availability for this weekend, and upon staying for 2 nights there were definitely open campsites. It seems like you may be able to go there day off and find a spot. Perhaps I was lucky, but even with the close proximity of other campers, everyone was very courteous and there were no obnoxious people like other popular, established campsites. Other campers were quiet at night and in the morning. While I would probably not come back again (on my own), I would eagerly encourage others to definitely check it out. *BEWARE!!!* We reserved a campsite for the night. All site are dry sites but we figured we would pay the inflated rate because the view of the stars is supposedly the best from here. It wasn't until I received my confirmation email that I was notified of a Navajo Tribal fee that was not included in the reservation. We discovered upon arrival that you are changed a fee to get to the campground area. $20 for 1-4 people $6 for each additional person or $35 for groups of 6 or more (see attached picture) this was in addition to the inflated site rate!!! I was mad to say the least! The guy up front told us that we were the last ones to check in so all he had left was a spot with a view of the cabins. After talking to our neighbors we found out that they told them the same thing. There are plenty of empty spots up by the office open that have a great view of the valley. He totally played us! The bathrooms are tiny! There are 3 shower stalls and 2 toilet stalls but only room for 2 - 3 people in the common area between them. The bathroom stall doors do not lock so be sure you have someone stand guard for you. I had multiple people try to open the door while I was using the toilet. They are full doors not stalls so you can't look for feet under the door to check if someone is in there. There are jeep tours available but they charge $80 a person including babies. Even if they sit in your lap. Bottom line, we felt taken advantage of and ripped off. I will not stay here again and recommend the same to others. We wish we had driven just out of the reservation and stayed at one of the campgrounds there. Absolutely the best view possible when camping in Monument Valley! Yes, there is sand (and mud when raining) but we are camping aren't we?! The showers had very good pressure and hot water all day and night. The hotel restaurant was a nice surprise with very good food and very large portions! And the convenient proximity to the 17 mile loop and Wildcat Trail cannot be overstated! Both are awesome! Don't miss sunrise by hanging around the campground, get up and go to Artist Point for the best view. And don't miss purchasing some fry bread at John Ford Point. If you have a decent vehicle it should handle the rough terrain of the 17 mile loop negating the need to pay for a vehicle tour. But the horseback tours get you close to much more and you learn more history. Regarding the additional fee for the entrance, all I have to say is, "it's worth the price of admission!" read more

We stayed in one of the cabins for a night and it was by far the highlight of our 10-day road trip cross country. The cabin we reserved was technically "obstructed view" but the only thing between us and the buttes was a row of cabins that was below our eyeline anyway, I'd say, don't bother to spend the money on the "premium view cabin". The cabin itself was clean, had a fridge and coffee maker which came in handy, a comfortable queen sized bed and a set of bunk beds, it's perfect for a small family or for 2 adults, but it's definitely pretty cozy. The cabin does not have a lot of frills but it's all about the view, the porch that overlooks the valley, and the proximity to the hikes and tours. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a comfortable place to stay and enjoy the best sunrise of your life. read more

TL;DR - a comfortable camping set up, but cramped compared to most campgrounds you might be used to. Excellent shower/bathroom facility make up for some of this. Obviously the View makes this place a worthwhile spot to stay the night anyways. The price does not hurt either. ($20/night) After being stuck in Arches during a flashflood and driving through the night, we arrived at the campground covered in the sand, smelly, and absolutely exhausted. The showers were a godsend--good pressure, warm water, and no coins needed to operate! The campsites on the other hand were kind of tight for space, in that you don't get much privacy other than the fabric of your tent, and I can't imagine most people are able to cook much in this space (though we got in too late to observe if this was true/false). Still, after our rough night, I didn't think too much of it. The sand makes for a comfortable camping surface since it's so soft. Would I stay here again...? Likely not, but that does not mean you shouldn't give it a try! It's a once in a lifetime kind of experience. read more

A couple quick things: You can sign up for tours at a little kiosk with a blue roof in the hotel parking lot, you don't necessarily have to sign up for them prior. There is a road that you take and ride around the valley, but I wouldn't take a low clearance vehicle. I stayed at the tent campsite. The restrooms are far away from where the tents are. The tents are also down a sandy hill that you have to climb up to get to the parking lot to walk to the restrooms, and the further down you are the more you have to climb. This also goes with carrying all your camping gear from the vehicle to the site and back. People are very nice and helpful. Skip the Navajo tacos. read more

How many stars does this place deserve? Well, when the sun goes down, lie down on your sleeping bag, look up and count them. This from an old trip. Monument Valley's camping is limited and this one is located in a large open area. The campground has 99 sites, first-come first-served basis. The campground is located approximately a quarter mile north of the visitors center (if you're lucky, the Navajos might put on a brief show). There are picnic tables, bbq grills, and porta-potties. If you're feeling ripe, there are coin operated showers and restrooms. I believe this is open year-round and for $10 per night plus an entry fee of $5 per person, you can not beat it. read more

Once you get past the incredible view of the monuments at this place it is wretched at best. First, everything is dry like is mentioned in another review, there are no picnic tables at the sites, if you want to cook or eat, you have to go up to the three picnic tables that are directly outside of the reservation and check in cabin. You can not park next to your site so you have to haul everything down, not a huge deal since it is a short walk. The sites are completely uneven, so don't even think you might have a shot at being comfortable because you will not. Also, you might as well being sleeping in the same tent with your neighbors the sites are so close together. This is clearly a money grab since you are so close to the monuments. Like I said I wanted dark sky photography which made this place perfect, what I didn't expect was that I would not be able to get any sleep at all. Because the person in the tent next to me was snoring so loudly and we were so close together, you could hear everything. There is unfortunately no better option though if you want to be close to the monuments. Although do not expect great sunset photos, you are in the wrong direction, and the sunrise jus okay. read more

I´m not usually someone to write many reviews but this campground experience was so exceptional that it deserves a review! The View Campground just next to The View Hotel at Monument Valley must have opened fairly recently since the facilities were brandnew and high above the average of other commercial camgrounds. If you´re travelling the US national parks on a low budget, you´ve got a tent (or RV) with you and plan on visiting Monument Valley, this is the place to stay! The campground prices are so much lower than at the hotel and you get just the same wonderful view on Monument Valley as from within the hotel rooms if even not better! The tent sites are located on a little slope overlooking the Valley (the RV sites are located behind the tent sites) and since we arrived early we picked one in the "first row" so that we could enjoy both sunset and sunrise without another tent disturbing the view. It was magical! --- I have to add though that there is no shade at the sites at all so this campground isn´t the best for a stay during the day - the sun can get pretty intense - but more for the evening and morning hours for watching the Valley. read more
