The tradition continues with every summer trip to Guilford including fresh lobster and then on to the Village chocolatier for dessert. They no longer have fudge, but they have added the most delicious ice cream ever. Now before you poo poo this idea you must try the olive oil orange ice cream. Honestly, you have never tasted anything so delicious. We are even considering a trip to Chester where the Honeycone ice cream is manufactured. While in the area, we visited The Village Chocolatier to stock up on some chocolate. Her shop is absolutely adorable and already had festive treats out for St. Patrick's Day! We picked up a box of assorted truffles, white chocolate raspberry fudge, chocolate walnut fudge, and a variety of chocolates, all of which have been amazing so far! I was also very impressed to see that they had marzipan - I haven't noticed it too much around here. I really appreciated the time that the owner took to make our box look pretty - it made us feel special! We will definitely visit again when we're in the area looking for chocolate! read more

Someone mentioned in their review about 3 years ago regarding chocolate covered gummy bears....so I went in there today in search of because I just got a mani/pedi down the street, hadn't eaten anything yet today and well, will be hopping back on my diet soon (aren't we all?) So I walk in and notice how totally small this shop is, but that's kind of the old school charm that goes along with all of the businesses that line the edges of the Guilford Green. Today is exactly a week after Valentine's day, so I'd assume there could be a great chance of discounted V-day candy on sale, right? Nope. Nothing in this place was on sale, but there was an adorable St. Patrick's themed display of chocolates. I'd be intrigued to go back after St. Patty's Day passes so I can see what Easter items there might be. I think there is ice cream available, but I wouldn't go here for it. The cold case that it was stored in, wasn't ...um...clean?....exactly the most inviting? I'm searching all of the counters and areas that chocolate is and I honestly can't find these little buggers anywhere, gummy beaaaars... where are you? I find the regular ones, the chocolate ones just have to be nearby. Ah ha. There you are. 8 oz. in a bag with a taped on printed label. By the looks of this place you'd think they'd have been there for a while. Regardless, I had to have them. I wish I could have just purchased these, but you have to spend at least $10 for a credit card purchase. Additionally, I got a bag of red raspberry hearts (still not discounted...can you tell I'm annoyed, hahaha. I mean, they were right next to the bagged conversation hearts, that weren't on sale either...I'm surprised there aren't any full priced candy corn floating around here) Moving on, both bags came to under $12... and let me just say, those chocolate covered gummy bears were super fresh and (almost) worth the price! The red raspberry hearts were great too, reminded me of those non-pareil coated raspberries and blackberries, but these were better. 4 stars for quality of purchase. 3 stars for prices and store ambiance. read more

I stopped in on a whim after visiting a business next door. I can't just pass by a chocolate shop and not stop in. However in this case it's not a place I'd go out of my way to visit again; unless I find myself next door again. There were three younger girls working. They were pleasant and service average; neither bad nor great. I decided on several different pieces of chocolate to see the variety, along with a 1/4 lbs of their walnut fudge. I also grabbed a bag of gummy bears for the soon to be hubby. I was actually surprised to find out the gummies are just Haribo brand. That's fine if covered in their chocolate, but these were plain. I just found that odd as they repackaged them and charged a lot more than getting them elsewhere. As far as the chocolate and fudge all was good, but nothing about it stuck out to me as special compared to other places. Overall it's does the trick if looking to cure a chocolate fix, but not a place I'd mark as a must visit. read more

If you like chocolate... If you even find yourself walking around Guilford green and decide you want something sweet, this is the place to go. It's a good old fashion sweet shop and you can smell the fudge and chocolate treats from the street. Seductive and powerful, the smell will force you through the door. Once inside you will be assaulted by incredibly caloric tasties from all sides. Ice cream, fresh fudge and a zillions types of hard, soft and best of all, chocolate candy. It' s difficult if not impossible to walk out without something sweet and delicious hanging out of your mouth. Plenty of mundane stuff to satisfy ordinary cravings but also some great special thingies. The gourmet truffles and caramels are fantastic and addicted. No, it's not a health store. Plenty of those around Guilford. This is a place that will appeal to your most primitive urges. A place that will destroy a diet in a matter of minutes but will definitely make you very happy. Stopped here today for the first time for some yummy goodies and was NOT disappointed! OMG! Smells like heaven walking through the door! Huge selections of store made chocolates, candies & confections. They also serve Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream there per scoop in their cooler. Service was excellent and prices we're reasonable considering the great quality of these products. Will definitely return again for some more! read more

What a fabulous place. The staff are wonderful especially during this difficult time. The shop is small so due to Covid only one person at a time is allowed in. I have tried every chocolate you can imagine (Godiva, Lindt, various candy shops), but I keep coming back to Village Chocolatier because their chocolates are simply the best. If I could give this place zero stars, I would. I Didn't even get a chance to spend my money... Because my boyfriend and I were treated like second-class citizens by the employees. I drove over a half hour to check this place out because it was on the CT chocolate trail. I was pretty stoked to continue to support small businesses while simultaneously getting my chocolate fix, but the absolutely crappy, rude, and obnoxious employees (that outnumber the customers 3 to 1) put an end to that. Avoid this place at all costs. I reached out to the business using their email form on their website... Crickets. I will never go back here and I suggest you don't either unless you want to be treated like crap. You should never take customers for granted, especially during trying times like these. My kids grew up loving everything about the shop. Also, many of the local high school kids worked there during the many years we lived in Guilford, making it extra special. I bought the choc cov'd gummy bears as a treat for them recently. One lives in Calif, one in New Jersey....both contacted me with nostalgic moans of childhood pleasure. I live in RI now, and when I come "home," I have several places to go. This is one of them!! read more

Chocolate is delicious! Prices are a little high, for 4 ounces of caramels, four ounces of non-pariels, a pecan turtle and eight ounces of chocolate covered espresso beans, we paid $35. We definitely can't come often! But everything we got was excellent! Delicious and sinful. read more

When I walked into the store, the shop worker who was the only person working there stared at me as if I had no business being in there and then asked me what I wanted. I had come in there to browse and buy chocolates, my first visit to the store. Even feeling unwelcomed I looked at the selection and chose some chocolates to bring home. She wordlessly and almost disdainfully took my order and rang me up. As for the chocolates themselves, they were good but average and a bit overpriced. You can find the same thing at the Fresh Market. If these are the kind of employees this shop hires, potential customers, they must not want business. I rarely have occasion to buy chocolate anyway, and this store doesn't convince me to do so more. read more
