We visited this Ashley's for the first time on our way home from dinner in New Haven. It's a small ice cream shop in a large Hamden shopping plaza. There is outside seating, but atmosphere is not a selling point. Service was friendly, with one hiccup. I ordered a sundae with mint chocolate chip, Reese's Pieces, hot fudge and peanut butter sauce. The server first added the Reese's Pieces and then topped it with the sauce, which seems like a unique order. After my sundae was made, my server asked if I wanted a lid. I responded "Yes, but on the side." I'm not sure what she thought I said, but she suddenly added more peanut butter sauce to the sundae. She again asked if I wanted a lid and I responded the same way. At that point, I could see from her reaction that she realized she had misunderstood my previous response and that I did not ask for more peanut butter sauce. It was a misunderstanding and not a huge deal, but it did throw the proportions out of whack. I fairly regularly order mint chocolate chip, and this was not one of my recent favorites. The peanut butter sauce was good, but it dominated the hot fudge. An ice cream sundae is always somewhat tasty, but considering that, this was one of my least favorite sundaes of the year because I didn't love the ice cream or how the sundae was made. For what it's worth, my wife gave her sundae (which had some sort of chocolate flavor and cookie dough pieces) Five Stars and I'm sure we'll return at some point because of that. I've got to give Ashley's Three Stars based upon my sundae and the lack of atmosphere compared to many other great CT ice cream shops.

I really appreciate the quality of Ashley's -- the fact that the mint isn't an aggressive green goes to show how natural their products are; no fake stuff! Only the best for Ashley's! They also have a cute ontological aesthetic and photos of community members around to really hone in on the New Haven feel!

Best whipped cream in CT. I'm talking thicccccc!! Their chocolate chocolate chip is perfection. The chips are small (not morsels) and plentiful. They have 5 locations and they are all great!

The ice cream and whipped cream were so delicious. I will definitely be back. I got a scoop of chocolate Reese's peanut butter cup and heath bar. I loved both. I will not get the waffle cone next time, it was stale and disappointing. The fact I'm still rating this five stars speaks to how great the ice cream and whipped cream were. The staff were friendly and happily answered all questions.

Very good ice cream. We go here all the time. Pricey but good. Wentworth's is better but they are often closed.

The property was originally a small drive-in that operated under a different name. Stone purchased the drive-in after working as a Tip-Top salesman and deliveryman. He renamed it "Glenwood" and expanded the menu, hours and the physical building. After Stone passed away in 1960, his son Frank "Wayne" Stone took it over and he continues to run it today. In the early days, the Glenwood had a walk-up service window similar to establishments such as Dairy Queen. Over the years, Wayne remodeled the interior and added an indoor seating area. The menu consists of staples such as footlongs, chili dogs, cheeseburgers, clam strips, lobster rolls, soft shell crab, fries, onion rings, and much more! Although the establishment is no longer a traditional drive-in restaurant, the Glenwood still hosts classic car "Cruise Nights" every Wednesday during the warmer months. In 1985, Wayne's daughter opened "Kelly's Cone Connection": an adjoining ice cream parlor business that is connected to the Glenwood. Although both businesses share the same space, they operate as separate entities. Kelly makes all of her own ice cream, hot fudge, waffle cones, ice cream pies and birthday cakes in house. Customers can expect to choose from about 35 different flavors on any given day. My family and I recently stopped for dinner at Glenwood Drive-In. Growing up in the area, I visited the Glenwood several times throughout my childhood. I also frequently accompanied my father to "Cruise Nights" when he still owned a 1971 Triumph TR6. On this outing, we ordered a variety of menu items including a "Chili Cheese Dog", "Footlong", "Chicken Fingers w/ Fries", and "Fried Shrimp w/ Fries". There's something about those classic menu staples that just really hit the spot. Afterwards, we headed through the adjoining doorway to Kelly's Cone Connection for dessert. It was a special occasion because the ice cream parlor was hosting a meet & greet with Spider-Man himself. The event coincided with the release of a new monthly special called the "Spidey-Sundae" (Firework 250 Poprock ice cream w/ golden Oreos, a frosting and sprinkle rim w/ a cotton candy web, poprocks, & a Spider-Man ring). My sons both had a blast meeting Spider-Man and eating his special ice cream treat. I tried a different monthly special: the "New England Clam Chowder" (sweet cream salted caramel ice cream w/ white chocolate "clams", dried mint, vanilla wafers, white chocolate shell). The presentation was immaculate and the flavor combo was simply divine! If you're looking for classic American drive-in food along with some fantastic ice cream, then head to Glenwood Drive-In and Kelly's Cone Connection!

Late July is peach season, and the sweet aroma of peaches blends beautifully with the natural richness of milk. The first taste is the sweet and sour peach, with fruit pieces bursting like popping boba, followed by a rich and mellow fruity aroma that instantly transports you to an orchard. All of this is built on a rich and natural milk base. Butter Pecan: A spontaneous choice. Overall, it's slightly salty within the milky flavor, with pecan nuts as a topping, making it a rather full-bodied one. Fortunately, it's not too sweet, so it's not cloying, and the slight saltiness adds a nice touch. I thought it was just okay, but my parents loved it. Sweet Cream Chocolate Chip: Apparently their signature flavor. The sweet cream wasn't actually too sweet, but the cream was very rich and fragrant; the real sweetness came from the chocolate chips, which burst in your mouth with every chew, and even just a sample was slightly cloying. The staff were very friendly, proactively offering recommendations and samples. Taking a break with ice cream while strolling around campus and the art gallery is definitely a great experience.

According to their story, it's all naturally produced from the milk of their 300 cows housed at Arethusa Farm in Litchfield, CT. The menu is packed with delicious and interesting flavors, and taste-testing is gladly allowed. My daughter got a cup of the mint chip, while I opted for a waffle cone with sweet cream and chocolate. Both were absolutely delicious. The ambiance is that of an upscale ice cream spot. The interior features a bright, clean, and welcoming black-and-white design, with framed photos of their farm cows lining the walls. There is no traditional table seating inside--just two benches and some standing room--so it is mostly an order-to-go setup. It is also conveniently located right around the corner from the Yale University campus, making it a perfect treat to enjoy while walking. The service can be a little on the slow side, but that's likely because they graciously let everyone sample flavors. The employees are incredibly friendly, engaging, and informative about the shop's most popular scoops. An absolute must-visit in New Haven.
