Backyard play space with our pups having fun!

I have two furry friends, a Corgi named Jack and a Doodle named Luna. We've been taking both of them to spend time with Julie at the Village Dog for years now, ever since Luna was a young pup and Jack as a rescue a few years later. They both get so excited when we pull up to the front door - they know they're about to have a blast with all their furry friends. Julie and her team are absolutely amazing with all the dogs, making sure they all have a great time and are well-cared for. The cage-free care and attention provided by the Village Dog is just fantastic. It's like one big play time for all the friendly K9 guests. I love that my dogs can enjoy such a tremendously fun and safe place to stay when we're out of town or when they just need a fun day out with their buds. We feel lucky to have such a special place in our community that takes such great care of our beloved furry family members. Thank you, Julie and the Village Dog team!

our two love muffins, Lucy and Naini!

My senior dog can't take epic grooming sessions, and her hair was choppy and uneven after her last groom. Her ears and tail had been weirdly shaved, and I wasn't sure we'd be able to make her look normal again during her lifetime. The staff at Rover's is friendly, patient, and knowledgeable. The groomer we saw today has been grooming for 18 years, and had my sweet pup groomed in 45 minutes--and it's the best cut she's had in years. She did what she could to round out her ears, and to help set her up with a cut she can grow back into and look like herself again. My dog is fluffy, soft, adorable, and HAPPY! As a side note, all of the groomers there today were being so warm and friendly with the dogs in their care. I even saw one groomer sitting on the floor keeping a dog company while it waited for its owner. We will be going to Rover's for our grooming from now on!!

On more than one occasion We have seen one person trying to manage 15+ large dogs. It's often too many for him or her to control. One family member compared Rover's Place to a shelter because the dogs are put into crates more often than they should be. Our dog enjoys going to Rover's Place, finds ways to have fun with the other dogs and comes home tired however, we were hoping that there would be additional open space for the dogs to run around.

One thing was clear from the start: Marnie loves dogs and understands them. The first time she came to our home, Jasper immediately took to her, and she to him. Jasper came to us through a shelter, a very sweet, high energy, 1 year old Australian cattle mix. He was smart and eager to please in some ways but pulled hard on walks and, after we had him for several months, became leash reactive and aggressive . We tried two different dog trainers, both highly recommended, but made little progress. From our first in-home lesson, it was clear that Marnie has a depth of understanding of dogs and how to work with them that we had not seen before. She has helped with us to understand the roots of Jasper's negative behaviors, how to help him feel secure, and how to recognize and avoid trouble with aggressive behavior He has improved so much in reactivity and aggression and generally in being more responsive. He's much better at walking without pulling and getting along with others at the dog park. Marni also does both day care and boarding at her home which is surrounded by an acre yard that is totally dedicated to dogs. She gives private lessons there too. With Jasper in among other dogs, Marnie showed us how to "read" his behavior and reactions to the other dogs and how to intervene with firmness and kindness. He loves going to her place and comes back home happy and even better behaved. We cannot recommend Marnie highly enough!

We were very fearful we would need to give up the dog for everyone's safety. Marnie was a literal miracle worker. She came to our home AND did work with our dog at her home. Marnie helped to make her into a more confident and safe pet. She is a completely different dog. She is able to be around other dogs and play, other humans and give love, and most amazing be around the cat and not bat an eye. All of this was achieved without any corrective therapy like shock or prong collars. Marnie was a god sent and I would recommend her to anyone with a dog. Regardless of how good or "bad" the dog is. She will help you to communicate and build everyone's confidence so that everyone is safe and happy.

On Wednesday, September 24th at 3pm, I went to pick up my standard poodle after his neuter and gastropexy surgery. I was brought into Room #2 by a man from the front desk and told I'd be reunited with my dog shortly. As soon as the man walked into the back, I immediately heard a dog howling and crying. I was fairly certain it was mine. Moments later, I clearly heard a woman yell "shut up" at the dog, then yell again to other staff members: "someone shut him up." Shortly after, I heard the same man who greeted me laughed and joked, "he'll be gone in 10 minutes," while my dog continued to cry. Then the woman shouted my dog's actual name while yelling at him. At that point, I shouted, "Bring me my dog. I can hear him crying and I can hear you yelling at him." I opened the door to the front desk and told the woman there that I could hear the yelling and wanted my dog immediately. Her response? "We have a lot of dogs back there." I told her I knew it was mine--but even if it wasn't, no animal should ever be yelled at in a veterinary clinic, especially after a major surgery. When the nurse, Ron, finally came in, I immediately told him I had heard the woman yelling at my dog. His dismissive response was, "I have no idea who that was." On my way out, I confronted the man who had first led me to the room. I told him I had heard everything: my dog crying, the woman yelling, and his own joking remark. His response? "I don't know what you're talking about." So let me be clear: I raised this concern to three different staff members, and each one brushed it off, denied, or covered for the behavior instead of acknowledging it was wrong and taking care of the issue. That tells me this is not an isolated incident--it's a cultural and reoccuring problem. We are home now, and my dog continues to cry. He is clearly in pain and distressed--and knowing how the staff treated him behind closed doors makes this even more devastating. He was there for several hours and I can't imagine what he was going through or how he was treated when I wasn't there. My dog is a standard poodle who is used to crates and kennels--he regularly goes to grooming competitions, gets groomed at salons, and has been boarded with zero issues. This was not a matter of him being "difficult." This was a matter of unprofessional, uncaring, and cruel staff. I would never trust Christensen Animal Hospital again. Their staff demonstrated not only a lack of compassion but also a willingness to cover for one another rather than protect the animals entrusted to them. If you love your pets, do not bring them here.

After being a client of Christensen Animal hospital for many years I became increasingly…read moredissatisfied with the care provided there. For the duration of my relationship with Christensen I recognized that their pricing was higher than other clinics I'd used over the years. I've had dogs and cats all of my life and had been responsible for veterinary care decisions of my animals for well over 20 years. So I feel like I have a good feel for veterinary care expenses. The good: the staff is responsive and friendly. My calls were always answered or if I left a message I received a prompt response. The text messaging function is super convenient. My pets received quality care there. The bad: While I long suspected I was being over charged or being recommended services that were unnecessary, my most recent experience confirmed this to be true. The general office fee is above average and they insist on a formal exam and full fee for any appointment. I began to feel this was excessive when they insisted that my dog required a full wellness exam every 6 months or they would not maintain his boosters for Bordetella. I had never had a clinic insist on that, normally the booster was considered a tech visit. This resulted in a $300 cost per visit per pet every 6 months. My suspicions were validated in my last visit to the clinic. I had gotten a puppy last spring and over the summer brought him in with a cough of unknown origin. They performed a thorough exam, noted it was likely a bacterial infection & provided medication which quickly resolved the issue. During that visit I mentioned he attended doggy daycare regularly. To which they noted daycare was a "germ fest and not good for young dogs." Fast forward a few months and my puppy was scheduled to be neutered. I brought him in as instructed for blood work a few days prior. The day before his scheduled surgery the vet emailed me to say his bloodwork looked fine but noted a "very mild change in his white blood cells that can indicate stress-given his normal physical exam". The cost of the exam & blood work was $300+. I brought my dog in for surgery early, stayed for the technician check in and another physical exam. Spoke at length with the vet about what to expect & then left. Within 30 minutes of me leaving I received a text asking me if I had observed my dog coughing in the last 24-48 hours. I had not, but the tech noted he was coughing at the clinic. This seemed odd because at no time during my time there in the morning did he cough. About 30 minutes after the text I received a call directly from the doctor informing me that since I dropped off my dog he had been coughing excessively and they were concerned the previous bacterial infection had returned. Again this seemed odd since I had never observed him coughing at any time leading up to the surgery and he did not cough at any point during the check in process. After a fairly heated discussion with the doctor where I noted my skepticism in what they were claiming. They noted that they weren't accusing me of being dishonest but they were just concerned about was my dog's well being. I asked about any physical signs that he may be ill & was told his lungs were clear. At that point the doctor brought up the blood work noting it might be an early sign of an infection. Requested permission to perform an additional blood test to check for a bacterial infection and said I'd need to come get my dog. I asked for the cost of the tests they wanted to run & was quoted $400-$500. The vet stated they would need to wait a full 10 days for the results before considering rescheduling. I declined the test and went and got my dog. From the moment he was returned to me he never coughed not once. He hasn't so much as sneezed. That's when I decided to change vets. I'm happy to report, my dog successfully underwent his surgery this week. The new vet did not require new blood work, they accepted the blood work already performed, they did not observe the white blood cell issue that had been mentioned. They asked to examine him the day before surgery and DID NOT CHARGE ME for the exam separately, they included it in my final bill. He had no issues during the surgery and is recovering well. If I had agreed to the blood test Christensen had requested I would have spend ~$800 and no surgery would have been performed. They kept my $200 surgery deposit. So I was out $500 for the trouble, but could have easily been $1000 if I had agreed to the test. My total bill from the new vet was a little over $1000 & included everything. Needless to say I'm going to be taking all my animals to the new vet. If you are considering Christensen Animal Hospital you will absolutely get quality care for your animals, but expect to always leave with a large bill.
