My hubby and I love coming to the Village Green every winter to get away for a night. It's really wonderful. We come at this time because it's when the deciduous magnolias are blooming and when the fragrance from the daphnies is intoxicating. The grounds are well-kept and beautiful. The restaurant is nice too. Yummy dishes in a mellow environment with friendly service. We get a nice king room with a fireplace overlooking the garden. It's romantic and I recommended it. It's so nice to slip into a room here with my beloved for a night. We make memories. read more

I discovered this hotel on yelp and we were driving up north and we had to sleep and rest. It was a delightfully peaceful, safe and clean just adorable room. Snow was coming down and we found out that in the lobby they had a bar with live music and warm cozy fireplace. Great selection of wine and friendly locals to chat. Our room had a great view of the lush landscape. Big bathtub with a big comfy giant bed. Easy access to park, right in front our rooms that comes in handy. It is a one story kind of place so no ups and downs. Free continental breakfast that we found warm yummo food such as sausage and waffles were freshly made upon arrival. Our stay was during the cold winter so our stay was limited to one night. additionally staff was professional + friendly + accommodating to our request. I will be returning and I highly suggest if you are in a budget and desire to have a safe warm night. This is a place to explore. ps. I had no idea it was a resort. read more

Wonderful winter light show, but I can't recommend staying here. I stayed here about 4-5 years ago and had a pleasant time. We had a Summer stay Groupon and got a great rate with wine tastings included and an upgraded room with a fireplace. My parents and I have been on their mailing list since and have always been fans. We decided to go here for the holiday Christmas Market experience instead if going to Shore Acres because they advertised that it was the, "best year yet". We booked a holiday special for a basic room with admissions to their Holiday market, Christmas boot mugs, treats, and breakfast. We had gotten a special promo rate prior to Thanksgiving for $99.00 plus tax. We thought this was a great deal, and booked it with a reservation number and reservation confirmation email on November 17th. We checked in tonight (12/16), and the woman at the desk had no record of our reservation. We then showed our email and at first she didn't want to give us a room. Then when we double checked everything since we had a slight panic attack- and our email was right.....she was wrong. Then she gave us a room, but charged us $15 more. When we complained - she said this is our price tonight despite our email showing our designated lower price. She said we would have to wait till tomorrow to talk to a "manager" to override the price. Finally a manager just appeared and said - yes, override the price if they have an email showing it, but then the manager disappeared again. The desk attendent then did that, but would only give us mugs, treats, and admissions for just two people instead of three which was in the reservation. Then we had to argue more because she again said, "That's extra" again. We just had to argue and argue even with our email documents. Her name was Aramie. It was extremely upsetting, and we completely felt like a "bait and switch" situation. First it was like - no reservations - to okay, I will help you, but it will come with requesting more $ money. Very Frustrating and a distrustful experience. Just disillusioned. I can't recommend a hotel with such a horrible experience. I hate arguing with people, but we had to, to even get a room. It was very frustrating, and we probably won't stay here again because of all the heartache, trouble, and drama. Not a friendly experience. We went back that next morning and also complained about the oodles of cobwebs and broken lamp in our room. Our room wasn't updated and most things were unplugged. I couldn't plug my work tablet in the room because the sockets only had two-prong holes. The room looked like it haven't been used in months with all the cobwebs and abandoned/unplugged phone and alarm clock. We spoke with the manager in the morning- the same one who appeared and disappeared that past evening. She barely apologized for the issues we experienced. All she did was justify the situation and barely apologize. The woman checking out after us complained about much minor things during her check out, but she profusely apologized to her at least 4-5 times. She treated her Totally different than she did us, and we felt very unwelcomed. We told her we didn't think we would be coming back....and she acted like that was fine. Customer service wasn't professional here, which is very sad, since they used to be much better with everything. They need to get better associates who are good in the hospitality industry. read more

I just returned a few days ago from a 2 day stay at this wonderful hotel. I purchased a package deal on Travel Zoo for $139 which included 2 nights stay in a deluxe room, a free dinner, free continental breakfast and free wine tasting coupons. When I arrived at the hotel they added even more goodies to my package!! I received drink coupons, more winery coupons, breakfast, and lunch coupons. My husband and I had a ball using all of the coupons at the different places. Note: The $139 (or any package deal for that matter) does NOT include a hotel tax or gratuity. Please make sure you tip your waiters and bartenders accordingly. Hotel tax was only $5.75 so it's not a lot of money to worry about. Upon arrival we were greeted by a very friendly front desk lady. She gave us some maps and told us where to go for the wineries, covered bridges, etc... Anytime we came back to ask questions or needed something she was always willing to help in any way she could. She made us feel like we knew her for years!! She gets five stars for working on her 60th birthday. Now that is dedication!! Location: This hotel is in a great location for easy access to I-5 and for taking the covered bridge scenic highway. It's RIGHT next door to Wal-Mart. So if you forget anything or just need to stock up your mini-fridge, take a walk over and get your stuff. It's about 5 minutes from Downtown Cottage Grove. It's about 12 miles from the Chateau Lorane Winery. This is the winery that has the best coupon deal in the package, so you'll have to drive about 30 minutes through some hilly roads if you want to use your coupon, but trust me it is worth it just for the view alone!! Right up the street is the King Estate Winery, the biggest winery in Oregon, and also worthy of a visit just to be able to see the beautiful scenery from the top of the hill. Internet: They had no internet access in the rooms. If you wanted to get online you had to go to the lobby and access their free wireless. This can either be a downfall because you cant get online in your pajamas but this can also be a good thing because it keeps you offline to enjoy other things the hotel has to offer. When you DO need to get online, you can go and take your laptop and sit by the fire, or if you want, you can go and sit inside the lounge. There's some booths in there that are really close to sockets to plug in your computer.. Another perk of using the internet inside the lounge/bar is the bartender. He checks on you and takes good care of you! It's also a good time to use your $2 off drink coupon. Note: Bar closes at 11 PM but the bartender will let you hang around a bit longer until he finishes up his nightly inventory. Room: Very clean and cute and tastefully decorated. Nice wide closet plus many drawers, etc...for storage. Clean fresh linens and lots of pillows. NO Bedbugs!! The beds are a little soft so for those of you that sleep on a firmer mattress, be prepared for a slightly sore back. There's a little mini "foody" area with a microwave, fridge and small coffee pot with free packet coffees. There's a fireplace which was very nice to utilize in the 43º weather!!! The bathroom was VERY clean. Love the bow out shower curtain rod and the extra sink located outside of the bathroom. Tub and two sinks drained great. The outdoor private patio and sitting area were a nice added bonus. Parking: Ample and Free. You can literally park right in front of your room. Grounds: Absolutely gorgeous!! Very clean and neatly decorated pool and spa area. We sat in the spa at night and had it all to ourselves. They also have acres and acres of gardens with flowers, bushes, trees, etc...that you can walk through on the "paths" and see it all. Don't forget to open the "mailboxes" along the way. I would stay here again because of the excellent deals they offer and because of the exceptional customer service, but I would hope by my next trip that they have internet in the rooms. HOW DARE YOU call this a resort. I booked a Valentine's Day package, which includes "champagne" and chocolate covered strawberries. The "champagne" was a room temperature $5 bottle of cook's, which was super disappointing. The room is out-dated and drab, mattress old and creaky and the place is less nice than the last motel 6 I crashed in while on a road trip. The "gardens" aren't really much, but to their defense it's February. The fan in the bathroom made an awful racket, the vanity sink and the shower drained slowly, what's worse than being in a 4 inch puddle while you shower! Everything was super low quality including the towels, bedding, pillows, TV, shower head, faucet and furniture. The exterior was disgusting and I mean super gross. Look at the pics I attached. There was an old newspaper framed on the wall that was rotted and decayed, tons of spider webs and dead bugs behind the outside light, dry rotted carport, dilapidated roof, faded paint, stained sidewalks, random pipes hanging from the building and a total lack of up keep in general. Update: it seems that we were put I. The rooms that weren't fully remodeled and there are some that have been. I think it's insane that we were put in the dumpy part of the place, while others got the nice rooms. I've contacted moonstone and asked for a refund, but no answer yet. read more

This place is super-affordable & amazing. Oh my goodness. My husband & I came here for our anniversary & it was lovely. Bathtub medium size...at first the room seemed cold but after a few hours with that heater & you'll be sweating by morning. There's a beautiful lil yard with 2 chairs you can enjoy during the day. The jacuzzi was not that warm, so I recommend calling reception ahead & telling them to turn heat up before you go & getting a large, fluffy robe from a vintage store to change in so you don't freeze on the trek back to your room. The FREE breakfast was by far my favorite part. You can make your own Belgian waffles, so good. Everything is yummy. & you get to sit in booths & its romantically dim lit. Great find for an overnight or weekend stay. The rooms are very old school and dated. But we loved the form factor! We went with a suite and it was a great deal for the amount of space plus they are all single story so nobody staying above you! It was so peaceful and quiet even on a Friday night starting out the Memorial Day weekend. Grounds are beautiful and the pool/hot tub were right behind our room. Plus, the free breakfast was great. Mostly continental but they did have the waffle irons going and the waffles were very good. We would definitely stay here again when driving through Oregon. read more

I purchased a Travelzoo voucher for $139 that included 2 weekend nights, dinner for 2 one night, breakfast both days, a bottle of wine and wine tasting at participating wineries. I think it was a great deal but don't expect resort quality. The hotel/room has an old rustic country feel to it. Rooms are old and smelly. Pillows are flat and the sheets are dry and scratchy. For $10 more, I should have gotten the deluxe room... supposedly nicer with a fireplace, private deck & mini fridge. I would not stay here if it wasn't for the voucher. Food was decent, a little better than a typical family restaurant and the portions are enough to share. I hope you are outdoorsy becausr the town is really small and there are not much to do. There is a 30 miles rt hike/bike trail, covered bridges, wineries and trestle creek falls. You must visit King Estate winery. It's not one of the participating winery but it's worth a visit. A beautiful Tuscan style winery sits on top on the hill with 360° view of the vineyards... it's breathtaking! I wish I would have visited in october to see the changing leaves or late spring/summer to see all the flowers. I heard their 14 acres garden is beautiful. read more

This review is for their Christmas lights festival. I've never stayed at the hotel or restaurant. The Christmas festivities were just the right size for a night out with the family and I was really impressed by the amount of work and care they've put into the event! I was skeptical, but I'll throw my weight behind Village Green. Santa, adult beverages, cabanas with bonfires, hot cocoa, food, and lights and merriment. Get there when it opens so you don't have to wait in food/Santa lines, and the weekdays are probably good for that too. My only disappointment was that they advertised some live entertainment, it was Saturday evening after all, yet had none going in the 2 hrs we spent there. Staff was super friendly, family oriented, and helpful. Head there this year, especially if you have little ones who still get awed by medium-sized light displays and Santa. 18 min drive right down the 5! read more

How this hotel has received good reviews is beyond me. I didn't look at the grounds, nor did I care about the lobby. I was passing through town and needed to use the hotel to sleep for the night. It's laughable that this hotel would have reviews on par with W hotels, because I just felt like I was at a dumpy, out of date, tacky, and uncomfortable motel 6 from the 70s. First, the bed. It felt like laying on a hay bed from the midevil times. The springs slap against your back and you can almost feel them piercing to your back. The ground likely would have been better. Second, the whole room itself is old, ugly, and lacking. Third, the shower head was so low (the head part was between 5 feet and 5'2" up, so no normal person could shower in it. I had to get on my knees to be able to take a shower. It had a gross, old shower liner that was falling off the rod, which I took pictures of for documentation. Also in the bathroom I found a opened condom wrapper behind the toilet. Finally, when I checked in after a long drive I was met by an unpleasant person that did not make me feel welcomed at all. You couldn't pay me to stay at this place again. read more

Where do I begin? The hotel fire that prevented us from checking in? The room that was never cleaned? Or the hotel staff laughing and talking about how they were messing with us. We came for a wedding, and first problem began when we couldn't check in due to a large fire at the hotel that closed down the I5. However, fires can't be helped so we overlooked it. On day 2 we went for breakfast and lunch. We came back and our room hadn't been clean. We left up the sign. We were out of towels and toilet paper. I called to ask for our room to be clean and the man I talked to Scott, couldn't have been more rude. He kept sighing and saying did we have the sign up, said we had too many people in the room ( We are a family of 4 with a 4 and 1.5 year old pretty standard.) . I asked for towels and the room to be cleaned. He eventually said sure. Post wedding, we come back to a dirty room, no towels, and we happened to find toilet paper. I complained at checkout and asked for a manager. I was told she would call me. I went to grab coffee, but as I was returning to my car I heard the staff ( blonde haired gal talking to a man), saying and laughing, " Oh yeah they were NEVER going to get their room cleaned, and Scott was messing with them asking about the sign, it was hilarious oh and let me tell you one more thing....At this point the gal saw me, looked surprised shushed the man and closed the office door. I am Jewish and my husband is Indian. I don't know why a hotel would refuse to clean a room. We travel often and this has never happened to me before. Unfortunately, I can't prove it but it seems like the staffs behavior towards us was based in racism and anti-Semitism. Cost: After their website glitched while trying to make my reservation, we arrived and the night clerk said to talk with the morning clerk about the online deal for the price. We did just that. At check out our bill was almost $100 more then it should have been. The clerks said to talk with management on a week day. Management still only credited us half the over charge. Property: The 14 acres of gardens are beautiful. Unfortunately, it is filled with noise pollution from the freeway next door. Two nights all we could hear was the race track across the freeway and freeway. Beautiful to the eyes, but ugly on the ears. Rooms: We were graced with a newly renovated room after the front desk clerk implied the older rooms were less than desirable. The room was gorgeous until we tried to use the ac. It made a constant squeal so we had to turn it off and open a window. Did I mention the race track and freeway? Dining: The breakfast is a basic continental Motel 6 style. For lunch we tried out the bar. The waiter was less then educated in food. I am allergic to wheat and he assumed that meant flour. I went safe and ordered grilled veggies and a salad. My hubby, who is GF in support ordered a burger on GF bun and fries. The fries being breaded, I said they weren't GF. The waiter corrected me, but came back 10 minutes later and said he was wrong and traded my hubby fries for a salad with ranch. We found out at dinner, the ranch was also not GF. Dinner was amazing. The chef supplemented the prime rib dinner to be GF and the waiter, (Mark or Matt I can't remember), was more than educated on GF and went above and beyond to make sure our food was safe for me and delicious. No we will not be going back, but may go there for dinner and walk the grounds sometime. read more

What a wonderful surprise! After getting stuck in the area due to weather instead of making it to our original destination we were not happy campers. Fortunately we picked this great inn. The price was so low that I didn't expect much but ended up being happily surprised with every new turn. Apparently it's under new ownership and has been heavily revamped, but all I know is we had a great room with a fireplace, fridge, microwave, and patio area, at a lovely inn with 2 great restaurants, live music at night, great staff, and all at an astonishingly low price. I also noticed that Yelp shows 3 $ signs where it should probably be 2 since 1 would be for really shady places. :) Enjoy your stay, we certainly did! read more

Great Couples rms. with fireplaces, very comfy & spacious, all the rooms are spacious, only difference in the Pet Rm has no FP, but both have Beautiful Patios! Now the double suite is just that, it is the older part of the hotel, cute & quaint, probably my favorite, as I could escape to the other room without Waking the Hubby!(It doesn't have a patio/fp, you overlook gardens/pool area!(please remember this is probably the Original Rooms from the 60's! NOT FAMILY FRIENDLY Absolutely the worst customer service ever. I will never return to the village green. Here's the thing: When I was 21 years old this was the place to go drink hang out and have a good time. Fast forward 10 years. Friday Nov 15th 2019 I took my family there to have dinner. When I say family it was my husband, myself, our 3 year old, our 6 month old and my parents. The baby was asleep and my toddler had his tablet and being well behaved. First we walk into the lounge to eat dinner(miners are allowed in there till 8pm). Some stuck up customers had some words to say about my kids being in there so we decided to go to the restaurant. We walked in waited a few minutes to be acknowledged. Once acknowledged she said they'd put a table together for us and it would be a moment. 20 mins went by and they didn't have anything put together. However in that 20 mins I gots several dirty looks from a stuck up snob waitress. That's when my family and I decided to go elsewhere and give someone else our money. Now as we left I called to complain. I talked to a gentleman at front desk who transferred me to the voicemail of the restaurant manager. Didn't hear anything back all weekend. I called back on Monday and Tuesday and the manager who was working at that time said that it was not acceptable of the workers and she was forwarding my contact information to the general manager. We're now on Thursday and I've yet to hear back. My husband called today and said he wanted to talk to the GM before we posted a review online. Funny after that my husband got a callback with in 5 mins. The GM Jake called my husband and proceeded to tell him his staff wouldn't do such things. Then wouldn't allow my husband to talk. When he mentioned we've called several times and never got called back he said thats not possible. So now Jake is calling us liars. Hey Mr. Jake if you'd like I'd be more then happy to bring you my cell phone bill to show the multiple calls. I highly recommend staying clear of such a horrible place. Needed a place to stay the night on our trip with our small dog and found Village Green on Expedia. It was perfect! And the price was more than reasonable. The room was clean and comfortable, they had amenities for the pup and even a little backyard for him to run around in. It was very easy access off the highway and we were towing a small utility trailer and they even had overflow parking for us mid week. Definitely would stay there again. read more

I read the reviews prior to booking our reservations and I have to wonder if I was at the same property! Let me also start by saying that I believe everybody deserves a chance to correct a situation. Having said that, I wrote Moonstone properties on January 23, sending my list of complaints along with photographs to back it up and have not received any type of reply. I am so ready to be done with this experience so in a nutshell: 1. Upon arrival they could not accommodate us in the rooms (2) we were confirmed although the property appeared quite empty. 2. OUR fireplace (the only way to heat a room) works on a thermostat ( we had to call, no directions) so therefore every time it went on during the night the entire room lit up. 3. The other rooms fireplace operated on a switch, therefore if in fact you wanted any warmth, the entire room glowed the entire night. 4. The mattress pad was so old, small and worn so thin that every time we/I moved it scrunched up under us. Asked for another the following morning only to be told there were not any! 5. The lotion that was placed in our room had "removable" brown spots on it. I had to use Kleenex to throw it away! Y U C K Y! 6. Unless you like lots of polyester lumps under your head at night, bring your own pillow. 7. dinner was another issue and the wine (that was included) could not even be used as salad dressing. I can not tell you how disappointed I am writing this review. The Village Green Resort (VGR) is the first Moonstone Property (MP) that disappointed the wife and I, and, in a big way. After celebrating our 30th anniversary traveling through the wine religions of Oregon and Washington the wife and were on our return trip to our home in California. We planned a stay at the VGR to break up our travel. After 7 hours of driving we arrived at the VGR late in the evening, around 11pm. Tired from the festivities of the week and ready to crash for the night we were stunned by the poor standards of the so called "luxury suite" we were given. Adjacent to a field of parked rigs, 5th wheels, and motor homes the room was a throw back to a 1950's apartment, with an old dingy couch, carpet, fixtures, etc., there were multiple entry doors from locations that just had no rhyme or reason for being there, and the mattress was so hard you could feel the springs. Another reviewer wrote "creepy" to define the place, exactly!! I no longer believe that all Moonstone Properties are created equal and certainly will no longer choose nor recommend Moonstone Properties if I have not experienced the facility prior. read more

A fantastic little getaway! The location is convenient to the rest of town and very close to the community theater. As David S mentioned, it's a great area for wine tasting and bike riding, especially being near so many covered bridges. I was very pleased with our lodgings. Go for the deluxe room and you can't go wrong. The beds are quite comfy, the room is large and complete with a gas fireplace, fridge, microwave and even a little patio. We stayed during the off-season and it was very quiet and peaceful. The Gardens on the grounds make for a lovely morning or after dinner stroll. My biggest complaint was that I wished they kept their spa open year-round. They also have a salon, but we didn't use it. I was equally happy with the food here. Breakfast is pretty much a continental affair with waffles and some rubbery eggs. The restaurant dinner was very good but we preferred the fun atmosphere of the bar. You can order from the restaurant menu in the bar too. In the bar there was a stellar happy hour with food and drink specials and live music everyday at the time of our stay. We received a special promotion in 2016 for a wine tour and two night stay at the Resort. Unfortunately we were unable to use it but they agreed to apply the amount to our stay this year - which we appreciated. As a photographer and gardener - I realized the gardens they advertise would not be that great in April but I did not expect the condition to be as bad as it was - even considering a rainy winter. In talking to people - I found out they use to have 7 gardeners and are now down to 3 - who are doing a nice job of keeping the area around the rooms looking great but apparently have no time to hit the gardens. Since that is the main feature of the resort - it seems like they need to change their methods. The room was real nice - we did pay to get an upgrade. Talking to our neighbor - they had not and their original room was awful. They also upgraded and were happy with the new room. Little things that change a place from a Motel 8 to a resort could make a big improvement. We did not get a bath mat the first day. They towels are Motel 8 quality and on the smaller size for a resort. I slipped badly in the shower the first day since they use a liquid shampoo, conditioner and body wash dispenser which apparently leaked on the shower floor. We had a fire place for heat which was nice and the king size bed very comfortable. There is a patio in the back with a small private garden and a view of the garden work area. We stopped at the lounge on Tuesday and they had one person - bartender/waitress/dish washer (per her). It took over 15 minutes to be greeted and 45 minutes to get our appetizers. We had Buffalo Wings and a French Dip which were both good. We had dinner in the restaurant the next night - which is set up nice and comfortable. They again cut cost and took the restaurant down from a Resort to a Sizzler. No ground pepper on the salad - cheap steak knives, etc. The presentation of the food was good but didn't make up for the quality. I wanted the special Tri-Tip Steak but the best they could do was medium and I prefer it rare. I chose the New York Steak 12oz topped with roasted garlic peppercorn butter $22. The vegetables were great but the steak was of Sizzler quality and nothing special. My wife had the Tri-Colored Cheese Tortellini Sautéed with shallots, garlic and mushrooms in your choice of an herb cream sauce or marinara with grilled chicken for $21. She said the chicken was way overdone and very dry. There were only two other couples in the restaurant when we arrived and half way though our meal they were empty. No reason for the chicken to be over cooked. It is our understanding the place is not advertised locally and many locals don't even know about it. NOTE - my review on yelp for the "Seasons at the Green" restaurant was the first - even though they have been opened for some time. I am not sure how it qualifies as a resort. Poor gardens, no indoor pools, poor service in the lounge and a restaurant that rivals a Sizzler steakhouse at best. Sources believe this place is for sale and as such they are neglecting it and significantly cutting cost. If you are looking for a nice moderate motel - get the upgraded rooms and spend the night. If you are looking for a resort - go north to their sister resort at the Oregon Gardens. read more

Deceptive. The front desk refused to honor "dining or lounge credit" advertised with their Groupon offer. Maintained it's an error on Groupon's part and refused to do anything about it. Rooms are dated with a musty smell. Breakfast fare is spartan. First time using Groupon, first time staying here; likely the last. lol read more

My wife and I have stayed there several times over the past few years and the love place. The deluxe rooms are a must, since the decor and comfort value is well worth the up-charge. I do wish the pool and Jacuzzi was open more. The last trip it wasn't open and both my wife and I were dying to get in. Local things to do are wineries and biking. We packed some snacks on our last bike trip in May and enjoyed the snacks along the river under the one of the many covered bridges. On previous trips we hit 8 of the local wineries, tasting many fantastic wines and buying a travel wine case, which we've used on later trips to Sonoma, CA. The restaurant is phenomenal!, with the best Prime Rib I've ever had, a must order for us red meat eaters. However, please refraining from ordering if I'm there! They can, and usually run out late in the evening! read more

CONS: Mattresses have springs like a box spring, worst bed I ever slept on I think. I was certain there was no mattress at all, that I was lying on the box springs, because I felt thick springs digging into my hips, ribs, shoulders. I checked - well, below what I was laying on was a box spring so I guess this was what considered a mattress! I looked for a blanket to put under me for padding but found none. And I like firm beds! Very rough night, woke sore and aching and was expecting to see physical bruises. No visible bruises turns out. Until I got into bed I was so impressed with this place for the price. Common surfaces were quite clean, but beyond that it was pretty gross - spider webs, dead beetles, thick crusts of dirt, etc. Floors vacuumed, but do not look around the walls/baseboards because 4 inches from all walls the floors were filthy. A couple lights did not work, one sink barely drained, and electrical was very sketchy with many old and wonky extension cords and the like. Weak wifi. PROS: My room, and those around me, had little fenced in yards with chairs and even a little tree, so cool. Another great plus is that my room had two sinks with mirrors, one in the bathroom, and another just outside of that. Great for two persons. Barely received two stars. But, the basics were there, and there was the mini back-yard which was awesome. read more

I first stayed at the Village Green Resort a few years ago and I can summarize my reaction then in one sentence: The grounds were beautiful, but the hotel was a dump. I just completed a stay at the all new, remodeled Village Green, and...well, the grounds are still beautiful and the hotel is still a dump. The problem seems to be that the remodeling was done on the cheap. (Although I'm sure it didn't seem that way to whoever paid the bills.) Yes, the Village Green has new furnishings and some fresh paint, but very little was done to upgrade the substructures--like the electrical and plumbing. Here are some examples of the problems I encountered on my recent stay. I checked in at the end of an eight-hour drive and unloaded my gear. That's when I discovered the room's heating and A/C didn't work. Actually, there were bits and pieces of four heater-A/C units in the room and none of them worked. An hour and three phone calls later, I was upgraded to a suite with two queen beds, refrigerator, microwave, and working A/C. Well, the beds were doubles and there was no microwave, but two for four is about par for the course at the Village Green. But wait! There's more! After moving into my new digs I discovered that the only wall outlet near the table where one might logically place one's laptop didn't work. The television screen in the main living area of the suite was about the size of my laptop monitor and the remote had no number buttons, so changing channels was accomplished by moving up or down one channel at a time until you got where you wanted to be. The bathrooms are still finished in fifties-vintage ceramic tile, although it is in remarkably good shape. Unfortunately, the floor was covered with porous tile that seems gritty and dirty. In fact it WAS dirty. That was because it only took housekeeping five minutes to give the room a "complete service." (In most hotels, that takes at least 20 minutes.) Oh, and the inch-long dead moth in plain sight on the bathroom floor was still there after the "complete service." But wait! There's still more! How could things get worse? How about no hot water in the morning? I kid you not! The Village Green was experiencing a plumbing issue, so it was a cold shower or nothing! After my invigorating shower, I headed out to partake of the highly touted free breakfast buffet. Well, it's free until you read the fine print. Unlike most hotels, the Village Green's free breakfast is only offered once during your stay. And it's only free for two people. If you're traveling with kids, for example, their breakfasts will cost you an additional $7.50 a pop. What's included in the $7.50 free breakfast buffet? Limp French toast, cold roasted potatoes, coagulated scrambled eggs, funky link sausages, some pretty fair biscuits and gravy, and a pretty sorry collection of accompaniments. You'll find a better breakfast with more healthy choices at any Holiday Inn Express. The owners call this place a "resort," but apparently that term is rather loosely applied in the boondocks of Oregon. The only application of the word "resort" that fits the Village Green is LAST resort if you can't get into a Motel Six somewhere nearby. read more

The front desk staff was very kind and prompt. The restaurant staff was accommodating, we came in an hour before closing, since we had been driving all day. The room was very clean and spacious. If we're ever in the area again we will definitely stay again. read more

HARD ASS BED. Oh my f****** god I can't believe I paid to stay here. Was moved to another room after completely unpacking. TV no pic. Was moved around 930 pm. Deluxe room .... really ??? Why? No fridge.. coffee machine but no coffee or sweetner. Shower dispenser was filled with the cheapest nasty shampoo could have been flea shampoo idk. It stunk! Burnt out lightbulbs. Free WiFi.... HELL NO not in my room nor out side had to be in main building. My parents invited me to meet them for a few days of visiting gardens, covered bridges and antique stores. Dad decided that the Village Green Resort was the place to stay. Our rooms were clean and comfortable. They had private patios and bathrooms that were straight out of another century. Mine had a pink commode and sink while my parent's room had blue. We enjoyed complimentary breakfast both mornings that included fresh fruit and juice, do it yourself waffle irons, a selection of cereals and breads for toasting. We also enjoyed a nice dinner in the restaurant. The staff were helpful and friendly. We especially loved the whimsical gardens around the resort. They offer a great experience at a reasonable price. read more

We chose the Village Green because it was a Moonstone property and we had been happy with their Cambria Pines facility. This was comparatively disappointing. Cons: The breakfast was meager and not well stocked. Dinner was a real disappointment. Not only was my prime rib poorly cooked but our waiter was slow and didn't even offer us coffee which came with the meal. There was no one to seat incoming guests and we had to wait for a waitress to finally notice us standing there. The gardens were not taken care of and some of the grass was very high. Definitely was not inviting to walk through. Pros: Our room was spacious, clean and well appointed. The entertainment in the lounge was very enjoyable. The pub and front desk staff were helpful and pleasant. read more
