I must agree with the review that says problems start at the top of management. The owner passed away and his daughter inherited the building (that's what I heard anyway). When concerns were brought to her about Janice and her staff she mocked me and did nothing. Janice was a marketing director. She became the Executive Director and I do not believe she ever had prior caregiving experience. She never checked / or seemed to care on what was going on inside those houses. She was often understaffed and residents were neglected. From my miserable experience of having my father there I heard of 2 people who died from falls that may have been prevented with proper staffing and care. I also was told of a women who died because she was ill and staff was not doing much to help her. One staff member advocated for her to be seen by a doctor or nurse, but her voice was dismissed and the woman died. That employee was heart broken and left her position there promptly. The final straw for me and two other family members of residents : they were allowing employees to bring their sick children to the home while they "worked" and they all had Covid with symptoms!!! In fact they were pushing them to come to work even though they were symptomatic. Avid this place. It's very sad to see that many of these facilities are mainly focused on making money rather than providing the best care for helpless seniors. It can happen to any of us, anyone of us can end up in a place like this and change needs to happen!! My reason for this review is to thank Bishop whom was the amazing caregiver taking care of my mother. Bishop would always make my mother smile and laugh. She had anxiety and depression with her dementia on days when Bishop wasn't there. There were falls and issues on days when he wasn't there. Mom and other residents said he made the best food. Most of the time The Villas had staff quitting and short staffing where people had shuffle to cover other Villa as well as their own. Thank god Bishop was there making my mother smile till the end! We love you for being such an exceptional human being and knowing mom was getting the very best care when you were there. read more

My father has improved both physically and mentally over the past year living at the Villas. He has made new friends and is no longer depressed. His room is very nice with his own private bathroom. Staff is attentive and administration is easy to get ahold of. Love this place! read more

I would NEVER recommend The Villas at La Canada. The people who worked there clearly were unhappy and it showed in the way my grandmother was treated. One of the caregivers was verbally abusive towards me with bizarre false accusations and I placed a complaint but nothing was done! Our experience there made our family heartbreak even worse. We witnessed several extremely uncaring events towards our grandmother and there was zero accountability on The Villas part. Plus many items were stolen and no knew if there was a lost and found. I even caught a caregiver stealing my phone charger and she said she was only borrowing it!? Getting our proper refund was yet another added challenge. There are many other reputable facilities in Tucson to choose from. All I can add to this review except it was our daughter is the Management Team now and for last 4yrs have no idea how to manage an Assistant Living Facility. All the good Caregivers and Care Managers quit. The management problem starts at the top. If you have a love one that can't speak for themselves and they are the Residence they want. I would give zero stars if I could. This place should really be shut down. Below is my experience. My comments deal only with the 10-resident Memory Care villa at the facility, where my dad lived for 14 months. He was suffering from severe dementia. CARE: I initially chose this facility because 1) it allowed my dad to bring his dog, and 2) I was told that he would receive memory therapy to stimulate his cognition. That therapy never happened. When he fell and required a trip to the emergency room, they put him in an ambulance - alone - and called me later. I was beside myself with worry. A dementia patient sent off to the emergency room ALONE??? The facility did not even know which hospital he was taken to. Their lack of concern resulted in a terrifying 2 hours for me while I called around hospitals in the area trying to locate him. COMMUNICATION: they use an automated phone system now, so it's nearly impossible to speak to someone, regardless of which option you press. If you leave a voicemail, nobody calls you back. MEDICAL RECORDS: I made repeated written requests to review his medical records, as the residency contract requires. But when I visited I was only allowed to see his vital signs records. I was told to ask the contracted Nurse Practitioner for medical records, which he refused to release since he's a contractor and thus not obligated by my contract with the facility. STAFFING: during my dad's 14-month stay in the Memory Care unit, the facility had 4 different Executive Directors. The second one bragged to me that she'd fired 30 people in her first week. The third one ignored my voicemails, emails, and requests to meet with her at her convenience. I never did get to speak to her. Caregivers routinely call in sick, leaving the villa staffed by one person. That caregiver is responsible for waking all 10 residents, getting them dressed, dispensing medication, preparing meals, and dealing with issues that arise. If the caregiver orders in pizza because he doesn't have time to prepare lunch, he told me that management would not reimburse him. REFUNDS: after I gave the required 30-day written notice to terminate residency, the contract states that the facility will refund the security deposit and unused portion of the last month's prepaid rent WITHIN 30-60 DAYS. After that time period had elapsed and we had not received the refund due, I contacted the business office for an explanation. None was forthcoming. I contacted them again after another week had passed, and notified them that if the refund was not swiftly issued I would get my lawyer involved. When I finally received the check, it was 3 weeks overdue. It had been written the day I mentioned my lawyer, and not mailed for another 11 days. read more

I would NEVER recommend this facility to any living being. In the 16 months that my mother was a resident there, we experienced the worst of the worst. From lying staff members, LAZY staff members, staff that brought their teenagers to watch the residents while the paid staff went out for smoke breaks. Hundreds of dollars worth of clothing, bathroom necessities, personal belongings lost or stolen with no explanation as to where they went. Uneducated staff that would argue with family when they were in the wrong. My mother needed daily assistance with wheelchair transfers to her bed and she was left to do this alone and it got so bad that she cut her leg on her wheelchair and we were told that the cna's were dressing and cleaning her wound only to find an extreme infection (photo provided.) "Managers" that didn't care when we reported attempted sexual assault from a male resident. My mother was moved to another home on the property and I was never informed and spoke to then nurse Sally who blatantly lied to me stating that she left a voicemail. I even got my phone records to prove to them that I never received a call nor voicemail and the "manager" who no longer works there stated that she believed Sally over me. A worker in Villa L was out smoking while her teenage daughter was "watching" the home and I found my mother chocking on her food and asked for her to call 911 and I got so upset that this girl posing as an employee did not know where the telephone was all the while I am attempting to perform the Heimlich maneuver and finally the real employee comes in reeking of smoke and got upset with me! because I stated that these employees don't know what they are doing......also my first experience with a staff member by the name of Monique who was eventually fired who worked in Villa L, came up to me to warn me of a potential rapist that was working on the property. After going to upper management to discuss my concerns I was assured this was not correct and for the 11 months that followed I was endlessly harassed and treated with disrespect from Monique, though my intentions were to make sure my mother was safe and not to get her in trouble. She lied to me that she called the cops on another staff member for stealing my mom's shoes yet that was never the case according to management.....She eventually was fired because she was stealing food stamps from another resident. The list goes on but please don't ever send your loved one to this HELL HOLE. It may have brand new paint on the walls and look beautiful from the outside but what exists are disgusting individuals who go to work to not care about your family member and sit on their lazy butts and lie and make life worse for you and your family. read more

I was looking to place my uncle and was brought here by a placement agency. I felt the place looked clean and nice so I gave them a $1,000.00 deposit at their request to hold the room. Unfortunately I had to cancel the next day. The owner refuses to return my calls and I was told by their employee Lanora that they will not return my deposit. So glad I did not place my uncle here. If they ripped off my deposit imagine how they treat their residents. RUN read more

This is a care facility for the elderly that you should STAY CLEAR of. The brochure looks fantastic. They promise home cooked meal's ( canned soup, grilled cheese sandwiches for dinner), activities daily ( never), caring staff, (switch staff around ever week). They have horrible management and some of the units have torn couches, chairs that are on the verge of breaking, swings outside has been destroyed by a storm over year ago. It looks new and beautiful outside and they give you a fantastic tour, but once you have signed the paperwork it is all over. Some of the patience do not even get simple care. (toes, baths, help dressing) Keep your love ones FAR AWAY!!! read more
