I was referred to Virginia Endodontics by my dentist at Stonewall Dentistry for an evaluation as I as having intermittent sharp, searing pain when I eat small or really hard crunchy food. Overview: I had a very positive experience. Their work was very well done and their staff was professional. Performance: The evaluation was pretty standard. Dr. Fein (pronounced Fine) used ice picks to see if I could feel them. I needed a root canal and this was really well done. Even my dentist asked about it since it was well done and also the hole made was smaller than what she normally sees. They injected numbing agents (they offered gas if I felt anxious) and they had tools that made it easier to keep my mouth from closing or reacting to the procedure. Since they were cleaning out a nerve, there was some pain, but he was able to warn me before I felt anything. Staff: The staff was friendly and professional. I showed up late, but they didn't see bothered or annoyed which I appreciate. During the procedure, Dr. Fein taught his assistant about the procedure which I appreciate. I listened in and learned a few things, but it prevented the whole procedure from being just drilling. Facility: There are only a few chairs, but I didn't wait very long considering I showed up a little late for my appointments. There is a water dispenser but not restroom in office. There is one down the hallway and the office is located in a commercial building. The office was clean and well maintained. The chair had a TV for viewing if you get bored. read more

Dr. Djeu provided an excellent experience for me today. She provided very detailed information based off my x-ray and exam and answered all of my questions and husbands questions regarding next steps of treatment. My dentist had referred me to see an endodontist due to thinning roots. If I should start to experience pain I definitely feel I will be in good hands with Dr. Djeu to provide treatment when needed as she explained it will need to be done down the road but not immediately. Additionally, she informed the front office to provide a discount for the visit as I have no insurance. read more

I'm so relieved to have a root canal done by Dr Huang (hope I spelt it right) thank god I was so nervous after being hurt pretty bad by another dentist. Her assistant Tiffany was also the best assistant I've ever met and I've been to a few dentist the last two years unfortunately...I just wish she could do my crown as I am dreading going to another dentist. The front desk lady (blonde hair) was also extremely professional, but as I said I would fly back here if I needed treatment and lived elsewhere in the future. I preface this review by saying I am a dentist who has practiced for a total of 33 years ( 2 USNavy, 21 years Brunswick MD, 10 years Carlsbad CA.). Brian Lee DDS is an outstanding endodontist and I have known many over my 33 year career. I returned to the Virginia area recently and found that I had a symptomatic tooth requiring root canal therapy. I was referred to Dr Lee who performed my root canal for me. He did a picture perfect job in every way possible. Staff was amazing and very professional; giving injection was painless ( I was comfortably numb throughout entire procedure); he explained everything he was doing even though I have done 1000s of root canals in my own career; he worked efficiently and precisely; and he followed with me post op ( true sign of a class act). I have an upcoming root canal, but I've also been seen to evaluate the health of a another tooth to determine if it was best to have it extracted. Is it possible to enjoy a root canal? Well, I did. Not once, but twice. I usually hate going to the dentist, but knew I had to take of the infection. So my dentist referred me to The Virginia Endodontic Group. Dr Brian Lee (no relation to me) explained everything very thoroughly and said that one tooth most likely needed a root canal to get rid of the infection and gave me time to decide whether I wanted to get a root canal on my second tooth. He told me what symptoms to look for and when I experienced the symptoms, I came back for my second root canal. The entire staff was friendly and had excellent bedside manners. Most importantly, the work was done well and in a timely manner. I did not have to wait to be seen for either of my appts. In fact, I was 10 minutes early today and was promptly seen. Great service and fantastic high quality dental work -- but have good insurance as it can be expensive. My only quam was that they have a policy of almost never giving out pain killers -- even after a two hour double root canal. If you're like me, you may have to plead for something stronger than Tylenol. Other than that, I'm thoroughly satisfied with my experience and the work they did. read more

I was referred to see Dr Brian Lee for root infection, I had root canal done by another dentist 10 yrs ago, and it's a brand new crown that I just recently replaced, so for Dr Lee to redo the root canal on a brand new crown was a very tough job, Dr Lee was so professional and awesome, the results was fantastic, the even better experience was, I paid the deductible which was more than the actual insurance not paid portion, without me even calling, they sent me a check of the difference that I overpaid, their office has a top notch team, from front desk to dental assistant and of course Dr Lee, they are the best! read more

I can't heap enough praise and gratitude for this group, but I will try. I was eight years old, it was the early sixties, when my Mom dragged me to an rinky dink dentist office and the dentist performed a root canal on me without anesthesia of any kind, complete with my wrists strapped to the chair. I can still see his face. Smiling. Western Dental was another nightmare. Never go to Western Dental! They are assembly line practice. Another root canal, which took six hours because of their assembly line method. This time the last dentist who finally completed the six hour ordeal, left cement in the gum line and tooth. I was in excruciating pain for two weeks until they discovered their mistake. I also had reaction to the an obscure pain medication they prescribed. Because of other medical health problems I have, it took almost four months to recover from this. That being said, my fears and anxiety were almost immediately addressed and assuaged the first time I entered the reception at The Virginia Endodontic Group in Chantilly. The entire office and staff at Virginia Endodontic are welcoming and patient and kind. They know some of us have dentist phobia. Or just plain anxious. They are as courteous on the phone answering my questions as they are in person. Every dentist I encountered was just as kind and patient and knowledgeable. Taking their time to explain their reasonings for any procedures, offering options. Dr. Huang could not have been more patient and gentle with my initial exam. By the time I returned for another visit, Dr. Huang happened to be on vacation. So I saw Dr. Grace Djeu. The shining star here is Dr. Grace Djeu who saved me a huge expense by actually NOT doing an root canal because X-rays and scan showed my tooth was not salvageable. Another dentist office could have encouraged me to through with the procedure, and gambled with the outcome. That in and of itself, forthright honesty, is enough to recommend this office to anyone who might be a little or a lot anxious about dentists, who want clear and concise explanations of possible procedures and above all, who want the assurance of an office of integrity and respect for their patients. read more

I visited the Alexandria office a couple of weeks ago and saw Dr Hsu. This was the worst root canal experience I have had and I've had several of them over the years. Dr. Hsu was obviously in a hurry and wanted to get my procedure done as quickly as possible. He was not happy that I wanted nitrous and tried to talk me out of it. HIs explanation was that I would be finished more quickly and that the tooth was in a difficult location (upper back). As he was numbing me, he did not wait long enough for the numbing gel to work before he injected the novocaine. I felt my gums (on the inside) crunch as he jammed the needle in my skin. The procedure was over in about an hour and he explained that due to the large abscess, he would have to do the rest at another visit. He also told me I did well and that I didn't really need the nitrous; that my "fear" was all in my head. (I explained that I had a dentist drill into my nerve and tell me that he was unable to numb me.) That experience was not "all in my head" and I felt belittled. I left the office with a prescription for an antibiotic and was told to use ibuprofen or Tylenol for the small amount of pain I might experience. I decided to go over the Walmart next door and get my prescription before I took the 40 minute drive home. Within about 30 minutes of leaving the office, I was in the most excruciating pain I have ever felt. Apparently, Dr. Hsu chose not to use the "long acting" novocaine (I have since learned that there is such a thing) and the type he used wore off very quickly. I waited for an hour for my prescription and was in so much pain that my mouth was drooling and I could not close it. I considered calling someone to pick me up or having the pharmacist call the ER. But, I didn't want to leave my car in Alexandria when I live in Centreville. I did a lot of self talk and told myself I could do it. I barely remember the drive home. When I got home, it took 2 percocets just to get the pain under control. Ibuprofen did not even dull the pain. For the next 5 days, I slept and continued to use the Percocet to dull the pain. On the following day, I visited another endodontist, Dr Strittmatter. He drilled the canals and found that they were full of infection. He cleaned them out and refilled them. He explained that the abscess was very large and the draining of it into my canals was the cause of the pain. He used a long acting Novocaine so that I felt nothing all the way up to bedtime. He prescribed more antibiotic and Percocet and told me that if I felt extreme pain the next day that he would clean it out again for me. Other than the location of the injections (I did not feel the needle at all because he waited until the numbing gel worked), I had NO pain after this procedure. Dr. S was very kind and very compassionate and had no issues with my desire for nitrous. Today, I went back to Dr Strittmatter and he finished the root canal. Again, I have no pain and I am so grateful for his kindness. Although as far as I know, Dr. Hsu completed the procedure correctly. However, compassion and kindness make all the difference for me. I believe he should have cared about my feelings as a patient. I also believe that as a professional, he should have known that this had the potential to be extremely painful (especially since he couldn't finish the procedure due to the large infection). Why did I not matter enough to him to go the extra mile? That was the message I received and I will not return. read more

I was referred to this practice by my regular dentist to have a look at a troublesome tooth under a bridge. I saw Dr. Yu Kai Hsu for the procedure. Intake was typical for a medical practice but not any more burdensome. After I'd filled out all the forms, I was brought back for part #1 of the procedure a bit earlier than scheduled. X-rays were taken to locate the trouble spot with state-of-the-art x-ray equipment. A topical was applied to the area and novocaine injected at various points around the site. Typical pinch between my cheek and gum sensations. Dr. Hsu had to drill through my bridge due to the very tight fit. The procedure went smoothly and everything was cleaned out before I knew it. The followup proceeded just as smoothly as the first appointment. No surprises. Dr. Hsu and the staff were consummate professionals and I would not hesitate to recommend Th Virginia Endodontic Group. read more

This is not my first time at this office and it seems that the place is getting worse. The front desk people were unorganized and kept asking me questions of which they should have gotten the answer's from my referring dentist. Then after seeing Dr. Huang for 15 minutes only to be told that there was no need to do anything, I was asked to pay $108.00 for the service. I was outraged! Finally I was told that I needed to see my dentist today for additional work only to find out that information was wrong as well. So ended up hanging around for no reason. I will not be returning back to this place of disorganized staff. If this was ran by another ethnic group they would be deemed lazy and unprofessional people. I am sorry but the cost for their work is too expensive for the lack of service that I received. read more

First would like to say I was an emergency and they did accept me from a referral which is hard to do. thank you to both offices for coordinating this effort. Everything seemed to be great the reception was professional and patient and worked well with everyone that came in to the office even the Uber driver that brought in an elderly gentleman. I was then asked to go to the back by the dental assistant and her first course words were where is the pain. I tried to explain and she cut me off saying lower rear what side. I am not a dentist nor know the lingo so I just thought it was a bad day. In order to diagnose my issue they needed my x-rays so I was sitting in the chair and the assistant says I still don't have your x-rays and I have a 1:30 making me feel that I was truly inconveniencing everyone. Well it was 1:25 and I said what would you like me to do thinking she would say "lets get you back to the waiting room and wait for the x-rays" instead she looked at me as if I had three heads. I asked her to help me with the paper bib and I left. Hoping the Alexandria Office is better than this because I would never recommend this office. read more

My husband had a root canal started by his general dentist on a molar tooth and half way through, one of the three rotaries got broken near the bottom tip. His general dentist recommended that we go to a root canal specialist to get the little piece of broken rotary out and to complete the root canal procedure. There was an opening that same day and within the hour at Virginia Endodontics in Chantilly, VA. This clinic was recommended to us by my husband's general dentist office so we went straight to there within the hour to get the procedure completed. The reception office at the chantilly office was clean, pretty, and contemporary but the receptionist was candid and not too friendly. My husband went to the back to get the procedure done. The dentist, tall and slender (didn't get his name), tried to get the broken rotary out but couldn't and said he did a flush cleaning of all three canals, filled and sealed them. Took only 30 minutes and charged us for a full procedure of a root canal. I didn't think that was fair. My husband's general dentist did half of the work - numbing, drilling and insert of rotaries of the tooth. All this specialist dentist did was try to get the little piece of broken rotary out but could not then reclean the canals as if they were never clean then filled/sealed. My husband thought they would only charge him for a portion of the full root canal procedure but they charged him at a full procedure $931 after insurance paid for 25% of the cost- wish I make that much on 30 minutes. Again, I didnt think that was fair so I called the clinic and talked to the finance lady who then let me talk to the dentist who did the procedure on my husband. The same dentist claimed he did a full procedure of root canal, totally dismissed my reasoning with him. I am super disappointed with this clinic and that dentist whom I didn't catch the name. read more

After my dentist couldn't complete my root canal due to complications, they called TVEG to see if they could squeeze me in for an emergency appointment. Thankfully, they were able to see me!! From my first interaction w/ the young lady at the front desk to meeting Dr. Lee, everything was absolutely perfect!!! I can't speak highly enough of Dr. Lee!!!! He took the time to ask me what happened, he listened and gave me some real life experiences that I could relate to. His assistant was also very nice. Root canals can be scary, but while in Dr. Lee's hands my entire experience was painless. He even assured me I was doing well throughout the procedure and explained to me what he was doing while he was doing it. I left the office extremely happy that I'd been referred to him!! What impressed me more was that he called me later that evening to check on me & make sure I was I was ok. That really put a smile on my face!! I needed a root canal - had been putting it off for several months (years?) because of my fear of dentists. Dr. Ngo was amazing. Explained everything before we got started and continued to let me know what was going on as the root canal was being done. Front desk staff was great and appointments were very flexible. Did not have to sit very long in the wait time. Absolutely a *delightful experience* - and you don't hear that often about a root canal! I am a super wimp about pain and terrified of dental procedures, so I went into this nearly panicked. Dr. Huang is super gentle, efficient, and comforting to those of us with dental fears. Zero pain. Zero! Not even Tylenol needed afterward. Brushing my own teeth was more painful than a root canal. Very talented endodontist. The Chantilly front desk staff was very professional and accommodating since this was an emergency root canal - and fit me in that same day. Dr. Huang explained things and was very conscious of any pain I might be in. I asked for a tennis ball to squeeze- voila! The assistant got me a tennis ball. She was done before I could even worry! The second appt. to finish the root canal, I didn't even squeeze the tennis ball. I cannot recommend her *highly* enough. I would have another root canal with her before a dental cleaning with another dentist! Thank you for being so awesome and completely erasing my dental chair fears- you are the BEST! Far and above the best dental/medical experience I have ever had. read more
