It's everything that you'd expect from a bookstore - wood accents, endless shelves of books, zines, magazines, bookish souvenirs, and cute bookmarks. This bookstore often makes it to "must visit" CLE bookstores. Selection: Mac's has a wide range of literature from the timeless classics (think Jane Austen) to modern lit (think Emily Henry). There are three levels of books with genres ranging from romance to history. Each category is well organized and labeled. It's definitely the store to find eclectic reads on specialized topics. You'll also find new and used books, greeting cards, pretty journals, bookmarks, bookish totes, and other accessories at this store. You can order everything that you can't find at checkout. I historically purchased nature-inspired reads, and today Jane Austen's "Pride and Prejudice" for my book club. It was a gorgeous and compact version for $15. Who doesn't love a compact book that you can take everywhere? Service: Service is consistently very friendly. They always ask you if you found all your reads in a genuine manner. I really enjoy my interactions with everyone at Mac's - employees and readers. Events: This book store hosts very interesting book events for the community. Open air poetry readings, silent readings at nearby Phoenix Coffee, haikus and meditations, book clubs, and other gatherings are hosted here. Check out flyers at their store or their Facebook page. I previously visited their event with typewriter printed poems for Valentine's Day and had a ton of fun! Parking: City parking garage is available across the street (free parking). There is limited street parking. Availability of the latter really depends on the time of the day. I highly recommend visiting Mac's if you're in the mood to browse. This isn't your average used bookstore…read more I stopped by Paper Peddler's Out of Print Books to look around. It is a little hard to find, and the sign was a little faded which made it look like it might have closed - but don't let that deter you. They were stocked with all sorts of old books, magazines, papers, sheet music, and posters. Much of it seemed over 100 years old. I almost bought a book on craniofacial surgery from 1904. I looked at a Harper's magazine from the 1870's and Good Housekeepings from the 1930's. Prices were reasonable and the woman at the front of the store was very friendly.

Upon entering I was amazed at how few books were displayed! Most of the store was taken up by college swag on the first floor as well as on the second. About half of the second floor was devoted to textbooks, but was currently empty as the fall semester hadn't yet begun. I actually found a book that interested me, but the price was not what I wanted to pay. Will I return? Sadly I tend to doubt it. Its easier to browse books on Amazon.

The store is clean and well organized, but the prices left something to be desired. If you're looking for non-fiction, they have some pretty solid deals, with a lot of books priced around $5. But they price the second hand mass market paper backs that are a bit beat up at $4. Some had likely been through several owners. While that's a decent price for a book, for a paperback cozy mystery published over 20 years ago in some cases, the deals are less good. So I'd say good deals on used books here is a bit hit or miss

I called Comic Heaven before making the drive and asked how much a box of cards would cost. I was…read moretold $100 per box over the phone. After driving about 20 minutes to the store, the owner suddenly changed the price to $120 per box. When I mentioned that I had been quoted $100, I was told, "That's not my problem. The guy on the phone is new. It happens every day." If pricing mistakes like that really happen every day, it's hard to understand how the business continues to operate that way. Customers shouldn't be expected to waste time and gas because employees aren't given accurate pricing information. The experience was made worse by the rude attitude. During my phone call, the employee even told me what the store had paid for the boxes, and once I arrived, the owner gave a different explanation about the pricing. The whole interaction felt dishonest and unprofessional. On top of that, many of the cards and packs were already priced higher than other local stores and online retailers. Based on my experience, I won't be returning and can't recommend Comic Heaven to other collectors. Zero stars !
