I very much appreciated the excellent and thorough exam and education the Dr. does. I would offer two small changes to ensure better patient experience. There is NO sign or any direction when you walk in WHERE the front desk is, just a very tall counter area, and a narrow divider wall, where a desk is. So check-in could be in two places. A sign would help. I asked the girl who does NOT greet me at all "Is this the check in area?" NO answer...just asks for my name. Period. Then hands me the forms and says "fill these out" I have to find a pen on my own, and she sits back at her desk..no other communication, and there was no other customer needing attention or a phone ringing. I just waited out in the lobby and did not return the clipboard...she did come and get it and apologized, not sure why. Greeting ANY patient, new or not, and giving YOUR own name prevents awkwardness of the patient having to say "Hey You" to her...which I had to do. The Dr. does not give his name either, no lab coat or name tag. He COULD have been a tech or some pre-exam staffer who checks your glasses, etc. as is typical in MD offices. So in both cases friendly Introductions are better. Humboldt is too casual in just about any social or business interaction, mostly because staff are never trained in etiquette. Wearing an MD's white coat is not necessary, but clearly saying a 'difficult' name helps the patient not be stuck just saying "Doctor". read more

I had an appointment at 10:30 and wasn't seen until 11:40. I understand that he had multiple clients with emergencies but to have people wait for over an hour is crazy and the front desk staff was not updating anyone. I should've been told as soon as I got there that he was an hour behind but I was told it would be a "little bit of a wait" The doctor was amazing and so nice. After the appointment I had asked for my glasses to be tightened and she came out and told me that she broke my glasses and didn't have the color in stock. She could loan me a pair or tape up mine for 2 weeks while she ordered another. I settled for a different color. She said sorry but had a very rude tone. Love the doctor but wouldn't recommend this place. It's really unfortunate for Medi-Cal patients in the area. read more

Update I promised Debbie. She called me...She was just shown my review from March. Since I still had the pink glasses and never wore them she offered to change frames. She apologized for the way I was treated. That was nice of her but it shouldn't have happened in the first place. She gave me a new case too. read more

I will be honest. 1 star is generous, but since there is nothing less. I would also second the review that recommends the doctor but suggests getting glasses elsewhere. First thing anyone needs to know is that if you are a new patient there you they will only acknowledge you on the first day of the month. They tell you to call early but it took my over an hour and a half to get through so good luck. Booking the appointments for myself and family went fine and so did the exams with the doctor. My 1 start comes with picking out my glasses. The took me to a small room and stuck me with a girl to "help" me. I was trying to look around and she kept bringing me a bunch of frames that I did not like. I let her know that they aren't my style, and showed here a pair of my favorite glasses, thick plastic frames with no nose paddles and asked if they had anything like that. She kept bringing me the opposite of what I showed her, wire frames with the stupid paddles. I truly think I tried every pair of glasses in the room on. After I tried on at least 40 pairs of glasses, I looked at her and shrugged. Like, "Ok, what else?" and she just stared at me. So I took another pass at the room and found something that was adequate. I didn't like them and was waffling so she went and grabbed another technician to "help", they both convinced me that they looked great. I can not tell, I can not see shiz without my glasses. Three weeks and 460$ later my glasses finally came in. When I went to pick them up the took me into a different room and I was like, "Wait a minute. There are like 7 frames here I like better that what you all convinced me to pick out." The girl was like, Oh sorry. I was pretty upset and explained my experience and asked why I wasn't shown these other frames when I wasn't happy with the selection in my room. The lady again apologized. I just wanted to see clearly so badly I took my sucky frames and left. A week later I still hated the frames. Every time I looked in the mirror the first thought I have is, I hate these frames. I emailed the office and they arranged a time I could come in and we could talk. I went back and was told because my glasses are now considered "used" and due to COVID they could not exchange them, but they could offer me a good discount on a new pair!! I notified them I would not be spending another cent in their building. And COVID really, what a cop-out excuse. I know that girl did not sanitize all of the glasses I touched when I was trying on, spray some sanitizer on them and send them back, right? So to recap, they are disorganized, over priced, and will lie to your face about the glasses you choose to purchase. Not sure if it is a commission thing or if they just want you to move along so they can get the next sucker. I can only hope that someone reads this and chooses to visit another place to purchase their glasses. I have worn glasses for over 30 years and this is the first time that when I look at my face in the mirror all I can think is, "I hate my glasses!" THIS OFFICE IS AMAZING!!!!!!! They were very covid safe and caring! Unfortunately since this is the only office in like 3 or more counties that take partnership insurance, getting my child in as a new patient took a bit of work since they only open up their new patients on the 1st of each month but it was well worth the wait. I was told they take over 100 new patients per month which is amazing since everyone else kicked Medi-cal/partnership patients out! They really care about everyone, rich or poor they will help you see. Other offices that use to take medi-cal new patients only took the first 10 callers a month (ridiculous!). My insurance will only allow the very basics on my glasses which sucks since few years ago they allowed me to upgrade my pair but I got a notice in Jan 2020 that they no longer would....Fingers crossed the insurance changes back soon. I ended up getting 2 pairs, the ones for free from my insurance and a second pair that had all the fancy things i wanted. The girl at the front desk with dreads was extremely rude and unhelpful but thank god it looks like she is gone because when i came in to pick up my glasses they were training a very sweet new girl. Everyone else i worked with: the Dr (whose exam was so extensive and explained everything so i understood ), the 2 opticians Hannah and Maria (Maria was training and did fantastic and asked Hanna come in to double check everything was correct before finalizing with me)...Maria also worked with my daughter and got down to her level to help her and was very kid friendly and kind.... and then Debbie who dispensed the glasses (she answered all my questions and adjusted my progressives to a T which i was new to wearing). I will definitely be back and highly recommend them to everyone i know! read more

This place is a mess. Lots of people in waiting room. When they say your first appointment is at 2:00, they actually mean 2:30. They give you 30 minutes to fill out 5 minutes of paperwork. Which they did not tell me on the phone. So after 45 minutes of waiting I left. Disrespectful of people's time. read more

Sooo I waited too months for my appointment. I was excited to finally get in. I was not expecting to be so disrespected and abused!I had a truly horrible experience at the hands of Debby. She was an absolutely rude demeaning person. I was there to get a pair of glasses. She told me I could not get progressives added to the pair I was allowed by my insurance. Funny I had verified that I could before going.My insurance said I could! She told me I could only get bifocals. As a solution I should get two pair! She then told me I would not get my glasses for at least three months. She showed me the rules then quickly took them back. She claimed she was not supposed to show me that they were for Doctors eyes only! She then said I could get a pair faster if I bought them out of pocket. When she totaled the cost it was as over $400.00 for a single pair! When I explained that was not in my budget. she told me she had spent too much time with me and agin said I should choose two pair one that my insurance covered and one I pay for myself. She said her company needed to make money and my insurance did not pay them enough. I was dumbfounded! The glasses you pick from are just outdated cheep and ugly! I chose a pair for my insurance to get and left feeling abused! Debby you are an ugly mean rude person! You should not have a job working with people! The doctor here is great & thorough with his work but this place is absolutely filthy! Receptionists are rude & unprofessional. Having personal conversations, using cuss words loudly & talking badly about other coworkers. Come 30 minutes after your scheduled time because you will wait atleast a half an hour. read more

The Dr. at this office is amazing! He has a wonderful bedside manner and he knows his stuff! He is quick and to the point. My entire family goes to this office. we love the staff, the selection of glasses, the expertise of the staff, and the welcoming atmosphere they have. read more

I was forced to change doctors when I got Medi-cal. My previous eye doctor wouldn't accept it, so I decided to go to the vision center. I am so glad I did! I was being charged $50 per box of contacts at the previous place, and here I am only paying $20 - 25 a box! The doctor also waived a $25 fee for my first visit. Everyone was super friendly, and I felt like the doctor actually cared. He switched the power for my contacts, and then had me put them in and checked that I could still see okay with them. I've never had a doctor take the time to do that before. I've only been once so far, but I highly recommend it. PS. It's not the fanciest place in the world - but don't be turned away until you stick to your appointment! read more

This office is AMAZING! they always go out of their way to help in any way they can. The Dr. is wonderful and very friendly. Their frame selection is huge and super well priced. The staff was so great and cheerful even though they were obviously super busy! I ended up getting two pairs because it was so hard to just pick one...they were all so great. Debbie really knows her stuff, I was looking at frames that were beautiful but way too big for my face so i couldn't find something i loved, Debbie swooped in and had me try some that i wouldn't usually pick and WOW they are great! Like i said i ended up getting 2 different pairs because i loved them so much! I will definitely be going back and have already set appointments up for the rest of my family! read more

I was pleased with the service I received until I went to pick up my glasses. I was undercharged and when I told both the receptionist and the doctor that I had been reimbursed for the whole balance by my insurance they insisted that it was otherwise. Fast forward 8 months later and they are threatening to send me to collections for the bill I tried to pay them. read more

I had a terrible experience with them over the course of several months. It took 8x longer than they promised to get the glasses. Each time over the phone, they would say the glasses were done, then the next time they would say they had not started yet. I not pleased with the runaround and lack of care. They misquoted me the price and asked me to pay more after waiting several weeks. After I received the glasses, they said I was 100% paid off. Now, after six months, they have sent a bill for $100.00!! Unbelievable. They have a fantastic selection of glasses, and are very friendly, but they do not have their act together! read more
