The BEST!!! I needed some vitamins, saw them online then searched for local stores that carried the particular brand--SHOP LOCAL--and this gem of a spot popped up. I went for a run and ended it here only to be blown away by the owner's customer service, wealth of knowledge, fantastic business acumen, and plethora of stock. It's a small shop, but boy oh boy, do they have everything you need. The owner is a lovely man who knows every single thing about every single item in his shop. He steered me towards the best quality products, and steered me towards deals between two brands that had the same quality product (the more expensive one was the one I came in for and I'm thrilled he told me to buy the cheaper one--same quality just slightly cheaper--because he could've just let me buy the pricier one!). It is not an overstatement to say that David is as knowledgeable about nutrition and related medical science as any "professional" nutritionist anyone has ever seen or known. He knows more about human nutrition, digestion, even brain and CNS function than most doctors. He has been "advising" me through a very perilous time in my life. The proprietor of this lovely, small store is every bit as nice and, more importantly, knowledgeable as every review seems to agree. He's also--unbelievably refreshingly, as compared to all the mega-chains and franchised purveyors of vitamins, especially--utterly frank, by which I mean BS-free. (Multivitamins basically come in two types, with and without iron... Stuff like that.) I would, in fact, give him five stars, except knowledge and experience cost, and his wares aren't inexpensive. This guy is awesome. I came in for some B12 and D vitamins (most people are lacking those in their diet, and low levels could cause irreversible neurological disorders), and I figured a stop through would be just as confusing as when I peruse the aisles of Whole Foods. You see labels upon labels and just take a guess as to which is the superior product. But here, you're greeted by a super nice fellow who takes the time to help you find what's best for your needs, tells you how the vitamins are supposed to work in your body, suggests things to eat to ensure you absorbs the vitamins properly, etc... I suppose if you're in the vitamin business you're expected to have a pretty vast knowledge of your area of expertise, but I was still quite impressed. It's a bit of a trek if you live anywhere except Upper West Side, but it's worth stopping by if you find yourself in the area. read more

Try to go when the owner is there unoccupied. He is absolutely brilliant and is deeply knowledgable about the benefits and interactions of the products. After explaining what I was experiencing, he suggested I go to the grocery store and buy seaweed for my issue. He explained how to cook it, how to take it and for how long. Did not even suggest for me to buy vitamins he sells. I did go back to purchase some other items to show support. Anyway, a few months later, my issue is completely gone thanks to the seaweed Rx. I would have missed this tiny shop if it weren't for yelp. The outside, as my friend says, is so plain it she thought it was a bodega. But the guy inside is another story. He is totally sweet and takes time to explain everything he knows about whatever question you may have. I just started taking calcium pills and he was telling me how certain ones interact with other brands' magnesium etc etc. Prices are very fair. I called 10 different places in the city looking for a homeopathic remedy and this was the only place that had it in stock. The store is tiny, but the staff is very friendly and I was in an out in two seconds. They told me that if you call and ask for something before 2pm they can often get it delivered by the next day.
