As my side hustle/passion project, I've been on a search to find the best grocery store rotisserie chicken in the world. Fairway is the current #1, and it's not even close. It's my 2018 LeBron. My Wayne Gretzky. My George Washington. All this to say, my parents were on town for the weekend and we walked by this Fairway on the way to Central park, and they have a sign outside that says "Best Tissi in NYC according to @jnov_" which is kind of crazy, but I try not to get to high or to low. You can't ride the roller coaster, it will destroy you. I try to just work hard, control everything I can control, and let the chips fall where they may. My parents, on the other hand, were JUICED. They made me take a picture with the sign, and when we walked inside to find the birds, they were giddy as another sign was there with the rack of rotisserie chickens completely empty. They started telling the employees that that's me and I'm the "Tissi guy," and I got really shy and embarrassed as I'm introverted by nature. But at the same time, it does give me a warm and fuzzy feeling to have my parents be genuinely proud of me. There really is nothing like it. Shoutout to Steve and Nanc. As a native Upper West Sider Fairway has my allegiance although I've moved away. Tuesday 5 PM I popped in for rotisserie chicken with the fixins to bring over to my daughter's -- got on the snaky self serve line, which moved quickly and got out of there in 15 minutes. Prices are fair, quality is excellent, but customer service could be a bit more accommodating. Also had to buy a shopping bag -- 33-cents seemed a bit steep, but I will treasure it!! read more

I miss Fairway Market. I'm so glad one is left. The Olive bar is amazing as well as the selection of olive oil, sauces, coffee.... Sat upstairs in the café and enjoyed an iced coffee overlooking Broadway. The upstairs has been reconfigured with it in organic shop, kosher shop and vitamins. read more

They have everything you need. I would have given them a 5 rating, but I had to have my purchases delivered (too heavy for me to carry). They told me it would take between 1-2 hours. I had an appointment in 3 hours that was fine. Didn't come. Called to check. Said on way. Came as I was walking out the door. My most recent experience at Fairway was ok. I was able to purchase all of the vegetables that I wanted, all of the fruit that I wanted, and even the fish that I wanted. They have great deals on chopped red onions, cucumbers, tomatoes, sprouts, and shishito peppers. The bagged apples are the best because you scan them and don't have to weigh them. I was also happy that I was able to pick out the octopus salad and a nice package of smoked salmon. I even found a Barbie-themed soda that I purchased in four cans. The only thing that I didn't like about my experience was that the woman who was helping me out at the register had been short and rude to me. She didn't have any patience for my questions and when I wanted to take one thing out of my cart she huffed at me. Overall the products that I was able to purchase were really good, and I enjoy going to Fairway, but I wish the employees could be a little nicer there. read more

Fairway appears to be getting less customer friendly.... Once upon a time, they offered $10 off $50 in purchases, then Fairway was sold to a corporate entity, and the deal went to $10 off $200 and this month, they announced $5 off $150 in purchases...but these have to all take place within a 28 day window. One would think that the competition with Trader Joe's, only 2 blocks away, would have them considering competitive pricing and deals. That does not appear to be the operating wisdom. Fairway does, of course, have many many things TJs does not, and the customer service desk is always friendly, responsive and helpful. So caveat emptor. read more

The service still sucks, especially at the check-out area, where the assistance is surly and the self-check-out terminals break down often enough to make you want to just walk out, which I did earlier today, having wasted my time trying buy two lousy items, and some more time while one of their own employees was no more successful at ringing me out. I have been shopping at this store for 20 years. Today as I rang up my groceries in the self-checkout, an attending clerk decided to micromanage how I organized my groceries, ultimately calling someone over to "help me" and he began rifling through my bags. As I stood there and watched him investigate, I finally said "What are you doing?" He said "She thinks you might have been overcharged for something." I told him I was capable of checking out myself and he continued. I asked him to void the sale, went down to Whole Foods and bought everything on my list (including an item Fairway didn't have.) The Fairway total: $77. Whole Foods: $51. Even paying for the subway back and forth, I saved $20. Looking on the bright side, this annoyance taught me a valuable lesson. Goodbye, Fairway. read more

I would lie if I didn't say I do 95% of my shopping in Jersey at the biggest box store of them all; BUT Fairway is a regular haunt for me for sale fruit. their price points aren't low, but neither is the quality of their stuff. I stock up on whatever is on sale that I like and am never disappointed with quality. also, every person working there has been very friendly and helpful. read more

I can't believe I haven't reviewed Fairway on the West Side. I lived two doors behind this location for years. You have a combination of a grocery store and a Whole Foods type store all in one location. I used to bring a huge bag and stock up on items. I find the isles are easy to navigate, the stock and floor help are friendly and knowledgeable. They have all of the popular brands, plus the bakery, fish, meats, and dairy department. All have fresh food and knowledgeable employees. They have both regular and organic foods. They have a great selection of spices. They have both less expensive items or high end gourmet. Take your choice. I've never had a problem with check out. They have a system and it works. For the most part cashiers are friendly. I don't buy large quantities at this location. For check out you do need to expect a long line if you go at peak times of day. I remember when this was the only Fairway I knew existed. Now I have a huge Fairway on East 86th Street. East Side or West Side I love Fairway all the same! read more

What has happened to my former favorite grocery store on the upper west side ? The choices seem less but still plentiful and the prices seem higher !! What no fresh rye bread for slicing ? stood at the deli counter for 5 minutes without service until the employees finished their conversation !! the customer service and friendliness are lacking and noticeably different to the former pleasant employee service that I was used to and enjoyed prior to the Shop Rite takeover. I know shop rite controls New Jersey markets and actually are quite good stores but either the manager of Fairway Broadway and 74th Is lacking in leadership or the ability to stress to employees that a smile, a concern in helping customers should be their upmost responsibility. I decided to return the items and instead was charged again for my items by customer service. It is quite apparent that the employees here have contempt for the customers here. I have never been to this site it was real treat considering the set of circumstances that we are all going through with coronavirus in New York City moving into phase 2. I had to be in this area because my friend needed bloodwork up in a specific lab in the area so during my waiting time I went about doing the best I could do. I needed some produce for my household so I Purchased some which all look beautiful. I purchased Huge Italian tomatoes, white cherries, Haitian mangos. And avocados.... the price was not bad all about $35 bucks. Fairway without a doubt were following guidelines for COVID-19, the store was being sanitized as it seemed on a regular basis, and customers and people working following social distancing. I like to complement the staff at this branch they really were working very hard and when I checked out the cashier said thank you with a big smile lovely. Walking around, we decided to drop by Fairway Market. Every corner is packed with fruits, veggies, snacks, condiments, meats, cheeses, bread, etc. It gets really busy in here. They have a nice organic section. Plenty of variety in here. Prices are reasonable at Fairway, definitely cheaper than the grocery stores I used to go to near my apt (when I lived here years ago). If you haven't had a history with Fairway, you won't understand how downhill they've gone. It's been my go to store for 20 years but that's quickly changing. Yes, there is still a good selection. however, prepped foods are just ok because it's all been outsourced. The store is dirty and the employees are mostly "calling it in". If there is any management, it is haphazard and has no interest (or knowledge) in maintaining the level of quality the biz upheld before it was sold. I have what can only be described as a serious love-hate relationship with the UWS Fairway. Torn. I don't want it to go out of business and be sold off by people who have absolutely no idea how to run grocery stores in today's age of Fresh Direct and InstaCart and expanded the chain without thought and care. But I also have to gird myself each time before stepping foot inside. Shopping here is by no means a relaxing experience, particularly any time before a snowstorm or during the holiday rush. On the one hand, I need this place for its relatively affordable meat and seafood offerings. Trader Joe's has a pretty meager selection and Citarella, while beautiful, bountiful, and empty, is way out of my price range. Whole Foods is similarly prohibitive from a price point of view. I'm also a fan of their weekly coupons even though let's be real, I'm not lugging a 24-pack of Poland Spring water bottles back to my apartment. Plus let's offer something better for the environment. On the other, I have yet to come here where it's not a fire hazard from the sheer amount of people packed into this place. I don't know whether it's an issue of layout or just the popularity but I do know the lines for check-out always get backed up. They should think about setting up a self checkout so that for the people who buy less than 5 items (yours truly), a grocery run doesn't need to have an extra 15 minutes tacked on. Also, the cashiers can be borderline abrupt and rude. You definitely feel like cattle being herded about. The butcher counter is also hit or miss, depending on any given day. I heard they opened a cooking space on the second floor. Yay ... except for that space could have been used for a few of the items on the first floor which would have opened up a lot of the tight corners and made it a more pleasant place. It's definitely a 2.5 but I'm rounding up because of the meat/seafood. read more

The only place to get groceries on the upper West side! Fareway has reasonable prices, and still some personalized service so that you can get exactly what you need without having to buy it already prepackaged. One of the services I especially appreciate is the person back in the coffee area who will grind any beans you want into any grind you want. What a nice touch! read more

Fairway Market is one of the few places that sells vegetarian Tandoor chef frozen meals. I cannot find it at Whole Foods lately - either sold out or they stopped carrying it. So I switched to Fairway Market. I've been pleasantly surprised by the quality at Fairway! They usually have organic fruits & vegetables in stock. The organic Italian parsley & cute rainbow chocolate nonpareils are five stars ! The prices are competitive and I find myself spending less here. Compared to Citarella, it's a bargain. Oh, how we loved the Fairway Market. I'm writing this as a visitor, not a resident, so my view of the market may be different than that of someone who lives in the area and shops there regularly. We were staying nearby and stopped at Fairway every day for something: fruit and snack to take back to our hotel, drinks. We spent some time walking around, checking things out, and the variety of offerings is quite impressive. Prices seemed a bit high but I don't have another NY grocery to compare them to so maybe they are in line with other outlets. The hours were convenient for our comings and goings, the check outs were quick. Overall, a great neighborhood market. read more

Lost delivery NO CUSTOMER SERVICE. I bought groceries before three in the afternoon. Got a call at 6 saying it was out for delivery. When it didn't show up by 8 I called and was told I could have it at 10 AM the next morning. I had to take a $25 cab ride to pick it up and then replace the perishable items that had been sitting unrefrigerated for over 5 hours. One item was not available and they charged me extra for a more expensive version. I have used Fairway for years but they lost me as a customer today. Horrible treatment. read more

The market has a great selection of products. But overall it's an ugly old school market with no charm to it. They could make it so much nicer but its a run down space. Also the self-checkout can be a pain to deal with. I am sure they are saving in labor costs buts it become more of a hassle to checkout and they must be losing some money with people not scanning their items. The Fairway Cafe upstairs was a great cafe with excellent food and reasonable prices. Would love if they re-opened it. read more

We ordered 3 dishes from catering. Alll came as though they had been in the refrigerator overnight with the exception of one. The mac and cheese was just short of frozen and looked about a week old. Fortunately, we had enough time to heat the food before our guests arrived thus the one star for on time delivery. Won't be ordering Fairway catering again. read more

It's November 2022 & I went to the Fairway at 74th & Broadway, with a friend who loves luxury, after many years. Their prices are shocking, Yes, I know prices are inflation & pandemic-related as well as having alleged supply chain issues. But Fairway has a new owner & they are now a luxury food mart & are behaving like one. They stock every food item possible (as long as they are high-priced.) It used to be a price- & shopper-friendly Upper West Side establishment. Now, it's gone corporate. It's become nothing more than being like the old Whole Foods v.2. It may stay in business but I say, "Take the Fair out of Fairway." I'll never go back there. Never. read more
