Food is always good, service is great. No better place in town to get fried chicken. Good variety of beer as well.

The food was served hot and delicious. The staff had energy and was always busy clearing plates, busing tables, and taking orders. A very excellent menu. My friend had the prime pork chop which was cooked to perfection. Our salads were served cold and crisp. I had the 1/4 burger which was prepared fresh. Also the Decatur BigBand played for our entertainment. The manager was there and watched over the dining room. Everything was clean and a lovely place. Can't wait to return. read more

We went to The Wagon while visiting Decatur, IL. The fried mushrooms were excellent! They were made with thinly sliced mushrooms in a light batter. They were not at all greasy, and very tasty. I had the smothered chicken without the cheese, with Cole slaw and green beans. It was a generous portion of chicken breast with sautéed green & red peppers and onions. I added a little Buffalo sauce to give it a bit more bite (because I like spicy). The green beans were great with bacon and onion. Others in my party had fried chicken, which they said was very good - crunchy and not greasy. Another had the tenderloin which was thick and juicy. Our server was good. I have been here before. It was OK. The frozen veggies were still frozen when they were served to me. The fried chicken was. ok. Nothing special. I had prime rib tonight. Thin cut. Very tough. It was like eating shoe leather. Even though I asked for medium rare. My second time there. My second time disappointed. I wont go back. My steak had a whip mark where the jockey hit it. Very poor food. EVERYTHING is frozen, nothing fresh prepared. Why do people go back to this food. FROZEN FOOD? I will not go back. Tried the prime rib. chewy. tough. Very dry. Parking lot was pretty full when we got here and I thought that was a good sign. Once inside, we had about a 20 minute wait which was fine, we were not in a rush. Short staffed, which seems to be the norm pretty much nowadays and everyone was working their butts off you could see that. Had a monster sized appetizer that could've fed the both of us for dinner, wasn't expecting the thing to be that large. All fried items, mushrooms, cheese sticks, onion rings and potatoes. Taste wise it was mediocre, nothing really stood out to make us want to come back for. Always have heard about Flash's fried chicken so that's what we had. I'd have to rate it on the lower end of the scale, it WAS fried and done. Again, flavor was lacking so I don't know what all the fuss is about because it's really not that good. Service was fantastic so we did enjoy that, just wish the meal would have been on par with it. Won't be returning, which is sad because this town used to be full of great eateries. Going out to eat isn't cheap anymore and when you do go out, you expect things a certain way, the wagon missed the mark for us. Yes, it's true. It's the best fried chicken in town. We arrived at the Wagon last Thursday night with 12 guests and they worked hard to seat us as quickly as possible in a full restaurant. Our waiter was top notch and tip worthy. I'm looking forward to another visit soon! read more

The food is great, but they have a half dozen televisions around the joint and they're all generally on sports channels. When I'm eating, I don't want to look up and see a bunch of big, sweaty men chasing a ball or each other and putting their big, sweaty hands all over each other. It's disgusting! Also, the owner's taste in music is horrible and should be turned down to a reasonable volume so that those of us with sensitive hearing can concentrate on the awesome food and not have some stupid song being shoved in out ears at headache inducing levels! I recommend the fried chicken, the walleye sandwich and any soup on the menu but if you're a heterosexual man with good taste in music, get it for take out because the atmosphere here is like eating in a penal colony, although the waitresses are all gorgeous! read more

I am planning a reception for the end of June, it's currently the end of February, for 25 people. My fiancé's deployment date was changed, so it's a bit of short notice, which was explained to the staff. I Google searched "caterers in Decatur" and the first one to pop up was "The Wagon". We are stationed in Hawaii, also explained this to the staff, and said I wanted to order a few trays of food (buffet style). I asked for a menu to be emailed. I was told, by a kind gentleman, that Jack would get back to me. He was busy at the time. A few days later I emailed on the site inquiring the same thing. A few days after that I called to see if perhaps they forgot about me... the VERY rude woman I spoke to told me they had my name and they'd get back to me. I politely explained that I wanted to give enough notice if I had to go with someone else is all... the following day I had a missed call at 6:00 am (my time) so I called back when I woke up 2 hours later. I explained I had a missed call from them and it was in regards to ordering food. I was rudely handed over, by the previously kind gentleman, to the woman I'd spoken with the night before and she ANGRILY explained (demeaningly) "since you want to have enough time for someone else we're sorry, but have to decline your business. We won't be up and running by then for catering". I didn't want a "catered" event... had someone listened and/or asked what I wanted they would've understood it was just to order a few trays of food... which is an option, is it not? I'm happy that we won't be giving business to people that are awful to customers. I wanted to shop local because my fiancé's family is from a small town near by... this is not how either of us expected to be treated. Went there for lunch today. Only two servers running there asses off. Had the cheeseburger, that had some kind of nasty seasoning on it. French fries were good. Waitress was nice. Two stars only. 1/30/19. I don't want to see small businesses fail. But if flash doesn't wake up real quick and stop trying to rely on old customers and greasy fried chicken and fish, he's not going to make it. Frequented this restaurant for years while it was on Jasper and the fried chicken was so good it would blow your mind. I have frequented this restaurant for over 20 years; however, i got chicken for three people and it was just swimming in grease. Flash knows better than that. If you order the chicken and it's swimming in grease, send it back. If you really want good fried chicken go to Kroger. read more

The food was excellent, service needs some work though, and food management needs improvement. We waited almost an hour before we got out food, it was nice and fresh though. We weren't checked on to see if we were ok or an estimation on how long it would be to get our food. Went to dinner looking for a good horseshoe in Decatur. Don't bother ordering the shoe, cheese sauce is terrible and I'd almost bet the hamburger was a frozen patty. Ordered a grilled chicken salad that arrived in such a dirty bowl, I was grossed out immediately. I started eating because it was the first opportunity I had all day to eat and I was starving! I was choking it down and ran across remnants of egg yolk, and the salad contained no eggs! Waitress didn't bother checking in until after my husband was finished and when I told her, she tried to tell me that they use a bacon, egg & cheese mixture in their salads. There was no bacon in the "salad" and the cheese was isolated to the chicken only. What I got was slop served in a dirty bowl. My daughter ordered chicken strips off the children's menu which were SO over fried that the meat actually was splintered and they were inedible. The icing on the cake was the rude manner in which we received the check. It was adjusted (thank you) but was also tossed on the table without so much as a kiss my ass, thank you, sorry - nothing.
