That was a treat! After MANY attempts (often derailed by my own schedule) finally made it to…read moreDowntown for dinner. As luck would have it, it was Binghamton Restaurant Week and we attempted a walk in - first available was three+ hours later - but the hostess mentioned we could get the RW menu at the bar and two seats were calling. Lots of choices on the menu but friend and I ended up having the same meal! Cup of Cauliflower, potato and leek soup to start was yummy - very comforting, not too thick, good flavor - I could have stopped here! But fortunately did not! Main was spectacular! Salmon with everything bagel spices served over pearl couscous in a risotto style was inspired (honestly, I will try this at home)! I hope this is a menu regular because I will crave this for many more meals! Add a black Manhattan and this meal is a treat! (Took the dessert course to go - blueberry cronuts were better than chocolate but both likely suffered a wee bit from loss of ambiance and slight steaming that occurred on drive - good for sure but did not compare to the rest of the meal). Shout out to Tommy F for exceptional service - attentive but not intrusive. Ambiance is lovely (the lighting dimmed as we sat - hysterical) but we also scored the most comfortable seats in the house (I hate a high top stool with no back and no padding on the seat - those stools look nice but should go away). Also love the hook under the bar.

This is a difficult review to properly balance. We'd seen the rooftop restaurant from my son's new…read morecollege apartment and went for dinner. After reading the sign indicating we need to see the host inside, we went. It was packed and looked modern chic, with low lights and high tables and tall chairs. We didn't have reservations and got the sorry, but we're full, to which I said we wanted to eat upstairs. To that, we got "okay" but that is a "different experience," which I frankly took as pretension... until I got upstairs. Then we understood. It was mostly empty on this Saturday evening, opposite the main restaurant below, and had a single person working the whole space, a Bar tender who explained we were to pull up the menu with a QRC, order, and they would bring the food; if we wanted drinks, we needed to come to the bar. Ordered food. Went to bar and waited. Good local craft beer on tap. Decent view, pleasant weather. And then a half hour passed. For sandwiches and tacos. Few minutes later, I went in to make sure our order was sent and that the kitchen actually received it. There was no animated chef in toque at a stove to indicate it was working, but she assured me it was. Another 15 minutes go by, and our beers are low, and we're considering.... Leaving or raising a stink when the bartender leaves her bar, looks at us, and goes down the stairs without a word, returning a few minutes later with nothing. That was odd, but seemed like progress. A few minutes later, our food arrives. Perhaps 50-60 minutes after ordering it. The runner tells us the manager apologies for the wait and has comped all our food. Without our having to say a word. We ate a fine arugula salad with watermelon, blueberries, and cheese. A good chicken sandwich with the most unusual Parmesan parsley fries--they were more thick chips, fried into curls, and topped with fried parsley and grated Parmesan. If you order it on the side, it comes with aioli, which was excellent. My burger was outstanding. I could taste the smoke, and it came with not slices, but small cubes of bacon. No need for sauce. My wife's shrimp tacos were very good eating. Frankly, it was so good, I *might* have forgiven them the wait. They did right to acknowledge their mistake. When we visit Binghampton again, we'll make reservations for the main dining room, which we were told has a much larger menu. We paid our bar tab via their Toast app. So yes, table service, but no waitron. It was a different experience, true to the host's word.

Crowbar is officially the best hangout space in Binghamton right now!…read more Nestled in a nook between State St. and Washington St., when you walk in the first thing you see is their incredible display of old LCD TVs circling the bar area, which really sets the tone for the vintage gaming aesthetic. Everything about this place is on-theme, right down to the items on the menu. While the food is definitely bar fare, don't underestimate it; every single one of their offerings is crafted to perfection! My favorites include the Sauer Loser hotdog (mouth-watering combo of sauerkraut and mustard on all beef franks) and the Flamin' Hot Smothered Cheetos (an elevated take on the spicy snack)! As for drinks, they have a fun array of game-themed cocktails and mocktails. Yes, you heard right, mocktails! And they are all incredible. My favorite is the Wowza Bowzer mocktail, which has a little bit of a kick with habanero bitters. The Waka-Waka-Waka cocktail (mule) features a Pac-Man shaped lemon slice eating a cherry, which is a fun touch! But, as we know, we come for the food and stay for the games, so what's available? Well, they have over 30 vintage games ranging from arcade classics like PacMan and Mortal Combat to more interactive favorites like DDR, hoops, and racing games (check out their website for a full listing). Plus, a couple pool tables and a few chill spots in the 2-story location (which includes a few quiet nooks with seating between the floors). While this space is definitely kid-friendly, it is only open to 21+ after 9pm, which provides a great experience for families and night crawlers alike!

The grilled pizza crust was absolutely amazing--perfectly cooked with a great flavor profile that really stood out. The pepperoni pizza was also excellent, with seasoning mixed right into the cheese that took an already great pizza to the next level. We also ordered the arancini balls with marinara sauce, and they were delicious. Crispy, perfectly fried, and paired with a flavorful marinara. Everything arrived tasting fresh and delicious. First, we ordered an appetizer and when the girl bought it out she only had two plates (there were three of us), and she says "sorry, we only have two plates." Then my wife ordered a steak and when the girl brought it out she apologized and said they didn't have any steak knives. So, my wife was supposed to cut her steak with a butter knife. The girl who brought the food to the table was not the same person who took our order. Then I see our waitress and I said that I don't understand how you don't have steak knives and she said oh we do have steak knives I'll bring you one right out. However, she brought out a small pairing knife. Gordon Ramsey would have a field day with this place. Then my son and I both ordered steak sandwiches. He ordered his medium and I ordered mine medium well. So I asked the server how do we know which one is the medium and which one is the medium well she then proceeds to tell me well when you bite into them, you'll know which one is more rare and that would be the medium one. Really?! Needless to say, they just tasted gross and the steak was full of fat. When my wife was done with her steak that she cut with a pairing knife I noticed she didn't need her potatoes or vegetables and I said what was wrong with the potatoes and vegetables and she said to me that they too were gross. The last time we were here we brought my son's roommates and their girlfriends so I think there was eight of us at the time we all had a wonderful time and really enjoyed the place. I don't know what has happened in the past year. We will never be back. The place used to pack a crowd, tonight it was empty.
