I have a long history with this building and it's previous owner, who is respectfully memorialized with a mural (RIP Hack). Used to be called The Pine Lounge. People who used to go to it now own it, so while the name has changed and some required changes have taken place (RIP the old record jukebox!) it spiritually feels like the same friendly place, with a new outdoors and a great local vibe. Not exactly for BU students, but not exactly NOT, either. They don't mind much who comes in as long as you're respectful. Buy a shirt. Make it your local spot if you live nearby, or if you want to escape the chaos of downtown. The pizzeria next door is actually pretty good too. Enjoy. read more

A nice little locals bar/pub with a good selection of beer, on tap, in bottles or cans and a well stocked bar. This renovated house holds the pub and a pizzarria that share a common back area outside where people can smoke cigarettes, cigars and occasionally other substances. The back was filled with college students and locals. Some a bit more jolly on chemical induced happiness. A group of student aged kids were listening to a kid with a guitar try to sing, but they were mostly enjoying the conversations that occupy minds of similar aged people. Inside was a clean area with tables and the bar. A great digital jukebox that will eat your bills faster than you can drink your well priced beverages. I had a draft Yeungling for $3 and double Tito's and soda for $7. Long pours, friendly staff and an enjoyable crowd. 3 different television monitors in case you wanted to follow the ladies US Football (Soccer) squad grab a nice World Cup qualifier round against the lady Kiwis. I love dive bars, but what I love even more is a dive-y neighborhood pub where you walk in and are immediately welcomed. As soon as they found out I was a transplant from the west coast, one of the patrons ushered me around the pub to introduce me to the regulars and locals. It might be overwhelming and odd to some people, but I thought it was great. I'm new to this area and if everyone is this friendly I might stay forever! The drink price was right too... yes, you can get wings and 3 dollar yings at the Colonial on Thursdays. But you can get 2 dollar yings at Abels EVERYDAY. TWO DOLLAR YINGS. Sign me up. This west coast chick loves me some of this east coast brewski. Yingling! Yingling! Chant with me. Now come with me to Abel's and grab a cold one. :) A nice bonus is Pizza Nia's next door. Delicious NY style pizza. Go. Go now. Pizza and beer. How can you go wrong? They have an outdoor patio, which I have not experienced personally. I can't even tell you what's back there. This place is "divey" without being divey... It's local, clean and cool by being uncool. Everyone says hello and welcomes you even if they don't know you. I was told this used to be a hipster bar.. It's more of a regular local hangout now. Named after Abel Bennett, a prominent man in early Binghamton history and landowner of a large tract of land, including where this now sits, it's cool to me it retains its history even if that is lost on virtually every other patron. The outback area, which is fenced in but literally in the middle of a quiet neighborhood, is just as big as the interior. Usually busy and not much room around the bar make it awkward to get a drink sometimes but the prices are decent and the waitresses are nice. Despite the positives it is lacking something.. the appeal to go there just doesn't exist to me.. idk what it is. Nice place but not for me. read more

The old Pine Lounge! This is a great local watering hole. Even people I've spoken to from out of town seem to have a good time here. The inside is completely redone. It has a nice friendly atmosphere and is generally laid back depending on the crowd. The bartenders are attentive and never make you wait too long to get a drink. They only accept cash however- but there is an ATM. They also have a back patio behind the bar for smokers which is pretty nice. They do not have a full kitchen but they usually have something different every night to tide you over and its always cheap (under $3)! read more

Abel's is your typical corner bar. Small inside but has a huge patio, some of which is covered- good for smokers since it's often raining here. I've always had good service there despite it being very crowded. Nice, local feel with lots of regulars. Cash only, low prices, minimal beer selection for those who like micro or imported beers. I wouldn't choose Abel's out of all the bars in Bing, but my friends go there regularly, so so do I. Sometimes they have good bands. read more

Nice local corner bar. Nothing fancy but the drink prices were decent if you just want a non-pretentious place to hang out and enjoy a beverage. The bartender that was there when we went was really nice. She was easy to talk to and waited on us without issue--we watched the World Series game and also played some music on the juke box. The pizza place next door will also deliver food to you in the bar if you go over and order--my friend got a chicken cheesesteak which smelled and looked pretty good. Will be back again. read more

this review is more directed toward the bartender and not the bar or its patrons. As I entered I asked if they take card and the bartender rudely states they don't take cards and proceeds to mock me with one of the gentlemen at the bar saying something to the tune of "cash whats cash". Ok... I'm a big boy I go to the ATM and pay for my beer. From that point I have a good time playing music and interacting with the people there. I then go get another beer and pay only for the beer (no tip yet I tend to tip at the end of the night especially if the bartender is being a ass I will not reward that) go back to having fun. Someone plays a song that was ridiculous and several people make a comment before I say jokingly to skip the song. The Lovely bartender then yells out that skip button is only for people who tip... I then gave her a quarter and walked out. (all this was I the time frame of 1 and 1/2 beers) Its to bad I have relatives whos band plays there and would like to go again but if I see this woman there again I will not be staying. read more

I want to start by saying I've been to many local bars in the area and this is by far my favorite. All the bartenders are amazing The bartender Molly specifically is always so fun with me and all the other patrons. She makes me feel like I'm hanging out drinking with a best friend and catching up. I liked this place upon walking in. It had a full crowd and I liked the back deck area. So I decide to go up to the bar. The DRUNK brunette bartender in her late 20's was a totally low class, trashy pig. I ordered my first beer and she stood in front of me glaring and demanding her tip. Thinking maybe she was having a bad night I gave her a dollar. So I order my second beer, but this time I test her and see what she does if I ignore her glaring and snide comments. Low and behold she becomes angry and starts shaking a few quarters in her hand to make the change clink trying to grab my attention. I keep ignoring. She then starts harassing me and throwing out the insults. Calling me a lowlife and a P.O.S. The harassment goes on for about 2 minutes. I grab 75 cents out of my pocket, put it on the bar and to my amusement she gets angrier. She now was insulted that I didn't give her paper money. She decides to kick out the entire group i was with and the harrassment didnt stop until the last guy was out the door. My tab was 6.50 and I tipped 1.75. She is a SHIT stain on the face of your business and I hope the owners can realize this one day and send that trash out to the curb for garbage pickup. read more
