As was the case with countless others, I had a November 2020 wedding scheduled that was impacted by the pandemic lockdown. That's not anyone's fault. However. The client service from the manager/owner John is abhorrent. (The event coordinators are kind and very responsive.) We'd made deposits, and were scheduled to make another -- literally, I had optimistically send out save the dates -- but the city still had restrictions on how many people could gather in the space. My contract was for 130 people. When I reached out to Arts Ballroom to discuss the way forward, thinking that they MUST have some kind of action plan about how they were going to move forward with existing contracts and triage, there was nothing. No plan. No mitigation strategy. No flexibility to bump the date. Just an expectation of payment for my contracted amount. We asked to move the date to 2021. John told us no, because our Nov. 2020 date would be considered lost revenue because it's a date he could've sold to someone else. This was illogical -- if the city wouldn't let us gather in 2020, he wouldn't have been able to sell the date to ANYONE. That was the whole point -- we were trying to get ahead of what was very obviously inevitable: we weren't going to be able to host anything in 2020, and rather than proceed as planned -- spending all kinds of money on vendors and invitations, only for Arts Ballroom to call us THIRTY DAYS BEFORE to reschedule (yes, they were only alerting to reschedule 30 days out) we wanted to be proactive and get ahead of it. For those keeping score at home: you send wedding invitations 6 to 8 weeks out. Make it make sense. We even offered extra money to move the date for for peace of mind -- our primary concern was exposure to people who were at risk -- no dice. No dice and no action plan. But he did ask us if we wanted to just buy a new 2021 date! Ha. He then cockily talked through *his* obligations to the bank which -- I'm sorry, but I'm a paying customer. His business dealings are not my business--apply for small business pandemic support or something. His responsibility is to his customers, but I guess not. It's also telling that his business had no cash reserves so he had to hold folks' feet to the fire this way. Needless to say, we canceled and lost a significant deposit. In hindsight, it was a small price to pay to not have to work with his clueless arrogance. (He was very confident, despite saying he didn't watch the news, that the pandemic would clear up by our date.) I was walking a dog with a friend this weekend, and happened in front of the venue where I saw someone casually smoking crack on the corner across the street. I chuckled and took it as a sign.

The ceremony was held in their covered outdoor space which was remarkable! The indoor cocktail hour was great with indoor and outdoor seating and bars and plenty of varied food. Again beautiful views all around and outstanding service. The food was great, drinks were very good. They were not too sweet nor too strong yet not weak. Very well made drinks! The reason for my four stars are the bathrooms. The indoor restroom was located on the lower level with a very very long and steep staircase. With several ladies in heels and mature adults I saw it as a hazard. The reception was held in another room (open air ) but completely covered in a tent which was perfect! it was warm, decorated nicely and did not feel like a tent by by means. The views are absolutely breathtaking! The service was outstanding! The food was very good but my fav were the desserts. They had freshly made crepes and a variety of sweets, cookies, patties etc.

One dish had sat at a place in front of a guest, which had been touched and tasted and four minutes later, was removed and served to another guest. Had this not been a family event I would've asked for the dish to be destroyed. The servers, let their boyfriend/girlfriends know about the event, and there were several wedding crashers. At the end, the evening we had two thefts, (an expensive handbag, two iPhones and a debit card that was used for multiple purchases), which have never been resolved to our satisfaction. While Finley catering deserves top scorers for their food and presentation, their lack of management oversight and unscrupulous employees makes me hesitant to recommend them to anyone.

My family and many guests are from New York and included many people in the entertainment industry who are used to attending lavish affairs. Well, the compliments on the venue and how beautiful it is; the food and how fabulous, plentiful and "un-wedding-like it was" and the service keep coming. Our guests say the food was like that they've had in the finest restaurants in the world. The service was white glove all the way - and the venue is so beautiful and historic, it's no wonder it was chosen to be featured in the movie Silver Linings Playbook. We looked at many venues when my daughter first became engaged - everywhere from NYC to northern NJ to CC Philadelphia. When my daughter saw the Ben, she knew from the start that this was where she wanted her wedding. Trish Finley was so easy to work with, so charming and so much fun. Weddings are nervous making but Trish kept us calm and gave us great advice on food and drink choices. She knows her stuff and we trusted her implicitly. She also made us feel like VIPs every time we met with her. She always remembered our names and wedding date - my daughter had a two and a half year engagement - and made us all feel so special. That's not an easy task - and many others with whom we met didn't do that. I don't have enough complimentary words for Ott Ricci, the superman who is the maitre d' and wedding organizer extraordinaire. Under his exemplary care, talent and skills, we were made to feel like royalty that evening. Every single one of our guests complimented us on how beautiful and fun the wedding was. The food was beyond anything I've ever experienced at any other wedding or party. To say it was copious is an understatement. It flowed - and it was all delicious! From the cocktail hour to the dinner to the incredible desserts (thank you, Marilyn and Potito Bakers), everything was delicious and beautifully presented. Our guests were treated to an extraordinary evening and our beautiful daughter and her wonderful husband had a wedding they will remember fondly for the rest of their lives. The evening was beyond anything I could have imagined. Our guests enjoyed every minute as did we - but most important, my daughter and my new son-in-law had the wedding of their dreams come true.
