Found this gem while exploring a less touristy part of London near Tower Bridge. The cobble stone street makes you feel like you are in a historical location yet with modern buildings. The Dixon hotel is close by but wanted to explore a new location for breakfast/coffee. Upon walking in, you are greeted by a showcase of their beautiful pastries; we were seated at a high top table by one of the servers and given menus. The special for the day was spectacular and the coffee was strong. It was impossible to leave with out a few tasty treats so we got a Nutella blonde and a cookie dough brownie. OMG they are SO worth it! This spot is so delicious and highly recommended; local or tourist, it will not disappoint! read more

This is a small place on the walk to the bus stop every morning. Staff is friendly. Lots of different coffee type options & they sell their beans and an assortment of pastries too. Ordered a flat white, it was excellent! Great quick coffee stop on the way to the bus! read more

Yes, it's a cool little coffeeshop with an interesting background, and maybe I just came at a weird time on an off day, but I didn't feel very welcome there. I know Londoners aren't usually known for their friendliness, but at most of the other coffeeshops I frequent, the vibe is comfortable and the staff seems genuinely happy to be there. The coffee also plays an important role in my rating, and this was a fairly disappointing cup of coffee for me. I had to add sugar to my latte for the first time in a while. However, the effort is there, and I know this place has a very loyal following. Not to mention decadent sweets galore! So, I'll give it the benefit of the doubt. The only problem is, for someone who is only visiting London, time is precious and it shouldn't be wasted on subpar coffee with lukewarm service. read more

Love, love, love this coffee shop on Bermondsey Street. Over the year, it has become my go-to place for a weekend pick-me-up. In a nutshell: Serves up great coffee and irresistible desserts :) Lovely space with a tasteful and rustic design The Watch House is hard to miss if you are making your way down Bermondsey Street. It's located right at the end of Bermondsey Street by St. Mary's Churchyard. It's a cozy place with a few seats in the nook and two tables outside. When you walk in, it is a sensory explosion - loaves of bread stacked against the wall; fresh sandwiches; cakes and delicious looking desserts; and artisan merchandise (granola, chocolates, honey) for sale. As it is a small area, you might be faced with a short wait to place your order and a bit of bumping shoulders to pick it up. Tucked away at the lower end of Bermondsey St is a renovated guards house that used to watch over the graves next door. Now it's worth coming south of the river for your daily coffee. It's full of character and the wood burner is a real charmer as the winter months roll on in. Serving Ozone coffee they know that an Americano doesn't come with milk and that it's different to a long black. But don't be fooled, it's no Shoreditch hipster attraction. It's just pure passion and filled with local lovers. However it's not all about the coffee. Their tea selection is pretty top and I'm an avid lover of the Green tea: jade tips after lunch. With wifi, built in phone chargers and serving a fine healthy breakfast, it's hard not to have this place as one for the "frreelancer's office" list. I know it's on mine! read more

This little cafe popped up during the street festival at the end of the summer. It's situated in a unique building, a tiny 19th century room which I believe was attached to the nearby church at some point. The space is cozy - lots of wood paneling and benches, and exposed brick, albeit it can be a bit of a tight squeeze. The pastries, soups and sandwiches here look amazing! I've heard great things about the doughnuts and salmon bagel. I just popped in for a chai, which was good. They do seem a bit frazzled with the service (I asked for a to go cup, didn't get one, but the two women in front of me did, when they didn't, etc). Minor growing pains I think. Tucked away on the corner of Bermondsey and Abbey Street, The Watch House is a small rustic coffee shop serving delicious coffee, sandwiches and pastries. I'm staying in the neighborhood for two weeks and love coming here for my morning coffee and snack. My go-to is a small cappuccino, which is £2.80. It's smooth and creamy with a noticeable hint of almond. In a recent visit, I tried their seasonal ham and cherry tomato quiche and it was delicious! The crust was buttery but not overly flakey. It held the quiche together as I ate it with my hands only. The filling was also very flavorful and tasted of quality ingredients. They did not skim on the ham and the cherry tomato was really fresh and sweet, giving the quiche very balanced flavors. Overall, The Watch House is a fantastic place to grab quality coffee and pastries. Come early though as all the sandwiches and most pastries are sold out by 2PM! P.S. they also have USB charging ports on their seats. read more

I walked in close to closing time Friday and got a nice cauli, spinach, capers and goat cheese salad that comes with dressing (one of two containers left). Whilst it tasted delicious- whoever knew capers and seasoned cauli tasted so good together!- £4 was just too expensive for the portion size. Still, it's a cute place with a relaxing atmosphere and lots of goodies on display so I would pop by here if in the area again, just wouldn't make a special trip. read more

A cute location and theme, it is the perfect cafe to pop in and do your best to find a seat. We were lucky having beaten the morning rush. They had a lovely selection of pastries although I didn't try any. Coffee was on point, strong and with Mork chocolate on the menu, it was a good sign. This cozy little coffee house on Bermondsey street serve up great coffee, sandwiches and cakes from SweetTooth Factory as well as being the latest home for Waffle On - a street food trader who can also be found down Maltby Street Market. You can now indulge in buttermilk waffles with spicy fried chicken and maple butter or crispy shredded dick with excellent, tangy, homemade plum sauce topped off with a runny egg - duck n waffle eat your heart out! There is also a savoury vegetarian waffle with goats cheese and blueberries. Very, very good coffee on Bermondsey st. If you are looking for a caffeine hit and 'fuckoffee' offends you with its naughty name then come here. Very small, ie about 4 to 5 tables with capacity of 2ppl at each but often someone tries to ram in a buggie cutting down covers. I am yet to achieve a table and there is very often someone in there on a computer (grrr the place is too tiny!). Service is a little slow but staff are friendly. Watch your coffee as often the orders are out of order. The bagels look delicious but are often the day before's bread so very stale. The croissants are a highlight. Both almond and ham and cheese. Very cool little coffee house in the old watch house for St. Mary Magdalen's Church in Bermondsey. Apparently, long ago, somebody lived in the watch house to prevent grave robbers from the adjacent cemetery. It's now been beautifully converted to a coffee house. Exposed brick walls inside and a few tables. I had a great flat white two days in a row, a delicious croissant one day and a nice salmon bagel the next. My friend had porridge one day which he said was great. They have built-in USB ports to plug in electronics. Looks like a great collection of baked goods and breads. Really nice service. read more

I really like this tiny coffee shop that used to be attached to St Mary Magdalens cathedral. My husband discovered most of the menu including the cappuccinos, lattes and croissants and muffins. The coffee is strong but smooth and the pastries are delicious and I believe homemade. Come down and check out this tiny little gem! read more
