I also find it strange that people insist on packing out Starbucks when real Italian coffee is right next door, but the world is an awfully strange place. Caffe Paradiso is bright, cosy and full of tasty looking treats, from sumptuous sandwiches and salads to devilish looking cakes and pastries. It's in a really pretty area of London to boot - walking distance from the Thames with a lovely cobbled square out front with some beautiful statues scattered about. The cafe is a great place to meet friends for a caffeine jolt before sauntering along the river.

Nice place to hang out for a few hours and work in Shad Thames. I like their chocolate croissants and muffins.

But no, the bakery is indeed tucked on a market street across from a rail road type place. Once you are on that street, you'll see more people. The inside is beautiful. And lots of delicious bakery options. Not a lot of interaction with staff (very corporate London vibe although decorated like a cozy French bakery), just order at the front. Although their baked goods seemed great, I'm not sure I'll come back except to pick up baked goods if around the area, definitely not when it's dark out.

This morning, I strolled down Bermondsey Street for a Cold Brew when I noticed gorgeous pastries in the window at @comptoir_bakery . After re-fueling with caffeine, I returned to Comptoir and noticed that they had tasty looking Sausage Rolls, which are on my London Food Bingo Card. A Sausage Roll consists of seasoned sausage, surrounded by layers of puff pastry, baked until golden brown. Comptoir's had light and dark sesames on top. I often prefer savory pastries, and this still warm Sausage Roll was the perfect mix of seasoned sausage and satisfying flaky pastry shell. I don't know if I'll have other Sausage Rolls while I'm in London, but this one sets a high standard. My family is still asleep and haven't tried the other pastries and donuts I bought, but they look amazing. I had a sliver of chocolate pastry and it was delicious and flaky. Service was top rate too. If you find yourself in London, @comptoir_bakery on Bermondsey has my high recommendation.

This has become one of my go to coffee spots for whenever I'm in Bermondsey. It has a really cosy…read moreand homey atmosphere, and is perfect for getting work done! I'd suggest taking a laptop or a notebook there, it's the perfect place for productivity. So far I have gotten their iced latte, avocado rye, granola bowl and flat white. The iced latte was great, but the avocado rye was okay. I feel like it could've done with some more chilli flakes or seasoning. I loved the granola bowl and have had it multiple times now, the balance of sweetness in the granola and honey mixed with the slight sourness of Greek yoghurt really go well together. Their flat whites taste like strong lattes, which is exactly what I look for Overall the service is pretty quick, but one or two times I've been they've taken a while to make my coffee. But they are friendly, and did apologise for the wait. Despite the slight problems, I would definitely recommend Hej Coffee!

If you're a small eater like me, I warn you not to take a whole piece for yourself, it's way too much! Honestly I could have stayed there for hours while reading my book and enjoying my coffee. The problem is that they have no toilet. So unless you have a super bladder, your time there has to be limited. I'm thinking that maybe they did this on purpose because otherwise people would stay there the whole day? So share your cake, don't drink too much and you'll have the nicest time at HEJ Coffee!

The hype, in my opinion, is still a bit overdone, but I have to say, the coffee has only gotten better over time, and it's not the worst place for people-watching if you manage to snag a seat. Their espresso is now perfectly balanced and blends well with your choice of cow, oat, or nut juice. Their pastry selection has also expanded, and now carries a modest artisanal spread, from Pistachio Financiers to sugar-coated brioche. Croissants also abound, and in the colder months, they carry Italian Panetone, which soaks up that coffee brilliantly. The space is still small, and during the busier hours, your only probable choice will be to stand at one of the back counters with your tiny spread. They still don't offer take-away cups, unless you're willing to shell out £5 for one of their reusable cups. The bright side: You get those £5 back if you return the cup. Being one of London's finer purveyors of coffee, they also sell pricey beans with a little something for every coffee lover to take home with them. If you happen to come during the Winter Holidays, try to snag one of their cozy seats in the corner of the shop beneath the window facing Borough Market; you won't be sorry.
