You get a LOT of food here. This was my first visit and opted for the relatively inexpensive "hand made burger" with bacon and cheese. It came with chips. Lots of them. The burger was so big that the meat, cheese, and bacon were stacked beside the bun, lettuce, and tomato. By the time I got it together it was huge. I actually could not eat it all and I am 6'4" and 260 pounds. And it was absolutely DELICIOUS. Unbelievable for under ten pounds. Well the cheese and bacon were extra. Maybe without those I could have finished it. The staff were very friendly and smiling, and only took eager to assist our whims. If I had to think of something to complain about I'd say there was no mobile signal in the area but that is hardly their fault. Definitely five start and worth visiting again and again. The menu is so large and if a simple hamburger was this good the only way to go is up!

Decor: The bar and restaurant are both nicely decorated, with a nice motif of different legal tenders on the walls, speaking to The Bank's past life. Food: The menu is very long, somewhat confused in its breadth, but what we had from it was great. - Baked Brie - Haggis Bon Bons - Steak & Ale Pie - Bank Classic Double Burger with peppercorn sauce It was all pretty much as you expect from the names, except the Bon Bons, which are actually Haggis Pakora by another name (complete with Raita). The portions were massive BTW, so wear a loose trouser. Ambience: Unfortunately we were seated next to a cross between loose women and a hen party, even though there were window tables at the other end that were free and unreserved. Additionally this is obviously where the hotel breakfast is served as I spent my meal watching one of the staff restocking variety packs of cornflakes and refilling a tea carousel. Yeah, the window would have been a better option really. All together our cheque came to £40 which I didn't think was at all bad for starters, main courses and drinks.

The hotel room was modern with lots of sockets for phones and tablets. The bathrooms had been…read moreupdated and were clean and efficient while still maintaining old world style. My American sensibilities are against separate taps for hot and cold water. The hot water comes out very hot and seems like a waste verses having a mixing tap. Also, the knobs to turn off the water were quite small and difficult for me to fully close with my arthritic hands. That being said the entire staff was VERY ACCOMMODATING, addressing all our requests and needs. The breakfast in the bed and breakfast scheme was very good value. Dinner was average but again service was excellent. I'd book again when in the area.

I just returned from a November visit to this resort. I read before my trip some negative reviews…read moreon some other review sites, so I want to provide a different perspective. I majority of the reviews I read about this resort concerned the drafty cottages and the cost of electricity. Obviously November gave us our share of cold weather, and I am happy to say that our cottage was very comfortable. The cottage was freezing when we arrived, but the staff member who showed us around showed us where the radiators were and how to control them as well as providing advice on running them economically. The unit heated up very quickly. The extra cost for electricity at the end of the week was about £50 which was much less than the amounts suggested by other reviewers. We ate at the cottage at least 1 cooked meal per day and kept the cottage comfortably warm. The furniture and layout of the cottage was very nice and provides good accommodation for up to 3 couples. We only ate at the Linsey room 1 night but the experience was very good and I will enjoy memories of that evening for a long time to come. When we made reservations for the meal we were told that we would be seated at a table with other people. When we got there it was a banquet table with about 25 others. The atmosphere was good and we were encouraged to meet other guests. The food was good and then to our surprise an entertainer showed up. The person was a very good singer, singing traditional Scottish tunes as well as being quite the comedian. I may not have signed up for this event if I had known all that was involved, but I can tell you that I thoroughly enjoyed it. Over all this resort was wonderful, and provided us with an extremely relaxing holiday. If I could change anything I would ask that the resort provide a few condiments in the kitchen. Overall I highly recommend this resort.

From the road, this establishment looks underwhelming. Do not be fooled. This is a story of…read morediscovery (by us), tolerance (by them), and of very good cheer (from everyone). Upon arrival, we were seated in the lounge area, where we had drinks and browsed the menu. These food-choosing pre-table situations can often feel like a sort of endless, hunger-prolonging purgatory, but here it was actually very pleasant. The lounge was cosy and traditional, and we were there just long enough to greet each other, drink a glass of champagne and have our orders taken. The menu was fabulous. It is the sort of menu dreaded by people who find it difficult to make a decision, because it is simply impossible to narrow down the choices by rejecting the ones that sound minging. I wanted everything on this menu. Inevitably, the moment arose where it was my turn to order and I still had no idea which of God's creatures I wanted to eat, let alone which of the many lovely-sounding forms on offer I wanted it presented to me in. This could have been painfully awkward for everyone, but our delightful host, Scott, waited patiently until I had decided, through a quite irrational process of elimination (although aided by some helpful description), that I was going to have the blue cheese crème brulee followed by the East Neuk fisherman's pie. And a sticky toffee pudding. Our group was then led to a private dining room in an enchanting old converted barn, complete with beams and a roaring log fire. Family gatherings can become uproarious, and this arrangement was welcomed by all, saving the more conservative members of the party from being publically humiliated by any loudly uttered innuendo or other inappropriate comment that may be voiced, particularly by the older generation. They also provided the birthday girl (from said older generation) with a card, which was a lovely touch. I found all three of the dishes I selected to be quite exquisite, which also seemed to be the general consensus around the table. As well as being indecisive, I am a slow eater, but, despite the fact that Scott and his lovely waitress had to come and go about twelve times after each course before I had caught up with the rest of the table and they could take away my plate, they remained cheerful and attentive. The staff really were marvellous. They managed to deliver each desert to the correct recipient even after most of our large group had decided to all change seats for the third time. They also were not fazed by having to continuously leap out the way to avoid getting in any of the three hundred group photos/food snaps/selfies that were taken during the course of our visit. Nor did they mind when we discovered that the curtain ties made marvellous turbans. A discovery which led to more selfies. Unfortunately, I only have photos of the deserts, because up until then I was concentrating mostly on consuming a lot of the fabulous wine that was on offer, but rest assured the starters and main courses were equally well presented. I had not thought it possible that generous portions of traditional Scottish food could be presented with such finesse, but here they managed it, and it was wonderful. We had our coffee and a surprise Valente in the lounge area, where, having moved all of the furniture into an arrangement of our choice, we sang Happy Birthday and ate the cake we'd brought with us. So idyllic was it, that, if we had not had to rush to the airport, we might still be there now. The moral of this story is, then, that you should take chances when choosing a luncheon spot. When driving past do not be fooled by the unassuming exterior, because inside is a charming wee restaurant with excellent food and delightful staff.

Unfortunately, we were seated at a table right in front of an exterior door, which was used frequently. As a result, I was repeatedly blasted with rushes of very cold air throughout the meal. The staff was reasonably friendly, but at times appeared, as did all the other locals we encountered in bars and restaurants, somewhat frazzled by the sudden appearance of thousands of visitors, all hungry. And thirsty. At the end of the meal, we waited an inordinately long period of time for someone to acknowledge our need of a check. The menu was specialized for the event, and prix fixe. Everything we ate was very good, and many of those items, or similar items appear on the most recent menu I could find online. We would happily visit the Inn for dinner again, and I would definitely recommend it to visitors to St. Andrews who want to explore the environs of the town a bit more in depth.

Very very reasonable dressed crab and fresh lobster. On a sunny day (yup you are in the East Neuk, so these days are not too rare) between Easter and September, come down to the harbour for some al fresco dining. It is a little bit of New England in Scotland! Here is how you tackle the lobster shack. 1. Make sure it is open - opening hours are variable, but usually open weekends from Easter, and in the height of the summer, they are open during the week for lunch. 2. Bring glassware/plastic cups and corkscrew if you are wanting juice/wine 3. Get some cash - they don't take cards 4. Go to the hut and pick your lobster, they are live and will be freshly boiled for you. 5. Whilst lobster is boiling, go to the co-op across the road and buy some wine, bread, salad or anything else you want to have with the lobster/crab - the lobster/crab is just served as is, no lemon or anything. 6. Come back and grab yourself a bench, get your delish lobster/crab which will be served on a glass plate with real cutlery. 7. Enjoy - guaranteed you will! But please, please, don't tell anyone else - this is a really special place, we don't want it too busy now!!
