So happy to have stumbled into The Well Read Moose on a recent trip to Coeur d'Alene! The Well Read Moose is small, but packed with a great selection. They carry a great selection of books, stationary, and even their own merchandise. I found the books to be priced pretty normally, following MSRP. I was greeted pleasantly when I walked in and checked on a few times while I was shopping, but never obnoxiously. It's located in a great little shopping center with plenty of restaurants and parking. I absolutely loved the few minutes. LOVED this bookstore! As a seasoned travel writer and avid reader, I visit a lot of bookstores, and I just teally loved this one. I was slightly worried how politically-driven it might lean, given its proximity to a coffee shop apparently called "maha coffee" (insert barf emoji). However, this place was a bibliophiles dream. Love the curated selection. Loved the kids selection and cozy nooks. Found many items I wanted to buy. Lovely staff, too. read more

The one star ratings are kind of ridiculous... that being said this is one of the cutest bookstores I've ever been to!! They had the book I was looking for (one of the biggest releases this year) and it was signed!! I'm from Phoenix, AZ the pricing is typical pricing and the selection was impressive. For a store that claims to support local authors, I felt very put off by the owner's absolute snubbing of me back when they first opened. She gave me her contact information and told me to send her the information on my books. I did so, and she never responded. It was part of a series of events that led to my decision to just give up. What I've learned is that if I'd been a female author they'd likely have been all over getting me in for a signing. additional: Wow... what a load of nonsense from the owner below. To get your book in the store it has to have been published in the last 12 months. Note above where I said I GAVE UP. I stopped writing FIVE YEARS ago because it was just heartache after heartache. Nice platitudes, but they don't make up for not responding to MULTIPLE attempts to communicate with you at the time. The truth is, you just didn't care. read more

Nobody was available to assist me with questions on the book I was hoping to find. And what I did find was full price. Granted, MSRP is to be expected at places like Barnes and Noble, but you'd think a local store would at least offer some sort of incentive for locals to patronize them. read more

This is a clean little book store with friendly staff close to the hotel we were staying at. They helped my wife find the book she was looking for and since they have a pretty good selection she found a few more books she couldn't live without. They have a program that gives you 20% off when you spend $150 or more and the discount never expires. Would highly recommend! read more

This cute, cozy little bookstore is a gem! I love small, independent bookstores, so this was a perfect stop on our visit to Coeur d'Alene on December 9th. Although I was just browsing, I was offered assistance from a kind gentleman who also waited on me when I checked out. They have books from every genre, including regional outdoor books, which I love. They have a large children's and young adult section as well. I settled on a nonfiction book I've had my eye on, and I even had the privilege of joining their loyalty program. Previous reviews noted that they used to serve coffee. That would be amazing if they could bring that back, as this would be a perfect place to read a book and enjoy a latte! This place is cute as a button! I met up with a friend on a cold, rainy day (aka perfect for a cozy bookstore), and we had such a good time. The bookstore is diverse, and they offer little reviews for the books, which is always a help. But my favorite part is that café. The server was so kind and helpful. I am vegan, so I always have to ask questions about what's in stuff, and she was not put off. She even asked me about substitutes for vegan baking! I felt so welcome. She made me a DELICIOUS maple latte with soy milk. It came in a big brown mug that had the store name on the side. Do they sell these? If not, they should! The café has a nice selection of snacks and drinks, including beer and wine. I would be here all the time if I lived closer! read more

This place had such a cute name I could not help but stop here! It's a cute bookstore with new books with a coffee shop within. It had a pretty decent chai and very good huckleberry bars, so I was in a very happy place! I got a bunch of moose merch, because why not? Definitely recommend! read more

Review is for morning and early afternoon visits. I have not been here for beer or evening hours. Well Read Moose is like a tiny piece of heaven in an overpriced semi-pretentious glorified strip mall. They use whole bean doma coffee and grind it fresh daily. I am known to stick to one coffee beverage but have been known to switch it up by adding ice! ha. They make my double shot soy caramel latte (with only 1/2 pump carmel) perfect every single time. Oh man do I love consistency! Sweet treats: There are so many little edible goodies in there that I have yet to try and I probably never will as my sweet tooth is non existent. These goodies come from many local vendors. I recently had a quinoa breakfast bar with raspberry filling and it was hard to tell that it was semi good for you. Bagels and breakfast sammiches: 2 eggs scrambled, on a bagel with cheese and tomato... $2.99 and if you want avo then add $.75. What a deal! I have also requested an extra egg and they had no problem accommodating that request. If you prefer peanut butter with your bagel instead of the typical cream cheese then this is the place as they have yummy PB. Books and more: Mike is usually the man working the book store part of this place and he is on it! He has a passion for books and reading and he has a passion for that business! Constantly shooting the sh@$ with customers and getting deep into literature if the conversation allows. I love seeing his face light up when a customer speaks of a book Mike has read or is intrigued by. Book nerds have a special place in my heart! Tidbits: Socks galore, so many funny socks! Adult coloring books and a kids reading area in the back. There is also a small reading area in front of the window where one can enjoy a book with coffee, beer or wine and watch the world pass them by. There is a restroom and it is super duper clean. I have enjoyed conversations with many of the lovely ladies who barista here and it is my favorite coffee shop in the area. Please note that it is a person operating system back there so where food and beverages are ordered it make take quite a while to get food and that is the only reason for the 1 star deduction. This is a solid business with great people who work there and who take pride in working at the Well Read Moose. read more

I love this local bookstore! It has all the current books of a big bookstore plus the fun gift items that are specific to the Pacific Northwest. I have ordered a book that wasn't in stock and was pleased with the process. My daughter was able to place a hot off the press book on hold on release day and we picked it up that afternoon. This is the place to go if you need a good book to read or the next book in your favorite series! read more

Definitely a cute place but very disappointed when asked if they had or could order 2 best seller books I was interested in. I wasn't real surprised after browsing a bit and seeing that there weren't too many politically conservative type books but a whole lot of the opposite. I can't even put into words how much I love this tiny little shop. There's something so beautiful and cozy about the atmosphere. Coffee...Wine... Beer... most importantly Books! All the best things in life in one locally owned location. I'm apart of the rewards program and the savings are so great. Love that they do tastings and have book clubs... I've met the owner Julie a few times and she's so kind and it seems like every time I go there she's there. It's nice to see someone so invested in their business. Better than Barnes and Noble by far. Go in, have a good cup of coffee or a glass of wine and cozy up with your favorite book. Love the hand made index cards with reviews/synopsis of the books. This is the best bookstore in Coeur dAlene. Very friendly and helpful staff, great selection of books, gifts, and unusual souvenirs. Their cafe has wonderful food and drinks. I particularly like the Hogsmeade latte and their "Moose Treats" (A small , square pastry that is home made and very filling and good. It's a healthy treat, but has lots of flavor.) My mom and I have literally spent many happy afternoons here. The Owner is very friendly as well. She treats you like you matter. read more

This is such a neat little, independent book store! I have been bringing my baby to the Wednesday night Story Time, quite often, over the past few months. They have someone read stories for 30 minutes and they provide snacks. And the Mom's and Dad's can get an adult beverage to enjoy, in the little cafe that they have. The people that work here really seem to enjoy their jobs. I love the book selection and the atmosphere. Unfriendly and Overpriced. Scant selection. Does not represent locals. The shopkeeper yelled at us across the room about what we were wearing almost as soon as we entered the store. This is not a good place to shop. We were with family and want to go places we feel welcome. We had books in our hands and gifts ready to buy, but being yelled at really turned us off. Coffee was good- I had a black americano which she made sure she pulled good shots and my husband had a tasty mocha.
