I came with 3 friends on a Saturday and was able to grab a booth at the back near the kitchen soon after arriving. There was a line up for tables, but the host seem to keep it moving and organized people efficiently. However, there was a looooong wait for food after we placed our orders. At least a 30 minute wait. When our server kindly checked the kitchen, we were informed that our order was third in line. Either we were all hungry, or there was a strange delay because it felt like the longest time before we got our food. Once arrived, my mushroom and cheese omelette was good but nothing special. I've ate here many times. Both for breakfast and dinner. Big breakfast is quite large and has a nice variety. The oatmeal is thick and filling. The poutine is good so are the nachos. The wings are decent. My only real complaint is the inconsistence with quality. I often get the same breakfast and every time it's different. Sometimes the pancakes are under cooked and sometimes are eggs are cold. Then there's times where it's perfect.... I recently tried this diner while looking for a place to eat at during lunch time with my father and sister on Locke St. We walked in and took our seats and waited 1O mins to receive our menus. The servers kept switching from our table and it seemed like they didn't know which one should take care of our booth. I noticed that a couple that came after us received their menus and got to order before us while we sat in our booth waiting to get our menus. When we received our food, after what seemed like forever. I was somewhat disappointed. Locke St restaurants are known to leave a memory about their food but this place didn't do that. I got the west town nachos and it tasted bland. There was nothing really special about it. The same could be said about my sister's meal who got the chicken fingers and fries. Her fries were not salted and she said it didn't taste that great. Overall we will not be coming back. West Town is a juxtaposition in appearance. From the outside, it looks like a quaint breakfast restaurant. Inside, it looks like a college pub bar with booths, TVs switched to sport channels and posters on the wall. But don't let appearances fool you: you're going to eat one of the best breakfasts outside of your mom's kitchen. I imagine this place to be popular with a younger, university crowd in the evenings. But on Sunday mornings, you have a mixture of young families, older couples, young adults and everything else in between. My friends and I didn't have to wait too long for a table; West Town is a popular spot for everyone to start their day over plates of delicious food. The atmosphere is relaxed and homely; the staff is fantastic and friendly. We had the best server! The food is great: it's fresh, not-greasy and the servings are generous. I didn't ask but it seemed to me like the food came from local farmers and food providers because of their size and taste. The eggs in my omelette tasted light and fluffy; my sausages were hefty in size with herbs and lightly spiced; and the bacon was thick, flavourful and properly cooked. Seriously, you either get overcooked or undercooked with bacon; I felt like Goldie Locks because these were done just right. Plus, the prices are cheap: I paid $7.99 for my omelette, plus $2.00 for my sausages. You can get the choice of one or two eggs for a regular breakfast and it starts at $6.00. Amazing. The two things I disliked: the coffee wasn't very strong and the washrooms are something to be desired. But other than that, I felt like I hit a homerun with West Town and I'm definitely coming back when I'm in the city again. read more

From the other reviews of this place on Yelp, I have to admit, i expected more. What I got was a diner that serves good food, but slowly. First off, when you arrive, just seat yourself. Otherwise you'll be standing around for ages. Once you're seated, hope and pray that someone comes to help you. We went for brunch on a Sunday and it took us at least 30 minutes to get our food. Considering the food is basically diner-style eggs, in a diner environment, that seemed long to me. I will admit the food was VERY tasty. My peameal bacon, egg and cheese sandwich was cooked perfectly. The eggs benny with home fries was also well-received. (I only tried the potatoes, but they were good.) The West-Town Bar & Grill is a staple on Locke street. From breakfast in the morning, to happy hour, to last call. The quality of the food itself is average at best, and most of the time the service is about the same. The West-Town Grill is the place most kids in high school will go to get their first serving/cooking job. Not to say thats a bad virtue, just that much of the true value in this establishment lies in the charm, atmosphere and general ambiance. Split into 2 bars since I was here last (like 20y ago).. Ordered the perogies off the lunch specials menu.. really great taste with bacon and onions and green onions.. The one kind of onions was actually a little sweet? Really great - reminded me of sweet Maui onions actually.. Tankhouse is only on the one side, but they'll go get it for you if you sit on the other side.. Seemingly that's the only difference between the 2 sides - one used to be smoking and the other non-smoking but they're both non-smoking now. Three stars for excellent service but mediocre food. The sausages weren't breakfast sausages and they were hard and cold. The pancakes were miniature and the "home fries" were just a mix between mashed and roasted potatoes. The actual diner itself is very warm and cosy though. The location is great. Parking can be difficult in this area. You usually end up parking on the street. We went in for lunch today. The inside could use some work but we know this place has been there for a very long time. The restaurant side seems to be a bit rougher around the edges than the bar side for some reason. Burgers were homemade, flavourful and very generous. Spinach salad had real bacon and a home made dressing. We were surprised by the food and the service was great. The burnt tongue was packed so we went here one night. I was not all that impressed by the food here. It is pretty mediocre and the prices do not match the food. My friend had the chicken dish on special that night, and he was not that impressed by it. I had the spinach dip and something else that I cannot remember. Came here twice - once for drinks on a Fri evening and once for brunch on a Sunday. Prefer the bar on the left as you enter but maybe it was the screaming child in the other one I had a problem with ;) Brunch was ok. Good price if you dont want to switch stuff around / add stuff I had Joes big breakfast (2 eggs, bacon, sausage, toast, home fries, pancake ) and my partner had steak and eggs. Total bill was CAD 36ish including tip. The hiring policy seems to be based on short shorts and vest tops but our server was pretty on it - we didn't run short of coffee or have to wait for the check All in all I would come back for brunch - it was pretty good. read more

Wrapping up an academic term, our group wanted to come out for one last brunch - it was awesome that everyone joined. West Town has a fairly casual feel, nice and relaxed. Typical diner menu for breakfast. Omelettes look great - I got mushroom and cheese, a bunch of people got the Spanish omelette. Eggs Florentine are very nicely prepared too. Home fries are great - not too greasy, which I appreciated. A bunch of us also shared their pancake special - chocolate chips and coconut stuffed pancakes. Served hot and fresh at the end with chocolate melting and sticking everywhere. Pretty cool way to finish off. Went to The West Town for the first time yesterday and ordered the pear and pomegranate french toast special. When it arrived it came without any pomegranate. I asked if it had been forgotten and the server went to the kitchen to check. When she returned she told me that the pomegranate had been drizzled over the top of the pear. I could neither (a) taste nor (b) see ANY trace of pomegranate - there was NO hint of the red/pink of pomegranate anywhere on my plate. I felt like I was in some breakfast food version of The Emperor's New Clothes. I suppose it's possible there exists some clear pomegranate syrup somewhere - though why you wouldn't at least throw some red food dye in there is beyond me. (And when advertising pear and pomegranate, I don't think it's an unusual expectation that there be real fruit.) If you're out of pomegranate, no worries! But don't tell a customer some ridiculous lie and then get grumpy when they don't believe you. read more

Had the typical breakfast, eggs cooked perfectly to over easy, and place was very busy. Looked like a nice spot to come for drinks too (probably should have....hair of the dog) but opted against it. Noticed the sausage you get with the breakfast aren't those little fatty links, but actually legit full size pieces of real sausage. Decent, and will go back to try sometime. read more

West Town is a fun place to go and relax for awhile. The food is decent and the service is fantastic. It can be a bit pricey, but the portions are large (often enough for leftovers). There are two sides to the restaurant- the left is more fun with a sports bar feel. The right has larger tables and is able to better accommodate families and groups. I recommend ordering the wings (tossed in hot honey sauce) or the Nachos (vegetarian style). read more

Spinach dip was great also but they don't tell you it comes with peppers on top- kind of odd for a spinach dip. Both times I have come here to eat, I left very disappointed. Just took my 5 year old daughter there for breakfast. What a joke. I got her a grilled cheese sandwich... 2 pieces of bread, some form of processed cheddar... and they charged me $5.49. They had a complete breakfast with one egg on the menu for $5.39. When I questioned why it was so expensive the waitress simply agreed that it was ridiculous, but nothing was done to minimize the price and I was not given any explanation as to why. The pancakes I ordered were clearly frozen, precooked garbage. The sunny side up eggs we ordered were covered in snot (raw egg white), sausages tasted like cheap hot dogs, and the bacon was so overcooked it resembled jerkey. I am a cook myself and actually work in a breakfast cafe, and we would NEVER send out this type of low quality food. West town you should be ashamed. What a waste of $25. read more
