Great service, great drinks, and one of my favorite burgers on Long Island! The Barrel Burger was cooked perfectly with delicious cheese, maple bacon, and crispy onions. The bun was toasty but soft and the waffle fries were incredible. My Whiskey Barrel Giddy-Up was a fantastic whiskey-based cocktail. I loved it! Service was great. Ambiance is nice as always but felt a bit more white and sterile than my last visit (about a year ago). Might be the lighting, or the painted the walls white, not sure! I feel terrible for the hardworking young waitress at this establishment. She was single-handedly managing ten tables while also seating guests, clearing and cleaning tables--all with no additional support. Meanwhile, the bar had two bartenders, making it the best option for service if a seat was available. We stopped by for lunch during the annual Port Jefferson Ice Festival, a time when you'd expect the restaurant to be adequately staffed. However, instead of preparing for the increased foot traffic, the establishment chose to reserve two tables for friends and family. The owner (or an employee) sat and dined with them while the overwhelmed waitress struggled to keep up. As the restaurant became overwhelmingly packed, the person that worked there that was sitting down eating at the reserved table finally decided to step in--though not in a professional manner. He attempted to seat guests and deliver food, all while holding a vape pen and repeatedly bumping into the waitress, which at one point looked like it was done on purpose. The friends/family that took up two tables finally left and the owner/employee that was most likely off the clock, left as well. Leaving the waitress to continue to struggle. Unfortunately, the food was nothing special and certainly not worth a return visit. More importantly, I'd rather support a restaurant that values both its employees and its customers. We initially were sat outside and.....it's literally just picnic tables in an alley leading to the parking lot with no decorations or anything. Then they forgot about us outside so we went in and asked to sit at the bar. The bartender was super nice and made our two drinks which were delicious! We ordered buffalo wings as an appetizer, a buffalo chicken wrap and pork tacos. Everything came out at one time and it was all cold. The buffalo wings and tacos were good the wrap was 70% lettuce, 20% wrap and 10% chicken. We did sit at the bar so maybe that's why the food came out cold. I came here on Sunday for brunch with some girlfriends. The place was not busy at all, so no wait for a table. For drinks a couple of my friends had the "bottomless" mimosas. Each of them were given an entire bottle of champagne and a carafe of juice. I had the Bloody Mary, which had a fun presentation but the drink was watery and lacked flavor. So I then ordered a cup of coffee. I received a French press coffee but unfortunately this wasn't good either. For food, they got the Dirty Potatoes and I had the Avocado Toast. This is my second time here! I wish I lived closer. The food is good! I've had the salmon which was juicy. This time I had the side salad and the brined fried chicken sandwich. This chicken sandwich has coleslaw, red onions, and pickles it has so much flavor you don't need any condiments. I tasted the short ribs of beef on a panini. The beef was seasoned and tender and they give a bowl of gravy with it. It was great! I also tasted the jack Daniel's burger. The beef was fresh and all the topping with the jack Daniel's sauce come together so well. The service from Will was the best. He was attentive and personable. In June they will have a cigar and whiskey event. Hopefully I can attend. Also heard their brunch is good as well as the mimosas. read more

Few weeks back, my wife had a craving for a burger and we wanted to try a different place. Luckily, the kitchen closes late around 10:15. We ordered a barrel burger and a sear tuna salad. The burger was cooked to perfection at medium rare temp and it held well in the car ride. They were able to accommodate my wife's request to swap for a gluten free bun at no extra charge. Even I bit into the burger and will gladly admit the gf bun didn't dampen the overall taste of the burger. My tuna ahi salad was wonderful and would definitely recommend. Walking in, this may look like a bar food kind of place but after trying their food, you can see it's an elevated taste and feel. We will definitely go back. read more

Jonesing for wings when I saw The Whiskey Barrel menu in Yelp. Chose the Barrel Sauce bone-in wings and, aside from the sticker shock (more later), I was very happy with these wings. They were absolutely delicious!! Very unique! Barrel Sauce is a Bourbon/ Maple sauce and it is delish! Looked like the wings were fried and then tossed in the Barrel Sauce. The only downside is that the flavor doesn't "penetrate ". Once you get past the skin, it's gone. I'm not a chef, so I've got no suggestions for addressing this...maybe offer it as a side as well for dipping??? In all fairness, even though I thought $20 for wings was a lot, you get a LOT of wings. I didn't count, but there were probably 10-12 in my order. That makes it a little more palatable. I never eat more than 6-8, but they were so good I finished the lot. To close, a great wing idea. I'll be back. read more

We needed a local spot for a late night dinner and, not knowing what to expect, we came here because it keeps late hours in a Saturday night. What a great find! The place was really lively, by that I mean loud, but that didn't get in the way of delicious food, very good service, and unusual presentation. We had the cod taco, raw tuna and wontons, and the giant pretzel. The pretzel was hot, soft and delicious, served with two sauces. The wontons were delicious, covered in eel sauce, and plenty of sushi grade tuna, avocado, and hot peppers. And the cod taco was a huge fillet in a crispy, tasty batter. Love this place!! My husband and I stopped here while walking around Port Jeff and we were so happy to see a place like this open up here. We only had cocktails here but the food that was going out looked amazing!! We will definitely go back to try it out. The food and drink menu is awesome, and the drinks we tried were absolutely delicious. Our server was also the bartender and she made the most amazing cocktails. I wish I would remember her name because she was just so great and knowledgeable about all of the cocktails on her menu. The decor in this place is also awesome. This place is so welcoming that you could just hang out here and try everything on the food and drink menu. I am really looking forward to going back here. The experience at this establishment was decent. The staff was cordial and attentive and the food was good. I was, however, underwhelmed by the options, especially on the drink department, which was why I wasn't in utter love with this place. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the ambiance and the live music, but I wish their menu had a little more exciting items in it. It just felt like more of what you might find at any other place with basic Americana cuisine. Granted, it was well made food, but lacking in creative zest. I was also stunned that they had a margarita with a sour mix because they "don't have lines." What? Really? C'mon. In any case, if that's your angle, then say so on the menu (thank god my wife thought to ask). They have multiple vegan options including vegan wings and a cauliflower steak entree. The cauliflower wings were delicious, crispy, and probably the best I've ever had. I had a disappointing experience at Whisky Barrel. We have gone a few times and Unfortunately, the food was not fresh, which was a major letdown. The servers were noticeably short with us, lacking the hospitality you'd hope for. To make matters worse, the beer was served warm, which really detracted from the overall experience. It's clear that some improvements are needed in both service and quality. I hope they address these issues, as it has the potential to be a much better spot with the right adjustments. I will go back and see if the few times I have gone I was just unlucky! read more

Went in for some burgers, whiskey and beer. The whiskey was alright. Saw they had Guinness and asked the young bartender if they did Black and Tans. She was friendly and said "sure" but had to go back and ask her manager how to make one. The manager comes to the bar and makes it for her.. but the manager completely screws up and it all mixes together without any separation. I'm served the failed Black and Tan and accept it- no big deal. For food we got the Lobster Mac and Cheese, the Barrel Burger and the French Dip Burger- rare for both. The Barrel came somewhere between well done and medium rare while the French Dip arrived totally well done. Despite this, I actually preferred the taste of the French Dip burger. The Barrel burger tasted a little funny and was too sweet. I'm sure both would have been better if cooked properly. The lobster mac was good but expensive and a super small portion. We get the check. I thought maybe they would have taken the B&T off and comped it for the shotty pour job. They didn't. I'm mad at myself for being too shy and not sending back at least 1 of the 3 incorrectly prepared orders. Overall it was just too expensive for a sub par meal. 2.5 stars. read more

All the steak sandwiches (4) were lacking in meat quantity. Waitress was friendly, service a little slow but no big deal, we were chitchatting. Bathroom hand dryer was the best I've ever used! But, Please add a hanging hook in the bathroom for pocketbooks, and please use a magic eraser or something to wipe down the bathroom door where people open and close it-it was pretty grimy. Our little group has been looking forward to going here for some time so we finally went on a Saturday night. Pros: it's a cute little place and the other couple really enjoyed their entrees. Cons: where do I start? The waitress was extremely rude especially when we asked for the check. She literally threw it on the table. We have NEVER encountered anything like that. One person received the wrong side. We happened to notice the cigar case and when we already figured out we were not going to smoke outside because it was cold she told my husband "sorry" with the nastiest of tones. We can't forget about the fact there's one bathroom which I guess for the size of the place is fine but there was no soap and if you don't lock the door correctly someone can easily walk in. My group is filled with bourbon drinkers and cigar smokers so we thought this would be a nice place to try where we get the best of it all. It truly was a disappointment. read more

I kept hearing good things about this place so I decided to check it out. I've heard mixed reviews but I actually liked it. We came here for an early dinner and they were setting up for open mic night so by the time we left we didn't get to hear the band perform. But if you're into live music this might be a nice place to visit. We were seated right away and the staff was friendly. The overall vibe is relaxing and the dim lighting makes this a good spot for date night. We ordered burgers (impossible) over salad because we're trying to watch our weight hahah. Honestly it was so filling I could barely finish the whole thing. The burger was cooked and seasoned perfectly. We also ordered the cauliflower wings, which were delicious. They offer different sauces ranging from regular Buffalo to a peach flavored sauce. I love anything peach so I had to try it. One thing I'll say is I expected them to have a little bit more crunch to them so I'm not sure how they're preparing them, but maybe letting them cook for a little extra would have beeen better. They do have a pretty extensive drink menu. Overall I enjoyed everything, and I'll probably go back again. read more
