I cancelled my membership at Castle Hill YMCA within days of joining because the staff here are flat-out rude and unprofessional. They spoke down to my children on multiple occasions, thinking the kids wouldn't tell me. I personally witnessed them being especially nasty toward Black children while sitting around gossiping and judging members like immature teenagers. To make it worse, some staff hid behind Spanish, assuming no one could understand their anti-Black comments. That is not just unprofessional, it's discriminatory and unacceptable. This is supposed to be a family-friendly, welcoming space--but instead, the staff create a hostile and toxic environment. If they keep treating people this way, they're going to end up with serious legal problems. I would never recommend this YMCA to anyone. And now, after I left a negative review, they've decided to try to paint my children as "troublemakers." This is nothing more than a weak attempt at damage control by staff who don't want to take responsibility for their own rude and discriminatory behavior. I also have never seen the pool being cleaned. Not another dime from me. read more

I have been coming to this Y, on and off, both pre and post covid. Facilities are always clean, and really all throughout, at anytime of the day. I really enjoy coming here for a good workout, around likeminded people, rather than any planet fitness.... Iykyk. My favorite time here is definitely the sauna, after a hard workout. 9 out of 10 times I've used it, it's always empty. And who could beat that view from the gym?! If you wanna get a good stretch in, or have your own yoga practice, there's a great, spacious studio just opposite the gym.You can access this area from the main door or the side (by the treadmills) . This room is filled with mats and other accessories you might need. Go in on leg day? They have an elevator that can take you up or down, should you need it. read more

I am a member and am shocked at how the community is being treated. While guest passes were offered last year to struggling families this year they have been excluded from weekends. Now they are excluded this week due to heat advisory. The attitude is we are better than them. This is The Only YMCA doing this ; 96th and Harlem sites are not. I am sure these facilities are subsidized to accommodate those lower income residents. It's very sad to see brown people being condescending to brown people. read more

I have been a member for a long time and this is one of the cleanest nicest YMCA's. Staff is very friendly, gym is nice, pool is spectacular, private and group swim lessons are on point. The summer day camp offers sports, swimming, a field trips. A pretty good deal for the cost if you shop around to other day camps where you have to pay. However, I did have an issue with their camp staff last summer. The only reason I did not give this place 5 stars was bc I had a bad experience with my son at their summer day camp. It was his third year attending. My son is ADHD and 10 years old. One of camp counselors became exasperated in dealing with him running around and not listening that she stated aloud to the other counselors,"is this kid retarded or something?" My son heard it. Totally unacceptable behavior as an educator that deals with children myself. This person was insensitive to the fact that children come with medical issues, emotional needs and baggage that we as adults who work with them are usually unaware of. Mind what you say around children. Words hurt. What she did was disgusting, and I believe all she got was a firm talking to and she apologized to my son and myself. I had to follow up with them, mind you, to find out what course of action they were going to take to remedy the situation. It was only then that an apology was issued. Personally, I believe she should have been let go. My son did not want to return to their camp this year, so we went elsewhere. And quite frankly, I couldn't agree more with his feelings. read more

I rented a space here for my baby shower back in May 2014. When you rent a space you're asked to pay a deposit of $85 to reserve the space and are supposed to receive your deposit back two weeks after the event. Here it is August 25th, my baby is 7 weeks old and I STILL have not received my deposit back! Despite several phone calls/emails to the Rental Coordinator and the Front Desk staff I keep being put on hold , am never called back after leaving messages or my email is ignored. DO NOT patronize this Bronx YMCA!! if you have an event and need a space rental you definitely will not get your money back!! read more

I decided to take swim lessons here. I haven't swam in years and want to solidify my confidence again. Plus, I'm going to Jamaica and don't want to be that person taking pictures of everyone jumping off Dunn's River Falls. I want to jump as well and be in picture. LOL So I signed up. I missed the first class, but I figured, hey, I knew how to swim before (footnote: everybody laughs about this stmt), so it wouldn't be an issue. Get to their second class, 8 other people and there was a substitute instructor. A black guy, I can't remember his name, but will insert it when I do, but he reviewed when they did the previous week and pretty much started his own way (as all instructors are different). So he had us blowing bubbles, then submerge our heads in the water. That's when I realize (that "ah, ha" moment) why I stopped swimming -- I didn't like the water entering my nose and throat. DON'T LAUGH. And, yes, I was holding my breath. So I tell him this and he tells me to breath out through my nose. Ok, moving along, more exercises, but every exercise he gives us, my head is above water and he noticed and commented on this LOL Again, I don't like water in throat/nose feeling and coughing when I come up. So after using paddles, belts, bars, practicing paddling feet while holding wall, he says, okay, let's go to the 8 feet. HUH? O_O! He wanted everybody to jump in the 8 feet, come up and swim to the edge. In my mind (and everyone else's), we're saying "isn't this a beginner class?" Well, I did it [once] and he was pleasantly surprised. All in all, it was a very good first class, but my calves and triceps were hurting when I woke the next morning -- which is a good sign. Our homework for the week was to go home, fill the sink with water and practice blowing bubbles. Can't wait for the next class. [smiling] Oh, so about the Y, when I tell everyone about the fees, etc... they say, "I thought the 'Y' was practically free." Well it's not. The membership is $50 a month and the 8-week swim classes are $170 for non-members ($110 for members). I would join, but I pay for yoga AND the pool isn't available during the hours I would be available to practice. So,.............. read more

They offer a family summer membership that is very affordable. I recommend getting it for the summer and enjoying the pool. We paid for the membership last year and it was a good thing to do on summer afternoons and on rainy days. The locker rooms are clean and secure. The staff at the front desk is helpful. I have not had any experiences with the camp directly but I have only heard good things from people that I know. Things to keep in mind: -At the pool you will require to wear swimming cap ( you can get one at like any sporting goods store) -They have hours where the outdoor pool is closed. Make sure you check the schedule -The playground area is small but I have not been there when its packed -I have only gone on weekdays during the summer- Never have experience a crowd -The swimming courses are a bit expensive but nothing out of this world -Ask many questions. Do not be afraid to speak up -The locker rooms are by gender (there's a family area but that does get packed) -At the pool the little ones must be with an adult at all times. The Bronx YMCA should do an investigation into those that claim they don't have money to pay and need financial assistance, should be investigated!!!! Those women have husbands who own businesses and could afford to pay the price as we all DO! Why should I pay full price to carry those liars when they have more money than many! I don't like welfare recipients who refuse to get the hell off their butts and earn money! Nice place to chill. Only place in the Bronx that won't feel like your in the Bronx if that makes any sense. The view on the bridge and water is nice to have and truly nobody bothers you when you walk in. I usually run into someone I know or hate when I'm in here during the summer time but that's because I make the mistake of going to a YMCA near my house. I love to swim and the pools are clean as well as the locker rooms. Not so crowded and pleasant. However, my new prescription glasses ($500) must have fell out of my locker while I was almost ready to hit the water and making sure my one year old didn't disappear. And yes, I am seeing blurry so I didn't realize they fell, plus the blue mats would not have allowed any noise. To my surprise, someone stole my prescription glasses. Not to even bring them to the front desk, just flat out took them . Just because they have the smallest little Gucci symbol on the leg of the glasses, they had to take them. Plain dark blue glasses. I am very upset and pissed off. Although it is not the centers fault, I feel uncomfortable returning. Otherwise, it's a nice place. read more

I really don't have much complaints about this location other than it is a little small. But I love that I can watch tv while doing my cardio on the treadmill. The staff is pretty friendly and I love that they have a lot of options. You can take classes like spinning, certain workout classes that focus on certain areas of your body. They have an indoor and outdoor swimming pool. You do have to wear a swimming cap though. They also offer swimming lessons. read more

I love the new Zumba instructor and many of the classes are great, however I recently became a member because I need child watch. After weeks of the worker coming late I spoke to a manager who told me that she was aware of the problem and handling it. When I asked how she said I'm trying my best. Basically she was aware of the problem for weeks but did nothing. This is unacceptable and inconvenient for members. read more

Great swim classes for kids here! I signed up for Friday afternoons for my 3yr old and she absolutely loves it. The facility is clean and family friendly, the staff is professional, and the instructors are especially caring and engaging with the children. The pool is super clean and the location is easily accessible and there's always parking. I don't generally do reviews. However, my daughter enjoys herself so much I felt the community should know how great this location is! read more

I have been coming to this gym for about seven months with my friend. I really like this gym because their weightlifting part of the camp is small and never too crowded,it has just the right amount of people for you not to be disturbed so having to weight for a machine is rarely a problem. Now I haven't been to any other gym except this one, so I wouldn't know the social environment in other gyms, but here people are really nice and build friendly relationships with each other. You know the place is really low pressure, you don't have to worry about being judged by other people (if you are concerned about that) because everyone is all shapes and sizes doing are own thing in here. I also really like to see when parents come in with their children to work out, and for anyone who does not know what they are doing regarding exercise, you could just ask one of their trainers, and believe me, they know what they're doing. read more
