That pretty much is all I needed to know about the gym. Whether it's true or not, the gym only knows. Maybe they do have a theft issue maybe they don't. I've gone to a couple of karate schools in the westchester area and hated them but when I came here I couldn't stop. I did over 5+ years here and got up to my high green belt. (Had to stop to stop after my 2nd year of college) I was in the adult class since beginning of high school. There's a mixture of older students to adults in the classes . They mixed up the classes from cardio, to self defense, to ground fighting and forms. Both my younger sister have gone through the program and Hiawatha and Steve have done everything to make sure we got the best deal. It's a safe clean environment. Waiting area for the parents with TVs to watch the all the classes from other rooms. My sisters and I would rotate doing homework while the other was in class. It's close to the metro north and to many food places in Larchmont. I am certainly not the more trained or most athletic person but I absolutely love this place and care about the instructors like family. From the belt ceremonies to learning a new form this place is the best by far from the other schools around. They also offer free trials to test out how you would feel in the class.

This is a review of their gym space and not for the whole center. The gym has multiple drawbacks…read morethe most important one being not having multiple machines for strength training. Last summer they changed vendors for the machine and since then they seem to break quite a lot, and the repairs take forever. For example, currently the leg machine has been out of order for three weeks. And the cable machine is broken every week. So during busy times I end up wasting 15 to 30 minutes waiting for equipment. In the summertime it can get very stuffy inside because they don't have adequate airflow or fans. I have made multiple suggestions in their suggestion box, but as of now seen no results. I am hoping they will be moved to action after reading this review. I give them one more month and after that, I'm switching to somewhere else.

Some have food allergies and happily drop their kids off without sticking around. Some bring extra kids in tow. Did I order enough food? Can we keep them busy for 2 hours? (Can you tell I've been through the kid class party ringer?!) The Grit Ninja was an answer to a kid party prayer. My birthday boy had a blast jumping and acrobat-ing around with his buddies. You get the place to yourself, which makes the drop-off thing much easier and relaxed. The party assistants take care of everything. The food is included (just add cake & decorations) and the instructor (a real Ninja Warrior!) is awesome; such patience with a high energy brood! The kids climb, jump, do obstacle courses, swing and attempt the "Ring of Fire!" (No, it's not at all as scary as it sounds, Mom & Dad!) Looking forward to taking my dudes back for their classes too. They made her sit out the activities for more than an hour until they could "find" the waiver. When I accidentally called the Pleasantville location to ask what was going on, they -- a different location -- found it immediately. Clearly, had the Norwalk staff searched under her name they would have found it. When I spoke with the Norwalk manager, she kept reiterating that their system updates in "real time," which seems separate from the problem. While there might have been an issue with their system, I'm more concerned that they didn't simply look her up. Ironically, that lack of basic problem solving makes me suspect their ability to keep participants safe. They certainly didn't make an 11-year-old girl happy.
