The cabin is well appointed with everything you need and super clean. The daily breakfast is so delicious and the owners are open to dietary modifications if you need them. We stayed in The Roost cabin and ate on the back porch each morning. If you get up early you can have your coffee on the front porch while watching the deer. Or watch them while enjoying a glass of wine at dusk. I'm sure we'll be back as the cabins are close enough to Fredericksburg to see the sights but far enough in the country to give you time to slow down and enjoy the peace and quiet.

Steve and Glenda (the property owners) were AWESOME. So kind and welcoming from the minute we arrived. When we pulled up to our cabin and got out we were greeted by a friendly bunch of chickens, they actually ran up to greet us. :o) The cabin was picturesque... there was a screened in sitting area on the back porch with comfy rocking chairs and additional chairs and a beautiful covered front porch with rocking chairs and a chiminea. When we walked in the cabin looked just as it did in the pictures online. Beautifully decorated and very clean. A king sized bed in the main area with a small kitchen equipped with; microwave, small refrigerator (freezer had 2 ice trays and fridge had 4 waters), plates, wine glasses and opener, cups, coffee mugs, keurig (coffee, tea bags, creamer and sugar), dish washing soap, etc. The bathroom was the perfect size with a walk in shower (it was very clean). The loft upstairs was perfect, again very clean and super cute. It is a small space but perfect for climbing in for a good nights sleep. There was an oscillating fan in the loft which helped with the air circulation. Very cozy! Both beds were very comfortable. There was a flat screen smart TV in the main area, we were able to watch Netflix or regular television. The AC worked great. In the evening we sat on the front porch and had a fire in the chiminea. Steve and Glenda stopped us on our way in on our first night there and asked how we liked our eggs prepared, they also asked if we had any dietary restrictions. They told us that they would deliver our breakfast to our door the next morning between 8:30am-9am. The next morning they were right on time and did not disappoint. A beautiful display (see picture)... fresh eggs, bacon, breakfast potatoes, homemade biscuits, homemade apple butter (to die for), fresh squeezed orange juice. It was a WONDERFUL, down to each little detail. The next morning we had another great breakfast... fresh eggs, sausage links, french toast w/ strawberries and bananas, walnuts and more fresh squeezed orange juice. Glenda also made us a sweet treat (individual chocolate lava cakes) that Steve delivered to us on Saturday afternoon. YUM! We had a memorable weekend in Fredericksburg... a wonderful place to stay, a great wine tour (290 Wine Shuttle), good food and laughs. I will come back and stay at this beautiful place again. My boys (ages 12 and 9) loved the cabin's loft, having a campfire both nights, and "just everything Mom." After several days in hotels (nice ones too) we were pleasantly surprised at how clean and well-furnished the cabin was and how wonderful the owner Beverly was. Guests are free to come and go as they please and there is no lengthy check-in process, which is really nice after nearly a week. We felt at home immediately and have shared many pictures with friends and family, who were impressed. We seem to accidentally be making Texas road trips our Spring Break tradition, so it seems we will also be making Agarita Creek Farms our tradition as well! UPDATED REVIEW: March 2020... Do not book through their website or another like hotels.com without first calling the hotel's phone number at (830) 997-3330 and confirming with someone they are back open and accepting reservations! What an awful experience it would be to arrive and find you have no place to stay! As I said, we have lovely memories of coming here. My husband and I first visited in the summer of 2002 and last visited in the winter of 2010. We stayed there a few times and our families stayed there once while we were planning our wedding in the area. It's an extremely reasonable price, just on the outskirts of town so you can avoid a lot of tourist traffic and still get around, clean, quaint and best of all, they are pet friendly! It's the best way to keep cost of a visit to the area down, while still staying in a safe and clean area. However, I have to dock a star (would've been 2 but I decided on 1 in case it was out of managements control due to health issues) because of the poor communication that is affecting others. We were in Fredericksburg for our anniversary at the end of August 2020. We were driving around, nostalgically stopping at places we used to visit and pulled in here. The place reflects they've been closed for months, especially with the covered pool and the gazebo that needs a power washing. It was sad to see, but not as sad as going to google to find out if it was a permanent or temporary closure and finding that there were several reviews of people booking rooms and showing up to a closed location! Unacceptable! Your website should reflect the closure on the first page and hopefully an ETA for reopening, but at least a message about the closure- those poor would be guests! I genuinely hope they reopen again in the future and if they do, they are worth a visit because Fredericksburg has continued to increase prices at all other accommodations, including RV parks, restaurants and shops and this is really the best way to reduce the cost of your trip.

I don't know about you, but I'd rather not stay in a hotel room all weekend since that doesn't feel better than staying home. That's what led us to The Gathering. We came upon their listing via a post on Instagram about interesting places to stay around Austin, or within a short drive. I fell in love with the decor and the privacy! The Gathering is a collection of cottages or houses that each have their own style and although the houses are close to each other, they share no common walls, and each has a private outdoor area, and hot tub, in addition to delightful homey touches. There is a kitchenette for meals, but no stove or oven, but we found November the perfect time to make sausage dogs over the fire pit. We toasted s'mores and sipped champagne, spent time relaxing in the hot tub, and even rinsed off in the outdoor shower. By the time our stay was up, we were both wishing we had booked more nights! We stayed at the Hideaway house, which is the farthest property from the street and really enjoyed how alone we felt despite the adjacent houses also having guests. We enjoyed a game of basketball on the court across from our cottage and gathered pecans from the huge trees for a mid day snack. Deer were seen scampering across the back meadow and the gentle baas from the sheep nearby added to the bucolic scene. The only negative for me was that I found the mattress to be a bit firm for my tastes, but since that is purely a personal preference, I would not deduct stars for it. Check in was easy, we had no problems getting in. Property managers are communicative if you need anything but also give you complete privacy if you wish. There is free uncovered parking, park on the quiet street out front and there's a small, short path that leads you to all the different properties. The area is off the main streets of town to afford you comfort and quiet, but also close enough to get to everything easily via a short car or bike ride. I appreciated all the little modern, homey details of this place. A couple things of note: Wifi is very spotty so don't count on that if you need it for anything. It wasn't a big deal to us because we were there to relax and disconnect anyway. Not sure if it had anything to do with the Hideaway being the last property farthest from the entrance. If you want to use the fire pit, bring your own fire wood. Though there is a starter log provided and a gas fireplace available. Lots of shampoo and body wash provided but bring your own conditioner if you wish - only a hotel size tube available in the bathroom. Walgreens and HEB/Walmart are very close by if you need anything! Overall we really enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay again.

Aaron and Nathan both helped to show us a great time. Our weekend flew by - filled with hunting and horseback adventures. The day before, we got a phone call asking if we'd like to "upgrade" to a cabin, because the people staying in the room we reserved, wanted to stay an extra night. We had the option to say no, but one of the selling points to "upgrading" was the porch overlooking the nearly 3acres, so we said yes. The owner/host was very friendly and even left us a complimentary wine stating ticket, but we weren't pleased with the actual cabin. While we could have sat on the porch, the scenery wasn't really anything and if the RV sites would have been rented, we would have been looking at those. Also, the room had lots of bugs. I get we are in the hill country, but the seal at the top of the door was messed up, which allowed more bugs in. Our bed had a few on it, when we removed the covers (posted in the pictures) and there were dead bugs in the bathroom. Also, the room didn't stay cool enough at night and the TV was so small, it was hard to see and hear, even if you turned up the volume. Overall, I felt the cabin wasn't very clean and the shower curtain was also a huge icky point. For sanitary reasons, I'd suggest upgrading to a glass shower door.

The grounds are well-maintained, and there are multiple lovely meeting spots, including a renovated barn and a rooftop deck overlooking 290. Check in was clear, lots of extra coffee in the rooms and even champagne in the room for my wife's bday. The grounds are beautiful with rocking chairs on the porch for all cottages; hot tubs are clean, and hot. Nice central area with more chairs (perfect for eclipse viewing). Each cottage is unique but all have a frig, plates/bowls, silverware, OJ/milk/pastry every other day and many have their own hot tub. Location: just far enough from downtown crowds/noise but walking distance to everything. Beware, the two cottages by main street are noisy as big rigs drive though all night. King beds are very comfortable, many rooms with couch/living space, plenty of parking. The only thing we found difficult was what to do with all of our trash (pizza boxes, wine bottles, etc!). If we ever visit Fredericksburg again you know where we will be staying.

Upon first walking into the cabin, it had a strong odor of perfume or room spray. We had to air it out for an hour as the scent was heavy. We paid for a $90 dollar add on romance package. It included a standard bottle of an Oak Leaf Vineyard Chardonnay and a few Hershey's chocolates. This particular cabin included a loft. Our teen slept up there during our stay. It was fairly dusty and the floor wasn't clean. The cabin is fine if you plan on constant and consistent excursions in nearby Fredericksburg or local wineries. The cabin itself is charming but it could really use a deep cleaning. My allergies were triggered due to the dust inside. The first night we stayed, I turned down the bed and there was hair on the sheets that didn't belong to me or my spouse. Also, a previous guest left a claw clip on the floor next to the bed. Morning breakfast was no frills but much appreciated. Assorted yoghurts, bread, meats, cheese, boiled eggs, a few grape tomatoes and some fresh berries were delivered to the cabin at 8 am every morning. Internet is made available to guests but the signal was poor where we were at. We were unable to get online via WiFi and had to leave a bit away to get a good cellular signal. FYI, Verizon is terrible in this location. The kitchen has a mini refrigerator, microwave, toaster and coffee maker. Those are nice conveniences. One of the owners works at Der Lindenbaum and recommended it. The food is good German fare. Fredericksburg has several German restaurants to choose from. What is interesting to note is that right now the majority of our state is in a drought. So the grounds here were sandlike/dusty or have dried out grass. There is an area outside the cabins that has a small fire pit with chairs circled around. We didn't utilize that as we were exhausted by the time we got back from being out all day. Overall, if you like fairy tale themes and privacy, this is a place to consider. It is tucked into a neighborhood; the neighbors are spread far apart and it's a quiet area.
