The lady at the checkin building was wonderful! She was very accommodating and put us on the first floor so I didn't have to climb stairs (back surgery in Dec). We stayed in room 4. Upon opening the door, I fell in love! This beautiful room was decorated with antique furniture and just felt cozy! The bed was so comfortable that I got the best nights sleep I've had in over 10 days! The shower was huge and the best water pressure! There is body soap, shampoo and conditioner provided that is made locally at their herb farm. I wanted to purchase from the office, but we were running short of time, so I'll be ordering online! There are robes for your use, that were soft and comfortable! I want one of those too! There is a keurig, microwave and a small refrigerator with a freezer. There is also 4 bottles of local wine on the counter, champagne and beer in the fridge and chips for purchase (mini bar). The room was quiet all night. This place isn't huge, so I felt like we were lucky to get a room here. We will be back in the spring so we can enjoy the beautiful porch area. This morning, we had a wonderful breakfast delivered in a basket! It was delicious! My only suggestion would be to add a boiled egg or sausage patty to have a little more protein with breakfast. I don't know about you, but I'd rather not stay in a hotel room all weekend since that doesn't feel better than staying home. That's what led us to The Gathering. We came upon their listing via a post on Instagram about interesting places to stay around Austin, or within a short drive. I fell in love with the decor and the privacy! The Gathering is a collection of cottages or houses that each have their own style and although the houses are close to each other, they share no common walls, and each has a private outdoor area, and hot tub, in addition to delightful homey touches. There is a kitchenette for meals, but no stove or oven, but we found November the perfect time to make sausage dogs over the fire pit. We toasted s'mores and sipped champagne, spent time relaxing in the hot tub, and even rinsed off in the outdoor shower. By the time our stay was up, we were both wishing we had booked more nights! We stayed at the Hideaway house, which is the farthest property from the street and really enjoyed how alone we felt despite the adjacent houses also having guests. We enjoyed a game of basketball on the court across from our cottage and gathered pecans from the huge trees for a mid day snack. Deer were seen scampering across the back meadow and the gentle baas from the sheep nearby added to the bucolic scene. The only negative for me was that I found the mattress to be a bit firm for my tastes, but since that is purely a personal preference, I would not deduct stars for it. We will definitely book another stay, soon! Thanks for the Texas hospitality!

Check in was easy, we had no problems getting in. Property managers are communicative if you need anything but also give you complete privacy if you wish. There is free uncovered parking, park on the quiet street out front and there's a small, short path that leads you to all the different properties. The area is off the main streets of town to afford you comfort and quiet, but also close enough to get to everything easily via a short car or bike ride. I appreciated all the little modern, homey details of this place. A couple things of note: Wifi is very spotty so don't count on that if you need it for anything. It wasn't a big deal to us because we were there to relax and disconnect anyway. Not sure if it had anything to do with the Hideaway being the last property farthest from the entrance. If you want to use the fire pit, bring your own fire wood. Though there is a starter log provided and a gas fireplace available. Lots of shampoo and body wash provided but bring your own conditioner if you wish - only a hotel size tube available in the bathroom. Walgreens and HEB/Walmart are very close by if you need anything! Overall we really enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay again.

Our cottage, the Tritch, had two separate bedrooms, and I appreciated the privacy and spaciousness it offered. The cottage came fully stocked with everything to cook on site, but the location is close enough to both Johnson City downtown and Hye, if you prefer to dine out, shop, or hit the wineries. The owners went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. They really thought of all of the little details, including providing fresh chicken eggs(!!), popcorn, ice cream, oatmeal, granola bars, and coffee and tea. There was a communal fire pit, which we enjoyed using at night, and an enclosed puppy park area for pet owners. They also have a beautiful event venue near the front of the property, if you are looking to celebrate something with our without on site lodging. There was an outdoor sitting area just outside of our cottage, where I was able to enjoy my morning beverage in nature. Last but not least, they included free wine tasting certificates in the cottage as an added bonus, score! The feel at Wrenwood Ranch is warm and welcoming, but the separate cottages give you as much privacy as you want. We went into Johnson City and Hye a few times over the course of the weekend, and we were never bored. Wrenwood Ranch is a hidden gem and a great value when you consider all of the extras they provide. We hope to come back and to send our friends your way!

It's just gorgeous, take my word. The only negative is that it must have been ages since anyone had used the jets in the tub - because the first night they kicked out a bunch of black goo :( And, there is a drain in the tub getting a bit worse for wear. But, it fits two large people and was very comfy :) One great thing about the stone floors is they are slip-proof. The main room is also lovely, very spacious, with two comfy armchairs for relaxing in and a comfortable king sized bed. I loved the colors and textures on the walls and floor. My only minor quibble here is that the upholstery and bedspread were looking a bit worn -- I know this is a 'period' cabin so I like the antique wood and brass furniture -- but when it comes to fabrics...I like them newer. Call me spoiled. That said, this place was lovely and we very much enjoyed the peace, quiet, privacy. The only reason I'm not rounding up to five stars is expectations others would have from a "five star" residence which is a bit more 'luxury' than 'antique' - though this was an experience I would not have traded away for a five star modern suite somewhere. Oh yeah - they have wifi included. Sometimes it was a little weak, but it mostly worked and got the job done (since some of us can't ever be 100% disconnected from our jobs, boo!) I liked that our cabin did not have a television, though some people might have an issue with that... but with a two person hot tub I would hope you could find something better to do!

Outdoor courtyard could fit 50 people, or, in our case, 2. We had drinks there in the evening and coffee in the morning. There's a lovely hammock. It's walking distance to many restaurants, bars, and music venues. The only thing that was a little odd, but sort of quaint at the same time was the fact that when the wind blows in the fall, and the pecans fall on the roof, it's very loud because it's a tin roof. I would definitely stay here again and recommend to anyone. (Note: when searching for a b and b in Frederickburg, be aware that there are over 300 to choose from and many of them have heart-shaped hot tubs and super tacky pink quilts on teh beds. This is much more tasteful than the ones we saw after an hour of research. Also, many of them require two-night stays and this one allows a one-night stay both during the week and on the weekend.)

I was mainly visiting Fredericksburg to be close to Enchanted Rock State Park where I was going at night to photograph stars and other celestial objects. First of all, the motel reminds me of the ones I stayed in as a kid back in the 60's which I think were referred to as motor courts. The layout is simple, 3 long buildings, each with individual rooms, I was in Room #2. Parking was perfect for me as I parked right in front of my room's door. When you have to drag a lot of heavy photography gear in and out of the car and room, being so close is perfect. No elevator to ride and long walk to a parking lot. The room was sparkling clean, I think it might have been painted recently and the decor had a western feel with a cow skin on the floor and a Mexican serape bed cover. Speaking of the bed, it was super comfy and so were the pillows. The room had a small table and 2 comfortable chairs, the table was perfect for my laptop to use for editing my images and checking email and such. There were night stands on either side of the bed and a TV on the wall, although I never turned it on. The bathroom was great, clean and modern fixtures. It had a tub/shower, toilet and sink. The room had a kitchenette, a small counter with a nice sink and a coffee maker, a microwave was just above on the shelf. I found the 2 burner glass top stove which was stored under the sink and it worked fine for scrambling some eggs for breakfast. The fridge was small but enough room for what I needed, freezer needed to be defrosted but I kept my reusable ice pack frozen for my trip home. The only negative thing I could say is that while they did provide some plates, bowls, silverware and kitchen cooking utensils, at first there were no pots or pans. I called the main number and soon a lady delivered 2 frying pans. Sadly, they were in pretty bad shape, non stick or Teflon was all scratched up. I ended up just going to Walmart and buying a pan for $5. I would recommend the owners get some better cooking necessities like a pan and a pot. Also a roll of paper towels would be better than the Terri cloth hand towel they provided. And most importantly, the AC unit was great and kept my room really cold, even with 100 degree temps just outside. It looked clean, no signs of mold or mildew as some other reviewers noted. If I am returning to Fredericksburg, I will stay here for sure!

Check in was clear, lots of extra coffee in the rooms and even champagne in the room for my wife's bday. The grounds are beautiful with rocking chairs on the porch for all cottages; hot tubs are clean, and hot. Nice central area with more chairs (perfect for eclipse viewing). Each cottage is unique but all have a frig, plates/bowls, silverware, OJ/milk/pastry every other day and many have their own hot tub. Location: just far enough from downtown crowds/noise but walking distance to everything. Beware, the two cottages by main street are noisy as big rigs drive though all night. King beds are very comfortable, many rooms with couch/living space, plenty of parking. The only thing we found difficult was what to do with all of our trash (pizza boxes, wine bottles, etc!). If we ever visit Fredericksburg again you know where we will be staying.
