The place is no longer open. Has been closed since 2019. The flood took it out. They never rebuilt.

Level site, its gravel and we prefer concrete but that's a small thing. Seems very well run, we only stayed the night so we didn't use any facilities, so I cant comment on that.

That being said, the day we were to arrive we got a phone call from "Cindy" who told us her allergies were bothering her and she will not be in the office when we arrive. Cindy instructed us to get a map out of the box next to the office door and look at a yellow paper that would give us our spot number and instructions. We got our map and finally found the yellow paper which was a Post-it note on the inside of the glass of the office door (it was very hard to read through the glass of the door). We saw that we were in what we thought was site number 72 (in hindsight, Cindy had written 2 guests on one paper and we were to be in site 70 and they were to be in site 72). Thinking we should be in site 72, we pulled into site 72 and got set up. A few minutes after we arrived, we got a phone call from Cindy and a knock on the door from a gentleman driving a golf cart. They both proceeded to tell us that we were in the wrong site. Cindy told me on the phone that we were in the wrong spot and that she "had" to move the people that belong there because they were very long. She made it sound like we had made the worst mistake in the world and that she had to go to a lot of trouble to fix our mistake. Cindy proceeded to tell me that the site we were in was $15 more because it was longer than the one next to us that we were supposed to be in (my husband measured it and the site we were in was 12 inches longer than the site we should've been in). When we realized we had made the mistake, we were already feeling bad enough, but for them to make us feel like we had made the worst mistake in the whole world, that was a horrible feeling ... the way they came off to us was really bad. If we had been told nicely that we had made a mistake and given the opportunity to move to where we should've been or pay the $15 to stay where we were that would've been a lot better. As it was, they just got the other guy another site and charged me $15 extra. I'm a pretty reasonable person, but this was a horrible experience. I have been in customer service for over 25 years and I would never think of talking to the customer like she talked to me.

We had cabin #4 which at one time was part of a Girl Scout camp that got added to the existing park in the Loess Hills. For $60 a night we rented a two bedroom cabin. We could also bring our dogs. It didn't have running water or a bathroom but conveniently, a vault latrine and outdoor water pump were in close proximity. A regular bathroom with showers was a short walk away. There were two sets of bunk beds in one room and a full-sized bed in the other. Renters must provide their own bedding, pillows, towels, toiletry items, cooking utensils, pots and pans, and dinnerware. With a microwave and coffeemaker but no other appliances, some cooking was done outdoors. It did have a couch, a couple of chairs and a dinette set, as well as a picnic table outside. Waubonsie is a hikers paradise with lots of trails including equestrian trails and camping. If you're into fishing, Lake Virginia is 7 acres with largemouth bass, bluegill and channel cat. You can launch your boat (electric motor only) or peacefully canoe. Waubonsie is not for you if you like an action-filled vacation. It's a beautiful, quiet and peaceful retreat from stressful living. Not surprisingly, do watch out for ticks in the spring.

Also has camper spaces. It doesn't get the traffic like big camp grounds in my experience so it's more peaceful and costs significantly less- only $8 for primitive camping ($5 more for vehicle permit if you don't have state park pass). When I was there in May I had the whole camp ground to myself save one other camper on the edge of the park. Camping is self-sign up with slips around park. Has fire pits and wonderful lake with tons of birds and avian wildlife to see and listen too. Hundreds of baby geese. Good fishing and local Dons Bar is the only food stop in Memphis so don't be afraid go on in and try a cheeseburger or fish- the bartenders super friendly-Also get fire wood there too. It isn't a far drive from Omaha- 35minutes if there's no road construction and is better than most campsites in platte or Mahoney. Take a trip there it's worth it!
