Context: I went in as a white passing able-bodied femme in distress looking for medication support. I had been off my psych meds for about 2 weeks and was experiencing dangerous behaviors. While I was not actively suicidal, I was experiencing passive sucididal thoughts. I was not experiencing any hallucinations. I was there for a few hours, and was able to get some medication support to tide me over until my next psychiatry appointment. I was clearly in distress when I arrived due to nerves, security and front desk staff were patient and neutral, and were able to ask me questions calmly when it was clear I wasn't able to effectively communicate and needed extra guidance. Folks who took me back were calm and answered my questions when my personals were taken. I went on a day with very minimal wait time and was able to be seen quickly. I observed lovely compassionate care of other patients while I waited, staff asking patients questions were very affirming and explained to the patient why they asked specific questions. My nurse asked me the standard questions you'd expect and was patient. When I froze on answering a question she clarified that there was zero judgment. While I was waiting and while I was being seen multiple times care providers praised patients on coming in and reassured the patient. The social care worker and psychiatrsit I was seen by were lovely and helped break the ice. None of my items were missing or broken when I left.

Nichole, on the other hand, has been the first psychiatrist who did not make me feel like I was being judged or analyzed in a negative perspective. She treated me with dignity and offered more advice in one appointment than I've gotten in 2 years of trying to get help. Most importantly, she offered me non-RX resources to manage my life, get better at time management, balance hormones, and just learn to be the best version of myself. I am paying out of pocket, but I will continue to do so as long as is needed because she is just worth every penny!

She was unable to ID my autism and 5mos into my year with her I self-diagnosed, but she had no knowledge of how to adjust the meds I had been on from my previous psych's misdiagnoses for my new accurate diagnosis, sometime in there she stopped offering therapy sessions with no notice (was simply absent from the portal options one day) and now only offers 30min med checks, none of her referrals to adjunct providers were accessible to me as autistic which caused traumatic experiences and meltdowns after every one of those intake appt attempts, she had no decent resources ready to offer autistic adults with very late life diagnosis, and our therapeutic alliance broke down tomy loss of trust and I left, because no care is better than repeated trauma and no real support and an online portal that was so complicated for me I could never quite use it properly due to its configuration and rules not making sense to me. After you send 3 messages to her, with character limits, you are locked out of being able to contact her. I had to book an appointment just to write in the message field that I was leaving her practice and she could bill me for the message/appointment since that's what her message cap is all about, but that I would not be attending it because all I wanted to do was tell her I quit her services, which are few and not adequate if you have autism spectrum conditions. What a nightmare year while I had long COVID and next to no support. If all you need is a PMHNP to continue prescribing the same old meds and you don't need help with new developments requiring more from her, then she is a sharp provider and efficient and pleasant. If you need more, go to someone who offers more than upkeep of an old plan.
