Overall, I great place to snab a hard-to-find wine. I go here once and awhile when I want something special. They have a lot of hard to find Napa Valley wines and as another poster noted this is definintely more California than Virginia. (A plus!) For me, convenience and location can't be beat as well. The downside: I find their prices to be much higher than others in the area. Usually, I find myself driving 15 minutes out to Wegman's where the selection is almost as good as here (Wegman's has alot of unique and hard-to-find bottles too!) and I know I'm getting the most for my money. read more

I've found that the Wine Cabinet always has the hard to find wines and craft beers that I can't find anywhere else (I'm looking at you Total Wine). The prices are good and the staff are very friendly and helpful. You can even call ahead and ask to have items held for you if you are in a rush or if they are starting to run low in stock. Also, they have regular tastings and new release events in-store, which is a plus. read more

I call John today as I needed an urgent wine delivery. My brother-in-law just passed away and my mother-in-law was having to fill out about 1000 forms. Nothing a grieving mother should ever have to do. To brighten her day just a bit I decided she need some wine delivered I mean who wouldn't? I called several places, looked up several delivery companies etc. to no avail. I came across the wine cabinet in my search. I called and John was not only incredibly helpful, kind and a joy to talk to you but he even went out of his way to include some straws in the delivery. The straws of course being a small humorous joke that would add a smile to my mother-in-law's face. Thank you John for saving the day! read more

So when i first walked into the store, there was a lady there that was not really friendly at all. I mean i understand you just opened, but i was actually on a mission to find some awesome wine. She profiled me and did that thing where she assumed i wasn't going to be a potential long-term customer because i didn't look like a snobby rich girl. Well, joke's on you, rude sales associate! I actually love wine!!! I ended up buying a nice bottle of $20 wine with a $10 beer. I'm not a big baller that can afford like $50 bottles every visit, but i'll buy 2-3 bottles of moderately priced wine over the span of a week. But nope, that lady will be getting no credit from my purchases since the gentleman who is the manager of the store was much nicer and so helpful! Even told me about the membership (which is super neat!). Basically, once you make your first purchase with them, they save your id in their system and it will record every wine you ever buy from there in case you have a memory of a goldfish like me, and you need to remember the name of that one wine you got that one time that was lip smackingly delicious. And the wine tastings they have every weekend are always so tasteful, and they host wines from a different country every week. If you love wine and you get overwhelmed at Total Wines, check this little shop out. It's a wonderful place for wine. :) read more

The selection of wines is always great; the individuals working there are very knowledgeable and are always willing to make good recommendations for good wines. I was recommended the most sinful, decadent, opulent wine (a Barolo) that I have tasted in the last decade: Giulia Negri La Tartufaia. A fantastic example of Nebbiolo, aged to perfection and ready to quaff, even as a relatively young 2010. Tannic structure is sublime. Kudos to this fantastic establishment - I can hardly wait to enjoy the Bordeaux from the Pomerol Deuxièmes Cru, Chateau Chateau La Fleur des Ormes, that they also recommended. read more

I walked in today looking for help picking out a rose for Easter dinner. The owner was busy with a woman making a large purchase, however he looked right past me - twice - after he had finished helping the other customer. This was after me standing around looking like a doof for about 10 minutes. I live less than a mile away and would love to patronize this place but no way after today. I went to the Giant next door where a Yellow Tail distributor helped me enormously. Good wines, high prices, snotty staff. You can do better. read more

Lousy customer service. A store full of wine snobs wouldn't give me any help on my purchase. I went in prepared to buy (even carrying a wine bag!) and couldn't get any assistance. Meanwhile, the various unoccupied staff looked right past me as other customers walked in the door. I'll take my business elsewhere. read more

Hate to admit it, but I kinda agree with Agnes' review below I am your typical Restonian...good salary, good kids, good life. However, I have noticed that depending on who is in the store when I walk in will determine the level of service I receive. There is one lady who always helps me select a pretty awesome cheese and knows one of the wines I like to take to my monthly Girl's Nite Out. She typically grabs that one first However, when I went in last week, she wasn't there. I did get the distinct feeling that they could have cared less about me and my purchases. When I walked up to the counter to purchase 6 bottles, the lady behind the counter didn't even ask for my phone number to record my purchases. When I gave it to her and she was able to see how much money I spend in their store, she seemed to step her service up. But she tried to stuff all of my bottles into one bag and tried to play dumb when I asked for cardboard to support the bags. I mean, I'm under 5 feet tall, these bottles are heavy and I just spent over $100 in your shop...give me the good bags meanie! Another guy walked over and rebagged my purchases. I have decided to give some of the other local shops I have heard about a chance. It's worth the drive to me for good service. read more

This place is incredible! The service is great as they are always willing to special order any of your favorite wines. The also have great recommendations and product knowledge. We are regular customers there because they always go out of their way to special order our favorite wine Shot Fire shiraz and The Great White beer (which they recommended to us...now our favorite). They also have such a large collection of all types of wine and even enjoy their weekend wine tastings. Walking into this store gives us the same feeling as a child walking into Toys R US. I emailed several local wine shops to find a special wine for my husband for our anniversary and they called me within 30 minutes and said that they had a distributor for it and would call me back to see if they could actually get it. Wow! What an amazing shop and such kind, genuine people working here. I came in on a Friday evening and was pleasantly surprised to learn that they have free tastings of wine and beer on Friday evenings, as well as tastings on Thursday evenings and Saturday afternoon. Every single week! The store was busy with families, kids, even a dog ... I felt so welcomed into this community right away! Everyone was smiling and relaxed and several of their employees asked if I needed help. I ended up talking with Mike (the owner) and his son Dave (the "Berman") and got great, delicious recommendations for wine and beer. They have a pretty impressive craft beer selection and it sounds like new stuff comes in every week. They clearly have "regulars" that come in every week for the tastings... I want to become a regular too! Seriously, skip Total Wine or the grocery store wine and head straight to them for wine and beer and a fun Friday evening activity! read more
