a m Very nice and cozy. Probably only be able the squeeze 15 people in there max, so with the 6 employees hanging around in there; that makes only 8 of us (the customers). They have a really nice selection of South African Wine - the Pinotage had a price on it that will definitely lure me back. They don't sell any mixes, or any Sodas.

This is my mecca, my haven, my place of sanctuary, for all that is good in the world of beer. It's a very unassuming, unpretentious place to meet your worldly desires through the realm of libations, and once you come once you will always want to return. Norm's is not big compared to many of the other beer and wine shops in DC, but somehow they always manage to score the hardest to find beers on the market. I can't speak to their wine selection, as it seems pretty sparse, and heavily focused on value wines, so I've never really seen anything to splurge on, but the beers available here have not been surpassed by anywhere else I've seen in the metro area. I just picked up my newest treat from Norm's, a 3Liter of Stone Double Bastard Ale (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/7BfS_m3R2SeW-m1vF99gZw?select=pTA8c-wZAqHxiSv-Bt-2-w). My husband and I honestly took forever browsing and reading labels. The store manager was incredibly patient with us, even though we probably stayed way too long talking about the cheeses we wanted to try and reading through their recommended pairings pamphlet. She was so knowledgeable and helpful with all of our questions, and even mentioned that they could specialty order anything that might be out of stock for us. Because you can buy their cheese by the 1/4lb, we ended up mixing and matching a selection of five different cheeses and a few cured meats to sample. Everything was absolutely delicious, and they have some really unique flavors available. The wild ramp alpine cheddar was so different to anything I had before, and the truffle manchego cheese was completely packed with so much truffle. The shop is currently celebrating their 10 year anniversary, and I can absolutely see why. Between the incredibly friendly, helpful service and a thoughtfully curated selection of artisanal goods, it's no surprise this business is thriving. This will definitely be my new go-to spot for gifts!

We started with the scallops and then had the gnocchi and pesto pasta. Everything tasted incredibly fresh, and you could really tell that it was house-made. As soon as we entered, General Manager Sam welcomed us like old friends. After we were seated, my wife asked if he had previously worked at The Dabney, and sure enough, that's where we recognized him from. It was great catching up as he shared what he'd been doing since then and how his dream had always been to open his own restaurant. Seeing that dream come to life made the evening feel even more special. The restaurant was busy (definitely make reservations), but we were able to enjoy cocktails while we waited for our table. My Grey Goose martini with bleu cheese olives was phenomenal and set the tone for the rest of the meal. We started with the Bison Tartare and the Ceviche. The bison tartare was leaner than traditional beef tartare, and the crispy chips added the perfect savory crunch. The ceviche was incredibly fresh and bright. For our entrées, I had the ribeye while my wife ordered the Dory. The ribeye was cooked perfectly--juicy, tender, and packed with flavor. My wife couldn't stop talking about how buttery and delicious the fish was. To finish the evening, we ordered the 100-Year Port Flight featuring 10-, 20-, 30-, and 40-year ports. Vertical tastings are such a fun way to experience how a wine evolves over time. The 40-year was absolutely outstanding, and the 20-year was another favorite. The 10-year was enjoyable but still showed its youthful character compared to the older vintages. The atmosphere strikes a nice balance between upscale and relaxed. The main dining room can feel a little tight when the restaurant is full, while the bar area has a few TVs for anyone wanting to catch a game. One thoughtful touch that stood out was the women's restroom being stocked with amenities like hair ties and hair clips. We noticed they also offer a tasting menu, and after this experience, that's already on our list for our next visit. Between the outstanding hospitality, exceptional food, excellent cocktails, and welcoming atmosphere, Evelyn Rose absolutely earned five stars.
