They do not up charge the singles and in fact if you buy 6 singles you get 10 percent off all of them! They have a wonderful selection of hard to find bottles. This past Friday, one of Norm's staff members, Liz, was an absolute gem at helping me pick out a reasonably-priced wine to accompany my end-of-the-week pizza (mmm!) and also hooked it up with an awesome wine tasting. This is my mecca, my haven, my place of sanctuary, for all that is good in the world of beer. It's a very unassuming, unpretentious place to meet your worldly desires through the realm of libations, and once you come once you will always want to return. Four and a half stars. A quality craft beer selection like this should really be the Norm. (Couldn't resist!) Plentiful shared parking in the plaza lot of which Norm's occupies the corner. Friendly guys behind the counter were happy to talk shop as needed. Fair representation of regional breweries and out-of-state fan favorites, choices for conservative palates as well as adventurous ones. I was briefly distracted by the teaser bottles stored on top of the far right shelf... everyone wants to give a nod to PtE. Nice touch with the sale bin by the register and additional markdowns on brews approaching / just past the drink-by date. The beer tasting being offered was enlightening, just not to my personal preference. I only meant to browse and buy maybe one bottle, but ended up filling a basket with 9 beers that I haven't found at my local stores-- one rarity of which I was particularly stoked to nab the last bottle. The 10% discount for six or more singles certainly came in handy! They partitioned a box for me to load my haul away with, and sent me on my way with more pleasantries. Between the combined gravitational pull of great variety and fair prices, I'll definitely make this as regular a pit stop as Total Wine. read more

Excellent selection of craft beers! I've seen brews from Stone, Avery, Dogfish Head, Great Divide, Rogue, Southern Tier, Starr Hill, Green Flash, Troegs, Bells, Oskar Blues, and so many more breweries. I tend to lean towards IPAs. There is an area with cases (you can also make your own case by mixing 6 packs, I think), various sized packs of bottles and cans, and singles (which you can mix for your own 6 pack). There is also a refrigerated area in the back. I love that they've had Stone Ruination (my favorite) in 6 packs each time that I've gone. My regular store in Rockville usually only carries bombers (650ml bottles) which can be a little too much to commit to when you want a quick, tasty beverage. The location is great for me since I regularly have lunch at Sweet Ginger in the same shopping center and it is really close to my office. They have always been very friendly at Norm's. read more

Went there today and they are being very diligent about Covid 19 restrictions (face masks, limiting number of customers inside, etc). We called ahead to check on what we wanted. When we arrived they brought our order to the car and took our payment. I didn't even have to get out of my car! This is a wonderful neighborhood store. Fun even for me, a girlie girl of a beer drinker if ever there was one, but here, with an educated and helpful staff, it is possible to find a pleasing and delicious beer that's not thick, brown and stouty. Sure, it's spendy, but here, I think the thing is to drink less but drink better. There is also something to be said for beer education, an under-rated subject if ever there was one, not among beer aficionados and connoisseurs, but among beer luddites such as myself. I may have died and gone to beer heaven. Seriously the stick if craft brews this place has is mesmerizing, most of this awesome store is beer with a good amount and variety of wines too but really this place is about your local beermonger bringing the best to his neighborhood. The store is located literally in the corner of this L shaped shopping plaza and from outside you think it's just a hole in the wall, then you step in and you realize it's huge and with shelves and shelves of specialty and limited release craft brews. The entire back wall is lined with beer fridges chock full of 6 packs. Yes and it gets better, they even offer make your own 6 packs which then gets you a beautiful 10% discount on your single beers in your order! And they actually have great stock to choose from, this ain't no run of the mill giant! Gosh! I was in awe and overwhelmed by the amount if beers and even the excellent pricing. I did see some things for a little more than bigger chain stores but at the same time this place is about as locally owned as a beer shop can get. The wine section at the front seemed to have quite a few nice things but all my attention was spent on the beer and I think they cater to the beer lovers more anyways. :) This place will be a new spot for me to keep an eye on for my hard to find stuff. read more

Selection and Price - 4.5 stars Singles selection - 3 stars I stopped into Norm's and was surprised to find just a great selection of both cases and six packs of some great beers. The staff was friendly and helpful and it turned out that Norm himself was the one who was at the register. The prices of the cases and six packs was quite competitive to Total Wine and definitely cheaper than any DC store, for good reason. Pros: -Good selection of six packs -Nice array of cold beer -Will order a kegs for you -Mix 6-pack and mix cases (of 4 six packs) - 10% discount -helpful staff Cons: -While the singles were plentiful, I found that the things i really wanted, were not in singles, making it pretty hard to fill out a mix 6-pack. -very annoying location off route 7, traffic is a pain..always All in all this place is nice and when im looking for various 6 packs or cases, this will get added to my list of go-to places. read more

Time: Rush hour :( Agenda: So very thirsty Overall: Nice selection, weird attendant Nestled between Blockbuster and a suspect Diamond seller is this little suburban gem. Having just moved here, it was important that I find a place like this to bide my time. They boast to offer 400+ varieties of domestic and imported beers, but I only cared to find Belgian styles and dopplebocks, which they of course had. I specifically went there looking for a 750ml La Fin Du Monde, but they only had 4-packs for $9.25. This place was less pricey than say.. Whole Foods, by about $1-2. Off the top of my head, they had Chimay, Stone, more Unibroue, and many others. I love it when stores have mostly non-refrigerated beer. They also sell singles, which can be made into 6-packs for a 10% discount. I would have loved it if I could get any of their beers as singles, but alas there are rules! They had what looked to be a broad wine selection (1/3 of the store), but I'm not much of a connoisseur. I have half a bottle of Merlot and want to take a nap. The staff seemed nice and helpful. Though one guy called me "boss" about 12 times, which is unnerving for the meek. I'll forgive him. I definitely like the vibe there. Very comfortable and browse-friendly. And a browsing you will need to do. I'll definitely continue to return here. read more

I love that there is a local wine shop that is very well stocked in the area. Their customer service is great. They will allow you to order any wine that they do not stock, and arrange for you to receive the wine the same week! How awesome is that? They also stock Chehalem 3 Vineyard Pinor Noir, which is difficult to find unless you're at the Calvert Woodley wine shop, but a good pinot for the price point. They also have Cloudy Bay and Kim Crawford sauvignon blancs always in stock, which are our go to white wines for the summer. They carry more popular wines from Cameron Hughes as well. I have dared to ask the staff to help me pull a case together (10% off for a case) of all new wines I haven't tried after I gave them feedback on my preferences, and helped me discover some new finds. As others have mentioned, they do try to post Wine Spectator ratings for a good number of wines, which is very helpful for those who do not regularly know what to buy. I also love their neighborhood feel and am pleased with their prices. Norm's is mostly in line with what you will find at a grocery store price wise - they're similar to the Safeway in Pan Am which is generally cheaper than the Vienna Giant. They accept all credit cards and have free swag such as matches, coasters, stickers, etc. I would urge everyone to support this local business, especially since they have exceptional service and great selection for a small store. I wanted to point out that when most of the DC metro area did not have electricity this year and were not open, Norm's was open!! They also have a wide variety of beer, but I'm not a beer expert, so I can't speak for anything except that they seem to have a lot of beers I have not seen before. This is a place where people want to drink and share their experiences about great beverages, not a place where they pretend that they're better than you are because they're sommeliers. read more

Norm's Beer and Wine carries cases of Genny Light. IN. THE. COOLER. Do I really need to say more? Okay, so not everyone enjoys Genny Light as much as my Dad does, but when he gives me twenty bucks and tells me to go get a case of beer for him, I know exactly where to go. The staff is super friendly (have you ever had to ASK for a case of Genny Light, WITH A STRAIGHT FACE?!) and the selection is impressive. The best part about Norm's? It's just a few stores down from Cenan's - a most excellent spot for sandwiches and Vienna's answer to "The Italian Store." So, if you are in the neighborhood, do yourself a favor and pick up a sammy and a case of beer for your Dad. read more

The only thing I miss about living in Vienna are the shops and restaurants we discovered. Is that wrong? Norm's is one of those little gems we never would have known about if it hadn't been for living in the Tyson's area. We popped in one afternoon to check it out, and we never looked back. The beer and wine selection here is top notch. They have every beer you could ever conceive of. The clincher? When I walked in and saw, nestled in the Australian beer section, Cooper's Pale Ale. I studied abroad in college in South Australia and drank my weight in Cooper's (way too often). It's is unique to SA, however, and rarely found outside the state, even in Australia. I spent 8 years tracking this white whale in the States to no avail, and had resigned myself to the fact that I would never again sample my beloved Aussie brew. I found that this area does not have Pabst Blue Ribbon (PBR) anywhere. After asking a few places and getting many bewildered looks, I finally went into this small shop. They had 12-packs for $4.99. Totally awesome. They have a HUGE selection of microbrews, also. Plus they have free coasters. Thank goodness for Norm's. I cut my drinking teeth in Maryland and New York, both of which have different alcohol-sales situations than Virginia. I am relieved to be able to have a personal interaction with a friendly staff when it comes to my beer purchases, as the stockers at Safeway don't necessarily have a breadth of recommendations. Definitely the best beer selection I've seen in this area. Coming from where microbrewed beer is like a religion, this is key. They have Saison Dupont, my fave belgian. They have what seemed to me to be a complete selection of Brooklyn beers also a fave. Also they sell many of their beers as single bottles rather than exclusively in six packs, so you can try something without the commitment. Also, there is construction on the side street (Branch St) and you can't turn left from 123, but you can just enter the strip mall parking lot directly from 123 before Branch St. read more

On the other hand, if you're down to drop regular price, there's no reason to go anywhere else. Norm' s is a beer haven in the area. Other places have craft beers nearby (Whole Foods, primarily) but I'd strongly recommend buying your beer from Norm's. It's actually owned and operated by a guy named "Norm". It's not run from a global headquarters office a thousand miles from the customers. Norm's carries all the best craft brews he can get his hands on. He's got a huge selection of East coast and West coast brews plus German, Belgian, Dutch, British, Irish, Mexican, South American, etc., etc. He's great at getting a large selection of seasonals in stock throughout the year. For a small store, Norm's has a very broad selection of wines, too. The quality is top notch and the prices run from inexpensive to pricey, so you can find what you're looking for. Norm introduced me to screw-top wines a couple of years ago. I think he was on the leading edge promoting these very tasty and very reasonably priced wines. Great variety to peruse, no matter what your tastes are. You can also find a good selections of champagnes, sparkling wines, ports, dessert wines, bar-type munchies (including Route 11 chips!) and chocolate.
