I read all the reviews for this place and thought that it was just people with bad experiences from years ago. I went in today and the workers were not on laptops listening to loud videos. They greeted me and were very friendly. I thought this place was great- it's been years since I visited this shop. This held true until I god home and attempted to remove the cork from my wine. The wine was corked!! All the reviews I read were right! The location and space were great. Workers were great, but corked wine from the cooler is terrible- and something I have never experienced in all my years of drinking. So disappointing. read more

we are new to Nashville and wine chap is close to Trader Joe's so it was convient. In my 40 years of drinking wine I have bought ALOT of wine but only two bottles that were corked / undrinkable. But the last year and a half I have two bottles and a box wine all undrinkable from Wine Chap - the last was a box wine that expired 4 years ago in 2019. Since there name has wine in it I guess I expected higher standards. Selling anybody a product that should have been trash 4 years prior speaks to theirs - or lack thereof. read more

One star for the location and the selection of some unique liquors. This place will always do well bc of the location and the wealthy clientele that shop there but every time I go in I leave hating myself for supporting a business that leaves me so frustrated. The young guys that work there are rude at best and actually seem hostile most of the time. I've never had them leave the counter area or stop watching their laptops to offer help or suggestions. Jazz music would be more preferable to shop to rather than loud TV on their laptop speakers. I can only assume they are related to the owner or the owner is too lazy to find better help. read more

I like The Wine Chap and buy most of my wine and cocktail makings there. The employees are always helpful to me and have recommended some great liquors that are reasonably priced. When I run out of wine, I have often asked the owner or another employee to put together a case for me. I tell them what I need and give them a price range. That has led me to some excellent wines. They have also supported various neighborhood and charitable fundraisers. I will agree with other reviewers that there seems to be a turnover, but I have always found someone willing to help and make recommendations. One advantage of being an old guy is my needs for a wide selection of hard liquor is pretty limited. "Brown water" for Manhattans, gin for a Martini, and Vodka for a V&T is about where I am these days. The Wine Chap works perfectly for me. read more

I called the store to ask whether it carried 2018 Caymus from a certain year and was told by some guy that they had plenty in stock. I got to the store 10 minutes later to buy that wine and the guy was literally watching the Simpsons. When I got his attention, he told me to check the specialty wine area, but none of the wine I had asked about was in stock. I went back to the counter and asked the guy if he had checked before telling me that the store carried 2018 Caymus, and he just said he assumed they had it in stock (aka, no, he did not check). I had driven to the store to check the specialty wine area so this guy could keep watching cartoons. Plus, the price he'd quoted for the wine they didn't have was ~$10 higher than anywhere else in town. Hopefully others have a better experience than mine at this store, but I definitely will not be giving this store my business going forward. read more

When it comes to buying liquor I am very picky about how I spend my money. I want what I need to get, be it for cooking or drinking, without sacrificeing quality or quantity. I expect the staff at the store to know their stuff and have a good selection of product. Finally, I expect reasonable prices for what I am getting. The Wine Chap is all this and more. Finally a liquor store in Nashville that is on par with Specs in Houston, Texas. They know their product and know it well. The selection is wide and varied, so I can find exactly what I need. The staff here really knows their stuff, even when their knowledge of a given item is limited. Moreover, they are always ready to help you find what you need and answer questions, no matter how many other customers are in the store. Also, while Tennessee still does have some regulations on liquor sales, the prices on the product are still reasonable and fair. From this point on, be it for Passover, parties or japanese cooking, this is the only liquor store I will go to as they truly are a cut above the rest. read more

I dig the name. I like the location (even if it's a wee bit hard to find; look for the Publix). I think there are some things to work on. The Wine Chap fits in well with Belle Meade. The name, product and location makes it easy to grab a bottle before a dinner party or on the way home after a long day. I'd been out running errands and decided I'd earned a bottle of wine so I looked to see what was nearby and stopped in. The store is on the smaller side but it's not a hole. Just know not to expect the sweeping aisles found in other wine stores in the metro. The wine is grouped by varietal and, then, by country of origin. It sounds straight-forward. In actuality, it's a bit of a mess. The groupings change abruptly and I found the browsing experience to be somewhere jarring. Once you find what you're looking for, you should find the selection to be satisfying. This was further complicated by the lack of customer service I experienced (more than once; shame on me) when looking for a bottle. Unfortunately, I am not the only yelper to pick up on the unwanted/bored/can't be bothered attitude of the staff. While it makes me feel better that my experiences were nothing personal, I can't claim that such an attitude is a good business practice. One more than one occasion, I've had a clerk just stare at me when I asked a question about the wine. I've never had someone walk me around, show me a bottle or explain the store to me. Strangely enough, though, I've been asked how everything was when I was checking out. Odd. The staff friendliness definitely varies. Since the store's called 'The Wine Chap,' expect wine. There's a small beer/cider/spirits section but you shouldn't come here in search of any of that. Let it be a nice surprise if you find a bottle of something you like. You also cannot make your ow six-pack at the store, so there's that. Remember, too, you're in Belle Meade: the price point per bottle has some significant markup. Being that I'm a well-trained wino, I noticed some bottles being anywhere from $3-$7 more than they should be (mid-priced bottles). One last comment: I was in the store during a tasting and you would have thought a celebrity was giving birth during a wardrobe malfunction the way the crowd ran (yes, ran) to the back to get a sip. I know TWC can't control their customers but it was off-putting. Maybe they were giving away bottles and not tastes? I suppose that's worth running for. read more

I Came iN to get som wine mostly but it was a hot day and i wanted some whole milk so i VARY politeley asked the elderly man working if you sold whole milk by the gallon and he said no. WHAT KIND OF WINE STORE DOESN't CARRY MILK i usually drink a gallon or two while i puruse the wime solection and it is a traversty that i can not shop in the manner that i have become accoustum. i will NEVER SHOP here again. 5 stars because the wine chap is the PERFECT name for a wine chap. i look forward to returning, of course with the mikl that i always keep in my car. read more

I'm not a wine chap, but this place might make me want to be. While technically its not JUST Wine, they have a stunningly good selection. It may not have as much floor space as Frugal MacDogal, they seem to have the personal touch well in hand. There is a wine tasting every Saturday, and there seemed to be plenty of helpful staff people around to assist you in your selection. Overall, highly recommended, and that's from a non-wine chap. read more

I found The Wine Chap when searching online for a specific bottle of wine, found only here in all of Nashville. Since my first visit, I have returned for this same reason. The employees at The Wine Chap are engaging, friendly and relatively knowledgeable. Every time I have visited, I have been greeted promptly, assisted when asked and find the layout of the store to be easily navigated though different wine styles and regions. The prices are average, which is completely acceptable. This isn't my #1 stop for wines in Nashville but it is the place I'll go to find something special that I might not otherwise find elsewhere. read more

Wine selection is good but seems to be over-priced. Hard liquor selection is very, very sparse. Staff is always turning over, I feel like I never see the same people twice. EXCEPT for an elderly man who is an asshole. I've had the displeasure of dealing with him a few times. After the last, never going back. Also, bottles are dusty as hell. Rotate those things (as a side note, I've been privy to more than one customer complaining about corked bottles). There are a few wine and spirit shops in this areas, use any one of those. Great wine shop with outstanding customer service! Broad knowledge of wine and liquor and really good selection. I'm a scotch drinker and these guys just continue to get things in that I want to try. My wife does a lot of their wine tastings, and they've developed a small group of regulars who enjoy getting together on Saturday afternoon there for those tastings. She usually comes home with a few bottles (or more) of interesting wines. (I think that's a good thing, right?!) Wine tastings, case discounts, gift bags, really nice people. Kind of like getting to know your barber or your mechanic, getting to know your wine and liquor people can ultimately pay off in your satisfaction. These guys work hard to be your go-to place. read more

Hands down the best wine shop in Nashville. Knowledgeable staff who will steer you right. There are other good shops but this one is tops.

I don't know much about wine, to be honest. I usually just stick with brands I'm familiar with, which are the $10 or under variety. (Although I've read so many consumer reports stating that the cheaper brands win taste tests! Anyway...) I stopped in the Wine Chap because I was already shopping at Publix and was pleasantly surprised at the pretension I did *not* find here. I mean, this is Belle Made after all and with a name like the Wine Chap - however cute it may be - I was expecting high end prices. I usually go in, grab something, and go out with no help by the staff, but someone did approach me and actually helped me pick out a bottle for a friend within my budget. They had fantastic suggestions for all price ranges (and didn't make me endure hours of lecturing about tannins and French hillsides). They were kind, professional, and incredibly helpful. Great wine shop right around the corner from e, and next-door to Publix. The staff is always extremely helpful and inviting. They have a huge selection of different wines. I have even seen wine tastings in there on the weekends. Overall one of the best choices in the area. read more

I put off entering this place for some time thinking that due to its size and location, the prices were be off the charts and the selection small. Wrong on both counts. What a delightful place. The prices are reasonable, and the selection, though smaller than "that warehouse we all know about," is inspired. Best of all, the staff is knowledgable and very eager to help. And if they aren't familiar with a selection, they don't fake it. It is a very warm and welcoming shop. I am so happy to have discovered this little gem. read more

The wine chap has a wonderful selection of wines, however their service is horrible. When you walk in no one says hello and the entire time no one even acknowledges your presence. With such a large selection it would be great to have someone's help or even know that they care. Both times I've been in I have ended up leaving with nothing and going somewhere else to purchase my wine because they are of no help. read more
