Excellent shop with great options, free tastings, and knowledgeable staff who can point you in the right direction.

This Total Wine sits at the back of the large center that is Brentwood Place on Franklin Road…read more I have always been a fan of Total Wine, as they carry a lot of the specialty stuff that you just can't find at the more local shops. In some cases the prices are better, but not always. When I swing by, it is normally for a specialty item and this last trip was just that. And while I was on a mission, it always turns into "well, I am already here..." type of trip, so I walk out with a few classic items as well. The store is well laid out, clean and always well stocked. In addition to the booze, they offer classes, have classrooms, a beer cooler, humidor and a few other things to offer. Service is where they lost a star for me. I will say that the cashiers are always friendly and helpful, but the service I receive on the floor is never great. They always tend to have an attitude, like I am bothering them. This latest trip was no different. I asked two associates while wandering around the store and neither were very pleasant interactions. Very weird for the brand, but at least at this location, it is fairly common from my experience. It is never enough to be labeled as "bad" or "awful", but it is quite off-putting. Overall, this Total Wine location comes in clutch when needed, and it will remain a go-to for the goods, specialty or not.

OK. This crappy review is based on service. I am NOT a wine…read moredrinker typically. I drink lagers and wheat beer, good bourbon, Irish whiskey, Tanqueray Ten etc. I often get a headache from wine but noticed when I was in France that I could drink wine like a fish and not only enjoyed it, I never got a headache. Someone told me that was because of sulfites. I don't know if it's true, I don't care if it's true. But I headed off to our usual liquor store and bought an organic called Our Daily Red that was recommended to me. It said No Decipherable Sulfites on the label. Hey...it was good and I didn't get a headache. So maybe I can get the antioxidants that Dr. Oz says I need. Hubby and I happened to be in the strip mall area where Brentwood Wine & Spirits is housed and thought we'd stop in there to get another bottle. Weird...I didn't even want to go in really, but didn't want to drive to our usual place either. Enter the two pretentious, unfriendly buttholes that were working there. I told them when I walked in that I know Jack Schitt about wine but was looking for Our Daily Red or something else that didn't have sulfites. First snorts of derision from butthole #1 - there's sulfites in ALL wine. sulfites don't give you a headache. There's more sulfites in a glass of orange juice. Hmmm...well genius, I don't drink orange juice either. But, I grabbed two bottles and proceeded to pay the guy. Enter butthole #2 in his crappy Tshirt and he promised me that I just needed to take Benadryl...OR ANY ANOTHER ANTIHISTAMINE THAT DOESN'T MAKE YOU DROWSY (Because you know, Benadryl never makes anyone drowsy and sure...just take some drugs with your alcohol) because it was the pollen on the grapes that gives me a headache and not sulfites. Now I'm interested in this pollen thing. I mentioned that I have no seasonal allergies. He said I wasn't allergic to the grapes in France..and that I'm allergic to pollen from California. I wasn't going to go down the road to explain that I got headaches from wine made outside of the Golden State too. He then told me the Our Daily Red grapes must have been washed. OK. Yeah FatBoy...I'm guessing you didn't learn your pharmacology or immunology at any accredited university so quit snorting and rolling your eyes at me. I'M GIVING YOU MONEY JERK, I'M A CUSTOMER. If I believe that the "No Decipherable Sulfites" on that label is what works and makes me hand you my money. Just take it without acting like a total douchebag. My husband, during this time was looking over their bourbon inventory and said they didn't have anything good. This place sucks. I hope Jason S. puts it on his "Places that Suck" list by proxy.

Sure, you can buy liquor just about anywhere...but genuine service, kindness and personal attention are rare these days this is what sets them apart from other stores. Adrain and Brittain go above and beyond to make every visit feel special. They greet you like family, remember your favorites and will even track down special bottles. That kind of care is not something I take for granted or that you can put a price on. Lately, they have also hosted phenomenal wine tastings and classes which have been such a fun addition. It is clear they are passionate about what they do and about creating a great experience for their customers. If you have not checked them out yet, you are missing out. Supporting a locally owned business like this is easy when they do it right. Highly recommend!
