Wine was okay -did end up buying 2 bottles of the one variety that we liked the best. The most memorable part, however, was that the bartender was clearly having the worst day of her life based on her attitude with us. Or maybe we ruined her day by walking in to the otherwise empty tasting room, interrupting her alone time. It was so bad that at one point I said to my friend "I guess we came here to get yelled at!" Reasons I was yelled at included walking into the tasting room with an empty (therefore open) can of Surfside and not having throw it away prior (btw -none of us were remotely intoxicated). It really wasn't a big deal and I immediately went to throw it away but man was she bent out of shape over it. She also seemed particularly irritated when four of us wanted to do a flight and when I asked for a straw (so I could try our 5th persons slushee without using her straw). I actually thought she was going to say no after I asked bc she hesitated and just stared at me as though her brain couldn't process why I would be asking for a straw. Everything is overpriced (the towels, glasses, etc) and normally I wouldn't care bc it's a small business, but you can't can't charge prices like that on top of being miserable. read more

My mother and I both ordered a bottle of wine and we both got five dollars off are bottle of wine for ordering the tasting flight. What a great deal!! The wine slushy was the bomb!!! They shared about their winery, wine selection, and other local ones to visit. I instantly gravitated to the Barrel Select a red blend, but they have a dynamic selection of sweet, dry, red and white wines. They also have wine slushies! This review is based on a private group tasting. We had a reservation for a group tasting an pairing at this satellite location of the winery. Everything was organized and ready for our group. There were eight wines, each was well paired with an item, primarily cheese, but also nuts or chocolate. While we did not like all of the wines, the overall experience was great, which was down to the staff. Caitlyn (not sure if the spelling is correct) was phenomenal, we really enjoyed her hosting us, as well as the couple other staff that popped in. Worth checking out, especially if you have a group and can make a reservation. Such a fun experience here! I've lived in Nashville for a few years and I haven't really heard of this place until a friend looked up things to do/experiences for the weekend. We did a group wine pairing with snacks (rare to find wine tastings with snack pairings) in the back room (made reservations). The snacks included apple, cheese, nuts, and chocolate and we tasted 8 different wines: red, white, and sweet. Great variety! I particularly loved their blackberry wine as it was refreshing and semi sweet. I got too excited with the wine that I didn't take too many pictures of it. We stopped here after a brief tour from Antique Archeology. The Marathon building has numerous business located within and its pretty cool. It's very similar to the BOK building in Philadelphia. Grinders offers a wine tasting for $5.00 which is a solid deal. If i remember correctly you can choose 4 between a variety of 8 wines. Some were better than others. All good though. This ain't it If you are a true wine lover this place is not for you. It left so much to be desired. We had this on our list to do for our Nashville visit but it didn't fit our schedule. I'm so glad it didn't because my group would have hated it. Two of us had a late flight the last day and decided to check it out. The look on my face said it all. Let's start out with the lack of seating. Tasting rooms can have chairs! Even the ones at total wine or Whole Foods have chairs. I really have no incentive to stay and drink and order a cheese board if I have to stand. Second the glasses they gave us were so dirty, I can tell a water stain from dust and this was hard dust at the bottom of the glass and they only clean them with a towel. Gross. I know many people who would not get past that itself but we continued. They don't change your glass between wines either or rinse them, not surprised anymore knowing the glasses are dirty from the start anyway. The wine isn't chilled. The decor is dusty and bad but that's personal aesthetic. None of the items on the shelves had pricing so really didn't make me want to buy anything. There was so much space for bar tables and chairs but there wasn't any. They said we could sit in the hall if they gave us plastic cups...well after seeing the glass I should have done that. We drank our flight and left immediately. The staff was nice but the experience is crap. I do better wine tastings at home. Don't waste your time if you are looking for a nice sit down wine room. I am definitely a fan of this little winery! Guests are able to sample all of the wines for right around $8. (that's what I call a steal) The winery is not very big at all. They have a 20 ft bar area where you can stand up and do your tastings. I would not recommend this winery if want to bring a big group. This is a stop and sip kind of winery. I won't spend more than 20-30 min here just because of size. The wines were very delicious and the waitress was well-versed in her overall knowledge of all the different wines. This was such a great day stop and will come back EVERY time I am in Nashville. My boyfriend and I did the wine and cheese pairing and wow, was it worth it! It's not advertised very well but I did some research ahead of time. But I 100% recommend signing up for the $25 wine and cheese pairing. I was able to sample, many cheeses, peaches, a chocolate and nuts. Along with everything on my cheese board, there was a wine paired with it. The lady hosting the event was really generous, was well versed and friendly the whole time. At the end, it was amazing that everything we tasted that day was available for purchase - even the cheese. We ended up leaving with a bottle and two kinds of cheese! Afterwards, it was warm out so we were sure to grab some wine slushies' for only $3. You can mix and match however you like - one of ours turned out tasting exactly like a peach ring. If you're second guessing to come here or not, make sure you do because it's definitely worth it. The wine and cheese pairing takes an hour and then you can walk down the street to get a picture with Nashville wall mural and stop by the distillery. read more

Came with a girlfriend yesterday. What a cute little spot for a quick wine tasting. We both sampled about 4-5 wines. I personally like sweeter wines and had a sample of them all. I really enjoyed the earthy taste of the muscadine grapes. The lady that helped us, Michael, was super sweet and nice. The General was pretty good my second tasting was the honeysuckle rose. Yummy. The blackberry express was hands down my favorite. I tried the General 2; no thank you. We ended up getting wine slushees. Strawberry slush with blackberry wine. Can't stop; won't stop. It was amazinggggg. The space was super cute. The items they had were very unique and locally crafted. Love being able to support local businesses. Very cute little tasting room in the old Marathon building. We did the dry tasting which was mostly whites and one red and our friend did the port. 2 of the white were quite good!! I think it was the ones they said paralleled with the sauv blanc and pinot grigio. The 'champange' without the bubbles white was way too sweet for me so I was not a fan. The one red I tried, that self described itself as buttery was basically undrinkable. It tasted like butter, not wine. Ew. Friend that ordered the $5 port did not like it at all either. That said, port can be tough, it should be strong but smooth. I think they do some dry whites well, I would not even venture to try their reds or their 'sweet' wines based on what I thought was sweet from their dry menu read more

My favorite Nashville winery! I love that if I need to pick up some bottles I can at the Marathon Music Works building, or I can go to Centerville to their other large location. Although I live in downtown, and the MMW location is very close, convenient and lots of parking, I am a member of the quarterly wine club! I find the discount, the free samples & wine slushees to very incentivizing with this club! Every quarter I could get the bottles shipped, but I pick them up In-store for the party! They have some food, free wine & slushees, and fellowship for all the club members. I love sweet wine, so my favorite is the Razzburry (red), Honeysuckle (red), Switch Red (red) and Blonde (White) They have wine tasting for 5$ to try the 4 sweets or the 4 dry. You can also enjoy the wine slushees- you choose the base (I do cherry) and I choose honeysuckle wine, you choose the wine you want! I visited Grinder's Switch while popping into Nashville briefly. I wanted to try some local wines and bring something back to Virginia as well. The location was convenient as it is in an area with other little shops and a distillery. I decided to do the tasting of 4 sweet wines and I think I made the right choice. Brandon helped me out and was an absolute pleasure. He even let me try the Vidal Blanc from the dry list as well as a Honeysuckle that wasn't on the menu. Inside the Marathon Motor Works ... it's a Fun change up from craft brews, bourbon and whisky. Great service and surprisingly good wines. I didn't taste the Sweet wines because I don't really care for sweet wines. Flight of Sweet Wines was $3 Flight of Dry Wines was $4 Flight of ALL was $6 We just did the Dry. I really liked the Colleytown, the Magnolia White and the Vidal Blanc. Colleytown was a Syrah blend that was medium bodied and had a good fruit - dark berry flavor but smooth with a hint of spice. Not all that jammy like most Syrahs but that didn't detract me from liking it. The Magnolia White was a dry Gewurztraminer that was dry, but refreshing. This one would be great to have with a summer salad of chicken and pears. The Vidal Blanc was a crisp and citrusy almost like a Sauvignon Blanc... it was light and easy to drink. Would be a really good "sitting by the pool" while sipping a glass of this lovely wine. I wanted to buy several bottles but alas... it's hard to do when you are traveling. And where I live in SoNV... it's too warm now to order wine and have it shipped. I'll have to wait til Fall to put in my order. (I'm particular that my wine doesn't get too "hot" during transit so I don't order any wine from May through October.) read more

I stopped in while visiting Marathon Music Works area. I had a strawberry slushie with blackberry wine and it was just $4! Price was awesome! The drink was very tasting. The tasting room itself was small and the area is busy but it's very cute. They even have a photo opportunity wall which was neat. Parking is street parking and paid for lots. Their winery is outside Nashville so this the tasting room. I thought the staff was nice and helpful! I took the trolley so parking was not an issue. It was a pretty crowded tasting room, which is to be expected on a weekend with nice weather in Nashville. My mom and I have been coming to this winery ever since we stumbled upon the vineyards in 2018 for our annual girls trip. We have been huge fans of the wines and make it a priority to stop at the tasting room to buy a few bottles and do a tasting every time we visit Nashville. Each time, we've had amazing service and even better wines. We love listening to the staff talk about the different types of wine they have for tasting. Sadly the experience we had a couple of weeks ago at the tasting room really put us off Grinder Switch. When we walked in, we weren't even greeted with a hello. The lady that was helping us, had a HORRIBLE attitude and honestly looked like she didn't enjoy her job or the customers at all. I do not remember her name, but I do know that she had facial piercings. We ordered a tasting and would not tell us anything about the wine we were tasting. At one point, my mom asked for a water and she acted like it was a chore just to do that. After being loyal customers for years and never having a bad experience here, we were definitely disappointed. We walked out of the tasting room not purchasing any bottles, and most likely will not be returning. Please train your employees to be a little more hospitable. read more
