At the same time, Calvin Harris was equally early in his journey, years before becoming a global, arena-filling superstar. In a venue that intimate, the sound was mind-boggling, the party was incredible, and there was a feeling that something much bigger was beginning even if none of us fully understood it yet. I was young, dumb, reckless, and wonderfully carefree, living through a refreshingly simple chapter before New York darkened my heart. Bag policy is strictly enforced with everyone's bags getting searched through by security guards before gaining entry to the event and/or venue. However, the capacity wise of the basement can get jam-packed very quickly with a few hundreds of attendees. Several separate rooms are downstairs if there happen to be different stations/activations going on. - Simple Hairstyling - Hair Tinsel - Photo Booth - Water Bottle Engraving - Keychain Charm Station - Snack Corner The stage area by the front is raised and medium-size in the main room. Better for a smaller and more intimate crowd of audience. For the Intern Queen event, rows of folded chairs are temporarily being set up very close to the stage. Therefore, not much room is in between of each row either. As for concerts, the seating area would usually be used as general admission standing room instead. Limited rows of older theater-style seating are within all the way towards the back. There seems to be no bad or abstract views in the theater from whichever seat you happen to be sitting in. Only one LED screen is found for the audience to see whatever is happening on stage which is better than nothing I guess. Although like most of the broadway theaters in Times Square, the legroom here at Gramercy Theatre is tightly-spaced and almost inadequate as well. Just imagine the uncomfortable feeling of your knees pressing against the back of the seat if someone in front of you is leaning back in his/her seat. You would just have to bear with it for the time being if you happen to be taller or have a bigger body frame. Small bar area on each corner of the section where the folded chairs are. Drinks are super expensive on the menu. There're both men's and women's restrooms located on the lower level. Size wise is on the smaller side. Pretty clean for the most part though inside the stall.

Have seen many performances at this venue for the past 20 years. Recently, I have noticed the New York Philharmonic offers wonderful discounts even up to 50% off a single performance without a subscription. During The week of August 9 through the 15th, The New York Philharmonic had a special for purchasing tickets for $69.50 each (regularly up to $148.00 each). Note: You had to choose three or more in a subscription to obtain the $69.50 price per ticket. In order to take advantage of these wonderful offers, you need to place your email on their mailing list. If you haven't been able to afford to attend a performance in the past, these discounts can definitely ease the wallet pressure. In May, I attended "Bugs Bunny at the Symphony!"(Folks, Sorry for the review delay). For you Baby Boomers, remember all the Classical Music from the Bugs Bunny cartoons? Well, that's exactly what you got!. The Superb NY Philharmonic performed along with Bugs Bunny and his friends cartoons that were on a super widescreen TV above the orchestra. The audience had perpetual smiles on their faces :) Some "What's Up Doc!" extras at Avery Fisher Hall: -Excellent and friendly customer service provided by employees at purchasing windows, intermission refreshment tables, ushers and security. -Souvenir T-shirts such as The Rabbit of Seville (The Barber of Seville) were sold. This is a Knockdown Center review through Tiki Disco eyes, because that is how I first understood…read morethe venue at its highest use. Tiki Disco is more than a party, and my first experiences with it in the Ruins were nourishment for the soul during a certain New York chapter. It powered me through the corporate Monday morning bargain that often felt like the price of admission to New York. I first went in 2013, after learning about Tiki from people whose taste I trusted. DJs I followed knew Lloyd, Eli, and Andy and described the party with admiration, making it feel essential. So I went, and within minutes I remember thinking, "Good Lord, this is incredible." It was a feeling I have only had a handful of times while chasing thrills in cities around the world. The crowd was part of the revelation: striking and free-spirited, with a physical aliveness that made the afternoon hum. People were dressed with that impossible Brooklyn ease where skin appeared here and there without feeling thirsty or staged. This was the beginning of the social media boom, when people were broadcasting a "perfect life" from Ibiza and Mykonos. Those places were being sold as aspirational cool, but Tiki made the better argument: maybe summer in Europe would happen someday, but for that Sunday, the real magic was a bike ride or subway ride away, right on the Bushwick and Maspeth edge. What made it unforgettable was 2 forces meeting at full strength. Tiki brought the music, people, and spirit; Knockdown Center brought the scale, texture, and atmosphere. The Ruins had brick walls, industrial windows, and a smokestack over the courtyard, giving the outdoor space the feeling of something discovered rather than staged. People drank Modelo cans, ate mini Roberta's pizzas, and swayed through the afternoon inside one of the city's best secrets. The party felt like a generous island in New York: part club and part commune. It grew from a circle of friends into something much larger while keeping a shared code of warmth, taste, and welcome. As Tiki continues to reach new audiences, that spirit remains at its heart. Tiki knows how to carry the original spark forward. I loved day parties from that era, including Été d'Amour, Warm Up at MoMA PS1, Mister Sunday at Industry City, and The Well for Tiki and Lee Burridge's All Day I Dream. But nothing matched Tiki Disco at Knockdown Center when a hot Sunday afternoon became a full outdoor dance floor under the New York sky. The day began in bright heat, then gathered force as the sun dropped behind the brick, and the courtyard moved as one. Lloyd, Eli, and Andy have world-class taste and a masterful command of the CDJs, but they carry it lightly. They would never announce that talent; they show you, smile modestly if you notice, and then fade back into the New York jungle. I still remember Lloyd playing Stars on 33's "Something You Can Feel" at the high point, when the song gathered the afternoon into one shimmering, collective peak. That first Tiki impression also includes Eli dropping Todd Terje's "Inspector Norse," a record woven into the party's vocabulary. The sound was serious, clean, and precisely tuned, with what sounded like a portable Funktion One setup giving the music power and clarity. The DJs knew how to build the moment, and Knockdown gave it space, height, and brick wall resonance. The staff deserve credit too, because an outdoor party like that only works when the crew protects the energy intelligently. Security seemed relaxed and alert, letting the harmless weirdness breathe while quietly squashing the negative without making the afternoon feel policed. Tiki Disco in the Ruins captured one of the sexiest and most quintessential versions of bohemian New York I've ever experienced. It creates a community that can, for a few hours, push back against the fear, status anxiety, and shame that city life pours into people. It is metaphysical in the best possible way because it comes through music, sunlight, and sweat.

My husband I travelled to Austin, Texas just to see Los Crudos play the Chaos and Tejas festival. And yet we receive a notice that they are playing a show in our own backyard. Bananas! I love the lead signer Martin, who is not only a talented singer but also photographer. He is also a strong believer in the necessity of these types of venues, that help exposed the youth and everyone else to unique and fun musical experience. The show cost me $10 and it was packed in the venue but not as packed as I expected. I will be keeping my ear to the ground for any more upcoming shows. Keep up the good work C-Squat! The atmosphere was post-punk, and there were some very hot bands playing. It reminded me a little of the late great Gusto House on 4th street (before you were born, kiddies) in that walls and ceilings had been knocked out in the performance space to make it a bi-level showplace. Because tomorrow is SantaCon, I saw a couple of Santas there. 'Tis the season.

I walked up to a neoclassical half domed shell designed by William G. Tachau and built between 1921 and 1923, facing out onto one of the more formal stretches of the park. The architecture has a presence that holds up on its own terms as a piece of the overall landscape. The bandshell has hosted outdoor concerts in Central Park for over a century, and the Naumburg Orchestral Concerts continue to use the space for free performances during the warmer months. The acoustics carry well in the open air setting, and the natural bowl of the surrounding lawn functions as informal seating that fills up during popular performances. Catching a concert here is one of those New York experiences that feels specific to the city in a way that is difficult to replicate elsewhere, and the setting in the middle of the park on a summer evening is genuinely memorable. Beyond concerts, the bandshell serves as a gathering point for walks, runs, community events, and festivals throughout the year. I have seen the Disability Unite Festival and various charity walks use the space, and its central location within the park makes it a natural meeting point for larger organized activities. The area is busy on weekends with a mix of tourists and locals passing through along the Mall. On a quiet day when nothing is scheduled, the bandshell is still worth a look as part of a longer walk through the park. It sits close enough to other Central Park landmarks that it integrates naturally into any itinerary rather than requiring a separate detour. For a piece of Central Park history that still serves its original purpose, the Naumburg Bandshell is a quietly impressive stop.

This Bandshell has hosted hundreds of performances since it opened in the 1920s. I've been to a variety of concerts including classical, jazz, and rock music. The Bandshell was built in 1923 to provide a large space for music on the Mall. The first bandshell was smaller. The construction of the larger bandshell was funded by philanthropist and music-lover Elkan Naumburg, thus the current name. My last visit I took a photo of the sign about the restoration. There's a high fence with many trucks and workmen in the area. I'll be glad when the restoration is complete. This is the perfect time of year for outdoor concerts. It is also safer for distancing during the pandemic.

I went to this venue in late September to see one of my favorite music artists, Elbow. For those unaware, they are a British band from Manchester that's been around since the late 90s, and they're unfortunately more popular in Europe. The songs range from simple ballads and sadder tracks to louder ones, with many featuring a strong orchestral mix, all backed by Guy Garvey's lyrics, which range from soft to booming. In other words, take the old Coldplay (Rush of Blood to the Head period or so) music, make the vocals less falsetto, and add a few more classical instruments, and you have these guys. The opening act that night was Why Bonnie, a soft-spoken artist with a pretty voice who was doing songs entirely on a single guitar, apparently because the rest of the members were sick or something. This led to many of the songs sounding somewhat similar, though I did like a bunch of them. Anyway, outside of the artists, the venue was a bit dark but nice. The main thing to always worry about at venues is the acoustics, and they were fantastic here. There was plenty of room (or, I guess, you could say Elbow room in this case) with good views from the main area and some space above the stage. The drinks were overpriced, but hey, it's an NYC venue in Williamsburg to boot. The staff were friendly, and it was easy enough to get inside. It's not my favorite venue I've been to, but it worked perfectly for an artist like this. I would recommend them.

Decent sound, solid setup (I only see things bottleneck really by the bathroom/coat check) and brings good artists. My husband and I managed to get a solid spot upstairs, but even when we were downstairs it was fairly easy to find a good spot too. Bartender was cool and helped us pick the best bang for our buck beer too. Looking forward to catching the next show here!
