I reserved through Orbitz, and despite multiple attempts to reach the property via email and phone, I was never able to reach them prior to my stay. This was concerning, so I was relieved to find they were actually open when I got there. Unfortunately, when I arrived home and the charge was finalized on my card, I found they overcharged me from the total I was provided in the Orbitz app. The room was ok aside from a solid spiderweb in a corner- and I did end up killing a large spider & some kind of beetle. The AC in the room I ended up with was not working, and although they had put a second fan in the room, it was just too hot. I ended up leaving a day early because it was so uncomfortable. Cute inn in a good location but communication and cleanliness was an issue. We found a shoe that did not belong to us next to the bed. The shower interior had pink and black mold and the walls and ceiling had black mold- could not use it which was a bummer. Internet was spotty. I preface this review by saying 3 stars reflects issues that may not be important to some but were important to me. This motel is in amazing shape, the people were very nice, the beds and pillows really comfortable. The shower didn't have that screwy shower curtain but a door which is really nice. I WOULD STAY HERE AGAIN. I found the price reasonable. Totally cool fridges in the rooms with freezers. That out of the way, I found issues with the following: Wifi: For me, this is a big issue. I was traveling with my 15 year old son so his entire life, as is mine for work, is online. I understand that they have made a lot of changes and loads of improvements but the most important improvements you can make are those that the customer is most likely to touch the most. For instance, the towels.. Super nice and embroidered with "Woodfords Inn" on them and not cheap, crappy towels either. Great touch. I wish the same attention had been given to the wifi. I was in room #6, at best the wifi was extremely spotty to non-existent. Pro tip: the wifi works best the closer the room is to the office. TV: the tv ran off the internet so yeah... Dish is on the way but due to covid19, delayed. This goes back to the wifi issue. If you have great wifi, do you need dish? There may be an issue with great wifi but I know the Creekside Lodge in Markleeville does not have a wifi issue in my experience. It's in a more remote area. Pocket door: There is a pocket door between the living area and the bathroom. The one in room #6 when we stayed here did not close and I was told it was not functional on purpose. For a single person in the room, or any room, not an issue but for two, this is an issue. My son was exposed to an odoriferous experience he could've done without. Yes, of course, he could've left the room but should he have had to? So that's it. I want to emphasize, the issues I have may not be shared by everyone and, as I said, I would definitely stay here again. If they improve these issues, I can't imagine staying elsewhere when in the area. read more

What a gem! This is going to be my spot for when we ski Kirkwood. Our room was very cute and clean and had windows that opened up to bright natural light every morning. I found the firm bed to be very comfortable for my back, and probably almost better here than at home. The room had nice touches throughout: wooden table and bench, large TV, and microwave. The most special touch about the inn is the baked goods, cereal, milk, coffee, yogurt, and water that are kept stocked in the office. Nothing beats a nice cup of hot coffee in the chilly morning as you prepare for your drive. Really appreciate that the inn is thoughtful and cares enough to prepare that for the guests! read more

Stayed here recently to ski kirkwood. The rooms have a rustic cabin-y aesthetic which is super charming but are recently renovated and super modern. Fridge and tv are great. Mattress was super comfy. Wifi was flawless. We were also on the second floor in the furthest corner room from the main office where the internet is so I would assume internet is good throughout the property. My gf works remote and was able to do zoom video calls with no issue. Location wise you're a 10 min drive from a great restaurant (stonefly) and bar (cutthroat) in nearby markleeville. Recently stayed at this charming hotel and we were wowed by the hospitality! We had to arrive late and Han was very kind and welcoming despite the late hour. The room was clean and quiet, with shutters that totally blocked the light and strong A/C that kept the room cool despite a viscous heat wave. It was truly the best night sleep I've had in ages! Then in the morning, we had a breakfast that was many times better than the usual free breakfast. They had Noosa yogurt!! Then as we were leaving, the proprietor offered us ziplock bags of ice to take with us on our hike. The kindness was so appreciated. We'll definitely be back! This place is a true gem. read more

This is such a cute hotel/motel. The room and bathroom were maintained well and clean. Nothing was broken or needed fixing (except the sliding door to the bathroom but it was minor, just a little hard to slide). This place is 30 minutes from Kirkwood ski resort so it's pretty close. The WiFi was easy to connect to. The mattress and bed sheets were soft and cozy. They provided an extra fleece blanket and had an AC/heater unit so you make it as warm or as cool as you want. It was also quiet at night so I slept soundly. The owners really care about their guests as shown by all the little details, like using the Kleenex brand for tissues, super soft toilet paper, the wide variety of breakfast items and drinks, and the numerous wall hangers for clothes and towels. Will plan on staying here again for another ski/snowboard trip. read more

Check-in was a breeze. Very friendly management. Wifi and smart TV's in the rooms (can log into your Netflix, Hulu, etc.). Very clean, monogrammed towels, toiletries, blow driers. If it was possible to provide a number lower than one I most certainly would. The management of this establishment has absolutely no credibility whatsoever. We had pre-paid for two nights for our daughter's wedding in the area, but Covid and wildfires prevented the wedding from taking place. We were told we would have future credit for two nights, subject to any price adjustment, with no expiration date. I made a recent (9-15-23) reservation for this Saturday night (9-23-23), but when showing up was told no reservation was in their records. Appears staffing a major issue, as none of the personnel I've talked to is apparently there anymore. I would not recommend anyone take the chance to stay at such an unethical business. read more

My daughter was in the mountains driving in bad weather and pulled over and stayed for the night. Alex was so kind to her and made her feel so safe and welcome. As a mother, I am extremely grateful. I've been here a few times and it really is a great place. I think For the same price as any big airbnb split, this place is well worth the money. It has very good and spacious rooms. Bathrooms are great- and you get everything you can expect from a hotel. Fresh towels, hot water, fresh toiletries, etc. Rooms have tvs and cable. Even has wifi! The dressing room is also pretty satisfying. The folks who run the place are very nice. Just call them in advance on the phone and they will take your reservation. There is plenty of space for parking and this is kirkwoods delight being just 25 mins away. Unfortunately this place is not near any restaurants. read more

The rooms have been recently updated and have a retro look. Hand crafted pine tables and benches are a great touch.Everything was very clean and tidy. Alex, the manager was friendly and helpful. It is nice to talk to a human when making reservations. He was there when we arrived and seemed to remember us even though we had only spoke on the phone. There is a complementary self serve coffee and snacks for all guests. There was even two bottled waters and two bags of chips in our room. They didn't charge us for the water like some hotels. This is place is a gem for Kirkwood lovers. $77 for a 1 queen bedroom $88 for 2 beds bedroom It was clean and the owners are super sweet. Sadly it is beyond the chains control so you will have to go through it by snowy days. Free wifi, sure not super fast but when was the last time you had good free internet in a Motel? I've stayed here for many years in the past and it was always a convenient stopover when hiking at Carson Pass. However, with the change in ownership, increase in price by 250%, and the new no cancellation policy, changed my feelings about Woodford's Inn. We were forced to change our plans ahead of time because of the Tamarack fire, a tragic natural disaster.The roads were closed, the smoke level was toxic, evacuations were happening, and driving through there posed a health hazard. I received no response to my email about our cancellation. On top of that, I received a phone call at 10 pm on the night were were supposed to stay there, with no voicemail message left. An additional email to their website received no response. I can't in good conscience give them more than one star because of their business policy. read more

The new owners have renovated the rooms and have made some great improvements, in the rooms and outside. Gary, Grace, and Alex have always been very helpful with getting a room and help. The office has bags of ice, and stuff for a simple breakfast and snacks. There's a new full size refrigerator\freezer, microwave and a large Smart TV in the rooms. The sound proofing they did helps. A new covered outdoor seating area has been created, with a propane grill. We used it once, it was nice to have that option. Been going up there to fish, it's fishing. We had a group of 12 folks staying the night before a 2 night snow-camping trip up on Carson Pass. The Location was perfect and the rooms were very Nice. Most rooms had been redone, new carpet, great showers, lots of Towels, Two types of shampoo and conditioner. The owner had turned on the heat and had rooms warm when we arrived, he also called ahead and made sure the restaurant would stay open for dinner down in Markleeville until we arrived. We stayed here overnight, planning to go to Grover Hot Springs in the morning. We missed the sign for this place the first time around (it's really only visible if you're going south), but finally made it at about 6:45pm and the gentleman who runs the place (who might be the nicest person in the world) asked if we had already eaten dinner. We hadn't, and he was concerned that the nearest restaurant (in Markleeville) was going to close before we could get there. So he called them and asked them if they would wait for us (which they did). After that we got settled into the room which was very nice. The outside of the Inn looks a little old, but they must have re-done the rooms fairly recently because it looked very nice and fairly modern. Everything worked, the water pressure was good, the water temperature was nice and hot. There were 2 sinks, which is nice if everyone's trying to brush their teeth all at once. There was a coffee maker, which worked well. And there was free WiFi which also worked well. There was a mini-fridge too, in case you have any hiking/travel snacks that need to be refrigerated. Check out was very quick and easy, and again, the gentleman who helped us was extremely nice. Definitely a great place to stay if you're looking in the area. read more

Unlike other inns that sit you right next to other businesses, Woodfords is located away from any city/town. You are close to fishing, hiking, and close enough to Nevada to do some gambling if that's your deal. Markleeville is a refreshing 5 minute drive away. The owner and his family are friendly hosts. They seem to go out of their way to make your stay a good time. And for my family it was greatly appreciated. I'd like to add that this is a good place to go for large families that need multiple rooms. You can keep your family centrally located each night after a long day where everyone goes about with their daily activities. It makes for a fun family trip.
