After looking on and off during that time, we finally found Khimaira Farm (1 of 3 venues we actually visited), and quickly realized we had found something special. We loved the relaxed/fun vibe Khimaira Farm had to offer and couldn't be more satisfied with our experience there both with the venue and the staff. There are so many things for your guests to do there- games, porch swings, walking around the grounds, and I really appreciate all the thought that has gone into that. After all the hard work you put into planning the wedding, it's really rewarding to hear your guests talk about what a great time they had. Linda and her team are easy to work with, they pay attention to detail, and are genuinely good people who want you to enjoy your wedding day above all else. Here's a good example- although they have plenty of awesome decorations, I enjoy making things and really wanted to make these bike tire wedding welcome signs since I bike. I hadn't had time to make any kind of stand for them but gave Linda a brief description of my vision for them and she assured me they would find a place for them. Linda's daughter, Corina, ended up creating a gorgeous display with them right at the entrance to the ceremony that was exactly what I was imagining and I received a ton of compliments on it! Corina also took pictures (I didn't even realize she was doing that) that helped supplement the pictures from the photographer. I've written words, but I still feel like I really have no words about this place, the people there and the time we had there- so much love all around! Linda and Corina are such wonderful people and really worked hard to make the day as easy as possible. They have great relationships with all of the vendors in town and have done this so many times that they really have it down to a science. We also switched our theme for our wedding like 4 times - we ended up seeing photos of a wedding at Khimaira Farms the week before ours that they had sent out in an email and we knew that's exactly what we wanted from our wedding. They worked with a short turn around time in creating that vision for us and I can't thank them enough. All of our guests loved the venue! I highly recommend this venue because we were allowed to make all the decisions for making the perfect wedding for my daughter and son in law, use the dance floor, have a cookie table, etc...It was very affordable with no hidden fees, very spacious and so beautiful. The rain prevented us from having the ceremony outside, but Diane and her crew quickly made the switch at the last minute and pulled it off in 15 minutes. She was so helpful throughout the entire process, always responded quickly by phone and email, had a spread sheet with all the information that we needed, gave us great suggestions, it was like having a personal wedding planner. She made sure everything went smoothly. She also has some decorations and drink dispensers which we used at no extra cost. They provided all the tables and very nice chairs, dance floor, bar, linens, plates, silverware, fire pit, changing area for bride and groom, clean bathrooms, and beautiful scenery for photos.

Our room was not like the photos (definitely not fully remodeled) or luxurious. The bathroom had new fixtures and vanity but the tub was still old and kind of grimy. The window screen in the bathroom was ancient and hard to open and there were some sort of seeds or insect eggs all over the windowsill there. There were also dead flies in the front window, which could have used a wipe down. We had a 2 queen room and one bad was extremely hard and one was very soft. There were only 3 pillows on each bed so someone only had 1 pillow - not ideal with kids. Two of the towels in the bathroom were nice and 2 were pretty raggedy and thin. The size of the room was fine (only room for 1 small table, no chairs) but there was no additional deadbolt or slide latch on the door and that didn't feel safe, especially after someone tried to put a code into our door at about 11:00 one night. This motel is somewhat cute, cozy and quiet but still seems a bit run down. However, after driving around Luray, I'd venture to say it's the nicest of the roadside motels we saw. It has beautiful views of the Shenandoah's and it's very convenient to town and the park. It wasn't awful but wasn't what we expected. The manager Judy was very nice when she called to confirm our reservation and when I let her know the room smelled smoky. Be aware that not all rooms look like the photo on the website.

The best part is we were within walking distance of several eateries which made finding food easy. Now for the cons - If you need complete darkness to sleep, this may not be the place for you. The natural light in our room was incredible and so were the street lights! We wore sleep masks and that helped us greatly but without them we likely wouldn't have slept well at all. Also, when we raised issues about cleanliness, the manager responded promptly. I'm not sure we'd stay here again but it was still a solid stay.

Our first B&B experience we didn't know exactly what to expect but we really enjoyed it. Bob, the owner, is just so sweet and we loved his hospitality. He makes you breakfast each morning and makes you feel very welcome and at home. It's a bit old school because we called to make a reservation and Bob just takes your name and number and that's it. No credit card number, no confirmation email... just show up, he's waiting for you! The house itself has so much character, built in the 1830's, we loved looking at all the unique rooms and old- timey decor. Definitely recommend and would visit again! Also would like to add that one of the common complaints that I read on yelp when we were looking for places to stay was that the noise from the highway was too much. Maybe it was our room's location in the house but I'll honestly say that it was barely noticeable and definitely not something that's even worth mentioning.

The breakfasts were fantastic; mostly variations on pancakes and French toasts (heavier than what I would have made myself at home, but hey, we were on vacation!). We ate in the dining room at a large table with other guests. It was great making acquaintances over those few days; getting to see them in the mornings and compare notes about what we'd seen/done the day before. The location was great, we had no problem exploring local wineries and small towns in the area. At the suggestion of the owners, we visited a local civil war museum and battlefield which were truly fascinating. We even made it to Monticello! All in all it was a perfect stay, we would love to go back!!
