I've been practicing at The Yoga Garden since it opened. It is my home away from home. The Yoga Garden community is my second family. Everyone is welcome here. All experience levels and all fitness levels. There is no right or wrong posture at The Yoga Garden. You don't have to be "good at yoga" to get the good from the yoga at The Garden. It's about showing up, focusing on your breath, taking amazing yoga classes with phenomenal yoga teachers, amongst a community of kindhearted and loving individuals. All of the amenities are top-notch. An absolutely beautiful studio that is always clean and comfortable. The studio is easily accessible with a beautiful outdoor space for mingling after class. Quite a bonus is free ample parking; hard to come by in this community. I can't say enough good things about the Yoga Garden instructors. I had very little yoga experience before coming to this studio, but my wife Carol is a long-time student of yoga. When she started attending classes, she kept telling me how much she likes Steph, Raina, Jack, Martin, and really all of the instructors. Carol just turned 50, she had thought her daredevil days were over, but in the last six months she has been progressively doing more and more difficult poses. I don't think she had attempted a handstand since she was 5 years old. But yesterday I looked over as we were both in class; there she was, standing on her hands. At this point she is doing it without the support of a wall. I actually was not shocked because since she has been attending these classes her physical fitness and her willingness to try harder and harder poses has been inspiring. Before I was a student I began witnessing this transformation, and I got curious, so I decided to attend a class or two and see if it could work for me. I did have some yoga experience before this, but not much. I am the least flexible person in yoga class, maybe the least flexible person in all of Oakland County. If not Oakland County... Just kidding I'll stop. But no kidding; I am really, really, really, really inflexible. Somehow the instructors graciously overlook this fact and always meet me where I am at. That is the really great part about this studio. Whatever your level of fitness is they will meet where you are and make you stronger. This place can take you from 0-100. After a few months I am beginning to work on handstands myself. Believe me, I never thought I would be doing that. If you can't keep up with the class pace, all of the instructors encourage you to rest when you need it. I have never felt judged for this. You are constantly reminded to focus on meeting your own edge. There are tons of really fit people in these classes and I have gotten a lot of positive encouragement from several of them too. Carol and I moved from Seattle a few years ago, when we did, I basically quit exercising. That is because in the years I lived in Seattle I grew to love the mountains and I hiked regularly, I didn't really think of hiking as exercise despite the fact that the workout was great. I just loved being out in the mountains and hiking along with training for hiking in the offseason kept me physically healthy. I feel like I have finally found exercise that I enjoy again. It is really helping me deal with a stressful job, and with this stressful world we live in. P.S. The instructors aren't Woo-Woo. And I see this a positive, actually it's a must have for me. I've been going to the Yoga Garden for about 4 years now. I love everything about it. The studio is very inviting because it is warm and the lighting creates a peaceful place for you to workout The workouts are hard but it a good, healthy hard. They always offer different options to do things if you have aches and pains getting in your way. The instructors are wonderful and I really enjoy all them and their classes. They have special classes such as puppy yoga and who wouldn't love puppy yoga! They do company gathering, private classes and yoga retreats a few times a year. I love the teachers, prices, parking, clientele, and accepting atmosphere at The Yoga Garden. This studio is my home away from home. You can expect a consistently great experience, no matter who teaches, and no matter your yoga background. Raina's classes need to be experienced by anyone who practices yoga; she is truly a gifted teacher. Michael McCarthy's classes, especially his yin classes, are sublime and a terrific balance to the more energetic classes. Parking is close and free. Mat storage is reasonably priced. Mats, towels, hand towels, and water bottles are available for rent. Ample changing areas. Kindhearted, nonjudgmental, welcoming staff and clientele. I signed up to do an online class with Raina. She's very pretty but she has ZERO people skills. She was really rude to me when I asked a question about my posture. I'm pretty new to yoga and I'd heard great things about this place. I think it's safe to say that I won't be back. She has a lot to learn about customer service and how to cater to her newer clientele. read more

Best yoga studio I have had the pleasure of attending! Amazing instructors, variety of advanced and beginner classes as well as varying intensities/types of yoga, depending on what you're seeking out (workout, meditation, Yin, slow or fast flows). Everyone from the front desk, to instructors, and other yogi's are warm, friendly, and make the studio feel like home. Newly renovated and gorgeous space - always feels clean. Area in the back of the studio has yoga towels, apparel, etc for sale. Mats and towels can be borrowed for small fee, for those that don't have their own. Mat storage and cleaning available for yogi's wanting to leave theirs at the studio and not have to lug it around. A shower is available and two bathrooms -also, ample parking in lot (a huge plus for those used to living in places such as Ann Arbor like myself...). Occasional special events offered at the studio to deepen and expand your practice, as well as tropical destination yoga retreats hosted by Raina and Martin 2-3 times a year. I recently moved out of town and have been to multiple other yoga studios...but have yet to find a place that I love as much as The Yoga Garden. Try a class here and you won't regret it! read more

Told Raina my hip was hurting in her virtual class and that I didn't think I was flexible enough to do the pose. She laughed and said "no pain no gain" which seemed pretty un-yoga like to me so I pushed a little more. Think I hurt myself - we'll see... Would never trust these clowns. She thinks she's a leader of some cultish thing going on there but she's a total fraud with that kind of approach. Do NOT get sucked into this place. If you live in or near the town, this place is a MUST! Every teacher is skilled in their craft. Great classes for every level of yoga student. Instructors teach a safe and challenging class. I've tried almost every studio in the metro Detroit area and this is my favorite ! All the teachers are amazing and want to help students by challenging them and also keeping them safe and healthy. Everyone who works there remembers your name and welcomes you into the community. The studio is beautifully designed. I love the music they play in the classes. They offer candle lit classes in the evenings. Also It has easy and free parking which is actually very rare compared to other studios! Anything you need for yoga they have available for rent at the studio. I highly recommend this studio to anyone at any level of yoga experience! read more

Tucked away in the medical village - amazing studio with the most welcoming community -- flows are always unique and challenging for any level (even if you just need space to be child's pose for an hour you're welcome!). This was one of the least enjoyable yoga classes I've ever taken. Take that with a grain of salt because there are different teaching styles for everyone. Thomas, in my opinion, is much better suited to teach cross fit or spin class. His knowledge of yoga seemed lacking. That being said, it was a good sweat. read more

The Yoga Garden is not a just a studio, its a place to call "home." I love the variety of classes and the degree of experience each teacher brings to their class.
