I enjoyed my three months of training. I am in a higher place mentally and physically because of the training.

I truly look forward to coming to Ensoul's classes after a long day at work. I have only been a couple of times, and I'm so happy I've found a place I'm comfortable and at peace at. I am by no means an expert at yoga, far from it (ive been to about 10 classes in my life). The classes are challenging, and push yourself to be better and stronger with every class. I leave drenched in sweat and its so invigorating! Parking is a pain, but thats for any business located downtown. read more

I LOVE this studio! After trying several types of yoga classes in the past, I gave up on yoga because I didn't think it was for me. I thought I'd give it one more shot because EnSoul is very close to where I live, and I'm SO HAPPY that I did. I came to my first class without much experience, and felt very comfortable with the guidance of the classes. It didn't take many classes for me to become comfortable with the class styles & to figure out what I was doing. Logistics: There is usually plenty of parking in the public lot behind the studio. The studio is clean & welcoming. It has plenty of hooks and cubbies for personal items. It has a water bottle fill station. The website is great & easy to schedule classes. Classes: I love the variety of classes that are offered, and I really appreciate that they have early morning, "right-after-work", and evening classes. My schedule tends to be sporadic, but I still manage to make it to yoga. Teachers: I LOVE the teachers. I feel that they're all so positive, but also real people that I can easily relate to. I don't feel uncomfortable messing up a posture in front of them. I don't feel like I have to do things absolutely perfectly because they're very good at reminding us that yoga is a different practice for each person. That being said, I feel that when the teachers do make corrections, I've definitely felt immediate results. They're all very good at making corrections with just words. I also REALLY love that they all play great music & encourage some dancing during the class. It's so much more enjoyable when you can have fun! I wouldn't go anywhere else. I've found my center at EnSoul Yoga with an amazing, supportive community that encourages self-reflection and self-acceptance. They don't know it but practicing here helped me to recognize a toxic relationship and gave me the strength to leave and begin to heal. It's not just yoga, it's therapy! In addition, they offer a varied schedule which accommodates my10-hour work day. Each instructor brings something different (and awesome) to their class. I've been to every EnSoul format and haven't found one class I didn't benefit from. I encourage anyone - long-time yogis and beginners alike to give this studio a try. read more

Really not sure how to give stars for this studio since the good is very good and the bad is very concerning. The Good: studio is very warm and inviting, with a lot of cubbies for belongings, two bathrooms, and a water bottle refilling station. They also have taken steps to minimize the use of paper - so it's earth friendly! They also have a variety of mats for rental if you're new and don't know what to buy. I've had mats I wasn't a huge fan of in the past, so I've tried several and think I have finally identified what to buy for myself. More Good: Meaghan's Enfuse and Soulful classes (Monday and Saturday morning) and Han's Enfuse class (Tuesday morning) - Enfuse is directed by the instructor for a while and then students are given time to move through a series of poses suggested by the instructor at their own pace. Since I like to take poses more slowly, I take the time to do one rotation in the space many of my classmates would do two, and Meaghan and Hans are both fine with it. (If you're a beginner, they've said it's also fine to rest/restore during this and rejoin the group when direction picks up.) Soulful is fully guided, so the instructor walks the class through everything, and it's encouraged to keep eyes closed to savor the poses a little more. I highly recommend Hans' 6 am Tues class - the playlist and encouragement from him will get your day off on the right foot! The Bad: instructors won't necessarily ask before touching you. That said, they don't typically "fix" or "correct" by touching, even when the class isn't very full, even when students say that they're new or haven't practiced before. Both Meaghan and Hans have rubbed my back a little while I was resting in child pose, which I appreciated, especially when I was first returning to yoga after 4 years away and was struggling. Also, the studio gets VERY full on weekends, to the point that it isn't always possible to fully extend limbs, and the instructors don't seem great about capping class size or directing people to move their mats. I wish they'd be more assertive on this. Between these two factors, if your personal space is important to you (OR if you like being physically corrected to help you sink into the pose), this studio won't be a good fit. More Bad: logistics - the schedule and parking. My schedule is really erratic, and it's hard for me to get to yoga as much as I'd like. I'm hoping to see them add more sessions soon, since the studio opened relatively recently and I think they're figuring out when people will come. They need more weekend classes, and I'd like to see earlier classes on a lot of days. Parking can be tricky, but it's free on Sundays and before 10, so try the early or weekend classes if this is an issue. The Concerning: the owner, Caren, brings a lot of negativity to her sessions, criticizing herself, past students, and other studios. I also noticed her projecting feelings onto students that we may or may not actually have (such as that we blame other people for things in our life that are our own fault, or that we hate doing core work) - a practice I'm more sensitized to because of situations I've been in previously, and something I'm turning to yoga to try to overcome, not to be sent on flashbacks. She talks throughout the entire practice, sometimes so loudly and with such deafening music that it creates a sensory overload or makes it difficult to focus on either the pose or on the calm and energy many of us practice yoga for. I went to two separate classes with Caren hoping the first time was anomalous, but the second time confirmed that this is simply her personality - and at one point in the second class she seemed to discourage the use of blocks to modify a pose, a practice that can be greatly helpful to students with restrictions when the instructor helps them to modify correctly (in fact, she yelled a lot about modifying poses without telling us how to do so). Caren seemed to do infomercials for Ensoul and her "Life and Teacher Training" program, even in a class that was already bursting at the seams and clearly didn't need recruitment, and her speeches and announcements lacked focus. I'm sure starting a new business is stressful and she wants to make sure that the studio stays and can pay its bills, but it's a yoga studio, and sales pitches right after corpse pose are disruptive to the goals. Edit: I tried a third class with Caren, the Friday morning Sweetest Thing, and it was much better for my yoga goals than her Soulful and Enfuse classes. I'm planning to continue attending. Also a note: this studio isn't really for true beginners. There seems to be an expectation that students know most of the poses and how to get into and out of them. I'm really grateful that I practiced at a different studio years ago that helped me understand how poses should feel and how to distribute my weight safely. The Sweetest Thing class is the closest to a beginner class if that is what you're feeling. read more

I've been to EnSoul for about 7 classes now. Mostly on the weekends. I've done Rock EnSoul and it's my favorite. I love the enlightening messages that Caren has, and always feel geared toward me or there's something I can always take away that I learned something new about my self. I sweat, breathe, stretch, challenge my self or back off when I need to. I'm lucky I can walk here as parking can be a pain. This place is a really sweet soulful place to practice. I have been attending this studio since it opened in the Fall. I had practiced yoga on and off over the years and new some basic poses, but never consider myself seasoned. I enjoy the variety of classes offered and actually do enjoy taking all of them for different reasons. The soulful class is a guided class that flows together and holds poses longer. I would recommend this class to anyone that is new to yoga. My husband has attended this class with me as his very first class and really enjoyed it! The rock en soul class is a faster class in which you flow together and on your own. This class leaves me feeling energized and dripping in sweat. I enjoy Caren's playlists too which include many different genres of music. The sweetest thing class is a very slow and mostly stretching class. For my friends that are looking for a good stretch or have back issues, this class is best for them. The en fuse class is a mix between soulful and Rock em fuse. This class holds poses and then has mini flows during the classes. If you are a little too nervous to jump into the rock en soul, this class is a good start. All the teachers are very welcoming and are really passionate about yoga. This studio is about making your practice about you, they offer verbal guidance to help you into the pose but with rarely physically correct you. I like this because everyone is different and what may work for me may not work for you. The studio is warm, around 90 degrees give or take so bring a towel and water. The parking can be crowded during the week, try the street if the lot becomes full. read more

Being new to yoga, with limited exposure to other studios, I have found EnSoul to be extremely welcoming and inviting. Every class I have experienced has been excellent, and I look forward to going several times per week. I love Caren's (the owner), classes! They are so uplifting, encouraging and positive - and thought provoking. Caren speaks from her heart, sharing her personal experiences. I get so much more than yoga moves, from Caren and EnSoul. I feel so good about myself at the end of each class. I have enjoyed EnSouI so much, I have recommended it to several others, and hope my sister will come to experience one of Caren's classes with me. Attending EnSoul has enabled me to begin to learn about the teachings of yoga, in a very positive manner. I feel enlightened and energized at the end of Caren's classes! A couple little notes: Parking can be pain - at prime times. But, that happens anywhere there is a thriving downtown. There are yoga studios. Then there is EnSoul! Caren Paskel has created a studio that is warm, inviting to all. Her classes are for everyone; from the beginner to the "seasoned" yogi! She has teachers that are knowledgeable, friendly and caring. The classes are both inspirational and perspirational (my word). If you asked Caren if she wanted to own a Yoga Studio five years ago, she would have said, "Hell No!" But circumstances changed, and she pushed herself to change with them. So I've been waiting to write this review and I'm so excited to share! I joined EnSoul Yoga exactly 6 months ago...and I love it! Here's why... first and foremost i love the way I feel! Physically, mentally and spiritually my life has been enriched by making Yoga a regular and consistent part of my life. Until I joined EnSoul I had never really done Yoga before but somehow had a feeling it was gonna be my "spirit animal" of exercise and it's been that and more! The community at EnSoul is amazing... led by a diverse group of teachers there is someone and something for everyone and every type of body. If you've never done Yoga before or you are a seasoned practitioner...each and every class can work for you! I'm a girl who has struggled with weight issues, really bad knees, a dislike for "working out" etc. And yet here I am typically taking 5-6 classes a week! Not only has my body changed in amazing ways my mindset has as well... I simply feel great! And I'm certain you will too! I really can't say enough about the teachers and staff at EnSoul... I was recommended to this studio by a yoga loving friend who was a big fan of Caren (owner) and I can see why... she leads and teaches in a way that is evolved and inclusive of all the students no matter their level! I've taken classes with every teacher there and while I may have a fave or two or three I appreciate each one! The studio itself is warm (literally and figuratively), welcoming, lovely and convenient. Free parking before 9 and on Sundays! They offer a variety of classes that range from high energy (you will sweat) to more relaxed slower paced classes. They also offer regular workshops and special events...I joined with the "unlimited" classes per month option which also gives me discounts on those special events/workshops. I was new to yoga back in October. I came to this studio using a Groupon, and have met some amazing people; learned about what yoga is supposed to be about (both mentally and physically); and now instead of dreading yoga, I crave it. I am impressed by the variety of classes and instructors. They also care enough to ask if you have any injuries or limitations and let you know how to modify. The location is located in Downtown Funky Ferndale. Yes, the location is great if you want to do a little window shopping, grocery shopping at Western and then do an hour of yoga, this place is for you. The studio is nicely laid out, cute, clean, and cozy. The bad: it's located in Downtown Funky Ferndale, which can be very popular at times. During peak times you might have to circle around and around and around (soooo not relaxing) a few times to score a parking spot. Also, parking most of the time is not free, so add that into the cost of your class, and all of a sudden your yoga journey becomes pricier. As much as I want to like the place, the lack of no-charge, convenient parking makes it impossible in my opinion. Also, add on the fact that I was told my GroupOn classes never expire at their Grand Opening, then later I was told they expired after 120 days. I do not trust a business that says one thing and does something different -- definitely not a yogi-like move. So it is ok if you live in the area, like around the corner. If you live outside the area, you might find another studio with better parking options to your liking. UPDATE: The owner contacted me regarding the Groupon expiration issue, and she corrected the problem. For that positive response I upped the rating to four from three. I will give them another try. I knew Caren from another yoga studio. And would follow her anywhere! Not only does she guide a great workout, she shares a great"work-in" as she calls it. Always interweaving yoga philosophy seamlessly into her classes. This yoga philosophy intrigued me from the start. I attend her study groups and have attended her Life Training. And my life keeps getting better. It's not always easy, but the tools I have learned from Caren help me get through life's challenges with less stress and anxiety. I need the combination of physical yoga and yoga philosophy to keep me sane. Caren has been there for me one on one when Iife has seemed overwhelming. She is a great example of being of service to others without overextending herself. All of the teachers at En Soul Yoga embody this combination of the physical and mental yoga practices. Encouraging me to find my edge and get out of my comfort zone both on and off the mat. The studio has a great home-y feel and loving energy when you walk through the doors.
