There seem to be races almost every week. We arrived a few minutes late, but no worries as they were still doing the hot laps. Parking was easy in the gravel lot (PRO TIP: the closer you park to the track, the dirtier your car will be from all the dust). Paying by credit card adds a 5% fee. It was $15 per adult, but kids are free to enter. It wasn't too crowded, but general admission gets you in on the side with the sun in your eyes, so for the first hour, it was painful. But after that, it was amazing. Yes, dirt will be flying and it is loud! But it is so fascinating and we loved learning about the intricacies of the sport. I recommend sitting on the far right side so you can see the cars exiting the track. Concessions were reasonably priced and the same 5% credit card fee as the admission applies. The bathrooms are what you'd expect and the ground dirty. But they had a zamboni-like thing come around and clean the main walkway. There were fireworks afterwards that lasted longer than I thought they would.

It was very busy to say the least so all the seats that weren't reserved were already taken. We tried to find seats that weren't be used this night only to have to move 3-4 times. We went back to the ticket booth and explained the situation and the Very Helpful lady working the window ended up being one of the owners. She was so helpful and even drove us over to the other side of the track and took our number and text us a great pair of seats that were open. This was above and beyond customer service that she did not have to do but was VERY much appreciated. I will recommend Kokomo Speedway to everyone I know and share this story also. Thank you Very much Chris for your wonderful hospitality and running a top notch facility!

Yes, it's a small university, and if you're huge into giant sports games or activism, there isn't a lot of that (however, they appear to be expanding on these activities at a rapid pace). However, if you want to get a good education and pay much less, this is a great place to go. At a larger university, you get lost (both literally and figuratively) in the sea of people, and professors don't know who you are. They are often more concerned with their research than their teaching, and it shows. At IU Kokomo, that's not the case -- your professors are available and often eager to meet with you if you need guidance. Some of them have even acted as mentors to me, and I am still in contact with them. Not to mention -- the professors in the science department (among other departments, I'm sure) are such GREAT people. They are very open-minded and tolerant, and they want to see you succeed. They will sometimes even go above and beyond to help you reach your goals. I can't express enough thanks for that. I also worked here for a brief time as an adjunct professor. Again, I was treated with respect and met with enthusiasm. It's a nice feeling to work with such great people.

I went to some single A games in Virginia that were played on a high school field, so I was shocked when I arrived. It's a really nice facility, I was told IU Kokomo plays their games there. Not familiar with the ballpark, my experience started with buying tickets over the phone. I described the kind of seats I wanted, lady at ticket window provided exactly what I wanted; they were great seats!! The night I went was thirsty Thursday, so domestic beer was $2 for 12 Oz glass. Had a brat and eventually French fries. Parking was easy, may be a challenge if sold out. I had a blast!!!

Funk, people will come...They'll come to Kokomo for reasons they can't even fathom. They'll turn up the ballpark driveway, not knowing for sure why they're doing it. They'll arrive at the ticket gate as innocent as children, longing for the past. Of course, we won't mind if you look around, they'll say. It's only eight dollars per person. Folks'll pass over the money without even thinking about it. For it is money they have and peace they lack. And they'll walk out to the Umbrella Bar and the Backyard, and sit in shirt-sleeves on a perfect afternoon. Or they'll find they have reserved seats somewhere along one of the baselines, where they sat when they were children and cheered their heroes. And they'll watch the game, and it'll be as if they'd dipped themselves in magic waters. The memories will be so thick, they'll have to brush them away from their faces. People will come, Funk...The one constant through all the years, Funk, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It's been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt, and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game -- it's a part of our past, Funk. It reminds us of all that once was good in Kokomo and it could be again. Ohhhhhhhh, people will come, Funk. People will most definitely come. Apologies: Terence Mann

Kokomo, Indiana's Seiberling Mansion is a rather sublime sight to see during the holiday season…read more Serving as home for the Howard County Historical Society, the Seiberling Mansion was completed in 1891 and owned by Monroe Seiberling. Seiberling was an industrialist and entrepreneur who arrived in Kokomo alongside the late 19th century gas boom. He became wealthy, built several factories in the area, and followed all this up by building a rather remarkable mansion. Subsequent owners included Orange Darby, Rev. William Parr (namesake for Parr Methodist Church), real estate developer Franklin Miller, and George Kingston. Kingston was an inventor who invented the carburetor used in Henry Ford's Model T. When Kingston passed away in 1946, Indiana University bought the home and used it as the home of IU-Kokomo until 1964. For several years, the mansion remained empty. Finally, Howard County began looking for a way to move the county museum out of the courthouse. This ended up being a perfect arrangement and IU signed a long-term agreement to turn over the property for use as a museum. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1972, the Seiberling Mansion has both a Queen Anne and Romanesque Revival style. The house has three stories - eight rooms on the first floor, seven on the second floor, and a grand ballroom on the third floor. Parking is free. The parking lot entrance is behind the museum off West Walnut street. The front door is the main entrance, though the accessible entrance is at the rear of the house. It's important to note that only the first floor is actually accessible (there's no elevator), though there is a virtual video available on the first floor for the second and third floors. There are public restrooms on the first and second floors, though it should also be noted these are not wheelchair accessible. The museum is open Tuesday-Sunday from 1-4pm. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for K-12, and free for under age 5. The museum is a Blue Star Museum - this means active military and family members get in free from Memorial Day to Labor Day. They do have periods when they close - so checking their website is always a good idea just to be sure. The Seiberling Mansion can be rented for a maximum of 25 people. Rental rates on the website. The adjacent Elliott House is also available. While I always lament not having full access to places, with historic locations it's understandable and expected that access isn't going to be perfect. This is beautiful to see, though I'm not sure I can give it a full thumbs up for those with mobility issues since entry is $10 and you really only get to access one of three floors. That said, the virtual tour is pretty cool and the building itself is wonderful.
