    The small theatre.
    Norm K.

Theatre 40 productions are held in the Reuben Cordova Theatre on the campus of Beverly Hills High School. There is plenty of parking if you know how to get to the garage. As you head northwest on Moreno Drive past the front lawn of the high school, turn left into a small driveway across from Durant Drive. Follow this drive and it will make a left and bring you behind the building. There are signs to direct you and the entrance to the theatre is from the garage. The space is small probably seating less than 75 people at a guess. It's a very nice space, the seating is comfortable, and you'll have a good view from wherever you sit. I was here to see the play 'Kin' in its west coast premiere. The stage was sparse with scenery but the cast used the space well. It was interesting to see how the members moved some boxes to change the scene. The play was quite well acted. When I'm in Los Angeles again, I wouldn't hesitate to check what Theatre 40 was doing. From reviews of previous shows there, the company does a very credible job!

Came by to watch "Double Door" last night and enjoyed the show very much. I had no idea that this theatre was a part of a high school building and although that may seem a bit discouraging being the fact that it's within a high school, I was very much pleased with the cleanliness and decor of the theatre. Never jude a book by its cover they say (: I parked on the corner of Moreno & Durant not knowing that there was a parking structure that had free parking, but the walk was fairly nice being able to see the campus (very nice high school) realizing the theatre was next to the science building, I made my way up the stairs to the 2nd floor where the theatre is located. The theatre seating is so cozy, I was not expecting it to be so intimate being up close to the actors and actresses but I loved the fact that it was so up front. The theatre is not big and seats maybe a max of 100 people by estimate. The theatre seats looked brand new and were very comfortable. The set was beautiful, being that it was based in the early 1900's, the decor was absolutely gorgeous. Antiques and props that looked so vintage were used for the set and the furniture laid out was nice. The show itself was amazing, felt in tune with the cast and left me on the edge of my seat little by little as the end came near. Overall, comfortable seating, free parking, friendly environment, great shows! Would definitely go back!

Theater 40 is a small 99 seat theater located in the Reuben Cordova Theater on the campus of Beverly Hills High School. A friend and I came to this theater for the first time a couple months ago. It was interesting in an odd sort of way, to be standing around in a High School hallway waiting for the theater to open their doors. Not that it brough back any bad memories from my high school days.... LOL Being it has just 99 seats with 3 (main) rows, I don't think there's a very bad seat in the house. The production we saw (Dreams of the Washer King) was extremely convoluted, confusing and difficult to follow, however the production quality itself was awesome! The detail of the set design, the actors performances, the lighting, the sound, everything flowed very smoothly as if a much larger theater company. While the actual theater entrance is INSIDE the hallways the high school, they do have very good signage showing where to park and how to find the theater. Theater 40 is a nice little theater that feels much larger due to the production quality and professionalism.

Sandro Monetti created an amazing play with Marilyn and Sinatra.

The play was amazing, and I'd highly recommend seeing it if you get the opportunity. Big thanks to Michael K. for alerting us to the show, which we otherwise wouldn't have known about. Parking was easy and cheap, $5 for a matinee show (apparently $8 for evening). We cut it close and arrived just a few minutes before the 2:00 start time, but we were apparently in good company and got to our seats well before curtain. We were stopped just outside the theater by a group of IATSE protestors, who handed out flyers asking patrons to pressure management to give the Wallis crew a fair contract. According to this flyer (and I can't find anything else about this online), the Wallis has been bargaining with the union for six months and pays crew below standard wages for Los Angeles County. If anyone at Wallis is reading this Yelp review, consider it my email in support of the union. You're a theater named for a billionaire heiress. Pay your people. The theater was nice and the production was fantastic. Our seats were in the mezzanine, and we had a great view of the stage. Loved the set design, which involved a single classroom structure on a rotating platform. The performances were amazing, as was everything else that went into the production. I hope the Wallis does right by its crew so they can keep putting on top notch theater. I get their emails now and have not yet unsubscribed, as I'd like to know what other shows they have in the pipeline.

A hidden gem. Let's jump right into this review…read more The Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles is a renowned, non-profit theater known for intimate productions of classic and contemporary plays, new works, and educational programs. Two main spaces, the 500-seat Gil Cates Theater and the smaller Audrey Skirball-Kenis Theater. My son and I attended a play - Table 17 and sat in the balcony box of the Gil Cates Theater. Box seats $139pp Pros 1. Very nice venue. An intimate space with every seat being a good seat. Great acoustics also. 2. Bathrooms are clean and grounds are well-kept. 3. Small bar area that sells food items and drink, including alcohol. 4. Patio area and seating in the lobby if you arrive early. Doors usually open 1 hour before showtime. Theater doors open 30 minutes before curtain time. Cons 1. Parking can be a challenge but not impossible. Metered street parking. Use the text to pay function because you can add additional time from your phone and receive reminders via text when your time is about to expire. There are also paid parking lots within walking distance. Prices will vary. I was impressed with Geffen Playhouse and will definitely be back. BTW - Table 17 was an amazing play - funny, thought provoking, and an attention grabber.

I have seen so many amazing plays here over the years and recently saw the play, "Master Harold"...and the boys and it was just as fantastic as I imagined it would be! It was very well acted and directed with a gorgeous set design. I really felt transported to another time while watching the play! The lobby and courtyard are gorgeous and while they are small and get crowded quickly, they are still enjoyable to relax before or after the play! We came on a Sunday thinking there would be complimentary wine (which there definitely used to be!), but sadly it seems they have discontinued this. The seats were comfy and pretty spacious and since the theaters are smaller here, every seat offers a great view. The sound amplifies well throughout the theater. The staff were very friendly and courteous. Parking can be a little tricky in the area but they do have a lot next door! We were able to find a free spot a few blocks away in the neighborhood! There's lots of restaurants nearby to dine at before or after the show as well! I cannot wait to return soon to see another play here!

Ample nearby parking about one block away for $10. The line to buy soda and potato chips (by the men's room side upstairs) was short. But the line for alcohol and more food choices was so long (women's restroom side but looping around the place) that you couldn't even get close enough to see your options (25 minutes before the show). The bad things (really bad) unless you get a seat very close to the stage): From our seats ("front balcony" center row J - and there were about 500 people behind us!!) we were so far away that we could barely see a thing. Certainly you could see faces let alone expressions. And a magician that you can't see!? Really?? There are solutions for this - eg in Londons West End) there are binoculars for lease on every other seat. OR you can have cameras installed (Saban have) and then project on to the huge screen above the acts. In pics you can see that they have indeed done just that!! But not last night since the big screen just showed Netflix ad and charity logo. Very sad for the audience From our seats it was only possible to hear about 50% of the comedy routines - even with my AirPods at max volume - and Mrs G's hearing is perfect and she had the same experience. So yup it was kinda good, the theatre architecture great. Was it really good? No. Was it worth the price. No? Would we go again - only if we could seats VERY close to the stage or be assured that it will be projected on the big screen. Otherwise (sadly) no...
