There is no dedicated parking structure, at least that we could find! There is plenty of street parking on surrounding blocks, but pay attention to signage, as some is permit only parking! The space itself is adorable: a small lobby with refreshments, updated gender neutral private toilet spaces, and a theater that boasts the most intimate setting to get lost in the show. Now, I would say there isn't a bad seat in the house because it's so intimate BUT the way the upper balcony seats are arranged, if you get a spot against the wall, you will have an almost entirely obstructed view by others seated in front of you. These tickets are noted on the website as obstructed, and I usually roll the dice since they are cheaper, but I'd say avoid at all costs unless you are seven feet tall ;) The acoustics were brilliantly clear for an older space and even in the side balcony, I felt like the actors were right in front of me! I went to the Guthrie Theater for the first time this week to see Waiting for Godot, and this was…read moredefinitely my first visit but not my last! Our show started at 7:30, and I would absolutely recommend arriving well before 7 if it's your first time. The Guthrie is an experience beyond just the show, and there's so much to explore before you even get to your seat. We had time to check out the Amber Room, step outside onto the balcony, take pictures, and just wander around the building. There's also a restaurant on site and a bar where you can grab drinks and snacks. I really appreciated that there was plenty of space throughout the lobby to sit and lounge before the performance rather than feeling like you needed to immediately head into the theater. The employees were incredibly friendly and even gave us recommendations for things to check out before the show. The building itself has a very modern feel, which was a fun change for me since I'm more accustomed to traditional theaters. I also really enjoyed the design of the theater and how the stage extended into the audience. It felt like there were good sightlines from a variety of angles and made the performance feel much more intimate. We happened to attend on an especially fun night because it was opening night and the kickoff to the new season. After the show, they completely transformed the downstairs lobby into a party! There was a DJ, photo booth, snacks, and drinks available for purchase. At one point it genuinely felt like we were in a club rather than a theater, and I loved it. Overall, such a fun first experience at the Guthrie. Come early, give yourself time to explore the building, and don't treat it as just a place to see a show--the venue itself is part of the experience. I'm already interested in coming back for another production!

There are some things I miss about the place that disappeared over the years like some of the bars that you could just stop in at even if you weren't coming for a show. Really well done show. You cannot beat the Guthrie for theater.

Majority of the seats have a warning on their website that the legroom is nonexistent. There are some blind spots to be aware of, and the box seating definitely misses much of the side stage. We used A View From My Seat to see what each seat is like before we booked seats for Cursed Child, and am so glad we did. It was like sorting through a landmine trying to find a seat that had decent views in our price point and getting an aisle spot to the legroom didn't affect us as much. The seats are extremely tight, not much leg room and a bit uncomfortable after a while. I feel like the guides weren't very helpful at getting people to their seats. I I'm still not sure where they label the sections, I had to ask several people and that made some other people realize they were in the wrong seats/section. The lobby opens 1 hr before the show but the doors to be seated don't open until 30 min prior. I suggest getting there 15-20 min before the show starts for smoother entry. You will still have time to grab a drink and find your seats without the hassle of the pre show crowd. It was so chaotic. The drinks are spendy for what you get but they don't take tips so I guess it somewhat evens out. You can request a lid for your drink which for me is a must in these crowded spaces. Not my fav theatre but the if there's a play I'd like to see, I'd go here!

Prices on beverages were a little wild considering the amount we received ($16+ for less than half a glass of Sauvignon Blanc) and the additional 18% automatically tacked on. I wish expectation for photos was more clearly marked. I didn't see anything when I went in (I definitely could've missed it). The instructions provided by the security (?) of no video but ok with photo was confusing when they came back a second time to say no more photos.

The lighting effects that they can create on the back wall are gorgeous and can create many different moods. I love that they have a little bar just off to the side of the theater, so you can grab a cookie and an adult beverage before the show or during intermission. As far as sightlines go, there isn't a bad seat in the place. It's sufficiently sloped that the heads of the people in front of you don't get in the way. Even on the mezzanine level, it's further away from the action but you can still see everything. However, this is about the only negative thing I can say about the space: they pack the seats tightly together, and they're narrow. For one show I attended, I was wedged in between two men and their shoulders were touching me for pretty much the whole show. If you're claustrophobic or just need your personal space, spring for the VIP tables in the front (if the show you're seeing offers them). Make sure to allow plenty of time for parking (and optionally walking from wherever you park). The lot across the street is convenient, but there can be a line to get in and/or pay at the pay station.

I felt the $50 ticket price was a little steep (you can get tickets at the big theathers for this price), though I suppose our seats in the 6th row left center were far better than what I could get for $50 at the Orpheum. Be sure to get there early (30-45 minutes) if you want front row seats in the middle--tickets are general admission and seats are first come, first serve. The cast was phenomenal (with one exception). The characters were cast perfectly, vocals rocked, and the band was great. This was actually my first time seeing Rent, but a few friends have seen a it a few times and felt this was the best "Maureen" performance. We were all disappointed with Mimi--she wasn't a bad actress, but for a such a major role, her singing was weak and her fellow castmates overshadowed her. She sounded out of breath, quiet, and missed her high notes in "Let's go out tonight". Definitely worth checking out.
