No food at issue here, though one pro tip I can share is the line for cocktails was significantly shorter downstairs. A gorgeous old theatre, the Pantages is a fine venue but with an entertainer with a heavy Scottish accent, it was occasionally hard to make out Craig from our balcony seats. Gorgeous and intimate theatre! I didn't realize this stunning spot was nestled in the middle of downtown Minneapolis! I've driven by it several times but never realized how beautiful it was internally. We appreciated the usher's passion for the theatre itself. They shared insight into some of the historic figures who have graced this stage as well as their excitement for what's to come in the coming months. Prices on beverages were a little wild considering the amount we received ($16+ for less than half a glass of Sauvignon Blanc) and the additional 18% automatically tacked on. I wish expectation for photos was more clearly marked. I didn't see anything when I went in (I definitely could've missed it). The instructions provided by the security (?) of no video but ok with photo was confusing when they came back a second time to say no more photos. read more

While the blocks surrounding the Pantages are not particularly salubrious, the theater itself is fine for a concert. We had tickets for a "Here Come the Mummies" performance. I'm 75 and was comfortable enough. Drinks and merchandise were sold in the lobby. The bathrooms downstairs were relatively clean and accessible. Acoustics were good, but the Mummies are loud. All things considered, I would return to the Pantages for a concert if a good band was playing. It ain't the Dakota or the Guthrie, but the Pantages fits a need in Minneapolis. read more

I was very much looking forward to a comedy performance tonight. I bought the tickets long ago and was so excited. This review is NOT about the performance. It is about the horrid sound system. I saw Mike Birbiglia here several weeks ago and here are my thoughts: Positives: The theater is beautiful inside and outside. Very cool interior decorations and a nice old school theater sign on the outside. Also, even though I bought some of the worst seats in the theatre, my view was still great and unobstructed. I could see and hear Mike clearly which I find is a common issue at big shows like that. Negatives: It was horrible weather (negative temp and raining) and the ticket checkers were not moving quite fast. We were stuck outside waiting to get in for a while. The bathroom is in the lowest level so I had to walk down like 3 flights of stairs to use the bathroom which wasted time while moving fast is a necessity for a show! Overall, still really enjoyed the venue and would definitely come back for another show if something interests me. read more

The Pantages theater is an icon downtown and hosts lots of fabulous shows! It's nearby a bunch of great restaurants like Murray's, Oceanaire, and the Union Rooftop. We saw the Potted Potter this weekend, featuring a comedy duo taking us through a creative retelling of all 7 Harry Potter Books! I recommend showing up close to your showtime and not too early, since there is limited space to socialize or hang out. There is a bar serving simple packaged snacks and drinks, otherwise you'll go directly into the theater to your seats. There are metal detectors and bag checks coming in, and the staff are very helpful in making sure you can easily find your seats. read more

This theater is absolutely stunning. We really weren't sure what to expect with the Covid situation and so we arrived almost an hour early expecting to experience long waits with showing proof of vaccination, social distancing, etc. etc. We were pleasantly surprised that they were completely prepared with lots of staff who knew what they were doing. They had three bars open so while there were usually lines, the lines were never more than 10 or so people which is saying some thing for a packed theater of hundreds. We had managed to score 3rd row seats, so I would say my only disappointment is that they added two rows of extra chairs in front of the "first row" seating area. Of course, those folks got to experience the fun interactions with the comedian that we had hoped for. Bummer. read more

I'd never been to this theater before but was drawn here for Neil Young. I was pleased to find a lovely old-school theater. It's that old tall auditorium that has a pretty sharp incline in the balcony. It's well-maintained and really liked the vibe of the place. Acoustics were good, drinks were fine, ushers were friendly and helpful. I will say that my one complaint was that the amount of space between rows is super tiny. It's like being on an airplane. I had to deal with the guy behind me bumping my head with his leg all night. But it's an old theater. There's just really not much you can do about it except know going in. read more

I have never been to this theater so I don't know how good the facility is. However, the ticket-buying experience I just endured was obnoxious and ridiculous and a rip-off. When I was re-directed from the theater's web site to a ticket site, I bought three tickets. Then I learned that someone else in the family wants to come and I tried to buy another ticket. I went back to the site I had used for the first purchase and was offered a $15 discount for signing up for emails. I did so and received a promo code. When I tried to use the code, it didn't work. So I decided it was a bait and switch scam and I decided I wasn't going to buy the 4th ticket. I would give my ticket to the other family member and be done with it. Then I received multiple emails with the same promo code and asking me if I still wanted the ticket. The emails offered a phone #. I tried it. Spoke with three different people who didn't seem to have any interest in helping me buy a ticket, let alone use a promo code. The third person (I was transferred multiple times) tried to sell me a ticket for the same section I had selected online for $30 more. I refused. Then I checked online about buying tickets at Pantages again and realized that there were multiple companies handling tickets. I tried another one, bought a ticket in the same section for $60 (!) less than I was quoted by the other ticketseller. So here is my gripe: why the heck is the theater management allowing this? It should direct us automatically to the cheapest seller. This has been such a crappy experience I will not look at the Pantages programs again. I feel I have been abused by the theater. I don't need to put up with this kind of nonsense. read more

Much of the audience's interaction was below the balconies so we couldn't see the interactions. The music and different scenes were not good performances. The Pantages Theatre is located on Hennepin Avenue, basically next door to Seven Restaurant/Lounge. It has a small lobby, a lot of stairs and the restrooms are unfortunately aaaaaaaalllllllllll the way in the lowest level of the place. Unfortunately my seat was in the balcony. This was my first time at this theatre, I did find it to beautiful on the inside and I enjoyed my balcony view. The seats are angled well, where you dont have to worry not seeing over someone's head,however, they are so close, there wasn't a lot of leg space. ....and I'm short. I've been to this theater about 4 times and although I like it (overall) there are a few things about the space I wish could be improved. Stadium style seating on the main level would be great (can't recall what it's like on the balcony level). Instead the seats are more like that of an elementary school auditorium which results in issues seeing the entire stage when someone tall sits in front of you. The front entrance/lobby is small and with the bar right in the middle it seems tiny. Given there's a bar on the lower level, I'm sure they could do without this one. Lastly, with the lobby being so small, there's only two ticket booths right in the front on the left side of the room. With that being said if you have tickets at will call, be sure to arrive well before your performance just in case the line is long. Fortunately despite these downfalls , I'm sure I'll be back for another performance (hopefully no one tall is in front of me). read more

My wife and I took the bimonthly tour of the Pantages for $5. We had a group of about 30 of us and our tour guide was awesome. She showed us all the cool stuff like 2 busts along the wall that had their eyes closed, which were the two architects. She also told us how in the 80's it was a church and the covered up all the historic nudes, but thankfully did not destroy them. The nude murals along the wall are true pieces of art and they even did a fresco inside the stage area, which is right above the stage. The bronze statues along the side of the stage are those of muses with stage pieces in their hands, which I have never seen before. Just beautiful. A great tour, and if you are looking for a great date, this would be a great lunch date and head off to northeast Minneapolis and grab a pizza at Element Pizza and walk over to Dangerous Man Brewing and have a pint or two! read more

I'll admit; I'm not a theatre person. I attend a few plays here and there, but wouldn't consider myself a conistent patron of the theatre. Thanks to complimentary tickets we saw HIGH last evening. Very impressed with the layout of the theatre. The seats were excellent and I agree with another reviewer about there not being a bad seat in the house. From what I observed, all of the seats looked pretty good. Decent leg room and I lucked out with an aisle seat. Ushers were friendly. Tickets at the will call window were received with no hitches. Depending on the play; I may return. Parking on 7th street was nice and close to the theatre. $5.00 after 4pm. Thanks Annie and Pantages for the complimentary tickets! read more

My first visit to Pantages was meh. My observation was that Pantages is a beautiful theatre. However, I feel that my rating is pertaining more so to the performance. My friends and I went to see The Night Before Christmas. Staff appeared slightly unorganized with getting people in the door. There were limited ticket scanners with a large amount of people. The performance itself was difficult to hear and sitting in the back was an awful experience. My group sat in the back left balcony and found it difficult to hear the performers. Not to mention we were not provided with a copy of the program prior to being seated. I'd visit Pantages again to assess if my poor experience was more related to the performance itself and not the theatre prior to passing full judgement. read more

I saw a comedy show here on a Saturday evening. It was easy and quick to get through the bag check and ticket scanning, then we got a reasonably priced drink and the bartender was extremely friendly and helpful. The usher was too! I understand this place is old which is definitely part of its charm but there are downsides. The only bathrooms are on the absolute bottom floor which was inconvenient since we were in the balcony, second row from the top. The sound wasn't the best and there were times I struggled to understand exactly what was said. Finally, there is absolutely no room in the seats whether it's for your legs or arms. With that being said, I would probably go back if the tickets were inexpensive and I could get a seat closer to the stage. read more

The attendant working the balcony area was overly aggressive regarding having a mask on while seated. Everyone in my group was complying to the rules. But when taking a drink or eating food it is impossible to have a mask on. There was two times where I took my mask down to drink my beverage which costed $17 for one drink by the way, and the attendant threatened to kick me out of the venue if I did not keep my mask on my face. I have no idea why he singled me out, while they were people in his eyesight of me who never put their mask on while seated and they weren't even eating or drinking. Please help this attendant how to treat people with respect- we were all just following the rules set in place by the Theatre. Was here for the first time last night and was impressed by this venue! The seats do not feel cramped, and the architecture is out-of-this-world. It has a vintage feel that I absolutely adore. There's no way that there is a bad seat in the house, as everything was pretty close to the stage. There were just a couple of things that could be improved. The main issue for me is the lack of bathrooms (only one each for men and women). The one set of bathrooms is on the lower level, so people in the balcony are forced to walk down quite a few stairs to use the facilities. The other weird thing is the layout of the lobby. There is a bar right in the middle, which forces security to smush over to either side. It just isn't the best use of space and gets pretty cramped when there's a crowd. Despite the minor inconveniences, I definitely see myself returning to this venue in the future. read more

The Pantages is just about as awesome as it gets. Could the lady at the ticket counter have given me a more enthusiastic greeting? Sure, but that doesn't matter. My hubs and I went to Matt +Dan Wilson last Friday, and we had a thoroughly lovely experience. The flow of foot traffic was totally manageable, the sound was impeccable, and our sight lines were unobstructed. One of THE most appreciated luxuries was having wine, beer, and alcohol (and tasty NA drinks, too!) available to take back to your seats - in fact, there's no stiff standing around in a crowded lobby while everyone waits in line for the bathroom because you are instructed to take your snacks back to your seat. The bartender was friendly and was sweet enough to answer some of our questions (I'm really annoying when I'm inquiring about wines) AND they have something other than candy! They had locally roasted Salties and Smokies, these delectable almonds that are either...you guessed it...sweet or smoky. Me and my freakish obsession to healthy food rejoiced at that sight! This night just got even MORE perfect. Okay, fine, there were these really obnoxious drunken middle-aged ladies reliving their Trip Shakespeare years by yelling, "Take off your shirt" toward the stage (no, the Wilson bros did NOT go all Magic Mike on us.), but aside from the inevitable scattering of some obnoxious people having a little too much fun with a lot too little regard for other people this venue was perfection. The architectural details are gorgeous and provided entertainment for us while we were waiting for the show to start, and was the perfect background for my obligatory Instagram (so irritating, I know. I'm working on it.). While it's true that I have a REALLY, really soft spot in my heart for those Wilson brothers, I know I would have enjoyed this theater without the added bonus of seeing them perform. A few more smiles from the non-bartending staff and I'd have absolutely nothing to complain about (except the uncontrollable annoyances...like drunk ladies screaming). read more

I wish I had been in an opera gown with my opera glasses, opera gloves... etc. It's just too gorgeous. The molding, the gilt fixtures... everything. OH. Now that I've had my architecture-gasm, I have to say that the seats in back did not look good at all. I was about 6th row-ish so I heard everything just fine, but when I went to the loo, I noticed it was sort of hard to hear in the very back. It has to be said - this might be the best acoustics in the Twin Cities. From Aby Wolf's opening notes to Emeli Sande's closing ones, we were mesmerized by how good it all sounded. Loud, but crisp and clear, even in the back of the theatre. As a bonus, staff are very friendly (smiley even). Seats were comfortable and there was actual legroom. I don't know if that extra legroom is what sets up for perfect viewing of the stage, but even with tall people right in front of us, we had no problem seeing. read more

Came here for Dylan Moran's comedy set in October. Absolutely gorgeous space inside and felt really intimate, even at the back of the section. The staff was friendly and helpful and the seats were pretty comfortable for looking pretty old. I couldn't help snapping photos of the inside though as it's completely carved out and intricate as things in the 1900s were. "They don't built 'em like that anymore," is a completely accurate statement. I can't wait to see another concert here. read more

Pretty cool theater. The plus side is that you get a clear view of the stage wherever you are seated. The down side is that some of the seats could have really limited leg room, and you don't know about it until you get your ticket. We held our graduation at the Pantages Theater, and I was very impressed with how well venue has been maintained. It's a beautiful theater and they made us all feel very welcome. We bought 3 tickets for Raffi ($180) for my 2 year old, husband and myself. We couldn't find a babysitter for our 6 week old so I just decided to wrap him in a carrier and ware him. At the door we were told we needed a ticket for my six week old!! We didn't have a car seat or stroller so it's not like we were taking up extra space. They said we could buy the cheapest ticket and then I could come in. We were so put off by the fact that they would want money for a six week old that we left. I'm so glad my daughter's first experience at a theatre was so positive. Plus we had to walk through a crowd outside the theatre where we heard the N word multiple times, b***h, and mother f***er. This was at 3:30 on a Saturday. Won't be going to a show for kids here ever again!! read more

It's a really pretty theatre, a little confusing since it's sister theatres are close by and they have signs on them saying "Pantages Theatre" so we went to the wrong place at first. We saw Potted Potter here and I would have to say they overpriced the tickets. The show itself was pretty good, but I couldn't help feeling like they charged us $200 for two tickets and it should have been $100 for two tickets, which may not have been the theatre's fault, but it was still frustrating. They had a specialty drink for the show that was super tasty, and if they do that for all their shows then kudos to them, because that's impressive. Overall the experience was fine. They kept moving us around before the show started, I assume because they didn't sell out, but we got decent seats anyway after we were moved the first time. The staff seemed a little disorganized at first but they did kinda pull it together by the end. Anyway, the theatre is fine, not the best place I've ever been, but not the worst read more
