Theater Works is the Peoria Center for the Performing Arts resident theatre company. This is a hidden gem. This show was spectular. The talent, humor, singing was superb. We were fortunate to sit in the 3rd row but there is not a bad seat here. The ticket prices are reasonable. This performance was amazing. Parking was plentiful and right by the theatre. I surprised my wife with tickets to see A Christmas Carol yesterday. I bought the tickets online quite sometime ago. First, we were supposed to attend the show on 12/03, but had to cancel due to a family emergency. I called the box office and they exchanged the tickets to 12/17 for no charge and no fuss whatsoever! It was so awesome!! How often will an event holder do that for a show ticket or concert ticket?! ...NEVER!! Their customer service is so awesome!! So their parking lot lot is tiny as they explain in the email I received the day before the show, however, there is TONS of ample parking all around the venue - including a couple of park 'n rides you can use free of charge. The theater lobby itself is incredibly clean and everyone is so friendly and accommodating. They even serve beverages and cocktails when they open the doors an hour before the performance. It's awesome! There honestly is not a bad seat in the house, but we were right up front in the 2nd row. The show washed absolutely incredible and my wife and I both loved it. The actors were amazing and everyone was brilliant. For a local community theater, the production and overall quality of the entire show was impressive. The best part is it's right in the heart of Peoria and so conveniently located. No real con to the overall experience except the seating was just a bit uncomfortable and packed you in relatively close - but definitely nothing that would hinder me from attending another show. Please take a moment to review their website and see what strikes your fancy. They produce shows throughout the entire year and I'm certain there's at least one you'd be interested in. Especially if you live in Peoria as we do. I'm embarrassed to admit this was our first time here, but will most definitely not be our last. Highly recommended!! read more

The main stage is nice, they have good youth theater shows, it's just there youth theater program Theater Alive kids.... If you put your kid in either the child or teen cast they will be fine, but for shows that have both children AND teens??? It's a disaster. Directors have to yell at kids just for them to stop making trouble. 2 kids almost bit each other, and backstage before a show was SOO loud my daughter had a panic attack, Gladly switched her to Art and Sol in Scottsdale and she's doing a lot better now. Please either hire new directors that know how to ACTUALLY handle kids, or put the bad kids in there place, this is not the type of environment for a child to grow in. read more

Attended for a performance of Newsies. Sat in the back center section and had a fine panoramic view. It was absolutely wonderful. You'd think they were professionals, but how great is it that young people are doing such great things bonding together and creating something so many can enjoy?! It was so uplifting to see a stage full of triple threat talented young men and women who not only had the choreography down but could actually do some acrobatics and had wonderful attitudes when I went to talk with them after the show. Some of the musical numbers have the power of some of the ensemble pieces in Les Mis--and why shouldn't they? The same spirit of the trod upon masses finally rising up. Of course I loved the true historical root of it all too. Wm. Randolph Hearst is mentioned and Pulitzer plays a major role. Teddy Roosevelt makes an appearance as governor of NY. All sorts of great touches, like using the aisles so we felt more in the midst when the rally of newsies started, a real printing press was used, projections were sometimes used to show what was being typed onstage, papers dropped down from above us, and although it was a simple set, it was used creatively and with only slight modifications to be a juvenile detention center, a rundown neighborhood like those around an elevated train, or a newspaper headquarters. You'll leave feeling hopeful and empowered having seen how the powerless can be empowered if they pull together to do great things like the newsies did. And you'll leave have seen young people doing great things by getting together and performing this play for us! There is hope for the world. read more

We were here this past weekend for Curiouser and Curiouser too and nearly my entire group of 9 was blown away (it was a bit too sensory-intense for a friend). We weren't really sure what to expect and it was a truly fantastic theatrical experience. The way entire theater has been transformed is one of the most creative things I've ever seen. The ingenuity of the costuming and sets was unreal. The only regret I have is that the experience doesn't allow time or attention to look at everything there is to see (which might be part of the point and I get that). It was SO MUCH FUN. We found out at the end that the director was in our showing group! Had we known this earlier, we probably would have bombarded the man with questions. If shows were still available, I just might go again and I will absolutely go if they do another iteration of this (and have at least 7 others who will go!). It was phenomenal. Great job! read more

I paid a few hundred dollars for 2 of us to attend Cats. No one handed us a program at door, but as we waited for show to begin, others around us were looking at Cats programs. At intermission, my daughter went to lobby, and asked for 2 programs (she's 23, not 5), but they'd only give her one. At end of show, I asked older woman usher for a program. She looked at the one in my daughter's hand, looked back at me, and said no. Wow. I'll not be returning, and beware actors, they're keeping your experience from the patrons. For all I paid, no program allowed. My first time ever experiencing this, highly disappointed. I can forgive the technical glitches in 1st half, of large moon suddenly going to 1/4 moon, then 3/4 moon, back to full moon, then half moon, over and over for at least a half hour., wiggling all over the place. Very distracting. But at least allow patrons a program: Go to a theater that allows 1 program per person. read more

If you can, buy tickets to see Lion King Jr. The performances, staging and music is terrific. Saw it today with modest expectations and the entire family loved it. Our grandkids hardly said a peep during the show. They were mesmerized! read more

We seen the interactive Alice in wonderland/curiouser.!!! Was absolutely amazing we had a blast. I have seen a number of shows, This was definitely in the top five. Hope there's more interactive shows to come. read more

This is my second time here. I took my twin sister for the first time and she loved it. We saw The Christmas Carol this year and it was amazing. The theater is extremely clean and very nice. The props were really good and the transitions during the play were unnoticeable. The actors were great and very professional. Loud, so you can hear them. I like that no matter where you sit you get a great view of the stage. It's hard to explain unless you go to see the seating yourself but no seat is far from the stage. You're able to see everyone and thing perfectly. Consider purchasing a membership if you like this sort of entertainment. It's well worth it. Merry Christmas :) read more

I really hesitate to write reviews that aren't very flattering to a business but, my frustration with this particular organization got the better of me. I am an actor. I auditioned for a play at this theater in July of last year (I know, it;s been a half year but the story begs telling because it happened to another person recently who didn't want to say anything.) It was a very fun play with plenty of meaty rolls for women which I'm finding, is rather hard to come by here in Arizona. I moved here from Southern California a few years ago and decided to try and connect to a theater group. I live in Central Phoenix now but, a quick check of theater reviews led me to this theater which looked like a great space to get my feet wet again. Hence, my experience and, the auditions for "Red Velvet Cake Wars." I was invited to come to a callback after a general audition. I was told it was a four hour window from 1pm to 5pm. The lobby was hot and stuffy and there were many women who were waiting to audition who it was obvious, were familiar with one another. I waited to audition while the same women were called in time and time again to read. I was there two hours and had been asked to read ONCE! A total of two sentences. After requesting to read for another part, I was called in at 330 pm to read. ONE line. By 445, hot and frustrated and just plain discouraged after watching the same group of women enter and exit their reads, I just left. This is not to question any casting choices, I'm sure the cast was good. I would caution this theater and the directors to be a little more considerate of peoples time. After all, auditions aren't paid. We're there because we want to share our talents. I would have appreciated a heads up two hours earlier so as not to have to beg for a reading when the choices were likely already decided. read more

The Youth Performance of Robin Hood was very unexpected . . . but funny, silly (in a good way), and it kept moving. This creative production used the honesty of the players to step out of character and really connect with the audience (who, by their laughter and applause, definitely appreciated it.) The scenery and lighting were also well done and well timed. My personal favorite surprise was the sudden surprise emergence of the song "Walk Like A Man!" The new production of Curiouser and Curiouser that I attended last night was one of the most amazing events I've ever experienced in years of going to the theater! The performances were excellent, the costumes were fabulous, and the sets were so imaginative and detailed as to be almost indescribable! With small groups of gloved and masked audience members walking to each scene set throughout the entire theater, where they interacted with the actors, the traditional format was tipped on it's head in a manner perfect for Wonderland. read more

We came to see Seussical the Musical with our granddaughter and it was a great show! The cast did a wonderful job of singing and telling the story of Horton and The Who's. Our granddaughter is not even quite five months yet and she was enthralled with the bright costumes and dynamic music. The staff was great and offered to take pictures at the selfie station. It is a great theater and we had such a great time we are contemplating season tickets. I hear they also do puppet shows for littler ones and I'm excited to look into those as well! read more

Wow! Wow! Wow! Completely floored by this performance! What an impact this show left on the 12 of us attending. I cannot say enough about the quality of the production. I was truly on an adventure the entire time. Never once thought about an air conditioning vent or anything distracting LOL. Full of great talent both live performing and the behind the scenes tech... The "stage production" top notch! My only criticism, is there was no program. I had no clue which actors were my actors from the cast available online. I really would've liked the cast/crew list. Additionally I would've loved to acknowledge the talent. The way the production is staged, you have no opportunity to applaud and acknowledge and that was really a missing for me being Theatre goer. I just wanna go back so bad! You guys out there in Peoria really know how to entertain! read more

Theater Works is a nice showcase for local talent. The quality varies depending on the production and the cast. It's best to check the review before buying a ticket. e.g. a recent Teatro Bravo production was good whereas another production (different company) was mediocre. The theater seating is comfortable and the lobby area is spacious. We parked in the adjacent strip mall shopping center. The food at a nearby restaurant was pretty mediocre; the theater has snacks available. read more

My 9 year old went here for summer camp. We have gone to two other theatre camps at different locations and I can say this one was the best thus far. They were very organized, clear instructions for parents and she came home each day singing and dancing. After the final performance she ran out and said 'can I do this again next year?'. It was a much better experience than Az Broadway camp, where they didn't even perform on a stage. The theatre is lovely and a perfect size. My kid is very critical and she had nothing but wonderful things to say. We will be back! read more

We came to see the, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest play, and it was very intimate, welcoming, and comfortable. They set up so that you actually felt you were in a hospital. You also get a discount if you are a senior or student. The staff was very friendly, and they offer snacks and drinks. The actors had just the right amount of props, the costumes and acting were great. Kudos to the staff, and thank you for the wonderful night. read more

Opening night for Man of La Mancha was incredible! Rusty playing the part of Cervantes was amazing. The entire cast was awesome! Fun theater. ..clean and comfortable...easy access and for opening night after the perforce there was a nice surprise of sandwiches catered from Fleming Restaurant and little bunt cakes to boot! We recently saw the Frankenstein production at Theater Works. The theatre is intimate, seating less than 300 people. The show was outstanding. The sets definitely helped tell the story, and were designed to allow a smooth transition between scenes. The play was very well acted. Each actor put his or her all into every scene. Excellent youth program with amazing directors, choreographers and support staff. The quality of the productions was amazing; the calliber of the performers was far beyond what people expect from a youth show. The adult shows are good, but most of our experience is with the youth productions. Here is where I feel the theatre exceeds expectations. For parents seeking a place for their children to gain experience, confidence and the ability to work as a team, youth theatre is the way to go! They learn so much, and to see them grow and excel is amazing. Classes, puppeteering, workshops, no cut productions and competitive auditions...it's all here. The youth productions of Little Shop of Horrors and Ave Q I would hold up against any adult production I've seen in the valley. Just amazing, and well worth the relatively low ticket price. read more

I just returned from a fabulous production of Frankenstein at the Peoria Theater Works. The acting, staging, music (live, at that!), costumes, fight choreography, sets, and venue were all top notch! Even the box office employees and the ushers were polite, helpful, and enthusiastic. The foyer was decorated with everything Frankenstein with many oversized and very well done pieces of art for sale. I cannot imagine another local theatre more deserving of our monetary and audience support. I will definitely be adding my name to their list of members! So well done! read more

I searched on line for some live theater in the Phoenix area and found theater works in Peoria, a suburb. The theater is small and cozy. The production was awesome. Live small orchestra for a musical! I saw Sunday in the Park with George which is a musical about the famous painting by George Seurat. Very very good. You would have to have your own car to get there. Takes 25 minutes from downtown PHX. Free parking. The theatre needs to work on polite customer service. I checked in at the table that said "will call" lady cannot find my ticket and then tells me to stand in line again at the box office. That took a while and lady there argued with me that I did not say my name correctly? REALLY? read more

Phenomenal theater company. The range of plays produced here is ming boggling. The fact that they do it with a large contingent of community actors makes it all the more impressive. The quality of the direction, the venue and the effort put forth by the actors themselves (even when they are not perfect) makes this a great value for your entertainment dollar. read more

Harvey Girls:Yesterday I went to the production of Harvey Girls, part of the New Works festival. I've been going to the New Works original play series held at Phoenix Little theatre for many years and was dismayed at having to trek way out to Peoria for this year's engagement. The trip was really worth it! The theatre was lovely, small but well appointed with very friendly staff and volunteers, and the readers theatre presentation excellent. Even though the actors simply read their parts and had no stage props, you felt that you were in the Harvey House long ago, with wonderful characters. Yesterday's closing performance of Follies had me once again loving this House. After some time coming away from performances only feeling slightly, yesterday my experience was exactly the opposite. Under the watchful eye of an outstanding Managing Director, stellar cast and terrific Director; all good things will happen here. I would've paid twice what I paid for my ticket.
