Very cool selection of items, for an ok price. But yes, the workers were awful. Made fun of a group of students on a New York trip to see Broadway shows... like dude, you work in a store all about Broadway, maybe don't make fun of people who like it? Also got upset at me for not folding a sweater correctly before putting it back on the shelf (which I did). I'd recommend going here to pick up something if you really want it, but be prepared. read more

Across the street from the Majestic Theatre (formerly the home of Phantom of the Opera) is this very cute shop dedicated to Broadway novelties! It was really nice to walk through the couple of small rooms here and explore the different books, collectibles, and trinkets. I saw some Phantom of the Opera figurines and music boxes for display on one of the shelves, but was told that they weren't for sale. Oh well. Definitely a nice place to stop by and explore if you're in the area for a Broadway show. read more

This is a great place to put on your list if you're killing an hour before you show in the theater district. Definitely a great place to take the theater lovers in your life. I am joining the hate train revolution on the theatre circle. the workers are SO rude to customers. Just because there is a 4 person line does not mean you can immediately demand a card as soon as you get up to the counter, get angry when people ask for things YOU keep behind the counter, get upset when you are asked how much things are and to void things because your cd prices are 2 times as much as ANY other store, shake, pound, and put pressure on customers to make their purchase when you are the one getting the items. the worker is rude and entilited. Hmmmm, we didn't really find anything worth buying here. We had just seen an amazing showing of To Kill A Mockingbird, and we wanted a little souvenir since the theater itself didn't have anything interesting. We thought maybe we'd find a poster or something, anything, that had the play with Jeff Daniels' name on it. We found options for some of the older, big name productions. A bit of a disappointment. And the staff were a little off-putting. I get it, you have a crappy job and must have to deal with stupid tourists all day, but at least try to hide your disdain. read more

We browsed this store and while I didn't actually buy any souvenirs to bring home, it carries a lot of neat Broadway related items. Let's say someone, theoretically, waited in line for TKTS in the freezing cold of a New York City winter's day. And let's just say, theoretically of course, that someone dropped about $200.00 on a Broadway show. This person would probably be too cold and broke to buy souvenirs at said show. But that's okay. This place would have said person covered on their next paycheck - if they're still in New York City that is. Carrying a full range of Broadway knick-knacks, no matter what show someone saw (or wish they could have seen *shakes fist at Once for not having TKTS tickets), chances are they've got lots of marketing fun for it in stock here. Posters, magnets, t-shirts, shot glasses. Pretty much anything officially merchandised by the production. And for those who want to be in the production, they've got the songbooks for pretty much every musical playing on (and off) Broadway - and even the most popular musicals that have taken their final curtain call (until the next revival at least). There might have been an impromptu Avenue Q singalong when I was there. In the back, they have a *huge* selection of dramatic plays and a full cheesy New York City souvenir section. I didn't buy anything when I was there. A Matthew Broderick signed poster from The Producers was calling my name as a gift for my parents, but it didn't have a price on it so I didn't even inquire about it ("if you have to ask the price, you can't afford it"). But knowing that it, and this place, exist give me hope that one day such nice things will be mine. read more

"why would this google reviewer detest theatre circle so much!?" thanks for asking!! this all started the summer of 2023- you see, i am on a wild hunt to find a specific matilda playbill that a colleague is in. i visit the store on a weekly basis. this mission is SERIOUS, so i have to make some sacrifices. my first couple trips to the store is when i discovered that their bin of playbills is frequently changed. using my deductive reasoning skills, i inferred that they must have a stock of more playbills somewhere!!! i very innocently asked the man at the front desk... completely unaware that my question would insult HIM, HIS FAMILY, HIS DOG, AND NEXT DOOR NEIGHBOR!!!!! (don't ask about their back rooms you guys it is a trap!!!!!) this incident made me realize that i was going to have to frequently come into the store and check. some other highlights include the time i came in when the store was closing in 27 minutes. the same man (i'm assuming he is the owner?), yelled at EVERYONE in the store about how they were about to close. i would think this is reasonable, IF him and his other employees weren't rolling their eyes and complaining about wanting to go home! there is no costumer service etiquette in this store! i just wanted to buy a sarah paulson magazine, but he REFUSED to look and me. he was very busy watching the Miss America introduction ceremony on his phone. i too can enjoy pageant queens from time to time, but not in my place of work! when my costumer wants sarah paulson! after waiting FOREVER he looked up to me in an irritated manner and said "what???" must've forgot he was working, haha!! another employee and i are arch rivals. the first time i met them my friends and i were silently shopping. (FUN FACT : you cannot speak in theatre circle!!) they were about to turn on some music and shouted to the store, "THERE IS NO SINGING ALLOWED!!! LET THE PERSON WHOS SINGING SING!!!" ma'am... this is a broadway tourist store. please note! i was NOT singing! but i am a strong advocate for anyone who would like to sing in public and this was just mean and cold of the worker!! this is america! sing queens! how else are we supposed to get noticed by a broadway casting agent????????? another moment with this worker include when i brought a panera charge lemonade into the store! :O apparently drinks are not allowed. i saw no sign, but it must've been small. my bad... i never knew!!!! she told me that i had attitude and COULD NOT LOOK AT HER PLAYBILLS!!!!! i may have been a little snarky in my response to her, but my history with this store made me irritated!!! still i think we can all agree that kindness is the way!!! these workers know of no such word. with all that said, i am ready to go on strike. the workers need to realize that they run a TOURIST store for BROADWAY LOVERS!!!!! it is such a shame that a potentially joyful and colorful place is ran and tormented by satan and friends! many reviewers on this thread suggest never going to this store. We discovered this store when killing time before attending a play yesterday. My husband groaned when I suggested going inside, since he thought it would be another "tourist trap" - but he ended up liking it as much as I did (high praise!). Firstly; although the store has a fair number of "souvenir"-type items, none of them are junky-looking. Secondly; everything is arranged very attractively, and the shelves & tables have beautiful wood. Thirdly, the store has some nice non-souvenir-type items. In addition, the manager & the young woman working there were SUPER-nice and they had a great sense of humor. I really enjoyed talking to them. read more

We bought some souvenirs from this shop due to convenience, and they had some posters that we liked (our daughter is a big fan of Hamilton, the Musical). The reason I gave a low rating since the employees were really rude. The guy whom I asked for some items whether he had them or not, he told us to look for ourselves, and the cashier was also unfriendly. The store has some cool items, but the man at the front was incredibly rude and yelled at multiple people in my group. We were not loud or obnoxious, but some of us had questions about some things for sale. We were going to buy them, but changed our minds after that. He was horrible and condescending to us when we are just teenagers and were being nothing but respectful. I get that he has to deal with annoying tourists, but his rudeness was completely unwarranted. I also understand the mannerism difference in a city like New York, but he was not just New York rude, which I can handle; he went out of his way to be awful and make us feel stupid. read more

Love this venue, I mean it's NY Theatre paraphernalia what's not to love. The worker was very helpful as I was buying a poster to get signed and this place had it all including the two pieces of cardboard to place the poster between when flying back home. It looks like a tourist trap, but if you know what you're after you will soon discover this is the place to get it because you won't find it anywhere else and I'm glad I did because the musical I went to didn't sell any posters!! Ran across this charming little store on a NYV trip in 2011. Visited again this year ... Theater Circle sets itself apart from the rest of typical souvenir junque shoppes because of the merchandise it carries and the way it is presented. You will find a lot of dark wood shelving and soft lights and items more geared toward the broadway experience rather than the same kitsch that is for sale at Every Other Store on 42nd Street or along Times Square. I saw 'Book of Mormon' and 'Spider-Man: Turn off the Dark' on the same weekend in 2011 but since both shows were in Previews (yes, we know SMTOtD ran for previews ad infinitum but that's not the point here), neither show had a 'Souvenir Program' (tourbook) ready to sell at the show but I was able to pick up both at this trip in 2012 here at Theater Circle for the same price you would pay at the shows. I love this store and sometimes have run upon a rude clerk. To hell with them because they are flunkies in an otherwise great store. Their attitude may not get them to Broadway if that's their dream. Hope not. Imagine them with a bit of fame. Yuck! If you walk out annoyed you only hurt the owner who has paid his/her dues bringing joy to Broadway affectionados (sorry for that spelling). It's a dandy store that I peruse every time I am in NYC from far off Hawai'i. "Hamilton" shirts etc. long before any other NY store had stocked them. They are "On" it. Collect Tee shirts and make them into a comforter...it does take some show viewing but you'll have theater history across your lap. Original cast albums and you can teach your kids and maybe the neighborhood kids some literate lyrics set to monumental scores. Rereleases of scores from some vintage shows are a plus to help negate Mr/Ms Grumpy up front. Read some plays...I hated reading until I discovered the ease of reading scripts at age 15...now I teach English Lit to college level conscientious readers. Finally, Juniors cheesecake is nearby to sit down and enjoy your book or to don your exciting tee shirt. Have fun at Theater Circle and be happy. Aloha! I'm going to give this place 4 stars not because "I'm a fan!" but because if you, dear reader, are a fan of Broadway musicals, or the theatrical arts in general, you will probably be a fan of this store. The place has a wealth of theater-related souvenirs (t-shirts, bath towels, jewelry, you name it), as well as the obligatory and more ubiquitous "I [heart] NY" merchandise. The back room is more of a bookstore, with a large selection of dramatic scripts and other items aimed at both actors and patrons of drama. I came here with a playwright friend who's a big fan of Broadway, but I ended up buying a greeting card as well as browsing. There are a ton of schlocky souvenir stores in this neighborhood, but you're better off skipping them and coming straight here, as it's definitely a cut above the rest. read more

They obviously don't care anything about their customers. This site says they are open--Open Now--but I went all the way into the City only to find out they are closed. I can't wait till they are open so I can go in and put 12 piano vocals on the counter, and after they've rung them up, say "sorry, I forgot my wallet." went here during a trip with some friends about 2 weeks ago. the store was nice, with quite a wide selection of theater/broadway related stuff any theater kid would need in their life. from vocal selections to cds to t-shirts to even some playbills. also the little addition of a cozy library in the back was nice, but a bit small. like the rest of the reviews, the cashier honestly depends. for our trip, the guy wasn't bad like some others, he just didn't seem to care at all, not bothering to answer my questions. i do still recommend visiting for any theater kid wanting a little extra merch for their favorite show. read more

A pretty neat store based mostly on theater and New York. Right in the heart of Times Square/Theater District This is the place to check out to buy broadway related merchandise. I only wish they had more merchandise from the actual musicals!!!! Like the Little Mermaid, The Lion king , etc. Broadway needs a store with memorabilia from all the shows....etc. but for now this will have to do =) Check it out. read more

Hidden on 44th just off the bustle of Times Square, head straight to the back room, complete with floor-to-ceiling shelves of scripts and a rolling ladder. We stumbled upon it as tourists when I was 16, and as soon as I moved to New York I made sure to go and find it again. Broadway heaven. :) read more

A small little theater goers gift shop... some really great rare items that other NYC stores don't carry. The cashier was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. The posters and books on the Broadway shows were awesome! I ended up grabbing a Phantom of the Opera 25th anniversary book with the history of the play and it was well received by it's recipient. The staff is incredibly rude. The man at the front desk snapped at my partner and I because we picked up a shirt to hold it up and see the size. He snapped multiple times saying the sizes were marked on the shelves - of course, but it's hard to see the fit unless you hold it up to yourself! We were trying to purchase items for a charity event and he was so rude that we immediately left and took our business elsewhere. read more
