The Quality Hill Playhouse (and its kindred spirit, the Chestnut Fine Arts Center in Olathe) put on full seasons of shows featuring the best in American popular music. Tonight I went with my family to celebrate some birthdays by seeing "Lets Do It," an evening devoted to the lyrics of the immortal Cole Porter. It was de-lightful, de-licious and de-lovely! The theater is small, so all the seats are good. It has been refurbished recently, and looks very nice! The theater staff were very kind and accommodating -- we had originally bought tickets for the Wednesday night show, but my elderly parents were nervous about going out because of the severe weather we were having that day. The theater exchanged the tickets for tonight and, because of the severe weather issue, waived their usual $5 per ticket exchange fee. That was a nice thing to do! This was the final show of the season. Next year's season will feature shows highlighting Noël Coward and Gertrude Lawrence and the songs of Rodgers and Hart, Comden and Green, and Kander and Ebb. (Kander is originally from K.C.) See their website for specific details, or for subscription information. The shows are very well done, with excellent selections of songs and thoroughly professional performances. There's parking available in the garage of which the theater is actually a part (it occupies the street level of the building). It's usually $6. So go and enjoy!!!

It's nice to get outside, pack a picnic, and enjoy free entertainment in KC. (They typically accept donations at the entrance, which helps to fund each festival). There's also some food & drink available for purchase, if you don't feel like packing a cooler/basket.

My recommendation is to bring a chair and some snacks. Maybe a blanket as well as things tend to get cooler in the evenings. You can also buy popcorn, etc. and wine from food trucks. There was a parody done by students which helped me understand and follow the plot of the actual performance. Then there was a lecture done by a retired college professor who explained the history behind the show. This was hard to find as it was outside what I would call the fair grounds, so I missed the beginning. Then the show, oh my gosh was such high quality. Great acting, costumes, set and even live music. I want my friend from Chicago who is a big Shakespeare fan to come to Kansas City to enjoy this one day. It's worth the trip. Can't wait for next year!

We enjoyed the bar area and got some yummy sangria from very friendly bartenders. The theatre itself is small but has comfy bench seating and there is no bad view. We pad a bit extra for VIP tickets and we're seated front and center. The play was very well done with a great story and great actors. We were surprised by the reception with actors after the show. There were many savory and sweet snacks available for free. Parking is available out back for a fee or you can fine a free spot on the street out back like we did.

Now, I am not a Country fan, but my mother is and growing up in a household listening to Country I knew any of the songs, and acts that were performed. I will admit I do love me some Patsy Cline. I didn't really consider her a Country artist, but to each their own. The 3 main tributes were Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, and Dolly Parton. The show was performed by 3 main stage Ladies who did most of the Cover songs either as a solo or all together. They had a band that consisted of a piano, bass guitar, steel guitar, and a percussionist. They were great, they clearly practice, and put a lot of time and effort in perfecting their craft. Now I will admit I don't know how much the tickets cost for the show, my mother bought them. But I do know that she is a season ticket holder and stated they were reasonable prices. I know she enjoys doing these things with her friends. The area was somewhat small, but really there wasn't a bad seat in the house, which was mentioned many times when I was there. The parking area felt even smaller. Good thing the church ladies carpool. They recommended pulling in backwards to the parking spot, as it is easier when exiting the small lot. There is a small concession area I believe for during intermissions. I enjoyed myself, but mostly so I could spend the time with my mom while visiting. Would I go again? Only if she wanted me too, but otherwise no. I felt out of place, and it just wasn't something I would normally go see. Was it great for the majority of the age group, YES, did they have a blast, YES, will they be returning, HECK YES. Thank you to the staff and performers for a great show, even if it wasn't my cup of tea.

There was comedy for adults as well as the little ones. The 21 month old on my lap had an amazing time and was able to stay entertained the entire hour! I couldn't believe how enthralled she was with the show. I highly recommended taking kids of all ages. Worth the price for a fun, unique, and engaging activity.

The theater is very small, but the environment is one created with love for entertaining children. The artwork and the sets seem to be created by their small staff and volunteers, from what I gather from their website. The puppets are brightly colored and the "acting" is what makes it fun. Nothing like hearing puppets whistle and sing show tunes along with an Italian folk story. Get there early for a photo with Oscar the Grouch in the lobby! You can also buy 'make your own' puppet kits for a nominal fee. *Another bonus is they offer discounts if you are a member of KCPT (PBS affilitate in KC).

The theatre itself is large with plenty of seating, and the screen definitely lives up to its Extreme Screen name. It's huge with a great picture and I recommend sitting toward the back for the best view. The seats were comfortable, though they don't recline, which is my only complaint. The concession prices were very reasonable, a large popcorn and a large drink for under $15, cheaper than most big name theatres. The employees were friendly too making this a good spot to see a movie.

Perfect audio balancing, which helps my sensitive kiddo (and me, let's be real). I was surprised that even after buying four tickets, popcorn, and snacks that they wouldn't validate parking. It's gotten much stricter around Union Station as the Streetcar has taken off, which I totally understand. However, I think being a paying customer should have a small reward. Just a little feedback. I love almost everything about Union Station, right down to the bathrooms, so enjoying this theater is no surprise. Go check it out!

So if you loved drive ins, you'll like this. There's giant sized games and table games, along with a full service bar on deck! It's right in Crossroads off Broadway so parking is a hassle. Now cinema magic. No matter the seat you purchase, you've got a nice view. Ours were the Adirondack Chairs but I think the Adirondack Love Seat option might be cool too. It's first come, first-served seating. Your chair has a seat cushion with a headrest pillow. You receive your own headset for movie sounds upon Checkin. You can order from the menu right from your seat, at the bar or box office. Prior to your movie there's pre show content and trivia and even karaoke. Music is playing over the rooftop sound system. Single chairs were on right side of the aisles and love seats on the left facing the movie wall. The menu includes snacks, movie candy, mocktails or cocktails, choose your mood.. mine was "Am I the Drama?" AND it was drama compliant! The popcorn was really good, no messy butter, it's already pooped in. Pricing for things matches what you see at Dine n Movies elsewhere. I loved the whole experience. All movie staffers were friendly & helpful. We came early , like around the time of movie before ours - SINNERS, but staff were pretty cool about it! One of bartenders Rolando checked on us and was even kind enough to be our photographer. Enjoy the rooftop vibes, be careful stepping around as well. Movie time. At some points during our movie you could hear city sounds that were really loud like sirens or loud cars but overall the movie sound headphones were good. We had our own blankets so we were comfy and they have some for purchase. We did have a wait on our snack order so I went to get it at Box Office before the movie started. I received my drink promptly which again was da bomblicious with: white blended rum, elderflower, passionfruit, splash press, jalapeño, mint! YUP! I'd definitely enjoy rooftop cinema again!
