A good friend of mine invited me to a show here. What's impressive is that this typical black box venue has been around since 1964. Considering that L.A. is not really a "theatre-going" town, places like these are becoming increasingly rare. Theater West is an old theater (since mid 60-s) on Cahuenga Blvd. Pretty decent size, well maintain, they have plays here for adults and children. We came here a few times to see friends in plays, decent production value, good sound and nice lighting. Set design and costumes are always pretty good. Good seats, clean restrooms, parking across, some street parking as well. Lots of restaurants and coffee shops around in case you need to grab lunch or dinner before/after the show! A nice theater that's been around for a while. Great place to bring your kids in the weekends, they have great matinees with shows especially staged for the little ones. It's always fun to watch a play and see everyone's reactions, it makes the experience more fun! read more

Ugly Duckling Musical I took my 3 year old daughter to see the Ugly Duckling musical at Theater West in NoHo. She had a great time and I was so impressed by this community theater. The musical was about an hour long with intermission mid way through. Music and actors were fanstasically entertaining and the theater was was small and intimate. Lots of opportunities for the kids to interact with the play and there were free cookies and juice during intermission. Tickets were $15pp, there was metered street parking across the street as well as a paid lot. Highly recommend! read more

What a charming & hilarious kids Goldilocks & The Three Bears. My friend & I took our 6 year olds to the 1 PM show and I was pleasantly surprised by how much we all enjoyed it. Story, acting, singing, audience engagement was all top notch. The actors playing the mom & teddy bear were LOL funny and sing beautifully. Even the intermission / stretch host was wonderful. What a delight to find this fun and charming kids play. Can't wait for the fall show. Oh! And big kudos for the continued vigilance with covid safety. They continue to send postcards for Storybook Theatre to household of deceased person who passed in 2017, seven years ago. Numerous phone calls and messages do not resolve the issue. Decedent never went to Storybook Theatre with or without children. They refuse too stop sending postcards; decedent is no longer with us. Eveb the last name is spelled incorrectly. read more

Saw the little blue riding hood and it was a great experience with my baby. her first play was a success. It was opening day so we got to take a photo with the cast. Everyone was so nice and the play was interactive enough to keep a 25-mo olds' attention. YMMV. We found parking on the street a half block down on a Saturday afternoon. It's about half the size of a movie theater. We sat in the front and center for the full effect. Especially since our baby is a shorty. I came here to see a world premiere production of One Woman Gone Wrong. The theatre is great. It's a small space seating perhaps 100 people at most. Parking is available free of charge across Cahuenga Boulevard and there's a crosswalk with traffic lights for pedestrian safety. The lobby is small with an area for sales of drinks. On the other side is the box office. The staff there was very friendly. I will check their schedule to see if they have a play when I'm in LA in the future. Sunday evenings at 7 PM means there's little traffic going back to DTLA on the Hollywood Freeway after the show. Well done theatre! read more

We were looking for a fun outing and saw the ad for "Moose on the Lose" in the LA Times. Read the reviews of the, unknown to us, Theatre West and decided to take a chance and drive from Redlands to see the show. We enjoyed the the entire experience. I was surprised the theater has been operating for 69 years. The staff was very pleasant, friendly and helpful. The theater is small and the staff was willing and able to attend to the patrons. The show was funny and one had to listen carefully at times to catch the nuances. I thought the Italians in the audience identified with the actors. There was lots of laughter during the play. There are many good restaurants within walking distance. We attended a Sunday Matinee, had dinner after at Mercado Hollywood. read more

This is a truly beautiful venue for great events. The wife, myself and cousin went to see Laurence Juber, former guitarist for wings. It was a great show that showed the ease of skill that Laurence had making the guitar his mistress and lover all at the same time. The way he made it sing with an all acoustic show, from Beatles, A.C. DC, pink panther, James bond, as well as many other of his own tunes. The sound man made sure everything was on point without a glitch. The lights were perfect and hit the stage just right. If you are in the area this is a great place to catch a show and support some great artist. The staff was friendly and helpful. Parking was across the street. read more

Last weekend, I had the chance to experience Theater West for the first time. I have heard about Theater West and I have been excited to check them out for quite some time. As is typical when it comes to the theater, I waited for a performance that really called out to me and booked tickets to attend. I saw "To Dad, With Love: A Tribute to Buddy Ebsen". When I arrived, I was pleasantly surprised to find free parking in a large parking lot right across the street. Amazing! What a huge win (especially in Los Angeles!). The theater itself is a charming black box that seats probably close to 200 audience members. They have a cute little lobby where they sell snacks and show-related gifts before the show and at intermission. As for the show? Well, if I'm being honest, the show itself was meh. I bought tickets because I am a big fan of classic Hollywood tales and The Wizard of Oz. But I did not just buy any 'ol tickets! I bought VIP tickets! I was lead to believe that these VIP tickets would provide me with a "Meet and Greet" with the star of the one-woman show after the performance. The man at the ticket booth even handed me a purple wristband upon check-in so that I could be distinguished as someone in the audience who had a VIP experience awaiting them after the show. When the show came to an end, Kiki came out and chatted with many audience members who were still loitering in the house. I approached her with my nifty purple wristband and she barely acknowledged me. I asked for a photo, which she awkwardly agreed to, and after that, I bailed. The whole thing was so awkward. I've been to MANY VIP "meet and greet" situations before -- and this was the most poorly run. Now don't get me wrong -- I do not expect a meet and greet at Theater West to be run like a A-list meet and greet that you would experience at the Staples Center if you were about to meet Sir Elton John. Of course not. But I *do* expect that some sort of...accommodations be made or some sort of....SOMETHING is done for those who whipped out extra cash for an experience that literally anybody could have done if they hung out five minutes after the show. It wasn't special. It wasn't exclusive. There were no extra stories or tidbits. Just an awkward encounter for an awkward photo. I realize this Yelp page is about the theater itself. Theater West should NOT suffer a poor review because of a poor show. And they won't from me. But they SHOULD have a slightly better system in place when it comes to their ticketing procedures and protocols. If they are providing "VIP" tickets, they should make sure they are providing a "VIP" experience. That's all. I'll be back to Theater West again some day. I enjoyed the space (and the parking!). I just won't be buying any VIP packages from them anytime soon. read more

I saw Millennium Magic here over this past weekend. The show itself was half funny and impressive while the other half was awkward, not funny and consisted of poorly executed magic tricks. As for the theater itself, it's small and cozy and the workers are all very friendly. It's pretty old and there is nothing fancy about it but it serves its purpose okay. I sure wish it had free parking to go along with it though. There are meters on the streets and a parking lot across the street that costs money. Oh and I liked the restroom- it felt like a bathroom in a lived in home. read more

I just took my four year old to see "Goldilocks and the three Bears". I thought the production was great. It was simple yet entertaining, not too long for the kids (about an hour long), and the music was catchy. The actors did a great job getting the kids excited and eager to participate. The actress who played Goldilocks had an especially pretty voice. I really appreciate little theatres like this that have a real down to earth quality and you feel like you're contributing to your community when you buy a ticket. I'd love to see this theatre have a packed house every night. It deserves it. My child and I are excited to go see next season's Storybook Theatre production. read more

This theater, located on Cahuenga across from Universal City Walk, is great. Not only is the layout pleasing, but the theater company is very talented and puts on great shows. It's around 170 seats and every seat seems great. (The front row is super close to the stage, so firm your own opinion/preference about this.) "Without Annette" has a run here on Sunday evenings through end of August 2015, there is FREE, CONVENIENT, AMPLE PARKING on the east side of the street (at least on Sunday evenings. I can't vouch for other days/times). There are a bunch of little cafes/bars within walking distance. It's about a half mile south of Miceli's. Go have a yummy, kitschy Italian dinner, a drink or two, then go see a show. Enjoy! read more

I just got back from taking my kids (ages 1 and 2) to see "Little Red Riding Hood." It was such a cute production, much more professional than I was expecting. The wolf was especially talented...but actually they all were! Even the woodsman who only had about 7 minutes on stage was quite impressive. The songs were great and I think it's very appropriate for ages 2-7. My kids were probably the youngest there and they were totally engaged the whole time (1 hour). The theater itself is quite comfy. Also someone friendly actually answered the phone when I called in the morning to reserve tickets (you cannot book same-day tickets online). One of my favorite things is the parking - in a FREE LOT directly across the street. The tickets are a little pricier than other children's productions we've seen, but totally worth their value! read more

Just saw the "Sleeping Beauty" production earlier today with my four year old son. It was delightful and entertaining! It was age appropriate and interactive. My only complaint was that my son had to sit on my lap the entire time because there was a mix of adults and the children in the audience so he couldn't see over anyone's head where he was sitting. Typically in those types of settings there is a distinction between where adults and children sit because 45 pounds on my knee for two hours was nothing nice! Other than that I got great deal on tickets so it worked out perfectly. Without the discount, a family of three is $36 but I only paid $18. Also, thanks to my lovely mother who was responsible for the mapquest, oddly enough the theatre where we saw the production was not the theatre where I purchased tickets but somehow they let us in anyway at the Will Call window! read more

I didn't know about this theater. We got tickets thru Fiilaseat for the Thicker than Water. This theater is better then the other small ones in LA. This one is pretty specious with nice seats and specious stage. The play was good and very funny. Acting was great! Would like to go back to see another play. read more

I just saw "The Tango Singer" an original play written and directed by John R. Lacey. Well he totally outdid himself with the writing and story. The actors were fabulous and took ownership of their roles; taking us back to Argentina then Paris. Their professionalism and expertise in theater was evident. The singing was impressive embracing you with their emotions; you lived the words and felt them deeply. It was wonderful to see the reactions from the audience around me, the laughter in response to certain scenes, the cheers, the emotions we all felt. Then the finale was simply a STANDING OVATION. Well deserved everyone! Great Job! I saw it a few times; had to, and took about 10 guests with me - all loved it and appreciated having been told about it, otherwise would have missed it. GREAT JOB EVERYONE! So what's next? read more

Saw Waiting for Lefty. Good play for a lot of reasons: believable characters, correct historical usage of words, mini-plays within the play which touched upon the different stages of people's lives: when a couple starts dating, get engaged, married with children, and pertinent to 2010 in the sense of how desperate people may feel because of the recession. read more

Recently saw "Acting - The First Six Lessons". It was a thrill to watch Beau Bridges and his daughter together and they gave top notch performances. The play has much to say, not just about acting, but life in general. That said, it could have used more story or dramatic structure. I wish them luck as they develop this worthwhile project. I would have rated the experience four stars except for the poor management of the theater itself. My date and I (and many other people) waited twenty minutes on line to pick up our tickets. Worse, we were seated in the General section, although we had paid for Premium seats. We complained to two theater staffers and showed them the receipt for it-- to no avail. Disappointing, as we had been looking forward to sitting up close for this show. When we complained later via email they finally fixed the cause of their ticketing error, offered us a $2 refund (!!) but no apology. read more

Just saw Tom Dugan's one person show "Weisenthal" a month at this venue. I have been coming here and supporting this theatre for years, but this one person show really reminded me what socially conscious theatre can do for the soul. Paid $5 to park across the street. Went with a preschool today to see a performance of Little Red Riding Hood. Show was entertaining and kept the attention of my wiggly 3 year old. Our show was delayed since the production team wanted to wait for the last, late-arriving school (they got lost). Didn't really appreciate that since we would not have expected that for our school and definitely had restless children on our hands. Also, beware...their website says that there is free parking in the lot across the street: "FREE PARKING is provided across the street in the PANASONIC lot, which may be crossed with a crosswalk and traffic light." HOWEVER, this is ONLY after 5 and on weekends (conveniently left off the website). I got to find out the hard way since the parking attendant would NOT let me leave...I got to park again, get my child out of the carseat and wait to cross the street and then wait another 7 minutes for someone to finish a conversation in order to ask for money...since I had NO cash and their website said the parking was free. They gave me $5, which was then too small amount since the additional 15 minutes of the debacle was costing MORE money! The parking attendant didn't have the nerve to ask me to go through that again and paid out of his own pocket. Shame since the production was so sweet. read more

I'm surprised more people have yet to review Theatre West! It is an internationally acclaimed theatre in Hollywood, California. I came to know the theatre through their production of Waiting in the Wings with Betty Garrett which I saw last fall when I was in LA. It was fantastic!! Betty Garrett, from On the Town and All in the Family - at 90 years old, stole the stage in every scene. In September they are doing the play Gaslight which is a Victorian Thriller. I will be back in LA for Labor Day weekend and I already purchased my tickets! I've been to the Ahmanson out there but this theatre had equally talented actors and there was not a bad seat in the house. And there was FREE parking across the street. Also, the set for Waiting in the Wings was breathtaking and it looks like the same guy is doing the set for Gaslight. I can't wait. I highly suggest checking out Theatre West. read more

The theater is nice, but Sleeping beauty is really not worth watching. It is definitlly not for kids youger then 12. The jokes are for addults not children. They speak to fast, kids can not follow the show. I went with a 4 and a 3 year old. The kids wanted to leave after 30 min. The actors tried their best but Are really not for kids shows. The only good part is the prince at the end. read more
